Free Stuff - Needs Updating

There are quite a few free and free2play games and mods on steam. You can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Welcome back idiot! Welcome back mind link!

Dually noted.

If MindLink is starting a cult, I'll be the first to signup. He can be my "spiritual Advisor" anytime.

Also, anyone else wish they had just names SteamOS, GladOS instead?

I'm a self-styled shaman so I literally advise spirits. Only. Have a free T-shirt for $29.99 doe:

Hopefully, Hearthfire & Dragonborn have a 75% off or better sale SOON...

...hopefully BETTER. ;)

Better yet - if those 2 were ALSO given away for FREE, I'd probably fall out of my chair.
D'oh! I thought Mind LInk was pulling off a a serious Sacagawea

Either way, welcome back!

Yep, I was reintroduced to the public and very few gave a fuck.

Good looks, guys!

I've got a question that's just nagging at me. In the game Ravaged, how exactly was the world Ravaged before the devs realized that the game was a flop and decided to add Zombies to it?

I mean, I get how the world is Ravaged now. It's Ravaged with zombies. But before the zombies...???

I think we all feel that way. I guess someone somewhere reported a picture and the mods are keeping there eyes out for it now.
It started when someone posted a bunch of large, slightly NSFW pictures. They were reported, removed, and Trakan (and Shrike, I think) came onto the thread saying not to post large pictures. I never heard anything about pictures being a silenceable offense beyond that one statement by Trakan regarding "large pictures".

It was a desolate, post-apocalyptic world. So it had been Ravaged, hence the state it was left in.

This video explains it best:

loved the music parodies on In Living Color, and then later on Mad TV, this was one of my favorites along with the Vanilla Ice Parody Jim Carrey did.

SteamOS is a stupid name. What about Gaming Linux and Distribution Over Steam?

What's wrong with posting about trusted spiritual advisors®
Gingers have no souls, hence why I post pictures of cooked hindu gods.

[burger pic removed here]

Discriminates against souless gingers.
exactly ;)

Like 5. I'm walking on sunshine now.
make it 6 ;)

I really don't understand this...as long as the pictures being posted aren't offensive I don't get the big deal.
apparently burgers are offensive to some people. ;)

HEADS UP: Lots of people are reporting Skyrim Dawnguard DLC is being added to their account for free.

Hey man, I don't know if you, Mind Link, Sunasun (? and anyone else?) were able to catch Tony's post in the Amazon thread. I'm not sure if it specifically refers to anything you guys did or if it carries over into other threads, but it was very cool of him to do. It's worth a look: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/316950-amazon-pcdd-1999-bioshock-triple-pack-1999-metro-franchise-pack-499-bioshock-dual-pack-199-flyn-pre-order-deals/page-92#entry11072369

Looks like the GOG limited time exclusivity finally ended.
I kind of feel bad for GOG, they do the work to make sure the games work on current systems and likely only get a fraction of the sales that Steam does for them. I realize GOG signed the contract with publishers for it to work that way, but they're getting the bad end of the deal.

When I was a kid we didn't even have polygons and we liked it! The youth of today are spoiled with an abundance of the damn things.
When I was a kid we didn't even have graphics! Text was good enough for us! (Just kidding, I'm not actually that old. But I do remember playing Snake and Gorilla in BASIC, or whatever they called those games back then.)

It's actually this period of 3D graphics that I can't take, 1998-to the mid 2000s. 2D looked so much better at the time!

"Requires the TI Cassette Interface Cable and a cassette recorder"

Imagine having to go play outside for an hour, come in, flip the tape, then play outside for another hour before your game loaded! Damn kids these days complaining about load times *shakes old man fist*

I'm so with you.

Who thought it was a good idea to go from [customspoiler=this]

And yeah, I also enjoyed loading up gorillas.bas in qbasic and slinging some bananas.

Some of which don't seem quite so free here any more.

damn, this just kinda snuck on to the steam store

Yay, now I can't wait for the first game to show up on Steam so I don't have to bust out the PS1 to play it anymore.

Around 1978, I played Zork on a mainframe computer at a friend's workplace. True story.

Daily deal is Dead Space 2 @ 75% off

Midweek deals are the Hitman series and Dark Souls both at 75% off.

According to Enhanced Steam, Dead Space 2 seems to have Tages DRM. Anyone have experience with this? It would fill the gap in the Humble EA Bundle.

Thanks!

I believe the steam version is the only one without tages. I may be wrong, maybe someone else can confirm this

I have it on origin, along with 1 & 3

So at this point is it best to wait on GFWL purchases (Dark Souls as an example) to see if the DRM is patched out or does it matter?  I don't think I have GFWL installed on my current machine and I might like to keep it that way.  Maybe.

Enhanced Steam is showing that because the store page says "GAME USES SOLIDSHIELD CONTENT PROTECTION TECHNOLOGY."

If it's been removed from the Steam version, they haven't updated their legalese.

You're thinking of Dead Space 1. Dead Space 1 has no extra DRM on Steam, but AFAIK Dead Space 2 has DRM everywhere.

Dark Souls might be my favorite game of this generation. I can't play it anymore though, because I've run through the game in nearly every build I could think of. Finally got sick of it after investing somewhere between 300-400 hours into it. Also, I'd be surprised if a game this recent, still this popular, didn't get a patch. Even if it doesn't, you have the next 9 or 10 months or whatever to play it. Besides, Dark Souls 2 comes out in March, so you'll have moved on by then (probably) anyway.

Thanks my friend. Many questions were indeed answered by that video.

And yet, it raises a new and troubling question. What the hell does the fox say?

So anyone who have Dead Space 2 on steam can clarify if it still have tages or not?
