So let's talk about Elder Scrolls Online and how we're all getting it.

Or maybe it's just me. And the rest of you will wait for F2P. And I'll be in the hole hundreds of bucks.

Seems like a win?

:joystick:
As I've said before, the sub is a bit of a deal-breaker for me, but I have mixed feelings about this. . . .
ESO looks like they just took Skyrim and added mass co-op. Mechanics of that game just don't work for an MMO. F2P within a year.
I don't know much about ESO at this point, but it seems to me like Skyrim would work pretty well as an MMO, especially if there's a solo-friendly epic story (which apparently there is). Grafting decent grouping mechanics onto Skyrim may be tricky but I figure if anyone's capable of doing that, it's probably Bethesda.

Not getting it - at least not anytime soon.
<snip>
Also, I do believe that putting the "MMO" and lots of other players online factor into a Elder Scrolls game will take away what makes a ES game what they are and are so special in the 1st place - basically, old ES games feel like huge offline MMO type of RPG that are very extremely mod-friendly. ES was the SP-style MMO (b/c of the game's HUGE size, game-world & the way quests are built/put together) for those who didn't want to go online and deal w/ other players. I think by putting the MMO into an ES game, it basically could become just another MMO w/ likely no modding really allowed.
I agree that Skyrim feels like an SP MMO. By their open-world nature a lot of recent RPGs that are ostensibly SP affairs are structured like MMOs: you have quest hubs and you can move around where you want and pick and choose your quests/questlines.

I think that's why Turbine's MMO's once they went F2P w/ micro-transactions + Guild Wars series + TSW once it dropped its sub-fee did so well - b/c gamers could now just buy the game + play whenever they felt like (as long as the company's servers were up), not having to worry about sub-fees. If gamers really dug an MMO and wanted new content, they could just buy the new pieces of content whenever necessary.
And this is why I have mixed feelings about subs. Subs give you a motivation to play a game and I used to think that was a negative but I'm not so sure. I've spent something in the neighborhood of ~$100 over the course of four years or so on LOTRO but I'm at a point where I don't feel a need or strong desire to play, even though I have a LOT of content that I haven't played yet. I don't know if that's me or the game or both--maybe I need the kick in the pants of "hey, I'm paying $10-15/month for this, so I better get my money's worth out of it." I'm really not sure.

E.Y.E. has visually interested me for a while. That's about all I can contribute to the topic. Hopefully, I'll get around to playing it before the end of the decade.
I find eyes visually interesting too; I don't know why. . . .

The game should be so good, I should keep playing it b/c I really want to keep on playing...

...not b/c I am forcing myself to get my so-called $15 sub-fee worth out of it.

I can never stick around long enough to try and win anything, but I still like to pop in and see some fresh new games that I (usually) know next to nothing about. I'll be definitely be on for thursday, as I've been wanting to check out Kerbal for a while now.

Time to get rid of some more old codes.

PM for one of these:

Project Aftermath
Madballs in BABO Invasion + DLC
Commander: Conquest of the Americas Gold
Thank you very much for Project Aftermath! I need to start ending up with extra copies of games so I can start giving back as much as you guys do...

I don't disagree. I just have a very uneven personal history with MMOs. I find it very hard to get sucked into them for more than a few weeks at a time.

I want to assure everyone who watched the Super Bowl that, yes, that was me in that ad, and, yes, Tebow caught me. But have no fear! It was all faked to sell whatever that ad was for! Also, the keen observer might have noticed that doing the stunts for me was my cousin, UneducatedSasquatch.

I've had a bunch of keys for what seems like ages, and I'm bored of trying to sell them. I'll be dumping stuff for the next few days, so if you want one, quote this and say what you want and I'll pm you.

Enclave
Hamlet
Huntsman: Orphanage
LIMBO
Necrovision
I'll take Necrovision if it's still available.

Could I have Limbo?

I got Guacamelee. 7 hours later I'm at the final stage. -Not- the final boss. I haven't done everything that has to be done either. It's a pretty fun game.

I dread having to beat it in hard... and some of those challenges... ouch.

