This thread has been replaced by TSDT v11

Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:
All days.

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

Bad Rats, Fowl Space, Rush Bros, Day One Garry's Incident, Postal 2, Grimm and whatever else I can think of later all tagged. Edit: Guise of the Wolf Also tagged. Edit, Edit: Typing Of The Dead Overkill also tagged. Looks like my campaign to ruin any meaning to the tagging process is going swimmingly.
meh, i agree with typing of the dead as 2deep4u. It's so pretentious.

Good news. With the new tag system I have added the new '2deep4u' tag -- be sure to do your part and label such games appropriately.

Valve has added in a system to "report" tags so they can be removed now by users as well as the more nazi gestapo developers like Derek Smart who have been having some of them removed (seriously, if you're bored read some of his many posts and his 'review' of his own game. He's completely off the fucking rails megalomanical insane).

Also some of what passes for the gaming press these days like Kotaku embarassed Valve for being such rose colored glasses idiots with their implementation of this feature.

Basically in the future expect all the tags to pretty much be Care Bears and Kittens or disappear sooner or later.

I love how in the review of his own game he has zero hours on record. If he can't be bothered to play his own game I'm certainly not going to waste my time.

2K publishes the Borderlands series. Not sure if serious...
There was a rumor spread by a supposed ex employee that the money that was supposed to pay for Aliens Colonial Marines was shifted to Gearboxes own Borderlands series instead. Whether this is valid or if the employee was trying to hurt the companies rep because of a grudge against them is something I don't give a damn about. Regardless there's no arguing that the quality of the finished product was sorely lacking. I personally though just chalk it up to the same crap that broke Duke Nukem Forever.

Given that he's spent so much time lately writing huge dissertations on how he will allow no one to disrespect him and if you don't know who he is you've been living off world and should spend some time reading up on him and how anyone who has anything remotely negative to say falls into one of the 9 types of entitlement and recruiting brown nosing mods to do the banning for him because so he can finally get some sleep it doesn't surprise me that he wouldn't have time for playing.

I do not doubt that for a second. Gearbox are nothing more than scammers at this point.

I do read the interwebs.

So it's YAACMR? (Yet-Another-Aliens-Colonial-Marines-Reference)

Carry on then...

Yeah, Borderlands is awesome but they stole the art style from this guy and didn't pay or credit him.

They also directly took part of another guy's art and put it on their game, literally copy pasted part of his poster. Can be seen at the same URL above.

I tried ordering the bordaland with my iPad cause of prior posts saying it works better, it did give me an order completed screen and immediate email confirmation but the key is still processing.

There's no denying the inspiration of Codemasters in Borderlands, but I've seen nothing that looks like it was directly copied. Codehunters did not create cel shading, nor did it create the Japanese styles after which it was modeled. There's a difference between derivative work and plagiarism. Not that it wouldn't have been nice to acknowledge the inspiration.

As to the lifted artwork on the poster, well, it's already been established that it was sourced from a contracted marketing artist. The artwork in question was indeed lifted from the Olly Moss original and they've dealt with the situation. By the way, Olly is fine with the situation and how it was handled.

You should have at least mentioned the resolution to the artwork problem when you quoted the material. Saying it was "stolen" and leaving it at that is irresponsible. And watch Codehunters, if you haven't already. You'll see what I'm saying is true.

I added "DOSBox" to Worms 1 and that's gone now. But now with tags I'll always know which games are "Action" and "Indie"!

Maybe Gearbox should hire you as a legal consultant.

Ok, how bout a cheerleader then? I'm amazed you'd go out of your way to defend this kind of shit.

I'm in a bad mood, don't mean to start a fight. I'm gonna go work on my 3rd in Feb.

Oh, that guy.

He was a major source of entertainment back in my usenet days.

Cheerleaders support the team even when they are losing.

In this case, Gearbox was in the right. I'm not an expert, but I did watch the movie. It's likely that a court of law would support that as well. MTV Asia is the production company and I'm fairly certain they'd pursue damages if there were a case to be made.

And in the case with Olly Moss, they made it right and acknowledged the problem.

Gearbox isn't always right, of course. I feel like they oversold Duke Nukem Forever (despite my being glad that it was finished and released) and there were some very poor decisions (and some deception, imo) surrounding Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Incidentally, A:CM seems to be the source of a lot of the GBX hate these days. Seems a lot of people bought into the Pitchford line and were pretty butt-hurt when they realized they were sold a bill of goods.

So, lawyer, no. Cheerleader, no. Unless they're going to pay me, of course.

Update (3pm, 2/15/14): We've temporarily run out of Steam keys! We'll re-enable the promo link once we've stocked back up. To anyone that has already completed their order, you should be receiving your key soon if you haven't already!

Just finished Guacamelee, me 3rd out of 4 in february. Pretty good game, platforming could get a bit tedious, but overall a solid, enjoyable B to B+. No idea what I'm playing next.

"Update (2/15/14): Wow! So the popularity of this offer has really exploded, which is great! Except for the part where we ran out of Steam keys… (We also suspect we’ve had some non-Mac gamers taking advantage, too, so blame them for the temporary hiccup. ; ) We’ve now added more keys, but as all good things must come to end, we’ve capped the deal at 500 more uses as of 3:45pm CST today. Once lucky member #500 clicks the offer, it will officially expire. Anyone that has already completed their order will still receive their free key; just keep an eye on your inbox! (Update #2: That was fast! All offers for the free DLC have been redeemed.)"

Officially dead now.

OH REALLY?

Edit: Kinda beaten.

Well, I am primarily a Mac user. ...and I do all my high end gaming on a PC.

Ok, for my next game, should I play...

1) Alan Wake

2) Far Cry 3

3) Max Payne (1)

4) Metro 2033

or

5) Psychonauts
Far Cry 3 is pretty long fyi. I had to take a break from it. (Easy though since there's no complicated story or mechanics to forget.) I haven't played the rest. (Well dabbled with MP1 on my tablet a ltitle.)

Go with Max Payne, it's a relatively short game.

Depending on your OS, though, you might have to download a patch that converts the audio to something Windows will recognize. Check the game's forum.
