The Official PlayStation Vita Thread - 11/4: FW 3.00 Coming Just in Time for the PS4 Launch!
Posting from my phone but GOW collection and ICO collection are able to be played via remote play today!
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012...of-the-colossus-collections-to-ps-vita-today/
Well that was incredibly unexpected so soon. Will gladly couch play through the gow collection while watching mindless tv. Now that I've finished ffxiii (finally) I'm dreaming that somehow ffxiii-2 gets remote play support too.

It's great to see Sony supporting the platform.

I can see myself using my Vita much more often with this and the PSOne update.

"Supporting" is one thing, following through is another.

I'm not knocking them because I absolutely adore my Vita regardless of the recent updates, but these are things that were announced a long time ago and should have been available from the start.

Anyone able to get the disk version of ICO/SOTC working?

I got an update when I started up GOW Collection but no update for the ICO/SOTC collection.

I get that it would've added some bulk and that the back touchpad is a band-aid, but I sincerely wish Sony would have added 2 additional shoulder buttons. It's already pretty much a Dualshock... just go for it, you know?

The back controls just don't 'work' for me. My hands sit comfortably where I either keep accidentally hitting them, or I miss when I go to hit a specific spot. I get that it'll take some hand re-training, but still.

I'm honestly surprised that someone hasn't made a snap on set of L2/R2 triggers that work like that dumb ipad typewriter add-on. You push the trigger and a button pushes the touch pad where they want your fingers to be.

remote play works waaay better than I thought it would. I have fairly crappy connectivity around my house and there were virtually no hiccups. it looks decent, sounds good, and it was a fine reminder of how terrible I am at God of War games. I hope they keep patching it in to titles, even if it's just hd collections.
If you're doing the direct connection to your PS3, then your internet connection will have no effect on that.
crappy wireless actually, the router is in one corner of the house and everything else is on the other side. my house is like a gigantic faraday cage when it comes to any sort of wireless signals (cell phone, wifi, etc). plaster walls and having the ps3 on a different floor than I was playing generally makes the direct connection pretty sluggish but it was still really smooth. Just surprised. I can't imagine how it works over the internet though.
Killzone is getting HD collection for all 3 games. Hope for remote play therein?
Looks like we won't be getting it.

I kind of want ICO/Shadow of the Collossus as a stand alone Vita game more since I have them on PS2. A portable ICO without the tethering would be nice or am I missing the whole point of remote play?

I just want to be able to play on the go without having to have my PS3 running at home.

Well, theoretically the idea should be that more games get 'ported' because it's a lot easier to add a hook in the game for cross play as opposed to actually porting it.

This is kind of the shit that gets me. Sony should be making these developers enable remote play on their games to show some support to their damn handheld and the people that bought it. It's just an afterthought it seems, which is a shame because it's such a cool piece of hardware.

I firmly believe the Vita was created while the PS4 was being locked down. It's clear the PS3 just doesn't have enough memory to compensate for this kind of feature while allowing the games to still look AAA. I'm quite surprised Sony is able to get the games to look this good via remote play to be honest.

That said, I'm really looking forward to seeing what Sony does with the PS4 in general, but especially with the Vita as a companion device.

Is this everyone's experience? I've been trying to play God of War for days now and it's so choppy its not worth playing. My Internet connection is fine and never runs slow. Direct connect or wifi this thing has a game killing delay.

Any one else have this problem with a delay?

Where I left off was right before a boss battle. I could not beat it, considering how you have to be precise with those QTEs. I gave up and knocked it out on the PS3, with no issues. Makes me think twice about trying to beat the game on the Vita.

I can't imagine the Vita staying strong enough for the two years it will take the PS4 to come out, to be a companion device, if things stay on this course. Heck, I can see the thing being hacked by then and being in PSP territory, especially with the recent developments in that scene.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/09/14/dokuro-on-ps-vita-this-little-skeletons-got-guts/

The charming skeletal hero Dokuro may not get the love he deserves, but that certainly doesn’t stop him from saving the day. With a captivating chalk-drawn setting and adorable fairytale themes, Dokuro provides a unique platform-puzzle experience that will flex your mind and heart!

One day Dokuro’s boss, the great and powerful Dark Lord, returns to his castle with a beautiful princess in tow. I suppose “in-cage” is more accurate, since this particular princess did not come of her own free will. From the moment Dokuro lays his eyes on her, our bony hero is love-struck and resolves to save her from his master’s treacherous castle.

The Princess pays no mind to imminent danger and will automatically move forward until she reaches an obstacle she cannot cross. Dokuro’s main goal is to get the Princess from point A to point B. Naturally the path is always complicated by traps, pitfalls, and the occasional flying demon. These puzzles will take all the moxie and gumption you can muster as you travel through floors of ever-increasing complexity. As you progress, you uncover new abilities like the Hero Transformation mode that allows you to slash enemies to bits, and the almighty chalks that let you directly manipulate your surroundings with the touch of your finger.

