The internet has such a short memory!

The summer sale has traditionally started at the end of June so that it overlapped with or ended on the July 4th holiday. (Google agrees with my memory of that in 2011, 2010, and 2009.)

In 2012 the Summer Sale began July 12th. There were three weeks of anticipation and speculation about it, here and elsewhere on the internet, where some people got... rowdy.

There also wasn't a meta-game for the first time in a while. Winter 2011 had Coal, Summer 2011 had tickets, and I forget about 2010. Instead they introduced the community votes and flash deals.

You mean this wasn't rowdy enough for you last year?

BTW, I find it hilarious that a screenshot to sell lords of football is this;

or the rope+horseshoe
Rope+Horseshoe I used to get the middle piece off the barn roof. I looked it up and apparently there was a bottle of fuel from a hole near the cow, which made the tree grow so you could tickle the farmer awake.

I just rang the doorbell about twenty times and the piece I needed fell.

it started July 12 last year (if joystiq.com is to be believed). So maybe it's not late, yet?

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/12/steam-summer-sale-is-officially-on/
So I guess we can all just go back to our normal lives for a few days, fantastic!

Free alien themed game, today only at http://www.google.com/
Needs a settings page for the resolution

EDIT: lmao,
give the horse the gas

EDIT 2: Stuff:
Cow - Rope = Gas

Cow + Gas = Big Cow

Horse + Gas = Big Horse -> Drop Ship Part

Rope + Horseshoe -> Use on Ship Part on Roof = Ship Part

Gas + Chicken = Big Chicken

Chicken + Feed = Feather

Gas + Tree = Big Tree to Farmer

Farmer + Feather = Ship Part

So I got some conflicting info about Steam trading cards for FTP games (i.e. TF2)

Is the only way to get cards by spending the $9? Or do you get your normal 5 drops by playing (or idling) and then get another card for every $9 spent?

I was trying to figure out how the cards were so cheap, were people really spending $45 on in game items to get the 5 cards? and somebody said the money for cards was just to get extras on top of the 5 drops

IF you had spent money in the game and had a premium account BEFORE the card beta, you got 5 drops. Everything after that is $9 per drop.

Those big packs only work with co-op games that support that many players.
A few years ago during the Winter sale I hosted some huge group buys, like a 12 pack of Osmos, a 10 pack of Audiosurf, and an 8 pack of Trine. They used to offer these at huge discounts which lowered the cost per person to around $1 or less. But then again, that was before Humble released their first bundle and Steam keys could be gotten for so cheap. They focus so much on community that it would be good for them to bring it back, though.

Ah, yeah, it was November 2010. Shows up in my feedback score. Maybe they're one of those businesses that recycles themes every three years. ;)

Except that initial window where just buying anything in game gave the 5 drops. I think a bunch of extra accounts were created to exploit that and that's why those card markets are supersaturated. Add to that the amount of people already using several accounts to farm item drops and you can see why.

Just to correct, I let TF2 idle while I went grocery shopping, came back and had 2 card drops. So you can get cards the normal way as well as buying items

Yeah, I think that was just an oversight on Valve's part though. They fixed that within a week or so (I know, since I bought into premium later on and didn't get any drops).

Only on non F2P accounts.
Yeah, you must have been premium before the card beta.

OK. Would retail Orange Box make me premium? TBH I've never played the game before (maybe did the tutorial once upon a time) If it didn't come with my retail copy of Portal via Orange Box I wouldn't even have it installed.

Will HL3 have Steam-Cards?
We're not discussing "Half-Life 3," a game whose existence we are neither prepared to confirm nor deny, at this time.

This press conference is strictly to field questions regarding the upcoming Half-Life 2: Blue Shift, a standalone expansion starring everyone's favorite security guard turned revolutionary leader, Barney Calhoun.

Unfortunately, I need to meet Gabe for a knife-throwing sess. Here to handle any additional questions is Half-Life 2: Blue Shift Creative Lead Randy Pitchford.

Take it away, Randy!

I believe he even has some early gameplay footage here for you. Have fun!

Well, I did hear BL2 will have more DLC; and Gearbox will work on new IP for next-gen:

http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/07/09/borderlands-2-has-more-dlc-coming-new-ip-coming-gearbox-boss-says/

wheres my 50% Fist Puncher sale? :(

I'm more concerned about Punch Fister.

It's absolute bullshit that it won't be distributed via Steam just because I didn't submit it.

It's the Kool-Aid Man's porn debut, if y'all were wondering.

Find out how long it would take you to beat your backlog (it isn't extremely accurate but cool still, was made by someone on GAF)

http://steamplaytime.appspot.com/
Cool idea - seems like a bad implementation though. Says I need 12,313 hours to beat all my Steam games. When inspecting more closely I call bollocks. They have 188 hours listed for the main quest of Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. While it's true that it's a long and great game, the main story can be completed in MUCH less time.

And for the games they don't have info for, they just use the average of all games on Steam they have info for. I seriously doubt it takes almost 11 hours to beat each episode of Back To The Future. I did it in about 2.5 each and that was taking my time.

Yeah, it just collects the info from http://www.howlongtobeat.com/ so the info isn't his fault. The guy said he is going to make an option to remove purely multiplayer only titles and remove whatever title you want as well. Like I said, not perfect, but it is fun to see. Sure it may be off a fair % but it still gives you a ballpark.
