The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Gen. Discussion & Info
Yea, I was slow to figure that one out - I'm still trying to figure out how to do multiple enchantments on weapons/armor :whistle2:s
I don't think you can. Only special items can have multiple enchants.
I don't think you can. Only special items can have multiple enchants.
That would explain why I can't do it then :D

just got this today. holy shiz.

now-- someone please tell me what bugs and glitches to avoid (i'm a thief, if that makes any difference)

I haven't ran into any, really... just some funny ones that don't really hinder the gameplay.
The only house I've bought so far was the Imperial City house, and some of the furnishing included a dining table, chairs for around the fire, drawers, and an endtable for the bed.
That house is smaller then my bedroom.
I own that house and the mansion in Anvil. I'm a cheap ass in the game, just like I'm a cheap ass in real life.

i just spent three hours in sideways cave, stalking imps...wtf. this game is crack/cocaine!

I think I'm going to go for all the achievements. All I need are a few Fighter's Guild ones, pretty much all the Thieve's Guild ones, and the last two main quest achievements. Still sittin' pretty at 103 hours :)
I just beat the fighters guild quests. The last one was really cool. Now I'm off to do the thieves guild quests. Just sold 50 gold worth of stuff to that guy in Bruma, now I can get missions. I remember these being really fun in Morrowind so hopefully these are too.
The Thieves Guild missions are more frustrating than they are fun. Just wait until the last few missions. You're going to want to throw your controller through the wall.

All I need in order to get all the Achievement points is to complete the Fighters and Mages Guild and the last two main quest things.

For the love of God, why does the main quest have to suck so much? Having to close an Oblivion gate in each and every main city is just fucking rediculous. I've only closed three of them so far and I'm already sick of it. "Allies for Bruma" has to be the worst quest in the game that I've come across.

Actually you do not have to close any of the gates, you can skip that quest as a whole. If you complete it though, you get all of those towns to help you out in the final battle thing, but I really didn't need it.

I totally agree, in fact this is probably the part of the game that killed it for me. I wanted to complete the main quest but then this popped up. I find myself playing about once every few days, I'll beat a gate and then turn it off and then beat another gate a few days later. Real days, not game days.

Does anyone know where I can find or buy Daedric gauntlets? I've had every other piece of Daedric armor and weapons forever now, but for the life of me I can't find any damn gauntlets. No one drops them, and I haven't seen any stores that sell anything beyond steel armor.

Thirded. My save game is standing right outside of Bruma waiting for the huge gate to open, but I hate closing the Oblivion gates so much that I haven't done a thing with it.

Read my post above, you don't have to complete that quest. Just go straight Bruma (I think it is) and talk to the queen. She tells you that you haven't retrieved the allies, but asks if you just want to continue.

meh that doesn't seem as fun, I would rather have as many allies as possible.

Yes I know I just complained about the missions.

I felt the same way but unfortunately, it seemed like the number of allies didn't really matter in the end.

Don't worry, once you beat the Oblivion gates and get the items for Martin, the game's finale more than makes up for the frustration of the gates. I just ran through them without killing anything and beat most of them fairly quickly. I turned the difficulty down though so I sorta cheated... heh.

I just beat all the thieves guild quests tonight. Now I have to complete the dark brotherhood and mage guild quests and I've earned all the achievements.

I was ticked because I played it 3 times and each time I just couldn't keep Jaufre from getting killed.

Patch coming sometime next week ....

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3151176
It's been months since Bethesda Softworks shipped The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and while the company's pimped their downloadable content to no end, a patch to fix some of the rough spots that weren't ironed out before release has been long coming. At least the wait's not far off now. The company confirmed to 1UP that an official patch is in the final stages of development and certification, and should be available for both PC and Xbox 360 users sometime next week.
But what if you don't have access to Xbox Live? The company's looking into a number of options, including bundling the patch onto a disc with the Official Xbox Magazine. "We'll make it available via whatever means are out there for any game to get updates to people playing the game," said public relations head Pete Hines.
I just started playing this game on 360 (I played it on PC, but only through the first gate).

I'll tell you guys how things go and I'll be expecting answers to any questions I might have =P

Imperial city confuses me. It's so giant. Kinda like the game. I don't understand where you get quests from besides the main. I guess I just need to explore. Also, I read somewhere about transporting from town to town. What's this about?

