The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Gen. Discussion & Info
So I just totally fucked up the last Heist in the Thieve's Guild final quest.

I talked to the blind monk, and a quest update popped up, telling me I should run. So I did. All the way back to the damned Elven Garden District. With no scroll.

I had a really weird thing happen today..

I was doing the main quest that consisted of me going to some ruins and retreving an item. I got this item and quickly left the ruins. I tried to fast travel to where I needed to be but it wouldnt let me because "enemies were nearby." I stood there for about 3-5 minutes and nothing came so I tried again but still got the message "enemies are nearby." I got annoyed and started running towards my destination (REALLY far away would have taken about 15 minutes to get there). I ran into some enemies and killed them and tried to fast travel.. "enemies are nearby." At this point I was getting really frusterated so I went to the closest city and tried to sleep in a bed hoping it would clear up the glitch but I couldnt even sleep because it kept giving me that message about enemies being near. I finally picked a lock infront of a guard and went to jail. When I got out of jail this is what I saw..

Finally after killing all these mysterious zombies and ghosts that appeared out of no where I could fast travel again. Very weird..

I had this happen once when I was running from some guards, and had started to run from Anvil to the Imperial City... after running about halfway there I was able to fast travel though.

What the Hell?

Does it have anything to do with the item you got?
What the Hell?

I'm guessing he's talking about the quest to Miscarcand. Those look like zombies from the cave and in one of them you can see the undead king or whatever. You must have not killed him and so he might be a monster that chases you for ever unless you kill it. Weird.

The Thieves Guild missions are awful. I'm glad I'm almost done with the game, because these missions are pissing me off.

Edit : I'm stuck on the last mission. I'm in that room where all the guards are sleeping and I can't seem to sneak past them. My sneak skill is horribly low because I'm bad at stealth and haven't needed it until this point. The first time I tried to kill them all the blind monks attacked me. Is there a way to finish this mission without having to sneak through that room?

Yep that was the quest. I cleared out the dungeon but when I picked up the item , the undead king and zombies appeared. I was sick of fighting so I just ran. The weird thing is i stood outside the ruins for 3-5 minutes waiting on the enemies to appear and they never did. They didnt show up until I went to jail and got out.

Did you get the scroll? After you get that, you have to get to the very top and go through the mage's chambers. Go right past the sleeping blind monks.

I agree, though, the mages and theives guild missions were the worst.

I dont have much to add to the conversation but I just wanted to say I got this game last week and I've been playing it all weekend and I absolutely love it. The graphics are amazing and there's so much customization and what not. And I may just be easily pleased but I was completely wowed when I left the prison sewers and climbed to the top of the mountain that the main city is on and looked back over the valley and saw all the trees and lakes and what not.

I just completed the last achievement last night, however the Thieves guild missions did piss me off too. On the last missions I got down to one lockpick and had to open 2 very hard doors. Suffice to say I did a shitload of loading and it was a real pain in the ass.

Get the Skeleton Key. Best item in the game.

Yeah, I finally beat the Thieves Guild missions last night too. The last mission is complete ass if you aren't a character who uses sneak a lot. It felt like I couldn't take more than 2 steps without the stupid blind monks hearing me.

Thank GOD that's over with, though. Now its back to the main storyline and doing what I do best - summoning creatures to fight for me while I run away like a little girl shooting fireballs.

The Orery Pack is now availible for Download. It costs 150 points. I'll DL this when I'm done with the Fighter's and Thief's Guild Quests.

Just wondering if anyone has DL'ed this yet and if its worth it.

The Orery looks cool ... it gives an additional .. very short .. quest .. and you get some decent powers from the Orrey that you can change every once in a while.

Might not be worth it to the people who bitched about the horse download.

I however found it worth the price of a burger.

I decided to buy it recently even though I had it on PC. PC suffered from major performance problems even on a decent rig. Many of the settings were low too in terms of the draw distances so it pissed me off. And if you take away too much... well the game looks damn ugly on the PC. Runs much better than it does on my PC thankfully but I do notice loading is longer and it does get choppy still with noticeable frame drops which is pretty dissapointing =(

Agreed.

The quest can be done in ten minutes, but the Orery looks very cool.

It was worth the points.

Hello Oblivioneers!

I just started the game yesterday, well actually just created my character. I've been afraid to pop this game in because I might start neglecting others but I decided to start it anyway.

