Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

June 25th - July 1st, 50% off used games $19.99 and under

See here for the deal: http://www.blockbuster.com/stores

There used to be a coupon to print for it, but now stores should have the bar code to scan at the register.  If not, show them their own web page (above) and maybe they will figure it out.

See BlockbusterGuy's thread for a list of titles eligible under (and commonly found at BBV) for the promo:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/310423-blockbuster-video-4th-of-july-sale-bogo/

Coming July 2nd: B1G1 free on games $29.99 and under

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note that anything below here might be out of date. To be honest, I have no idea if Blockbuster even takes games for trade-in any more!

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit will be placed onto your store account
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at Blockbuster, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Monday. We are not currently sure when trade-in values get updated but a few years ago it used to be on Mondays. Any quotes given in this thread may thus be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.
Epic Mickey is now up to $18 at Amazon!

I was just printing out my trade-in forms from this morning when it was $15 and I'm glad that I noticed before I sent it in!
Was just about to post this.
usually get the price drops sat morning but sometimes like last week they'll come over Friday night. I'm on vacation for the next week and a half so I'll just report any price drops but won't be able to check tivs or anything else.
Thanks HB! However, even if the prices do drop, the majority of stores will probably not update the prices until Tuesday when the sale is over right?

Price drops are effective monday. Since it is the last day of the sale, it isn't so pushy to go in and say "hey do you have the list of VG price drops for the week? Since today's the last day I want to see if anything dropped."

Saw this as well, I'm glad I kept it bookmarked for reference. I'm surprised as to why it's so high, they have it selling new for $9 extra, and I'd figured people had flipped in a few copies BEFORE they increased the TIV $4.

How many copies of a game can you flip to Amazon? Debating on buying 4 copies from BBV for a $42 profit.

2per console per 3 months (or it's 6 months, can't remember which)
Sorry if it ruins the mystery, but Hawaiiboy is his user ID, not his location.
I thought at one point he said he lives on the big island. That WILL ruin the mystery if I find out otherwise.

Thought it'd be something like that. Thank you. Most BBVs have a ton of this and Kirby's Epic Yarn.

I'm originally from the big island but I now live in a place far far away.
Just kidding, Epic Mickey TIV JUST crashed back to $12. God damnit, should have locked that in.
It's still showing up as $18 for me. Might be worth checking again.

I think you are looking at the TIV for the Epic Mickey CE, which is currently $12.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks, just checked again. Still $12. I'll use a different browser, but see, that doesn't even make any sense, lol.

Still $12... even checked the confirmation page.

Now it's finally showing up as $12 for me. I guess I barely locked in my order for $18 by mere minutes or seconds.

$14 TIV at BB isn't that bad though (when you get 40% extra for a preorder). At least at BB, the game doesn't have to be complete with the manual/cover art (depending on BB manager of course).

The problem for me is no Best Buy in my county (Nassau County/Long Island) has a trade-in desk/takes trade-ins. Not a single fucking one. So it's GS or Amazon...

It's been $10 lately at BB, but now it's $7.
so i was away for the whole week. Just realized the sale is extended, is the guides also still on sale?
Saw signs up for the 75% off guide sale (and price tags to match) at 2 or 3 stores today so I assume so.

Thank you.

Must be YMMV but $19.99 titles rang up buy 1 get 1 at the Blockbuster I went to. Got Dead Rising 2 and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood both for $19.99. :)

No, it is only YMMV that you will get the cashier to scan the bar code for you if you don't have a $14.99 and under game in there. Apparently you can get any two games (with the cheaper one being free of course).

Completely forgot to look at the guides while I was there today. :(

Oh well, I got :ps3: Transformers: WFC, Mindjack, Start the Party, & SWTFUII for $30. Glad to get all I wanted in one store today.
I'm so disappointed that my BBV only has Dragon Age II guides. >_>
Yeah, they don't have a huge selection anyway.

