The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Gen. Discussion & Info
Remember, any combined increase of 10 in your Major Skills = A New Level. So before you get those 10 points, make sure you have planned what your going to level up in your Minor Skills to equate a +5 bonus.
Are you sure? I know I have 5 points in Blade and 5 in Athletics, and I haven't leveled up yet.

The DDE's in this game are getting out of control. I've got about 20 of them in the 30 hours ive played its really starting to piss me off. Is anyone elses messing up this much?

Yeah I think I got a bad one.. I had a lot of trouble with Madden as well. Burnout does it too but Ive only had that happen a couple times. PDZ and COD2 played fine though.. weird. Luckily I bought the 2 yr warranty but im having so fun with this game I dont want to lose the system. Im hoping I can keep my HD because im pretty far into the game...

Anyone do that Dark Brotherhood mission where you have to lure everyone to somewhere alone and kill them all off one by one? That was GREAT!!! fuckin hilarious. And when it was jus you and the two guys left, the one guy thougth ti was the other guy, and got a sword and snuck up on him and killed him. Then I just went up to him with my staff, and blew him the fuck away. It was great.

Mine had been freezing up at times but most of my problems were from a corrupt savefile. It only occasionally freezes now when something tries to load.

just finished the Dark Brotherhood questline, pretty ing awesome quests and plot twist in there!

I know what you mean, my roomie is doing those quests, and they seem crazy. I focused on fighters guild myself, and am a bit jealous of all the cool items he gets, while I just get some cash ;)

just happened to me for the first time thank the gods for that auto save lol.

where and when do the vampires start comming out ? do you unlock them with a quest or something ?
where and when do the vampires start comming out ?
The only time i've even encountered one was when I was in a cave once. Looked like a normal person, then it said I contracted vampirosa something or another.

Hmmm any idea which cave that was ?
Mine has frozen a few times but since it doesn't do it with any other game I know its not my 360.
Sure but you remember the early Xbox's. Mine worked fine for 6 months that I used it until new games came out. Castle of Wolfenstein would freeze like crazy but Halo and all the earlier games worked. Also in that 6 month period my system was barely used maybe 15 total.
Are you sure? I know I have 5 points in Blade and 5 in Athletics, and I haven't leveled up yet.
For my character: Breton Spellsword Custom, with the Apprentice Sign. It only requires 10 points in any of my skills combined to get the "You should find somewhere to rest to reflect upon what you have learned".

This could be due to the fact that my Major skills are actually quite low-- because I only use them to boost me up a level whenever I have the 3 +5 Bonuses I want.

I'm not sure if 10 is the standard, or different due to other factors.

Let me know guys, I'd appreciate any input.

On a completely unrrelated note, if you find your game is loading slow or even freezing at certain points during the game, your best bet is to shut the console off, and then load it up again while holding a face button, doing so will erase the cache file that Oblivion is using on the HDD and will speed things up quite a bit. I don't know why they just didn't make it automatic after a certain amount of time-- but many people on the official boards have stated that this works relatively well.

Again, Hold one Face button (X, A,B, Y) at startup to remove the cache, you will not be notified that it is taking place, but it may help those that find things are slowing down for them.

I'm not really worried about it. I have a warranty.

Good. It would be hard to imagine the 360's to have DDE's just like the Xbox's. You'd think they would do everything in there power to have this not happen again.

I've got the DDE with this game a lot...it basically kicks me back to the Dashboard. I have a new system (my 3rd thus far).

I think it was just this game though...I know NBA froze one on me, but it froze....just got stuck and I had to power off.

I haven't experienced one DDE, but I almost got fucked out 50 achievement points for becoming Arch-Mage.

I hadn't regular-saved in awhile, just auto-save.

On my way back to tell everyone the good news I walk in the Arch-Mage lobby and it autosaves. As soon as I walk in though the scene triggered of me being proclaimed arch-mage, but no achievement unlocked.

Luckily the autosave took place literally one second before the conversation took place so I loaded it up and tried again.

Same thing. Tells me I'm arch-mage, but still no achievement. I'm getting a little worried this time so I shut down my console. Turn it back on and load up the autosave. This time it works. Guess third time is a charm.

