Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V7! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

Since the V6 thread, we've decided to leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Summer sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 5/20

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I spent hours getting the HD stuff to work with the original Deus Ex. By the time that I got it all working I was far too tired to actually play the game.

Also, random steam key:

Miner Wars Arena: 920WV-2CLW0-BWCPT
i loved the game on the 360. one of my favorites.

by the way... is this the lowest we've seen for max payne 3? :O
I mean the original, not Human Revolution. Does it work at all on never systems? I know a lot of games have trouble.

Worked fine for me on Windows 7. HD textures/widescreen are easy to install too, not sure why it took the other guy hours to install. Just follow this http://kentie.net/article/dxguide/

The game holds up well for the most part, the shooting accuracy being based on stats can be kind of annoying at the beginning though. It does go on sale regularly though if you don't want to decide about getting it now.

I've since played enough of it non-modded to know that I can't be bothered spending hours modding it again.

Ok, I guess I'll wait then, as I've got enough games to get to that it would probably get lost in the backlog. Maybe the Steam Summer sale will have a good price:)

I bought Dungeon Hearts at release. Good game, but if you're getting it from the Royale, swallow your pride and start the game on Easy. The game is pretty tough and hectic. You can always change later after you get the hange of things.

It was more of a "getting the HD texture packs to work nicely is a pain in the rear" post than a "I haven't played it" one. For some people (who wouldn't even consider playing old games without the texture packs), that could be the difference between it being worth buying and not worth buying.

Most of it was screwing around with config files getting stuff to load in the correct order, perform OK, and not blind me with bloom.

Fine with this talk of the old Deus Ex I guess I'll buy it - I hate you all so much... anyone know if that's indeed a Steam Key? The SE store is never honest about these things.

Edit: It's not on the 'activates on Steam' list from reddit.

I hate the steam/maybe not uncertainty in some of this stuff... See TrackMania Canyon a few days ago on GG.

DX goes on sale for $2.50 every steam sale, I'd suggest waiting for that or another clearly Steam-marked sale.

Yeah I'm not really a stickler for platforms normally but my current gaming life/setup/situation is pretty much Steam or DRM-free from Steam - which I guess it could be DRM launched from Steam but then I won't have a pretty picture. Honestly I'd probably never play the game my backlog is literally over 450 games across multiple platforms.

Original Deus Ex is one of the best games of all time (before they started calling games like Bioshock Infinite the best game of all time). You won't regret it. While there isn't a huge amount of choice and consequence there are a variety of ways to tackle the levels thanks to expansive level design. Also a lot of neat little iterations in dialogue depending on your actions and what you say.

ORC is wretched. Don't do it.

The whole MP series is worth it. 3's DLC is all multiplayer stuff though. Somewhere they buried a coop mode.

Max Payne 3's shooting is top notch but it is plagued by so many unskippable cutscenes and a complete lack of a real survival/arcade level or modes that it has no replay value just because of the huge downtime.

Yes it has an "arcade" mode and time attack where you play story missions for score and time. But the in mission cutscenes are all still there.

Shame about that Indie Royale. I already own everything I would want from it.

Deus Ex 1 is really overrated in my opinion but it is still quite a good game and absolutely worth playing. Whether SE offers it on Steam or not is an open question. Don't think they have their own DDL client. They are full throated in support of Steam in their modern games though.

Take the GEP Gun when given a choice. Most important decision of the game.

Note, even though MP1 and MP2 were on consoles, the PC versions don't have inherent Controller support. That's big for some people (like me). Again that has to do with my setup - I love KB/Mouse as much as anyone but my current setup is forced to be pretty much completely controller reliant - and as good as joy2key, and xpadder, and the like are - they're also kind of a PITA.

Also SE does have their own DLL client, but it might be single-game based. You have to use it for FFVII I believe. I am glad for their Steam stance though.

Edit: Reddit confirms Deus Ex: GOTY is SecuRom non-Steam. Looks like the Steam version only uses Steam DRM and NOT SecuRom - that's reason enough to go with the Steam version.

Pfft...

I have and will always call Legend of Legaia for the PSX the best game of all time.

Followed by No One Lives Forever, or as I call it, Deus Sexy - because that bald guy with the beard is a stud.
Gotta be honest, haven't even heard of those games. Although the last console I owned was the original Playstation.
Legend of Legaia was a ps1 game and also sort of a joke, but really, you haven't heard of No One Lives Forever?
Chest* is clearly the best game of all time. It's just that only pr0n marketing drones profit from it.

Fixed that for you.

It is like sacrilege not to at least know of No One Lives Forever. Amazing games, too bad the IP is in limbo as no one seems to know who owns it :(

Just about any PC game that isn't on a digital distribution platform will be largely unknown to/ignored by the majority of the CAGs in this thread.