It may seem a strange thing to have a seemingly invisible skeleton save the day, but Dokuro’s unsung endeavors are precisely what make the little scamp so relatable. Before the development team had even begun work on Dokoru, the game’s producer brought in children’s books filled with heartwarming fairytales to inspire the team. The classic storybook style is clearly evident, but the team decided on a unique twist. It was originally suggested that the protagonist be a handsome knight, but something about the little skeleton minion struck a chord with the designers and they decided it would make for a much more interesting story to have the Dark Lord’s own peon save the day. Dokuro may not be the hero the Princess expected, but he’s the only one she has – even if she doesn’t notice him! The game’s themes of unrequited love and tireless devotion are so clearly conveyed that any text is almost completely unnecessary. Dokuro is a skeleton-man of action and his beads of inexplicable sweat say more than mere words could ever convey!

It’s weird to think of a pile of bones as being cute or charming, but once you’ve met Dokuro, it’s hard to think of him any other way. Fearless, unrelenting, and with the power to single-handedly defy the Dark Lord’s minions, Dokuro will let no puzzle stand in his way as he escorts his beloved Princess to safety.

Get ready for some bone-chilling excitement when Dokuro hits PlayStation Store this October.

Glad you said something, I trashed that email thinking it was an ad. Might as well take it for a spin.

PlayStation Mobile launch and pricing details:
Hello again, PlayStation fans! Today I’m happy to share some big news on the mobile games front that we revealed late Tuesday night at the Tokyo Game Show. PlayStation Mobile (PSM) is coming to a number of PlayStation-Certified devices and PlayStation Vita on October 3rd!

You might be asking yourself, what is PlayStation Mobile, exactly? Allow me to explain: PlayStation Mobile is a brand new platform for tablets and smartphones that offers PlayStation-like experiences on a number of different mobile devices. When PlayStation Mobile launches on October 3rd, we will have around 30 titles available from a range of developers, including games from indie devs as well as our own Sony Computer Entertainment World Wide Studios.

PlayStation Mobile game prices will range from around $2 to $20 and be available in a variety of popular genres, including Adventure, Action, Puzzle, Sports, and Simulation. PlayStation Mobile will also offer an easy-to-navigate storefront to check out and download PlayStation Mobile games, making it easy for you to find what you’re looking for quickly. More details to come on where you can start to download PlayStation Mobile games beginning on October 3rd.

We’re also happy to announce that we’re going to begin offering the official version of the PlayStation Mobile SDK this November, which will offer a more streamlined and efficient content development environment. With just $99 for the license agreement fee annually, developers from established game companies, small indie teams, and even one-man shops can easily distribute their content through the PlayStation Store on a commercial basis and market their games to millions of gamers with PlayStation-Certified devices and PlayStation Vita.

We’re excited to offer PlayStation games on the go with PlayStation Mobile. Definitely check out the launch titles yourself and let us know your favorites. Mark your calendars for October 3rd!

I'm confused by this announcement, is this going to be a separate store from PSN targeting mobile devices AND Vita? So as a vita only user, I would have to go through two different storefronts to look for all available games?

Interesting.
C'mon Sony.
I need folders or something.
Treat each page like a folder. Is there still a cap on the number of pages you can do?
C'mon Sony.

^ THIS!

Also, when browsing the things I've purchased on PSN, STOP SHOWING ME STUFF I CAN'T DOWNLOAD like my PS3 games, themes, etc. I also want to be able to sort by content type (Vita games, PSP games, PS1 games, Minis) so I can quickly find the game I'm looking for.

The current PSN UI for finding purchased content is beyond stupid and shows a massive laziness and disregard for the user experience. Obviously nobody at Sony working on this stuff actually uses any of it themselves.
Treat each page like a folder. Is there still a cap on the number of pages you can do?
Yes, 100 items (= 10 pages). Relatively easy to fill up with Mini's and shortcuts for card-based games, especially if you have a 32GB card. Swiping up and down several times is far less efficient than the 2 or 3 taps you'd need if you had folders.

And re-organizing the icons? Don't even get me started on how much that sucks.

What the hell happened to the Silent Hill co-op beat em up that was coming out? The fact that one one is saying anything at all about it, the delay, and the current track record for Silent Hill games makes it seem like a disaster waiting to happen. Which is a shame, because I thought this could have worked in its own way on Vita.

So I don't know if I'm losing my hearing but does anyone think the volume level on the Vita is low? I've tried some headphones and ear buds and it seems like I need to have the volume near max to get satisfactory volume. I noticed something similar with the 3DS XL.

umm
I have no problem with it.

I play on 75% ~ 80% volume normally

and i believe vita's speaker and sound system is at least 130% louder than psp's

Did you turn on AVLS in the settings? That limits the volume with headphones.

I agree with the speakers sounding low. My PSP 1000 is louder.
