The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Gen. Discussion & Info

Very nice. Just getting started in the game, but free content is nice. I jumped on another free download (Someone's Razor) last Christmas when it was free and it's in the game I just bought now. You can even download and delete; as long as it's in your download history it'll be free for you whenever you want it.

Well, I was excited to find that Shivering Isle is getting it's own disc release (just saw it on an Amazon email). Still, I wonder why not release it with all of the DLC on that disc? What is the point of holding off on that content?

Also, does anyone know if another expansion pack is planned? There was 2 last time, but since they released a GOTY version of the game, I figured this last DLC might be it.

So, has anyone downloaded this yet? Anyone play though it, enjoy it?

Not that it'll matter, free dlc to my favorite game on the 360, I'm getting it.
That's my one bitch about the PS3 version, they are missing so much of the smaller add-ons. Yeah it's got KotN, and Shivering Isles, but it misses out on this and other goods (like horse armor).
I suppose, but you're really talking about the difference between 160 and 165 hours of gameplay, y'know? I do totally understand, but only think that the smallest portion of gamers will find that they've run out of things to do in Oblivion.

I know what pisses me off: getting RROD on my 360 this week so I can't download the content during its exclusive free week. I'll have to pay for it if I want it, since Microsoft has a console with a 100% failure rate. Thanks guys!

From the way the press release for this DLC was worded, you may be SOL unless you have a memory card and know afriend with XBL...this content is limited to this week only and it will be gone after that.
How likely is it that Blockbuster/Hollywood will have the GotY edition, though?
I dunno about Blockbuster but Hollywood didn't get it at all.

this blows I have no internet connection good enough for XBox Live right now..

Maybe they'll put it on an OXM disc someday in the future.. or in a uber-collectors edition.

He wouldn't even need a memory card, just someone he trusts enough with his account information. They recover on their 360 and download it so it's tied to his account, then he can redownload later.

No. It's free for a week, and will be priced after that.

First, I wanted to let you know that we are finally releasing the last piece of downloadable content we created for Oblivion. We had mentioned it a long, long time ago but we hadn’t released it, until now. Starting Monday, October 15 it will be available to download via Xbox Live (for Xbox 360) and elderscrolls.com (for PC). And, for one week, it will be free to anybody who wants to download it and play it. So mark it on your calendars and don’t forget.

Well, I snagged it last night...

Even though Oblivion is the reason I wanted a 360 originally, I just haven't been able to pull the trigger on buying the game. I know it is such an incredible time-waster that I've been hesitant ;).

Played around in the Castle a little bit (before my disc froze...again.) Just make sure to check behind the archery room, you'll find something interesting :)

Uh...I'm freaking stuck! I mean it. I am 100% stuck!

Here's the deal:
I'm in the
Thieves Guild Hall since I completed it about 2 months ago.
and the damn front door will not open! What the hell. Stupid content making my door not open. Can't believe this. I hope there's a way around this mess :\

I bought all the castle upgrades except the Dwemer forge (I'll buy that in a bit), and it's a nice little base. Not as cool as Frostcrag, but fun. The taxidermist is a neat option. Now I just need to find some Dreadroth teeth. Might be hard since I closed all the oblivion gates >.

I haven't had a chance to go through the entire side quest that's attached to it, but it's a nice castle as far as I understand. It's northwest from the first abbey/monestary place you visit in the main quest.

You fend off maurader's and then take the castle. Then you get the joy of repaying the debt. I wonder what'll happen when I do... so that's the next "to do" item for me.

Oh, right, after I close the gate of Oblivion.

I have a question. I have the original Oblivion for 360, and want the extra content in the GOTY edition. But, I don't want to buy the game or just the expansion. So, my question is can I just rent the GOTY edition, install the bonus content on disc 2, return it and still play it?

Because Blockbuster changed their rental policy for games to like $.99 a day recently.

Yes.

I have a question about the GotY edition. I know it has the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine on there. Does it have any of the other additional downloadable content on it?
No.
Thanks, I'm trying to decide on trading for the regular version of Oblivion and then download all of the extras or if I should just get the GotY edition.

What!? The content isn't on a disc? How does this work, is it a unique code per game?

To me it sounds like the content is on a second disc and you just install it from there. I'm guessing the first disc is the regular Oblivion game or one that is enhanced with better framerate/gameplay.

That's what I figured but it sounds too good to be true. If this is the case, I gotta see if I can get a copy sent to me via GameFly.

I can confirm that the 2nd disc of the GOTY will work with the original copy of Oblivion. I just downloaded Shivering Isles from the 2nd disc and it works fine with my original copy the game. I rented from Gamefly. It copies the expansions to your hard drive as if you downloaded them from the marketplace, kind of like the Halo 2 map pack disc.
Get the regular edition, rent the GotY edition, download the content, return the GotY edition.
This was my plan but no one rents the GotY edition anywhere around here (not Hollywood or Blockbuster, anyway, and I don't want to sign up for Gamefly just for this - all my HV and BB rentals are free now).

So now I've ended up just not getting any version. It is funny, this is THE game I wanted to get a 360 for but now I just can't get myself to shell out for it though I've bought plenty of other games for nearly the same price. Now I'm going to probably wait for a price drop on the GotY edition. I just know I'll sink countless hours into this and it will render all my other games useless so I have no problem waiting ;).

By the way, there is the ultimate compliment for Oblivion in the new Simpsons Game:
At the end you confront God (and do a DDR style dance-off to "Rock You Like a Hurricane"). Afterwards Bart gets a hold of God's memory card and uses it as a bargaining chip. The reason God wants it back: he's on the final boss in Oblivion and doesn't want to have to start all over again. ;)

Awesome...I'ts on my Gamefly queue now. Thanks.

Good luck, it's been on the top of my queue since it's release in Sept, but it's always skipped over.

I am making a christmas list, and since most people spend 20-40 on me i thought maybe i could get the 30 dollar Oblivion and use some of my 4,600 MS points on the rest that comes with the game of the year edition. But as i look at the things you can add to this game, Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine are for sure locks. But thats 3,100 points right there! Thats almost 40 extra dollars right there. So GOTY edition seems the right choice. But does that game come with the small extras like Spell Tomes, or The Vile Lair? One more thing to ask, if i did get the 30 dollar oblivion, could i rent the GOTY edition and use it to save the extra content onto my hard drive? I am not sure how that works.

thanks for any advice.

GOTY = better deal as its not on the Hard Drive taking up valuable space.

Not sure if it comes with the crappy extras.

You could NOT save the extra content to the HD. It doesn't work like that.
The data streams off the disc so there is no practical way worth trying that would equal success.

Hope I helped, haha!
