Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
I'm glad there's been nothing as part of the daily deals to interest me since the Steam summer sale.
Same here. Gives me time to chip away at the backlog and to save some money. Even though I did just spent $15ish on games this past week (humble bundle, civ5 deal, etc).

Did you not buy half a year's supply of games then? I know I sure did.
Woo Hoo. PC just upgraded. Now I can my Steam all my games again (and any new game) and not just the Beat Hazard because that runs on anything.

I just need to download everything on a 125 kb/sec connection .

Also would love to hear impressions for EYE. Looks interesting.
Congrats bro! Add me on Steam and let's play with eachother.
Thinking about picking up Vampire the masquerade for $5 is it worth getting?
Prepare your anus. For real though. Buy it. Go back a few pages and see everyone get geek boners over this deal.
Thinking about picking up Vampire the masquerade for $5 is it worth getting?
My view is a game that's discussed like this one is is worth a shot at 5 dollars and as a worst case scenario is a learning experience.

Bob Came In Pieces is the deal today (50% off) $9.99 $4.99

Metacritic Score 73

It's a pretty decent action/puzzle game. I think it's worth the price, but it's been $2.00 and $2.50 at various times in the past.
man the daily deals have been some poo lately..
Well, that's like, your opinion man. I thought the Capsized and Shattered Horizon (if you got in on a 4-pack) deals were decent enough.

Capsized is a great little game, but the mouse movement seems extraordinarily sluggish. Nothing else seems slow, just the mouse. There doesn't seem to be any in-game options to adjust mouse sensitivity either.
I would also be in for an E.Y.E. 4 pack ... so PM me or point me towards a group of 3 if you guys are interested.
I have 1 slot open for that game pm me.
Portal 1 is 5 hours or less, and it provides solid backstory for the second one. I'd finish it before starting the second.
/agree (having finished both)

@HeSaveDave
Many of the jokes in Portal 2 refer to the first one, so you'll probably be lost. Finish the first, then go to the second. Need some help with the puzzles? I'll be glad to help you.

I would suggest finishing the original Portal and then waiting until the next day to start the second. Let it sink in first.
Portal 1 is 5 hours or less, and it provides solid backstory for the second one. I'd finish it before starting the second.
More like 2 hours. People tend to not remember well how short it actually was.

Guys, I'm new to steam. Sometimes I see that games that I haven't downloaded pop up on my library ready to be installed. Question is, do I get charged after I install them or what the deal is?

Right now there's game called steel storm that I've never seen on my library.
I finished Portal 2 in a little over six hours. They're both roughly the same playtime, TBH.
Portal 2 is at LEAST twice as long as Portal, and that's being generous to the original. After you've played it a couple times you can blow through Portal in well under two hours.
More like 2 hours. People tend to not remember well how short it actually was.
I was taking into account first time playing and taking your good old time to get through it.

Steel Storm was added to HIB3. If it's in your library, you can download it without charge.

You're only charged when you first buy the game. After that you are never, ever charged for reinstalling your game.

Man, how evil would it be if Steam just had all its games listed in your library, and if you clicked "Install" or "Play", it charged you via your stored payment info?

I've always eyed Amazon's 1-click purchase button the same way one regards a venomous serpent.
I have two EVE spots open. PM me if you're interested.
Man im really happy/surprised that there is this much interest in E.Y.E we need to get a group started so we can get in on some co-op action!

Portal, about 4-5 hours the first time through. Portal 2 Single-player, about 10-12 hours.

It's not a race, folks... take your time. The beauty of the game is in the little details, not just the puzzles themselves.

Welcome to the club -- isn't it great?

Sometimes I see that games that I haven't downloaded pop up on my library ready to be installed. Question is, do I get charged after I install them or what the deal is?

Your library is a list of games you own, so you will not be charged for installing or playing games in it.

There are two reasons a game you didn't buy will appear in your library:

- It's part of a weekend trial. When this happens, the game appears in everyone's library just for the weekend (unless you buy the game at the end of the trial). Usually this will say " - x Days Left" after the title.

- It's a game that came as part of a pack. For instance, least year Team Fortress 2 Beta appeared in the libraries for everyone who bought the retail for Team Fortress 2 (or the Orange Box.) Humble Indie Bundles have often added games partway through. Don't worry about installing them -- they came with something you already purchased.

Right now there's game called steel storm that I've never seen on my library.

Sounds like you bought the Humble Indie Bundle #3. They just added Steel Storm to the bundle, so it appeared in your library automatically.

I very upset that i didnt look at steam all week end and missed the sale on Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

Naval Warfare looks like fun! I'm in! Anyone wanna co-op it soon?

I very upset that i didnt look at steam all week end and missed the sale on Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

Hey man, you can subscribe to Steam's Twitter and set it up to text message you. It will test you every day about the sales.

New game called Pirates of Black Cove or something like that. I was excited, but I couldn't even handle playing the demo for very long. Seems like some cool ideas but under-cooked and buggy. :( Anyone else try it?
Naval Warfare is called Aqua on XBLA. You can download the demo there.

And the Metacritic page (Score 57) - Naval Warfare
oh wow bummer. did not realize there was no online co-op. i saw the multiplayer symbol on steam and just assumed that there was online multiplayer in addition to local co-op.

oh well at least it was only 10$ i threw away.

I can highly recommend Anomaly Warzone Earth, found it a refreshing take on tower defense (or the exact reverse of tower defense as it were). It is highly polished, the graphics are nice and the GUI is very nice looking and well laid out that makes the game a joy to play.

I played the demo to Anomaly Warzone Earth a moment ago and was totally blown away at the incredible visual and sound design. There's no sacrificing visual clarity for eye candy here; it's a beautiful balance. To mirror TestType's comment, I also found the GUI very nice looking and clear. From what I've played so far, the controls are really nice, too; snappy and quick response.

Now, pardon me while I click on... Purchase ;)
