Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V7! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

Since the V6 thread, we've decided to leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Summer sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 5/20

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Well I wouldn't consider you among "most people";) I just can't see the point in buying something for so much if you are going to replace it so quickly, but then again I wouldn't recommend a boat as a good use of money either. I'd say I agree with you on the money were you appreciate it bit, but that's still a lot of money (or maybe I'm just broke:lol:). Not owning a TV is pretty crazing though. I mean, what if you have friends over?

On the topic of netbooks, for the most part I think they are pretty worthless. Chromebooks are what I think netbooks should have been, made for the internet and only the internet. Would be interested to know what any of you think of them if you've had a chance to try one.
What would I need a TV for when I have friends over? (I really hate "socially" watching TV/movies, I'd rather be doing something.)

Re: Chromebooks... install linux... (netbook redux)... unless maybe all you do can be done in-browser (not me).
I was able to play Dota in class on my netbook so I don't think they're worthless :D
so you're the "feeder" that I was in my match ;)

Seriously though, unless you're using a mouse w/ your netbook (and have the world smallest adult hands to match the small keyboard on a netbook), I wonder how well you can play the game.
I feel like most consumer grade laptops are intentionally designed to be near impossible to poke around in.
This! (and I can replace a MBP hard drive blindfolded in 20 minutes.)

My favorite keyboard ever was on a (Japan-only) Sharp Mebius, an 88% keyboard, perfect for my hands (though a brawny American gent probably wouldn't be able to mash only one key)... I didn't even have to switch hand positions then thumbing the trackpad. (I'm highly partial to the DualShock 3 controller for the same reason.)

Well, multiplayer games I would expect (Rock Band and Mario Kart all night:cool:). I don't like watching movies social either, but couch co op is still my favorite (not really as common for PC games it seems, except for stuff like You Don't Know Jack).

I thought that chromebooks would have to small an HDD to install and use linux well on. I just find the idea of a chromebook very interesting. I'd never use one personally, but it does seem like the perfect PC for those that only ever use the browser (which I guess is the whole idea).

Have you ever used a Clevo? I was never a keyboard snob (or an anything snob, really), but since I've used this keyboard, nothing else has felt... right.

No I haven't. I've been a keyboard snob since bubble membrane keyboards started rolling on the scene in the 90s. I stuck with mechnical keyboards (Apple & no-name-ish, equivalent of Cherry browns) and later accepted certain scissor keyboards. I've used a friend's Sager though. I hate laptops with numpads... I prefer my keyboard and trackpad screen-centered. Even my scissor keyboards lack numpads (extra distance they impost causes me RSI problems unless I mouse left handed (I'm ambi, my non-gaming setups are ususally mouse-on-left), but traditional (and often unconfigurable) gaming layouts are very much right-mousing dominant.

I adore the incredibly shallow-action keyboard on my MacBook Air... it's so light and precise (I'm a light-touch typist).
$1500 more, huh? So desktops with current gen GPUs are free now? Damn, hook me up with that bro.

And good headphones sound better and are drastically cheaper than a good surround sound system, lol.

But I know, the hipsters are all about trying to make old ugly things look cool, so I can dig that.
Please avoid other parts of my statements and nitpick variable pricing, then go ahead and write more passive-aggressive bullshit. I love reading your internet tough guy, macho man.

Yeah, keyboards and touchpads are all about preference. I absolutely love how responsive and clean the keyboard on this is, although some people aren't much for the higher resistance on the keys. My last laptop didn't have a numpad though and it pissed me off. Y'know, that one time you need a altpad character.
lol, I didn't reply to your battery comment? Yes, mobile devices require batteries, which sadly, end up running out. Thanks for the reminder though!

And of course you pick a fully loaded, overpriced MSI (a little too flashy and slightly overpriced in my opinion, but still good machines) to "prove your point". Really bro.

And honestly, I was just screwing around with you and laughing at this little tiff. Sorry for getting your panties in a bunch though.
It was more like:

Blade: lol here's a joke post
Idiot: let's argue about this because internet is srs
Blade: okay, battery life, overpriced
Idiot: blah blah blah so it's free sarcasm  passive-aggressive comments?
Blade: lol not compared to this
Pretty obvious who's getting their panties in a bunch over some laptop dissing here. The past few pages are about you going WTF LATPOTPS R GUD NVIDIA DABES!!!! No use playing the "idc soz u mad lulz" card with your whiny passive-aggressivism thrown in.
Oh you didn't just... did you?

Nvidia > AMD (for gaming) /thread. (really not meaning to spark a holy war, or even a discussion, based on my own personal experience, your electrons may vary.)
dis iz wat manstreaum trns thraed n2
Dude, don't mention mainstream and hipster. It's all taboo and stuff now.

Let's get back to discussing how awesome high-end laptops are so we can appease the internet presence. Like, err...so like, my Lenovo right, it has this cool feature where I can unhook the screen because it's all broken and stuff. But it plays games at ALL the FPSes. It's cool, but it costs a lot, and that makes it even cooler. I won't bother to fix it. Price for a new screen is about as much as my custom-ripped, faded skinny jeans, and why should I care about my detachable laptop when I could have eight pairs instead of seven? Logic, folks.

