Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 9/23

Amazon
 • Amazon - Preorders

 • Amazon - Current Deals

GamersGate

Greenman Gaming

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

MP3 got the shooting right generally but it fumbled with an awful story and cutscenes destroyed the pacing, unskippable ruining the replay.

Rockstar doesn't write half as good as they think they do.

Ordered parts for my new pc build today. Hard drive failed, so why not build a whole new pc, right? Of course the hdd fails and I decide this after all the deals from black friday/cyber monday.

I did the same thing almost... This PC wont play this game on EXTREME 60fps. guess im going to build a whole new PC.
You have time to argue about the thread title though. With all the time you spend complaining you could be updating OP's that nobody reads.
I wasn't arguing, I was asking a legitimate question, then responding to being lynched. The responses took 30 seconds so your point is moot. Seriously, if there are no deals posted, why is this in the deals thread? Is it just cuz someone stopped updating it, and conversations continued? No need to be so hostile, for real.
I'm telling you if you can look at one website you can look at another. You say it as if it takes more than 10-30 seconds of your time (which I suspect isn't that valuable).

Golden. In a fraction of the time this guy has already spent here arguing he could have found out the deals.
No, I couldn't have. I can't visit Steam site, or run the App from the network I look at CAG from. Thanks for trying to be a punk, though.

The cutscenes were videos hiding the loading. I believe they became skippable when the load finished, at least on the PS3 where I played it. I may be remembering it wrong though.

A lot of people are very happy with this thread. You aren't one of them. Instead of trying to impose your will on a bunch of people who are content with the status quo, why don't you create a thread that meets your needs?

You made your point the first time, and it was soundly rejected. Your continued tantrum is verging on trolling.
I responded to each post as I scrolled down & read them. I have a right to respond to the juvenile mob mentality to attack someone for raising a legit issue. Sorry if you are part of the 'mob' and don't want to answer the question, which is apparent by ignoring the attacks on me for asking a question. I didn't respond to every post in a single post because I hadn't seen them yet & they needed seperate responses, even though they were all in the same hollow mindset to 'attack'.

If you think there are no deals in this thread and it doesn't belong in this forum the proper procedure is to use the "Report this post" button in the OP to make mods aware. Not to sit here and complain endlessly.

So if you really feel this doesn't belong in this forum, please report it. After the mods are done laughing and the thread remains you will have a definitive answer and can move on.

For Christ's sake, your question was answered. The op is a wiki. It get's updated by the CAG community. Sometimes it get updated frequently, other times it can go a good while between updates.

We do not avoid updating it simply to spite you. If it hasn't been updated in a while, it's simply because nobody (including you) has taken the time to update the OP.

Wouldn't the apostrophe show ownership? It wasn't meant to be "it is". If I would have worded it "this thread's purpose", would that be better?

I asked a question, and when I came to see the answer (hoping to see, "it will be updated soon," or something similar), I was attacked. Therefore, I proceeded to defend my reason for asking the question. I have no intention of ruining a thread that others enjoy. I'm not that type of person, but i also don't sit back & take fire just because people were butthurt over a legit question. I would have left it alone, but why not ask the others why they feel the need to attack someone for making a query? Because it's fun to point & laugh? To be the room full of jocks picking on a lone nerd?

5. Do Not Use an Apostrophe with Possessive Pronouns

Because possessive pronouns already show ownership, it's* not necessary to add an apostrophe:

 • yours
 • his
 • hers
 • its*
 • ours
 • theirs
EDIT: Also, please learn to use multi-quoting rather than posting consecutively, thanks.

I'm not trying to insult you, but are you aware of what you posted?

You asked when was the last time the OP was updated. An answer you can find on your own by checking the Wiki History in the OP.

Then you asked why this was even in the deals section and went on to complain.

These aren't legit questions, just abrasive complaints.

You quote my post above that but avoid my question. You then proceed to complain about this thread ignoring a question of yours.

Not in English. it's = contraction of "it is"; its = possessive form of it
This is one of the gotchas that most people know. Here are some more common ones to be aware of.
The cutscenes were videos hiding the loading. I believe they became skippable when the load finished, at least on the PS3 where I played it. I may be remembering it wrong though.
Yeah but I could load the SAME checkpoints from a cold metal boot of my system from start to gameplay faster than it took these cutscenes to "load" the checkpoint. That "loading" was a crock of shit.

Backlog. I've been successfully using my backlog to as a reason against upgrading my video card. I figure I'll be able to hold fast another year or two (at which point my PC will be 5-6 years old). I have to thank 360 and PS3 for holding back progress. =D

There is this button in the lower-right of each post that's called something like "add to multi-quote."