This is what I've seen across several stores (from memory):

Dragon Age II
Halo ODST
Halo Wars
Halo Reach
Animal Crossing City Folk (only seen at 1 store)
Pokedex Black & White
Pokemon Black & White (the regular game guide)
some other Pokedex thing (maybe for Heart/Soul)
FEAR 3
Duke Nukem
Infamous 2

... and while I'm sure I missed a few there weren't many different ones than that. The majority of what I see are the Halo/Pokemon/DA II guides.

I grabbed a Pokemon B/W guide. It was a bit beat up, but it was actually one of the few guides I actually want to "USE". lol

Saw the LBP2 guide for $5. Seemed meaty. Is it worth a pickup?

Saw most of those, plus Assassin Creed II (sealed). Was going to buy it, I don't know where I'd keep it. My room is a mess as it is.

I would probably pick that up if I saw it, but I don't know anything about it otherwise.

Yeah, I think I do remember seeing an AC guide, but I can't remember if it was II or Brotherhood.

stores are getting a transfer and destroy report for game guides this weekend so monday 9/12 should be the last day you see them.

Still can't snag a final fantasy 13 guide. Most of the good games (and possible good flips) at my blockbuster have been taken too. Unless they re stock some final fantasy 13 guides (which I doubt) I will end up empty handed from this sale

Wait you mean they will be thrown out ?

When I got home I noticed my Tron ps3 came w/ an insert w/ dlc code which surprisingly worked. FYI the dlc, which is $4 on psn, includes 2 muliplayer maps and the sam flynn skin. So make sure you guys check for the insert when buying and ask a clerk if they have any inserts that they may have gutted.

Scored Halo Reach, Cysis 2 and LA Noire strategy guides for $5 each. Going back to pickup :360: NFS: Hot Pursuit/SWTFU2, Halo Reach/Bloodstone after work today. Its funny I really wasn't pressed about LA Noire until after flipping through a few pages of the guide, looks pretty cool. Hopefully I can find that today as well.
yep.
Mabye monday night before they close I could convince them to give me the guides or something. They might as well as the guides are seemingly useless to them now

It's been like that for at least the last couple of BOGO sales, but every employee I've talked to about it said they'd get in trouble if they did it. For as much as I'd love to buy a $49.99 game and get one of the same price free, I don't wanna cost someone their job in this shitty economy
unless they were a dick to me or just plain old rude;)
.

Then all bets are off.

If it is anything like old magazines they have to send the covers back to corporate. We did this at MC but we got a slight discount on future magazine purchases for any unsold mags. So I don't know if this would be the same.

Well I took 2 $14.99 games up and 2 $19.99 games up. I wasnt expecting a $19.99 game to come up free. But thats what happened. I didnt ask any questions, I was ready to pay for the 2 $19.99 games and get the 2 $14.99 ones free.

no, we dont have to do that anymore. employees will take whatever they want and throw out the rest.

i would ask them first thing monday morning as once they do them they will probably just throw out whatever the employees dont want.

fuck. According to the BBV store locator the only store I haven't hit during this sale got shuttered during the last round of closings too. That makes three in the same damn area that got shut down and two of them were pretty busy in times past, yet the smallest store is the one that was kept open. Go figure.

Then again, this latest store that I found out has closed would likely be underwater right now with the flooding in PA, so I wouldn't be able to go there till probably AFTER the sale ends anyway.

Is anyone else eagerly anticipating the list of Monday's drops? I'm really hoping for DS2 and AC Brotherhood. Dead Rising 2 would also be nice.

Yes. :bouncy:

If so my BBY in the area will be getting a hefty amount of AC:b. 5 BBV around me and they all have at least 12+ AC:B at all of them.

Don't expect too much here, last Monday had a fairly large list of price drops, while this Monday might as well, I recommend being cautiously optimistic.

I am really hoping that the two stores I frequent do some conversions Sunday night though.

Considering the next Asassin's Creed doesn't come out until November, might not get a price drop yet. I'm not too optimistic considering the big list for this past Monday, but I can hope for 1 or 2 good drops :bouncy:

is killzone 2 at 19.99? I wouldn't mind getting a shattered dimensions at 14.99 either...so Assassins Brotherhood,Dead Space 2, Killzone 2, and some Spidey then im all good...oh DKCR and SMBG....Yeah that would be the business!