There are vampires in the Bloodworks in the sewers below the Imperial City. There's an entrance to the Bloodworks both through the sewers or through the basements of a couple of the stores. One of them, I think was the Best Defense and the other the alchemist shop.

just finished the Main Quest, i actually didn't want to finish it, but I got sucked in and kept playing and it was over

BUT OH WELL, still have a shit load more stuff to do.
I'm not really worried about it. I have a warranty.
I don't, my 3 months just ran out and I never sent in the extended warranty card. I live on the edge.

ahhh awesome much appreciated thanks man
ahhh awesome much appreciated thanks man
Sure thing. Might take a while to get there though if you first go through the sewers (not the Imperial Prison, but the city sewer location--one entrance north of the Imperial City near the Arcane University). It's a pretty vast layout.

It freaked me out once I got into the Bloodworks though. At first, I was wondering why there was such unique "decorations" around. Then I snuck up on one dude, stealth killed him, and gasped when I realized while looting him that he was a vampire. It was a Barbarian Vampire Orc, too. Didn't know there could be such a thing.

Alright I need a Bit O' Help. I just got a new fence to sell things to from the Thief's Guild but I can't remember who it is. Anyone know? The first one I have is Ongar.

It's either the broad in Bravil (which I don't think you get that on yet) or a Lizard guy in Choral or Cheyednelelellele (however you spell that one).

P.S. You can still use Ongar if you want. He was the easiet to find and I used him through out the whole game.

Do the others pay more then 600 for stolen stuff?

Yep, each one has I think 200 more gold available -- of course, their Mercantile skills are also higher, so it depends on how much your loot is valued at as to whether or not it's really worth it.
Do the others pay more then 600 for stolen stuff?
Yeah, but not a lot more. The best fence only has 1500 gold to work with and I have items that are worth 15,000 so it sucks. I don't know what to do with the really expensive items.

I think this new one you're working with, probably has about 800 gold to work with.

hey wat's up yall, this game really grows on you doesnt it. But I got 2 questions I couldnt find online:
-what does it mean when you get your afflictions banished at altars?
-when you see the stone with writing that connects a weapon to your hand(dagger for me), do yall just take it whenever you see one or would it be better to activate it only when you need it since it only does it once, or maybe it will give you better weapon later?
thanx

Possible spoilers, but a variety of ways to cheat...

For those of you that want to make 2 game saves, you can add an item cloning glitch that was discovered by a guy at gamefaqs yesterday morning to your money glitch (works on black soul gems and many, many other things). I've also used enchanted gear to achieve a constant chameleon effect, basicly "god mode" you can hit an enemy and it won't strike back, but it is good for stealing stuff. In testing it out, I found that I can kill a guard in front of another guard and nothing happens, but if you kill a mage you still get kicked out. Comine the chaeleon suit w/ the skeleton key w/ the money glictch, w/ the item glitch, w/ my grand black soul gems, I can do whatever I want (I can always take off my chameleon suit or go back to normal lock picks)

cloning topics

Easier way of doing it that was posted on the official elderscrolls forum
1. Draw back bow
2. Go to item menu w/ bow still drawn
3. "unequip the arrows that are equipped" (it will say that you can't)
4. select a different item category than weapons
5. Then you can go back to weapons or to another item category
6. Find the item you want to clone, and drop it
7. Leave the menu and the items should go flying on the ground

Some important notes
1.the number of clones of an item depends on the number of arrows (If you orginally had 15 arrows then you will clone 15 black soul gems that will go flying all over the ground)
2. Be careful with number of items you clone, the game can slow down to a crawl if you had 200 arrows and you clone one of the stones from the oblivion gates.
3. It does work on an item more than once

couple of images that show the result of the cloning

How do you know when you get the +5 bonus to the attribute? It has something to do with how many times you leveled a skill associated with that attribute, right? Is there a way to know or do you just have to save, sleep and then reload if its not right?

