Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
If I buy Chronicles, I get everything in Complete, plus the expansions Heir to the Throne & Divine Wind for $7.50. However, according to at least one message on the EU boards on Steam, the two additional games (Heir to the Throne & Divine Wind) are actually stand-alone games, but Steam treats them as if they were DLC. That means, instead of being able to launch EU:C or HttT or DW individually, (as I would be able to do if I bought the games from almost every other store out there) I would be forced to launch Divine Wind (since that’s the latest) and play that. Supposedly, it would be impossible for me to play either of the two games before DW if I buy Chronicles. Is this correct?
I don't have them myself, but from what I understand they're both expansions, and DW is simply the latest one, so when you buy Chronicles, Steam automatically updates to the latest version (being DW) and you can't make it do otherwise. You should still have all the HttT features though. The reason why some people see not being able to get rid of DW as a problem is because a lot of mods don't work with it, plus I'm hearing a lot of hardcore players complaining about some of the new changes.
Just an FYI about Anomaly: The demo is NOT just the first 6 missions of the game. I was playing just now and Mission #4 was new. Looks like they pulled a few out of the campaign, turned down the difficulty a notch, and made that the demo.
I saw your post about that and I was taken aback, 6 missions in the demo? Are you sure? There are only like 14 missions in the game, so that's like putting half the game in the demo, although granted some missions are longer than others.
I’m considering picking up Europa Universalis while it’s still 75% off on Steam. Problem is, I’m uncertain as to what version to buy.

So What’s the deal? Are EU:C & HttT & DW distinctly different games? Or are the latter two entries actually DLC for EU:C? Should I do as one poster suggested and buy the games from another site besides Steam when they go on sale?
HttT & DW are cumulative (?) expansions to EU3:Complete. What that basically means is that in order to play DW, you have to have EU3:Complete AND HttT. (This was the case for every EU3 expansion. Each one required the the previous ones.)

And, IIRC, you can select which expansion to play from within the Steam client or maybe it's from within the game itself (but I don't have the game installed right now so I can't check to verify if this is true; so don't quote me on it.)

This is the third time that this game has been on sale in the last month (2x @ Steam, everywhere else last week), so I'm sure we'll see it near this price again; but if you buy EU3:Chronicles ($7.49) before Midweek Madness ends today you'll save $1.23 over buying it a piece at a time when on sale again for 75% off.

Being a "completist" (and a fool with my money) I'd say go with Chronicles as it's about the same price as a meal at McDonalds. But if money is tight then Complete should give you many, many months of play time.

UPDATE: If you buy Chronicles you might also want to consider grabbing both sprite packs for $0.49 each. Then you'll have it ALL!
I encourage anyone with even a passing interest in Machinarium to go buy Humble Indie Bundle #3 RIGHT NOW! (http://www.humblebundle.com)
No interest in those other games, so I saved $2.50 and just bought it separate. Would have missed the deal if not for SD, too. CAG is slipping.

Could have had it for a penny via HB#3 if not spending money is your thing...

Doh! (My mistake. Machinarium is in HB#2, NOT HB#3!)

You saved 2.50 by paying more

Brilliant
Jesus if that $39 price includes Oblivion, Fallout, Brink, Quake and Doom packs, this will be a hell of a sale.
They had a similar sale last year too, I hesitated too long. I do believe the price was right around $70. Then I myself also pieced together parts of it during the xmas sale (doom, quake) and more recently Fallout during the summer sale.
You saved 2.50 by paying more

It makes sense to me. You have to pay more than the average to get Machinarium. Which (as of right now) is $5.24. So he did save some money by getting it from Steam at $2.50.

I just saw Skyrim put up onto the coming soon list for 59.99$, but refreshed and it was gone.
59.99$ UHG. But something strange is about. Bethesda! sale here I come. f'ing 60$ pricepoint.
What i wouldnt give for a bethesda complete pack with skyrim for 60..........
How about a couple of years for the price to drop?
I finally got the Humble Bundle (paid a penny for it since I'm broke)
lol at the tags
so much for Master Race

Quake 4 is now in the pack, though it isn't on sale individually. I'm hopeful now for a real sale on Wolfenstein.

Amazing price on QuakeCon pack for what you get. Too bad I have too many of those whether on Steam or physical form to justify buying it. I'd like to play through Doom 3 again (at least through the part on Mars) but I keep blowing it off during the sales.
lolwut? it's posted on the previous page.
I don't usually read this thread, though. We used to have individual threads when high profile games were on sale like that or at least the title of this thread was edited.

Yeah, I don't get the confusion either lol.

Agreed. If I didn't already get Fallout 3 and Oblivion just last month, this would have been an instant buy. I'll probably still consider it by the end of the day though.

While I know that it belongs to Activision, I still find it sad that id Superpack owners don't retroactively get Quake 4 or anything like that. :( It sucks having what I considered the complete experience, only to see Quake 4 now over to the side waving at me and apparently needing to be bought. ><

Yeah. Owning the id pack, Fallout 3, Fallout NV, and Oblivion pretty much means I can't justify buying the QuakeCon pack. =(

Hold off on getting New Vegas.

Just started up TF2 and got a Pip Boy for the Engineer, and the only Fallout stuff I own is NV and the first two content packs.

Since none of the store pages mention getting a TF2 item from buying it, I'm willing to bet NV will be one of the daily sales.

If you can find someone who has pre-purchased both Rage and Skyrim you can get the pack for $39. Which is even more tempting, but still hard for me since the only big titles I'd be getting are Quake 4 and Fallout New Vegas, along with maybe a dozen older games.

Yeah for someone who just bought both the Quake and Doom packs separately over the summer sale, it leaves a sour taste. Oh well, I don't think I lost that much money over 29.99$. Still I would have really liked to have Quake 4. Oh well, it'll go daily someday for cheap. LoL, and I bought Morrowind recently for 20$, should have waited but I couldn't!.

I don't WANT! Skyrim and Rage to be 60$. Why cant they be 50$. I wish high profile were still 50$.

Hoping there will be something for me this sale.

Public apology to Jodou for my incorrect statement quoted above. He did indeed get the cheaper deal by picking up Machinarium by itself on Steam. Sorry!

(Now back to mulling over whether or not I really need the Doom & Quake pack.)
That Quakecon pack is tempting.
No kidding - I already have 17 of the 31 games in the pack, but getting the rest of it + pre-ordering Rage & Skyrim is tempting.

Same here, I'm sure I would enjoy these games but they are just too huge and I have too many games to play here. I'll continue to pass on these until my backlog goes down somewhat.