Its pretty much at the top of my indie want list right now... I still hold out on a bundle. (Mostly for other reasons, I think I would be really happy with the game while paying 3.75)

I just finished Max Payne 3.... it's a linear Rockstar story with some YouShoot segements.  It took me 10 steam hours (probably 8-9 discounting afk/alt-tab).  I'm not big on shooters and I haven't played MP1/2.  I started on Normal but wound up knocking it down to Easy after a few chapters.  I see why it's 30 GB of textures... it is very detailed and has a variety of environments.   It usually ran at 60 FPS on my GTX 660 X 1920x1200 with default (very high) settings.  I'm tempted to rate it more as an experience, like Brothers, but with more gunplay.  I didn't like it; but I didn't hate it.  I've beaten it and now can reclaim those 30 GB of diskspace.

I remember asking you if you wanted to play.

Now you complain about having no one to play with.

Do you hate me or something?
(probably just bad timing on my part).
;)

Also, last time I played you weren't online. So there was that too.

Man, I spent waaaay too much time the other night figuring out a "Kick and Jump" requirement in a single frame didn't necessarily mean a Kick + Jump in one single shot. It's probably best the AI can't mock you for poor late night reading comprehension.

Well, I hope everyone that bought Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe sold off their cards.. because it's likely to be in Be Mine 11. Oh, and don't buy Sang Froid, because it looks like that might be in it as well. Not 100% sure on Sang Froid though, but Shufflepuck seems to be a lock.

The first picture could be Infected: The Twin Vaccine - Collector's Edition and the third picture looks like Woody Two-Legs: Attack of the Zombie Pirates.

Four In February update.

Feb 01 - beat Duke Nukem Forever (Not a great game, but it's nowhere near as bad as it's reputation suggests)

Feb 02 - beat Portal 2 (and yea I know, it's ridiculous that I only just now got to this game)

Gonna play Bastion next.

Then after that, I think I'm gonna beat Asteroids.

Yeah, I felt pretty much the same. I think the story was a little too depressing for me - maybe it was just the time/mindset I was in while playing it. I wasn't sorry I played it, but I can't really say I liked it much either. I liked MP1 & MP2 a lot more (although they aren't exactly cheery games either).

is this four in february as in "beat four games in february?" because if so, you're off to a good start

Yeah, you gotta beat four games in February. This was a big thing last year in this thread, but it looks like I'm the only one doing it this year. Or at the very least, I'm the only one talking about it. But then, many of you actually play your games. So the notion of beating 4 games in a month is probably no big deal to you guys.

there's no way i'm beating four games in february, just because im playing morrowind. if i'm lucky, i'll be done morrowind by the end of the month.

The new Bundle Bandits is out. It's not even worth me posting the list so I will just say it's not Mooby approved and leave it at that.

Though I might still get it because I kind of want Card Match 3D

Is there a thread for it somewhere? It was an interesting idea and it got me playing some stuff I normally would not have last year, even if I was lame and didn't actually finish them all.

As I've said before, the sub is a bit of a deal-breaker for me, but I have mixed feelings about this. . . .

I don't know much about ESO at this point, but it seems to me like Skyrim would work pretty well as an MMO, especially if there's a solo-friendly epic story (which apparently there is). Oh noes I'm talking RPGs again with Warreni! :p

ESO does work well as a solo game, which is both good and bad for someone who is not tradionally an MMO player. Good in that it caters to them, bad in that (for now) you will have to pay a sub. It does have an epic you are a stranger who must save the world story and it seems interesting.

I'm a long time Elder Scrolls player (since the DOS days) and a bit of a lore nerd and well, let's just say there's a lot of retconning going on and some of the alliances seem really forced. Aside from the main quest, the rest of the stories and setting going on seem tailored to try to nudge you into PvP by creating rivalry and animosity with other factions.

I only really tried grouping once. There was a zone/instance that was pretty much geared for a group. This was the only one I had come across. I went with a PUG (pickup group aka random people) and it didn't go so well. Not due to anything on their part per se but rather one person kept inevitably dying due to the mobs then they had to start over and by the time they ran back to the group someone else had died or all the rest had etc and it was just a mess. It didn't encourage me to want to group again any time soon.