Well, I've run into my first major game bug. The bug occurs when I attempt to complete the Clavius Vile Daedra Shrine quest. When I try to give Clavius Vile the item he wanted me to find for him it removes the item and gives me a reward, but then the 360 freezes up. I've tried doing different things, but nothing seems to work. So I guess I'll just never complete the quest and hope that something like this doesn't happen again.

ok now im at level 20 with strength at 68 and my sword is at 5 attack points , my question is this common cause it takes me five minutes just to kill stupid humans and even more to kill a freakin zombie.

If you find you're having trouble you can always turn down the difficulty until you're powered up a bit more.

How long have you been using the sword? What kind of sword is it? What level is your blade skill? The Blades base north of Bruma has an armory you can take stuff from, as well as the imperial arena.

I just finished the Thieves Guild. Pretty cool ending. The last mission is so damn long and hard.

I also got the skeleton key!

I found a bug in the game too...

**Spoilers**

During the Dark Brotherhood quests, you can take a sidequest from one of the other members. Later on you end up having to kill this guy BUT the quest never says "cant complete" or anything and the green marker still leads you to where the guy you killed SHOULD be . Now I have an active/current quest that I have no way of completing, it should just say failed or something .. but oh well not a big deal.

Theres another quest like that for the Arena. The arena champion wants to to look something up for him, but to become arena champion yourself you have to kill him.

Yea. I got the quest when I first go there from him. I worked my way up to the fight with him but I remembered his quest so I hurried and did it before I beat him.

Are there any combat-intensive quests like the Arena that I can work on my blade skills with? I know you get the once-a-week fights, but I really need to up my strength and armor skills. The arena was nice 'cause I could do 3-4 fights a day.

Close Oblivion gates. You'll level up quickly.

There is no way of knowing until you actually check in and see--- The best way to go about doing this is keeping a record of what skills are where when you check in with your 3 +5s, so that you know exactly what you need to upgrade in order to achieve the same thing next level.

Right now I'm working on Int, Will, and Endurance. I have Armorer, Mysticism, and Destruction as Major skills.

So what I do is this--- Even though I don't wear heavy armor, put on a set and get beat on a bit, to raise the skill 5 points, I also practice my blocking a bit and gain 3 points of skill. I then repair the now defunct set of armor for 2 points of Armorer Skill. Which equals 10 toward Endurance, and I have locked in my +5

For Int, I make a load of potions from the food I can get at the Blade's HQ, and bump my skill up 3. I summon a Few Scamps as well to get my conjuration up 2 points. I then keep casting Life Detect to raise my Mysticism 5 points. This brings the total raised INT skills to 10, and I have my +5

For Willpower, I go to Leyawin, and practice my Alteration on a locked door, gaining 7 points (I need 3 skill ups to level, and 3 Willpower skill ups to get a +5). In the same town I Practice shooting fireballs at the Infiniscamps to get +3 Destruction, getting +5 Will and my Level Locked in.

As such when I rest, I only have the option of putting my 3 tokens in each of the +5 Skills-- Barring any random skillups like Acrobatics.

Well it's not all that complex, and I just wrote that so you'd have an idea of what to do for getting a perfect +5 level. Really, the game allows you to mix and match what you'd like to do-- as long as you have a good idea what you want to level, and what skills affect which stats, you should be fine.

The only problematic thing is that if you have multiple major skills that affect one stat- you're pretty much locked into raising only those Major Skills for your level, or else you'll get a lower multiplier.

Yes, it was probably the biggest pain in the ass next to closing the Great Oblivion gate. I too liked the ending and I use the "gift" all the time, besides when I'm in town.
Close Oblivion gates. You'll level up quickly.
Or just go around raiding random dungeons/mines/aylied ruins. Not only was I able to get my blade and block up that way, but the loot is nice too.

I'll still have to read that through about 20 times and have a diagram for myself to get it, but I'll get there.

So basically pick 3 major skill sets you want the +5 to go twards and then find a corresponding minor skills that go towards and use those over and over to get the number of points towards leveling? I'm so confused. And it seems so simple.

Exactly. Just make sure you leave enough skills outside of your major skill bracket-- so you can always use one skill to level up a Stat. It's not too difficult.
