What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

God of WAR 3 PS3
Ratchet & Clank CIT PS3
Assassins Creed XB360
Dead to Rights XB360
Okami Wii

Lol... just got back from FYE... so I traded in God of War III, Dead to rights, Kane and Lynch, Singularity, Splinter Cell Conviction, and Lost Planet II for a little over $100. I spent ~$85 for 12 games at BBV. That's a profit of about 20 bucks so far, not counting a copy of God of War III I sold on Ebay for $19, the extra copy of Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the extra copy of God of War III, and the free UFC 2010, free Killzone 2, and free Battlefield Bad Company 2. I'd say I'm now an expert CAG lol.

On a side note, I got a coupon for and extra 20% cash or credit bonus on trade ins valid through the month of January. I could've waited to trade in what I did, but didn't want to risk price drops

If any flippers here happen to have an unused UFC 2010 code for the XBOX 360 I would most certainly appreciate a PM :)

Dang... I hope he actually got it before someone else did. The copy of UFC I picked up was pretty much untouched, and the code was still valid. I guess teh good thing about it is that the code is on the back of the book, somewhere that I guess most renters wouldn't bother to look

I already gave out a copy of the UFC code, but if I run into another 360 one I'll send it out to you. I bought a copy of Dark Void in Texas and the guy here in FL was nice enough to hook me up with a manual for it. Im 2 for 2 on Blockbusters giving me manuals from other incomplete games I have gotten from other stores.

I saw many copies of UFC 2010 but they were still marked $19.99 as opposed to $19.99 on page 1.

My haul:
Kane and Lynch 2 (360)
Singularity (360)
Kane and Lynch 2 (360)
God of War 3 (PS3)

All complete with case, cover art and manual.

Saw some other games but didn't have price list on me. Example: One Kane and Lynch was marked $14.99 other still had a $54.99 sticker.

UFC is only $14.99 for the Xbox360. Most BBVs are slow in changing sticker prices or they occassionally miss a couple. If its marked higher than that, it doesn't matter as the scan price will be $14.99.

The girl scanned it and it scanned at 19.99 for the 360(on sunday morning).

That is most likely why, that is the price of a New version.

They should have a strip (sticker) with another barcode for their used game (much like on their rentals). A lot of places keep it on the case, while others leave it on the paper sleeve.

They scanned the barcode on the other 4 i purchased and it was $14.99. Interestingly enough 3 out of the 4 games I purchased had prices of $19.99, $24.99 and $54.99. So it is best to have them scan.

Two of the VIP codes from BFBC2 games I bought AT BBV were good so I do not need my 3rd code. No clue if it is valid or not, but chances are good.

Is it unethical to purchase a copy of Singularity during this sale that has no manual, and rent the game at another blockbuster and keep the manual?

Did some Blockbuster digging today at two locations in Memphis. One of the stores had prices jacked way up, and at the other all I ended up buying was :360: DOA Xtreme 2 for $5 :whistle2:\"
Is it unethical to purchase a copy of Singularity during this sale that has no manual, and rent the game at another blockbuster and keep the manual?
Yes. That is stealing since it does not belong to you nor was it part of something that was sold to you.

I agree... I thought about how horrible it sounded after I typed it. I didn't do this, nor will I FYI, but it did cross my mind

Go to Gamestop and jack a manual. kekekeke

i'm joking. don't do it.

If any of the games that qualify for the sale from the original post were in the store then they would ring up at those lower prices. You just have to bring them up to the register and have them scan them.:D
I agree... I thought about how horrible it sounded after I typed it. I didn't do this, nor will I FYI, but it did cross my mind
You can try asking if they'll give you a manual from a rental copy. Just explain that you bought a used copy but it was missing. It doesn't hurt to ask.
Damn it I wouldn't mind picking up a copy of Singularity for this sale with or without the manual. :|
I'm going back to Fullerton Wednesday night. If they still have the copy, I'll snag it for you. If you've picked up any games in the sale, we can trade something

I went into the closest and most stocked BBV to me yesterday and they didn't pull any (convert from rentals to PRPs) and to reiterate Hawaiiboy, there were no drops for anything they had instock.

^THIS. I've done this like thrice at 2 different BBVs.

If you find a store with a manual or a rental, just ask for it. I have done this twice now and was given the manual without a question both times. Bring the receipt for a even better chance, if they know your a paying customer I don't think they will deny you.

Most of the time my local GS will let me have a manual for free. Just ask them. Heck, if they can sell games that are somehow inexplictably missing the cover art, do you think they care about the manuals too? Nope.

Try your local Game Stop for a free manual. If the employees are cool, like mine are, they will let you take one or two for free. They really don't care :)

This might be YMMV, but what's the return policy? I bought a copy of Avatar PS3 during the sale, but it doesn't play - do I have to get Avatar again?

ur supposed to exchange it for the same title but if they dont have anymore(which is highly like) then they'll let you swap it out for something else.

can someone tell me the difference between BF2 bad company, limited edition and ultimate? all i see is limited edition on bbv but amazon and fye do not show such an edition existing.

BFBC2 is just the game
Limited edition came with a VIP pass
Ultimate Edition came with codes for BF 1943, VIP pass, etc.

As far as I know. The limited edition and regular edition should have identical UPCs though.

BF2 "limited" edition was the pre-order regular version - all preorder copies were upgraded to limited for free and included a number of vehicle and weapon unlocks (VIP codes were given to all new copies purchased at retail). "Ultimate" includes the game, Battlefield 1943, "Onslaught Mode", and a couple of vehicle and weapon unlocks.
You can try asking if they'll give you a manual from a rental copy. Just explain that you bought a used copy but it was missing. It doesn't hurt to ask.
Or you can just look at the rentals and take it... If you haven't bought the item yet. The first thing I do when I don't see a manual is go look at the rentals and take a manual from them. If I can't find one, I just leave the game there.

Can someone tell me what the difference is between Battlefield 2 bad company, limited edition and ultimate edition? They have limited edition at BBV but I cannot seem to find that edition anywhere else such as gs, amazon,etc..

Limited edition was the initial first print run of the game that came with the VIP code for free mp maps.

Ultimate edition was released not to long ago and came with the VIP code as well and the Onslaught mode. There is a regular version out in retail thats not Limited or Ultimate but also includes the VIP code.. Your used copy will most likely not have the VIP code which in turn you can buy from the in game store or else you will just have to deal with the few map choices they give you for every MP mode..

I hit up two Blockbusters I'd already checked out earlier in the sale and I got lucky. At the first one the manager on duty swore that the sale had ended, but I told him that the sign was still up.

There wasn't much left that qualified, but I did get a few decent games.

I picked up:

:ps3:Ratchet & Clank: Crack In Time
:wii:Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom

Both were still marked $19.99, so I guess that's why they survived this late into the sale. R&C has a few smudges on it(probably from me the last time I checked this game to buy there) and TvC has a few scratches but it's leagues better than the one I traded earlier in the night to a local shop.

At the second one I figured I wouldn't find anything, but I was in for a shock there. I picked up the following from there:

:ps3:God Of War III
:ps3:Dragon Age: Origins

Only sucky part was that DA: O was missing the manual. Oh well. I guess I'll have to find one someplace.