Having said that when SWTOR started the grouping was really bare bones and lacking but they kept adding features over time and it's loads better now, though there's still some issues like not really being able to group well with people of disperate levels etc.

Oh and re: 'If anyone can do it, Bethesda can'. This is a totally different team FWIW though it's not like the main ES team had much experience with MMOs anyway.

Overall there's some nice things about ESO. I really like seeing some of the areas that we previously only heard about in lore like Elsewyr and Summerset. I just don't know if I think it's worth paying a sub for essentially a single player game since I have no interest in PvP. Yes thank you people who virtual gangbanged me in Ultima Online in the 90s for my aversion to PvP.

Four games:

FFXIII - kinda cheating this one. I literally am on the last boss, and just kind of considered it complete since I watched my wife beat the game prior.

Dark Souls: I love this game I have spent SO many hours in it, but I never finished it, I just play around farming, pvping etc.

Sleeping Dogs: Was enjoying this winter sale pick up immensely , until I bought Tomb Raider on Amazon Winter Sale, got to get back to and finish this.

Something retro: Zelda II, Blaster Master, TMNT 1 I really should beat something I never quite finished as a kid. These are by far my oldest uncompleted 20+ years!!!

My problem is that I play long games and it takes me a couple of months at a minimum to finish them. I'm playing through base Skyrim now, just wrapping up side quests that I didn't attend to while doing the Alduin and civil war lines. I want to wrap that up before I start on the Dawnguard and Dragonborn DLCs I picked up last November and December. I figure Skyrim's going to suck up a lot of my time for the next couple of months. I'm also working on Just Cause 2, which should be much shorter, but it will still probably take me > 1 month to finish.

Hm. I did two in January (HOTD: Overkill and Gunpoint)--do I get half-credit? :whistle2:

Exactly my problem. I'm in the middle of Morrowind right now. I would suspend playing for February and knock out a few shorter ones, but I want to finish Morrowind so that I can devote all my time to Dark Souls 2 when it comes out.

Last years' 'Four In February' for me:

Assassin's Creed 3
Trine 2 (+ DLC)
Hotline Miami
Indie Game: The Movie (I'm counting this!)

This year:
Assassin's Creed: Liberation HD
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
and need to decide on 2 more: http://steamcommunity.com/id/carlmundo/games?tab=all

I was going to say Metal Slug 3 but there's a game that's to be played over and over.
I'll vote for To The Moon. It's short and a great story.

You should try Bulletstorm. Or Binary Domain.

Yikes, is it February already?

My 4:

Batman: Arkham Origins

Brother - A Tale of Two Sons

Beyond Good & Evil

Bastion

If I beat those:

The Bard's Tale

Bad Hotel

The Ball

Beast Boxing Turbo

Ben There, Dan That!

Bientôt l'été

Binary Domain

BioShock 2

Blades of Time

Blocks That Matter

The Bridge

Bumbledore

Bully

And that will be about 25% of my 'B' games done.

My 4:

...

Brother - A Tale of Two Sons

...
If nothing else I will tackle Brothers soon because it's short, everyone raves about it, and Asheskitty gifted it to me so it would be really rude of me not to play it.

I'm all about the short games lately. I love Elder Scrolls and all you might as well tell your friends and family goodbye and have them throw a bon voyage party for you when you commit to playing those games.

My graphics card cost me £450 (over $700) and shields me from peasantry.

I guess it also earns me a ban from CAG for spending too much.
But you got a voucher for free games out of it! (I hope)

Seriously, I don't mind spinding for a good mid to high end video card. I know it will last me a couple of years and I won't have to worry about games not running well on it even though the bulk of my collection is low requirment indie stuff.

I'm playing a bit too much of sanctum 2,and I'm enjoying it. There are always people playing online, and the best part is no one bothers you!

I'm doing it for the first time. Almost finished with bioshock which I first started over 5 years ago. Next is AC liberation, then Spec Ops the line and then probably Splinter Cell Conviction.