If you press that button it remembers you want quote the post, then when you hit reply it will quote all of the posts you indicated in your reply field.

It's really nifty for, you know, not taking up an entire page in a thread responding to posts from a dozen pages back.

Please utilize this.

It's people like twztid13 that make me interested in psychology. It's as if he now actually believes that his original post was a "legitimate question," despite the fact that at the time of writing it he was clearly aware that it was a rhetorical question asserting that the thread annoyed him. It's like asking someone why he/she is stupid, and then claiming it was a legitimate question and an answer was somehow expected.

I imagine the shift was subconscious, judging by the fact that he didn't have the foresight to edit the original.

Edit: I don't even think it's unreasonable to dislike the style of the thread, I just find retroactively altering the intention bizarre.

I've been mentally adding "Update OP page more often" to the top of my list of things to do, but now it is going back to the bottom. Yay spite! :bouncy:
Endless Space is #48 on the Top Sellers list. I guess I'm not the only one who balked at that price.
It's had fairly few price drops since launch, from what I've seen. Until last week, of course, when surely all of us got it from Gamersgate for ~$7.50. ;)

I insult you because I think you're a douche.

Also I think I may have fucked up the OP trying to add the daily deal.

Pfft, the Ignore button isn't enough, because people keep quoting him which makes it appear in their post. Can we get a Mod to restore order please. What is it with there having to be at least one $@%&! that tries to make these threads about them. There's always some new guy in the Amazon thread bashing everything til he gets banned (then comes back). Just kick this guy and be done with it, until he inevitably returns under a new account. But, the Ignore button isn't enough, you either have to truly ignore him (stop replying to him) or ban him. One or the other. He's shown he just wants the conversation to continue, and therefor simply wants the attention. Be done with this.
I think this is probably the cheapest it will get on Steam.

FWIW, I got:

Trainz 2012
Trainz 2010
Trainz 2009
Trains Classics 3

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006C5VS8A/ref=ox_ya_os_product

for $12.49 from Amazon over the summer.
Good point! I think the Trainz 12 plus earlier versions didn't quite grab me. (Also if it has DLC I prefer it on Steam.) I think I'll be passing on the daily. I want it, but I'm not sure I $10 want it. Maybe Tony will toss it in a bundle with a wargame, a hidden objects game, and a bikini waxing simulator. ^_~
What would a good analogy be? Or is there another company who has done something similar?
I'm trying to wrap my head around it, but I see no logical reason for them to purposely "cheapen" or dilute their IP. All THQ has is those IPs. That is basically what their company is.

Creditors aren't going to keep a sinking ship running simply because there is no value left in the games they do have. The only way for THQ to produce any more value in their company would be to make more games but since the games they make cost a ton of money creditors aren't likely to sink more money into them for a gamble.

THQ is also a publicly traded company, so them being able to drain the value of their company on purpose seems like it could open them up to some liability with investors.

The only logical view I see is the following:

1. The non-BTA games they are giving away have reached their peak value. THQ is just giving away copies of games that aren't really selling much anyways so they don't lose much there.

2. The BTA game is a gateway to a ton of DLC.

So you couple a bunch of games most people already have or wouldn't buy alone with a bigger title to give people a bigger sense of value and then you hope all these new purchases drive money into the DLC for your game. It's just one step removed from freemium.

Sure, Humble isn't a cure all to their financial woes, but even if they only make 2-3 million with this that's still a little more cash to try to hold them over long enough to release some more games and turn things around.
I haven't familiarized myself with THQ's exact situation. But in general, a closer analogy would be: Suppose I owned a failing Premium Sprits (Booze) store that has a way too much inventory, but I couldn't make rent this month. Now I hear rumors that this crafty Fox guy is planning on taking over my business by paying me a teeny bit of money and promising everyone I owe money to that they'll get their monthly payments. I know he can stand to make a good profit since he's getting my inventory for much less than I paid for it (or it can even be bought for). The thought of this makes me mad, so I decide to throw a big party so most of the inventory gets consumed. Now Fox won't be able to make a ton of money on my misfortune. Without him as incentivized to take over, maybe I find a new business partner (Fox or others) to shoulder some of the expense and get the business back in order.

Real Example: ARM (Acorn Risc Machines, their microprocessor designs are in all the smartphones and tablets) and DEC (Digital Equpment Corp, produced the then fastest and best performance/$ Alpha microprocessor). In the mid-90s ARM (whos processors where then in most GSM phones and Apple's Newton MP100-130) was having trouble pushing their processing power to a higher performance so they asked DEC to design a new generation of ARM processor, StrongARM (power the Newton MP2000/2100 as well as the iPaQ). At the time both DEC and ARM were at risk of a hostile takeover, so they made an agreement that if either one got taken over, the other would wind up with exclusive rights to the StrongARM Intellectual Property. This made ARM and DEC less attractive hostile takeover targets. This is a form a poison pill.