Do I need to fragment my drive?
Any tips for newcommers to the series? I know nothing about the game.
I picked the Lion (cause it looked cool), good idea/bad idea? Does it matter?
Can you be evil in the game like KOTOR?

Thanks

I always hold in A button everytime I turn Elder Scrolls on.

There really aren't too many tips other then Once you hit a new level you must find a bed and rest to gain that level. Upon making your character you get 8 major skills. Pick the skills you think your gonna use alot to build your level. You only level when your Major skills level up. Every 10 major skills level ups = 1 level for you.

The Kahjiit is pretty cool. He can run faster then anyone and jump higher of the bat since he is like a master in acrobatics.

You can be evil sorta but then if your stats get damaged you won't be able to pray them off at the church. If you wanna become evil become a Vampire :)

I was turned into a vampire about 1 hour into the game. The first quest I did for the daedric artifact was to clear a vampire den. The first time the first fucker hit me (5 steps into the mine) I got polymorphic hemophelia.

Cure it now before it turns into fullblown vampirism or you're in for a world of annoyingness.
Cure it now before it turns into fullblown vampirism or you're in for a world of annoyingness.
I played 99% of the game as a vampire.

Vampirism is kinda fucked up. I'd go like three days without feeding and be fine in the sun. Then I'd feed and rest an HOUR and take sun damage. :wall:

I just got a mod that flipped Vampirism. You're stronger when you feed and not the other way.

Alrightey then. I foundthe sun damage to be way too fucking annoying so I did the cure quest which took FOREVER.

Is it just me or are the framerates outside bad?......... Also loading every minute on the horse is annoying as hell....

Yea, frame rates are pretty poor outdoors. Its the fucking grass. I get an FPS of about 50 with grass off and about 15-20 with it on. :wall:

Ok finally got out of the sewers and entered the town. I've been able to lockpick my way into Merchants basements and steal some stuff and then get caught. Is there a way to steal stuff without getting caught, or is it something that my character builds and I'll be albe to do later? Also if you get caught and go to jail, what's the downside besides paying the bounty fine?

Go into stealth mode when stealing. The little eye will be dim when no one can see you. It will be lighted if someone can see you. Never steal when the eye is lighted up. Also its pointless to steal anything you don't need. Unless you are in the Thief's guild then you can sell all the stolen goods. But you can't sell any stolen goods to regular merchants.

Alright then, I wont worry about that till I join the guild. Thanks.

Played a bit more, i'm actually glad I got it for 360 even tho I bought the PC version earlier. Things run much better though not as good as I'd hoped for a console. Visuals are comparible though with a really expensive system it would look much better on a PC. But yeah keyword, expensive system ;)

How often do you need to clear out the cache? I have random times where loading takes a long ass time o_O........

Oh yeah wooo finally crashed for the first time in a loading screen yesterday! wooooo!

How do you get the cure vampirism quest? i am not a vampire by choice, I just got bit one day in my sleep and have no idea how to cure it. I would like to do that ASAP.
Sorry for the dumb question:

How do you use Soul Stones?

Can you create magic weapons/armor or do you have to buy/find them?
the sigil stones you get from closing Oblivion gates are used to make magic weapons and armor. just click on a sigil stone and itll take you to an enchantment screen.

I see. Not that far ahead yet. Guess I'll have to get cracking instead of exploring ;)

Thanks for your help AshesofWake
Sorry for the dumb question:

If you are talking about the "Soul Gems," they are different from the sigil stones that AshesofWake describes in his reply.

Soul Gems are used to recharge magic items in the game. In short: They replenish the number of “charges” that in item has. When you have your cursor over a soul gem it will say its level. If it says “none” then it is uncharged and can’t be used on a magic item. If it says something else (for example: “lesser”), then it can be used to add charges to an item.

You charge Soul Gems by casting the “Soul Tap” spell on an opponent before you kill them. Most “Soul Tap” spells will only work for a small amount of time, like 10 seconds or so, so it needs to be cast right before the finishing blow. Once you cast the spell successfully, and kill the creature, its soul will be added to the smallest Soul Gem in your inventory.

Also, it seems that Soul Gems are single use items, so choose wisely when recharging magic items.

Thank you. He did answer answer my question on how to make magical items but I was also wondering about soul gems. I'm not sure if I have "Soul Tap" spell yet. Thanks for the info.