You mostly get quests from talking to people in the various towns. Or if you join a guild (i.e. Thieves, Fighters, Mage, Dark Brotherhood) you'll get quests from that.

And to "teleport" as some may call it from town to town just open up your map and click on a location and it will ask you if you want to travel to this location and just say yes. The thing is you can only do that if you've visited that location once before.
Okay, my progress to next level bar is full. How do I actually go on to the next level?
Find a bed and go to sleep.
If I have a horse, and I teleport, will the horse teleport with me >_>?
It SHOULD, but I've had it happen where I had to go back to where I got the horse on rare occasion-- but then itd follow me again.

This is just for Shadowmere though.

WOO HOO! I just finally got all the achievements. I still have TONS of quests left to do too, including the download content. I still have more to go. Though one of the quests I can't beat due to a glitch so I gotta wait for that damn patch and hope it fixes it.
just finished the main quest, ending suprised me.......
Good or bad surprised? I'm not quite sure I enjoyed the ending too much.

i don't actually know, I guess it's neutral

I'm 93 hours in, level 25, and barely scratched the surface of the main quest. The fact that everyone is bitching about it makes me in no hurry to get further into it.

I have about 20 active quests at all times, and just run around exploring, finding new areas. When I'm in a town for one mission, I'll see what else I have on the grocery list to do there. I just got the skeleton key, though I already made a spell that allows me to open any lock. I think I also just found my ninth and final fountain thing. I couldn't be having more fun.

I havent played this game in about a month since I've just about done all the quests. I thought about starting over with a magic type guy this time. I am going to be a High Elf born under the sign of the Apprentice. Any suggestions for what I should use as my major / minor skills in order to level up in a good way. I've read through the balanced character FAQ but I'd like some suggestions. My last guy was a warrior so this time I want to be VERY good in magic and be able to cast all the spells the game has to offer.

Shot in the dark here, but I would imagine you'd want Mystic, Conjuration, Damage, and Restoration as your major skills. On the less than obvious front, you may want to put Athletics as a major, so you can run away while you shoot spells. As a magician, you're probably less likely to sneak, since you get no bonus on spells, so you'll earn Athletics experience all the time.

The great thing about most types of magic is that you can continually level them up by repeating a spell (Unlock on barrels or Bound Dagger then unequipping then repeating), so you should be able to work up the ranks in no time.

General question about the game: I'm finding merchants have no more than 1200 gold on hand, yet I pick up stuff I want to sell that's worth 4K. What's the best option for selling them? Do I need to get my mercantile up or something?

I can't help but quote Shang Tsung from Mortal Kombat (the movie) while casting soul trap spells - "Yor soul is mine!"

Do patches automatically download when I put the game disk in, or do I have to manually go somewhere on the marketplace and download them?
This is my only 360 game, so I have no idea how patches are handled on the 360.

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6152387.html

The PC patch came out today and the 360 patch comes out tomorrow, and it will probally be an auto update, so it will not be on Marketplace. It's optional for PC players, but required for 360 users it seems. The update gets rid of the duping bug and a few quest glitches.

My character is not magic focused, but I do have Conjuration as a minor skill. Problem is I have nothing I can conjur, and any spell I ever come across has a higher level requirement than I have. Can anyone tell me where I can get a very easy level Conjure spell so I can level up that skill?

Damn, guess I gotta do the money cheat one last time tonight.

Well they are fixing the big one that everyone complains about (the guy disappearing in the well for the Mage's Guild recommendation) so that's a good thing. Hope it fixes some of the lock ups I get too. Have to remember to do the merchantile thing before it patches though.

What glitch was that? Is it the kid who has the ring of burden inside the well? I guess I lucked out as it didn't happen to me. I had to go in there twice, the first time I was over encumbered, didn't know it was going to be so much.

I think it's Chorrol's Mage Guild, but I could be making that up. If I'm wrong, just tour the cities' mages guilds; shouldn't take you too long. The best way to get your Conjuration level up is to buy a Bound (Weapon) spell -- dagger, mace, whatever. Cast it, hold X to put away the weapon, then cast it again. You'll go up in no time.

Weapons are much easier than Bound (Armor) spells, because those you basically have to wait for them to wear off, while the weapon ones can be rapid-fired.

Ah, yes. That's when I learned how cool Feather potions/spells are. Now, I always have to have my Pack Mule spell active or I'm over-encumbered. I'm carrying around like 685 pounds of crap.
