The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Gen. Discussion & Info
Thanks, that helps, but I was looking for something like you hold some button when the Bethesda Software logo comes up
Hold A. It does the exact same thing Surferflames posted.
Anyone know how to go about moving an NPC that has decided to pace back and forth instead of leading me to the area he wants me to go? This quest NPC just goes up and down the stairs over and over. Can't interact with him any futher than I have, and I can't push him off.

I even tried punching the guy, but now all he does is pace up and down with his sword drawn.
was it the torture guy? I had the same problem, so I hit "Back" and waited 1 hour in game... he cleared that area immediately.

Actually it was a guy toward the end of the fighters guild quest. "Infiltration"

Anyway i put on "the cowl" and knocked him accross the room with a heavy swing. When he regained consciousness the pathing reset. I tried this after waiting, coming back a few days later, rebooting, etc.

Just plain killing him wouldnt work, had to litterally get him off the damn staircase.

im going to buy this game from a cager

in anticipation

i went ms points crazy today

I already had downloaded merunes razor from when they were giving it away

I downloaded

Knights of the Nine

Spell Tomes

Thieves den

Wizards Tower

This week im going to by a 1600 point card so i can get shiviring isles

you should've passed on the Spell Tomes and got Vile Lair instead.

I've heard that there are only 2 really good spells that you can't make in the game without it. (One being a Summon Bear spell I think)

Can someone snap a picture of how this game looks in HD on an LCD monitor or TV? For some reason when I played this game it looks like crap on my LCD computer monitor compared to other games like DJ: Icon or NBA: Homecourt. It may be due to the fact that it was a launch title, but it shouldn't look THAT bad.

watch the HD trailers:

Over 40 hours into the game, I should know this, but are you free to take any weapons from the Fighter's Guild for personal use? I noticed it says "Take" rather than "Steal" on such items.

As long as there is no little red hand icon when you go to take it, you can without any problems.

It wasn't a launch title, but it was sort of in the launch window (March 20, 2006.)
Wow...I don't know what it is but my visuals do not look that clear.
Check you A/V plug on the back of the 360. Put the switch on the opposite of whatever it is on now and see what happens.

It's through VGA through a computer LCD monitor.

Did they release a patch this morning? I just downloaded an auto-update.

Not sure, but it could be to fix the problems caused by SHivering Isles.
Where's the cheapest place to get Oblivion? It's still $54.99 used at EB, which is just heinous.
I think it is $50 new at amazon.

Shivering Isles for the PC just got patched, the item bug is now fixed... hopefully this means a patch coming for you 360 folk as well.

It might be the one Brak was talking about.

i just got one from a cag for 36 shipped

Has anyone called Microsoft about getting dirty disc error? If so, what was the result?

I've been getting DDEs, but now it seems like I've come to an immediate involuntary stop. I'm trying to do the first Brotherhood quest. I'm at the Ill Omen Inn and after a few seconds, the game freeze and is unreadable. I can't get out, can't talk to anyone.

What should I do to solve this problem? I tried clearing the cache, but the result was nil.
My xbox is still under warranty btw and never had this problem with any other game.

nobody's really discussing this in the PS3 forum, so I thought I'd ask here. Anyone have suggestions for any good non-quest related caves or places to explore? I only have the main game since there aren't expansions for the ps3 one yet.

not really... I will say that deadric quests net you some nice stuff. Never loose that Skull Key once you get it... it's an unbreakable lockpick and probably the one item I'll never stop using.

I can't wait to get that thing. You get that through the Thieve's Guild, right? I just started the fighter's guild, but it seems worth it to get the skull key early on since lockpicks seem to be more scarce after the beginning of the game.

actually, the theives guild won't net you a skull key... it's one of the deadra quests... it's an easy quest and kinda fun.

I think you have to be at least level 10 before you start that quest though.

damn, that would involve going up 3 levels, which I can do, but not sure if I want to do. although I'm pretty much done boosting everything up to 50.

I just bought this game on Sunday along with Gears at BB with the $50 sale + $10 off 2 games.

All I have to say is Wow. I hated Morrowind, but this game is awesome. I'm not sure what changed between the two, but this game is far more enjoyable to me.

Here's an explanation from another forum Myke:

Its based on what skills you raised between the two levels. Each skill is goverened by one of the attributes. Blade is strenght, Conjuration is intelligence, sneak is agility, etc. Each time you raise a skill it increases the ammount that the governing attribute will be raised should you select it at level up. So if you want to get your intelligence higher in the next level up, raise the skills goverened by it mulitple times. I'm not sure how many it takes, but I think its +2 for the first and second skill for an attribute. Each skill raised for the attribute then adds an additional +1 up to +5. And non major skills are factored as well, so its not just the major skills that are monitored for skill raises. And if you don't level up right away, it continutes to monitor what skills are being used during the next 10 major skill increases. So if you raise your major skills 20 times between sleeping you would then raise 2 levels and the game would have kept track what skills you used during the 11-20 skills.

not sure if that's entirely accurate. I just level up skills and never sleep in the game, then when I do level up, I should get 5s.

Thanks. I figured it would be something like that. I don't believe that you level up more than once if you sleep one time, so something in that quote may be inaccurate (or I'm a dolt).

Apossum,

I'm not sure your right here. I have leveled up two-three levels consecutively before. I didn't get all 5's. It depends what you leveled up between those 10 primary skill level ups that matter.

I had some times where I could gain a 3 in strength, then gain another 3 in strength the next level up, as opposed to getting a 5.

I'm also not sure why everyone avoids leveling up. I like the stronger enemies. Early on, they can be a bit tough, but it's never so bad that it ruins the game (and most of the time you should be able to run away).

i just copied and pasted someone else's response, but i thought it sounded plausible...I underlevelled to make sure I'm always strong enough and to make sure I get all the best equipment at each level.

speaking of which, I need to get my fix of oblivi-crack before class now :)
Are there any plans to get Shivering Isle on a disc for 360?
Pete Hines casually mentioned releasing a super edition of Oblivion containing everything down the road. But nothing serious. The general vibe given by Bethesda has been "marketplace only"

Grr.. I'm not a big fan of this digital download bs. I want physical objects for games.

Shivering Isles on Disc!!!

ife is good for fans of massive fantasy worlds who haven't yet found time to see what the whole internet craze was about. Not only will The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year edition be released next week on 360 and PC, but next month you'll be able to buy a standalone disc containing the Shivering Isles expansion along with the Knights of the Nine DLC. The disc will retail for $29.99, a $10 savings over those who bought the packs through Xbox Live.

But take note of that "Storage Required" sticker on the box, you still need to have a hard drive for the expansions to live on. Those of you rocking the Core systems are unfortunately still out of luck.

this is soooo perfect for me, i don't have Shivering Isles or Knights expansion, i can't wait >_
What will the GOTY edition of Obvlivion have?