I'd like to bring the topic of conversation back to what I found when I woke up this morning:
My main concern is I've seen a screen shot of people attacking others with huge purple dildos and I need to know if that is in the standard edition or what DLC I need to get to enjoy that sort of gaming.
I'm so proud.

But what about the people who denounce the people who feed the troll? Or the people who pose questions to the people who denounce the people who feed the troll?

If a troll falls over the in woods, stubs its toe, spills its cup of tea, drops its crumpets and spoils its morning newspaper, does it still whine?

This is all very deep for a Friday morning.

Backlog. I've been successfully using my backlog to as a reason against upgrading my video card. I figure I'll be able to hold fast another year or two (at which point my PC will be 5-6 years old). I have to thank 360 and PS3 for holding back progress. =D
I've been playing older games since I had to RMA my 460GTX, and it turns out I'm getting a 560GTX Ti back. Hooray for extending the life of my video card. However I have been picking up deals on parts for my new computer, I have 2/5 parts I need to replace purchased (PSU and Case). E8400 works but doesn't quite cut it anymore.

It simply regenerates the damage and keeps heading towards the rift.

So, really...are all these simulators at all fun? Farming, Trains, politics?! I've seen these around awhile now and always been like "Seriously?".

Unless it's a frost troll, then it is weak to fire.

I get them confused as well. The elemental ones are Ogres, types of Trolls are Troll, Swamp Troll (poison) and Mountain Troll (WHYWON'TYOUDIE).

Sure, fun to someone.

The train simulators are attractive to train enthusiasts. Both people who like big trains and the scale model people who would love to have the stereotypical HO scale layout that encompasses the entire basement but lack the space/money/time/understanding spouse. They sell a crapton of DLC but you're not expected to buy it all any more than you'd go into a hobby store and buy one of everything.

The farming/road building/street sweeping/septic tank cleaning simulators are popular in Europe (so I've heard) and are easy to modify to other machines/professions because they're all on the same basic platform, use the same collision engine, etc. Turning a tow truck into a truck hauling sewer pipes isn't any big shakes. I can't claim to have any interest myself (although the humorous videos people make always give me 2 seconds of interest; thank God it takes me 3 seconds to find my credit card) but I know we have people here who like 'em. I think, for some, they get the same sense of accomplishment from building virtual roads or farms or airports that others get from building virtual cities in SimCity or virtual nations in Civilization. They aren't looking for conflict in the game, just the chance to see something come together. Why do people spend hours upon hours placing items in their Skyrim/Oblivion house no one will ever see but them?

If you have to ask if there's a lot of people with a potentially unhealthy interest in politics as sport, you need to stop playing games and turn on a TV or open a paper ;)

As a person who owns and purchases simulators I can tell you that the majority are not fun at all in the traditional sense of what a fun game is supposed to be.

A very tiny minority are well made and are fun if you like the subject. Like the Train Simulators tend to be pretty well done. Ship Simulator Extremes is a well done game as well. I even had a bit of fun with Airport Control Simulator, though that's a sim in title only.

The rest are just big awful, train wrecks. I enjoy them in the same way I enjoy watching bad movies. Meaning, I wade through a ton of them, most are just plain awful, but a select few hit that "so bad, but so funny/good" area that I feel it is worth it. For example, I was recently playing Road Works Simulator and was entertained by the awful translation and amazed by the dreadful gameplay. I'm on mission 3 and can't bring myself to spend 10 minutes guiding the world's slowest steam roller over a pixelated mess that is supposed to be asphalt to "fix" the road. This was after it took me about 10 minutes during the first mission to figure out how to use the jackhammer since there is no tutorial whatsoever and the game freezes on me when I enter the "Options" menu.

I finally figured out that in addition to holding down the left mouse button for 10 minutes, I had to wildly flick my mouse in either direction to "angle" the jackhammer into the "ideal" jackhammering position, otherwise nothing happened :)
Ok, scratch everything I said. Simulator junkies are just insane
Well, real simulator junkies do try to get enjoyment out of them. If you read the Amazon reviews for some of these things, there are tons of people who truly would love a working, well made Road Works Simulator.

I will say that if these games were well made I would enjoy them. I mean, I love playing games like Sleeping Dogs or GTA for the in world aspects like driving buses, taxis, etc. just as much as I like the various missions.

Problem is these games tend to be lazy cash grabs. I do enjoy the 18 Wheel Sims though.
