Orbweaver Update

I'm not sure why I did it, maybe I just wanted to test another game with the Orbweaver (it is high on my playlist) but I installed Painkiller: Black Edition and the Orbweaver works with it... Still cannot get it to work with L4D2 or the bulk of my games...

Anyhow, I emailed/contacted Razer via their website sometime yesterday or what not... Will see if I get any sort of response within their 24 hours... (I'm sort of doubting it.)

I was thinking about getting one of these to replace my Nostromo but now I am hesitant. Do you mean that the keys don't work at all in game or it isn't switching the game profile correctly? My nostromo just functions as a keyboard so the game doesn't matter since I usually change the game key bindings rather than the Nostromo. Then I don't have to try to get the software to recognize when a specific exe loads.

I thought I had decided - was going to download Black Mesa mod for HL2 (I've never played the original Half Life GASP), then it started downloading, said it would take 2-3 hours. Wish I had that Comcast Blast you have. So I decided on the original Deus Ex, which I've also never played (GASP again).
Take a look at the New Vision Mod for Deus Ex if you have not already. It updates textures to make the game look more up-to-date.

PC Gamer - Top 100 PC games (as of Feb 2011) had Deus Ex at #1 -> http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/02/16/the-100-best-pc-games-of-all-time/10/

PC Zone - in 2007, they had it also at #1 -> http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/deus-ex-named-top-pc-game-of-all-time

Why are you backing up your games...? I can understand saves but no one has 29 GB of saves in Max Payne 3... I mean if steam sucks the big fat one and dies (completely) I suspect we all get bigger issues than game back ups...
Yep, I wouldn't have the patience to back up my entire steam library of hundreds of games. I just download the games I am actually going to play. On a 1 tb drive I can download a ton of games without needing to delete anything. Since it's a one time download the speed doesn't kill me. I only backup my saves. By the time I fill up a drive with 60 plus games over years it is time to reformat again because I am building a new system or doing a maj or upgrade.

A few years back, over a period of a few weeks I went through my entire CD collection and ripped it to FLAC. I then copied the FLACs to my home-built Linux XBMC server for listening through my audio system and transcoded them to OGG/MP3 for portable devices & streaming. I also backed up the FLACs to DVDs since I have no idea how long the original CDs will last (not that I actually play CDs much at all these days, and I have 25 year old CDs that still work fine unless I actually scratch them).

For my DVD movies, I've ripped & shrunk them to MKV H.264 (using Handbrake) and also put them on XBMC, and backed up the MKVs to DVD (though I'm thinking of getting a BD writer for backups now).

Yes, it was a lot of work, especially with the CDs, but it was worth it - the wife and kids love the easy & instant access to music, movies, photos, etc. The fact that I'm on Linux makes things quite a bit easier since I could script the entire process for ripping, tagging, transcoding, etc.
Don't think backing up my DVDs is worth doing since it takes a lot of time for my crappy machine to transcode video. But CDs... I started using FLAC years ago and never looked back.

I do have several CDs that have begun to rot. I tend to find older releases so I rip those as soon as possible.

In my opinion it's crazy to be backing up games to blu-rays instead of an external HDD. I use a 2TB Western Digital Passport. Could not be more convenient and they're significantly cheaper than when I got mine. They also come in more colors, wish I had the blue one but they only sold it in black back then.

Just a quick comment on BD players for PC. I got a laptop a little over two years ago with a BD player and an HDMI out port. It seemed like a good idea because any movies I've bought in the last few years have been on BD and the laptop makes a nice portable player if I go on vacation or somewhere without a BD player. Unfortunately, the Cyberlink PowerDVD software that came bundled with the laptop is a limited time license and stopped working after what I assume was two years, making it useless as a BD player. What a crock of shit. That's information that they definitely don't tell you when you buy it. They release a new version every year or so and apparently the older ones stop working after so long.

You sure it just doesn't need updating? I'm still using PowerDVD 7.3 that I got with one of my drives a few years back. It's given me headaches occasionally, but that usually means there's an incremental update or patch for it. I've never seen time limited OEM licenses that weren't blatantly advertised as such.

Ah yes, on the topic of Bluray on PCs:

Don't bother using it for movies. Period.

The DRM system that they slapped on top of the discs makes it a pain in the ass. You're better off buying a standalone player than trying to wrestle with the ridiculous licenses AND the crap software. If only it was as easy as DVD playback, but nope. They couldn't make it that easy.

I'm using AnyDVD HD and aside from maybe one new release since I've had the software, DRM hasn't been an issue. Maybe that helps with my lack of issues with PDVD as well?

Who feels Like thinking about The Wolf Among Us for the next 20 minutes? I know that Game's been on some of your Radars for awhile.

That pretty much defeats the purpose of using any "official" BD player software. You should be able to use any player.

I'm not sure what happened since I entered my name/email and submitted it, then the page went back to saying "check back tommorow".

Thankfully Louidog is freaking awesome and gave me a code ^_^

Wish I could like your post more than once

The trick was to copy/paste your email address and type 1 letter for your name. You have a lower chance of winning if you type everything manually.

Yeah, I got the dialog, pasted my email but took too long to type in a name (in retrospect, going with with Spoderdiot MacNinjaCheaplikeasquirrell was probably a mistake...)

Yeah, same thing happened to me. Maybe if I had taken Sean Connery's advice and punched the keys for God's sake, I would have won.

But thanks to some overwhelming generosity of a fellow BGCQ/CAG member, I received a code :D/

I came close yesterday, submitted my info, but to no avail. Didn't realize it mattered how quick you typed in your stuff, because I'm a moron. Otherwise would've been ready w/copy paste.

This was the first time I even had a chance to try and get it. Every time I've been stuck busy at work except today and I just couldn't get it. Guess I'll wait for a sale.

Also going to wait on a bigger sale on AVGN Adventures. 75% off or bust.

Maybe I was just luckier then. Still a hell of a lot easier to win than the GOG freebies lol
Oh yeah those are literally impossible. I was closer to getting this by 100 miles.

Gripes!  I missed it again. Three tries... Three strikes... Guess I'll be waiting on a future sale for that one.

When I tried to update it I was told I was free to upgrade it for something ridiculous like $120. I passed. It may just be software preloaded on certain computers, I'm not sure.

Now that I think about it, it may have been that they stopped supporting new BDs instead of it just not working. Either way, it made it useless.

If all you're looking at is a single .m2ts, then I guess so, but you can do that without it. If you want to play the container or in my case the .iso, then no, a proper player (or really proper codecs) is still required.

Ah, that makes sense then. Yeah, my 7.3 is most definitely EOL.

I think I'm gonna wait til all of the episodes are released before I play any of it.

FYI if you're waiting to pre-load Assassin's Creed 4, you can load 260.1 MB of it now.