Good lord that is one terrific series. For some reason I enjoy NOLF 2 just a little bit more, but boy are they ever entertaining.

New homepage.

I can't wait to read the interview with the game's writer! If only so I can finally get some clarification on how old Noa is intended to be and where he got the inspiration for Hari the psychic prophet infant.

All this NOLF 2 talk, it makes me wanna toss a banana peel to battle some assassins with, while in the midst of a whirlwind of a tornado.
Does Deus Ex hold up at all? I've never played it, and have Human Revolution in my backlog, but $2.50 isn't a bad price(?).
Which Deus Ex?

IMHO...

Deus Ex (the original) is a masterpiece and one of the best games ever made (it's in my personal Top 10).

Deus Ex: Invisible War (AKA Deus Ex 2) is good, but nowhere as amazing as Deus Ex 1.
Deus Ex: Invisible War is way more steamlined - skill leveling system is gone; Inventory is not grid-based anymore and is clunky; and the streamlined unified ammo is awful. Back when IW first came out, it technically performed poorly on new rigs out there - of course, this isn't a problem on today's hardware and software.

If you play Deus Ex 1 and IW, you might want David Bashai's Widescreen Mod - to bump high-res's and whatnot.
I recommend you go get some of Kentie's Mods for Deus Ex 1, if you want DX10 support and to fix the sound issues Deus Ex 1 w/ sound going chopping, sound cutting out completely & sounds not even playing.

Deus Ex: HR is fantastic - and is exactly how Invisible War should've been, honestly.
The Missing Link DLC is excellent - especially for a DLC. Also, Boss Fights were much better handled in Missing Link, as opposed to the original Deus Ex + Deus Ex: HR.

Well, I did enjoy quite a bit of Archon back on the ole Commodore.

NOLF love. For all the indie games you losers play, it is refreshing to note that SOME of you have really outstanding taste.

Every time I dig out FEAR 1 and hear those NOLF clicks when the game loads I swoon.

Man the Bacalov Corrector was a real man's gun.

And yes, NOLF is better than DX.
Well, I did enjoy quite a bit of Archon back on the ole Commodore.
Archon Classic on Steam baby.

You know, I loved NOLF series...
...but never played Contract JACK - even though I actually do have Jack on disc from Retail.
So, ummm - how was it?

It was just one of those numerous games in my backlog that I never got to.

It's an interesting prequel to the NOLF 2 story, except it didn't have Cate Archer's charm since you play a dude named John Jack now. It is also mostly all shooting, unlike the varied adventure/shooting/puzzle/stealth gameplay of the others. If I recall correctly, it was terribly short in comparison to the NOLF games.

I enjoyed it for what it was, but it was a letdown as a NOLF universe game.

Solid Nuuvem build a bundle, again. 3 games for $15 ($30 Brazilian Real = $15 USD).

Steam:
Dead Island
Deus Ex HR
Dungeonland
Dungeon Siege
Just Cause 2
Mount & Blade Collection (M&B, Warband, and Fire & Sword)
Tropico 4 Gold
Starvoid (lol)

Uplay:
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood Deluxe
Rayman Origins
Splinter Cell Conviction

Origin:
Kingdoms of Amalur
Syndicate

DRM free:
Caeser IV
Gemini Wars

Unfortunately I have pretty much everything I want out of this one. Although Rayman, Dungeon Siege 3, and Syndicate doesn't sound like a bad bundle...

Just a note, though, I'd avoid the DRM free ones. I've had bad luck with Nuuvem's downloader.

About 2 months ago I dug out NOLF, installed it, and left it in the disc tray, where it still is.

It might stay there for all eternity.

Because I can't think of another decent reason to use that disc tray.

Cup holder?

For what it's worth, JACK did still have a slightly amusing tone that few games seem to hit nowadays, mostly missing the middle ground by a mile. It even was less random silly than NOLF2. But gameplay was just NOLF2's watery shooting writ large.

Just tried out Dungeon Hearts from the Indie Royale bundle. I am sorely disappointed. I dig match 3 games and thought this could be an entertaining framing for the mechanic, and it may well be, but not as a PC game. This is a tablet game through and through, fighting to try and grab and drag pieces around the board with a mouse quickly becomes a tedious and frustrating effort. My first run at normal difficulty ran about 25 minutes and I think that was enough for me. There's nothing worse in any game than seeing and knowing exactly what you want to do, but being unable to perform that action due to control. Maybe I'm just bad with a mouse, but this is the rare occasion where I think a touch screen is the only real way to play this game.

Ah well, picked up the Indie Royale mostly for Back to the Future anyways and at least now I won't waste my money on this game during the summer sale.

Are there any good multiplayer only game (preferably less than $20) I can download? The only game I got is CS: GO and would like to broad it up. How often do games go on sale?? Is Insurgency good? How about Max Payne 3 multiplayer?