Oh, edits full of more hate, lol. I do think laptops are awesome, true (not that I hate desktops). That doesn't mean I can't bait you into a pointless argument in the process. :)

But continue trying to prove that I'm raging, therefore making you king of the internets. It's amusing.

Congratulations at claiming to be successful at whatever you claim to have initiated with your pithy troll!

A medal for you:

@The End - Idiot just takes the internet too seriously. Look at all the feuds he's had in the past. He needs to get out more.

Wait, didn't you admittedly "initiate" things with your trolling laptop diss? ;)

And thanks for the medal! Well, trophy. Common mistake.

EDIT: Oh boy, now he's gotta defame me. Idiot fought with Motoki and stuff! Rawr.
Jesus Christ! I'd rather watch that Groupies Be Mine 8 video again than read the past few pages of this thread.
You and Me both.

Quick, lets return to normality with a game of bridge*. I'll bring the pot of tea.

* - can we play with just two? Do we need to get more?
Let's cut the Laptop/Desktop debate short right now and come together over the shared understanding that Netbooks were a terrible idea.
My wife has a netbook. She used to bring it with her when she was working as a court interpreter. She tried bringing her tablet but came across a realization: No matter what she was doing, if she was on the tablet people assumed she was playing Angry Birds and if she was on the netbook, people assumed she was researching foreign language dictionaries. In either event, she was actually on Facebook and checking e-mail during her downtime between cases.
Xcom Elite Soldier DLC adds flat top hair style and a lot of fruity looking colors for soldiers armor. Worth it if you want to make that one soldier named after your friend appear super fruity
Sold me.

I went to install Metro 2033 today in anticipation for metro last light coming out tomorrow and a steam message popped out saying recovering previous install file or something along those lines, I just let it do its thing and after 3-5 minutes the game was installed. I thought that was weird since I don't think I had 2033 installed previously, nothing like this has happened with steam before.

Hmm, well something must have happened last night, since mods deleted the whole potpal conversation. I don't understand mods sometimes, but maybe I went to bed before some big argument broke out that I didn't realize. Anyhow, it's always weird to come on and find the last dozen posts or so missing:whistle2:k
Nah, it was just a page or two of desktop vs laptop debate. I think it was a sorta-subtle nudge to keep things more on track.
Then give us a bleedin sale to talk about. ;)

Gross.

There is no track here.

I can find sales myself. I'm here for the discussions and the community.

There was some discussion, and then argument because some people need to grow the hell up. It's a shame the mods came in so heavy-handed with their deletions and got rid of a decent amount of interesting content along with the bickering.

Edit: To stay "on-topic", the new IndieRoyale went live:

Burn Zombie Burn!
Lucius
Plain Sight
Alien Shooter 2
Primal Fears
Droplitz

I think all of those have been bundled or on sale for stupidly cheap except Primal Fears.

Yeah Primal Fears is the main one I want.. but I know it probably sucks. I've played Dead Horde.. so I have my doubts that the dev can make a good game.

It's a shame, really, I loved Dead Nation on PS3 but I don't think any game on PC has done a good job of cloning that type of gameplay.
Another month, another Magicka sale.
Well I for one am grateful. My watch was set incorrectly.

Hitman Absolution is also part of the weekly sale, it seems this game has been on sale on every digital retailer for the past month or so... and the by the way steam's price is $12.49 standard and $15 for professional (amazon has it cheaper $5/$9 pro)

The Book and Unwritten Tales and its prequel Critter Chronicles are both 75% off at $4.99. Not a bad deal if you like adventure games.

Most of the other stuff is meh though as far as I am concerned.
Thanks!
I been testing out Stack Docklet V2 here w/ RocketDock - this is nice. :D
Much better place to put all my games and whatnot - to be able to expand and close these stacked-docklets!
I'm a bit late to the discussion, but I use a program called 7-stacks to help me organize and display my games. It creates a link (which you can pin to your taskbar) to any folder on your computer and displays it in a nice pop-up style. I took all of my games -- from Steam, Origin, other download sites, and even old CD/DVD titles -- and created links to them, then organized the links into folders (and sub-folders) based on genre. Throw in some custom icons (if you want -- I decided to make it look pretty) and voila!

Some pics (right click and "open" them to make them a little bigger):

I made all of the icons -- once you have a template set up in the GIMP, it's very easy to find a box cover online and plop it into the template. I plan on uploading them to deviantArt when I get a chance so that others can use them, too.

Thanks for pointing this out Motoki. I enjoyed Book of Unwritten Tales so will be picking up the prequel.
Is it bad I really wanna try Postal 2, but I cant help but to think GMG will have it 75% off with a bonus 20%? which would only save me 74 cents
You could save 19 more cents over that 74 by splitting a Steam 4-pack today.

so I guess I'm the only one that still doesn't own Magicka one way or another. Seems pointless at this point to get it at this price, when it could always go cheaper or get bundled (IIRC it's been bundled at least once).

Unrelated, but what's with all you guys changing your avatars to semi parodies? First Spoderfox, and now Ashuskatty:lol: It is all becoming very confusing (though mildly amusing all the same)

Seriously thinking about getting the collection Eldredpe linked to. Looks fun and has a decent metacritic score of 82/73. Get all the extras for free at least.
