This thread has been replaced by TSDT v11

Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:
All days.

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

GetGamesGo has a "Rebellion Classics" sale at 75% off, but GamersGate is beating them to the punch on a few of the games.

Deals include:

*(Note - The GamersGate versions appear to be DRM free, so no Steam.)
So tempted by Judge Dredd and Rogue Trooper but I'll resist and hope for a bundle.

So, anybody picking up Thief
a few months from now, because its a Square Enix game and will probably be 5$ somewhere in the next 6 months, like basically all their other releases, like Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs, Hitman Absolution?

Waiting for Square-Enix's inevitable massive sale/price-cut on this game.

So since I see other people do this, I'll join in. Help me decide what to tackle from my backlog next:

Just Cause 2

Assassin's Creed 2 (I also have Brotherhood, Revelations, and AC3 in my backlog)

Mass Effect 2 (was kinda hoping I could get the DLC before I start it though)

Half Life 1 (never finished it)

Star Wars KotOR

Alpha Protocol
Half Life 1. It's a classic because it legitimately is an outstanding game.

So tempted by Judge Dredd and Rogue Trooper but I'll resist and hope for a bundle.
Dredd's been in a bundle already, an Indie Royale from a while back.

I want Sniper Elite V1 but... GetGamesGo sucks. I'll wait for another sale.

It's good, but it's also legitimately dated at this point. I was playing it last year, and I had a good enough time with it, but not good enough to bring me back to finish it. It's one of those older FPS games with a great story BEHIND it, but hardly tangible in the gameplay. It's just a bunch of going from point A to point B shooting things, with very little narrative.

It's still worth playing if you're a big fan of shooters and don't mind dealing with fairly dated gameplay and graphics, but if you aren't... I can't say I recommend it highly.

Indie Royales don't count, man.

Holy crap am I getting antsy about the lack of news on the release of the Dark Souls 2 PC version...every day I inch closer and closer to ordering it for Xbox. Blafeoifa

Also...is anybody else as intrigued as I am about the new Plants vs. ZOmbies game?

I'll wait it out, because it's one of those games that I love playing in the dark in silence with headphones and all. Not that it's much of a horror game, but that personal, close setting is just perfect for playing those games.

Agreed...although I have a set of headphones I can hook into my Xbox, and my gaming setup is in my room...so that would work fine, as well. I just want to go into it cold. I'm going to be really tempted to read up on it if the PC version doesn't release for like, a month or so after the console versions.

It's confirmed for March, so it's max 3-ish weeks later?
i dont know. I'm worried that if it was going to be that soon, they'd have announced it by now....where'd you see the pc version is confirmed for march? All I've read is that there's no news.

I'm not getting excited about it until I see reviews. EA just destroyed Plants vs Zombies 2 with microtransactions and p2w mechanics. They took what could have been a brilliant sequel and utterly ruined it.

I know the other PvZ game is not supposed to have microtransactions, but I can't help but think EA will find some way to ruin it. Besides, the real sequel I wanted was the TD game, not a FPS-ish game.

Missed it...

El Diablo news... quoting from our D3 thread.

I suppose I may finally dust off and register my $10 D3 copy (M$ store).

Apparently patch 2.0.1 goes live tomorrow (02/25/2014) after maintenance.

Here's a great Reddit post about Everything you need to be ready for Reaper of Souls

Quote

FOR DIABLO 3 VANILLA:

  • Paragon 2.0 - Paragon levels are account wide instead of character specific. Each paragon level gives you a point to place in an attribute category. More info here here.
  • Loot 2.0 - Loot is receiving a massive overhaul. Stat rolls on items are being tightened (75-100 vs 1-100) to make more items potentially good for you. Legendaries are receiving unique, build changing attributes. A new Smart Drop system is implemented to make more items that drop relevant to the class you are playing. Drop rates have been scaled back (quality over quantity) to stop the flood of mostly-useless items. Legendaries are also Bind on Account, but can be traded to friends who are within the same game as you when the item drops. There is a 2 hour time limit for the item to be traded, after which it is bound to you. Crafting has also been both simplified and expanded. You can check out a WIP list of the legendaries that will find in Patch 2.0 and in Reaper of Souls here.
  • Clans and Communities - There are two new ways to interact with other players. You can be a part of a clan, which has a specific clan chat and clan notifications. You can only be a part of one clan at a time, and each clan has a cap of 120 members. You can also be a part of as many communities as you want, which are basically custom chat communities that have no member limit. You can read more about them here.
  • Difficulty Changes - The old Difficulty system has been thrown out, and now has been replaced by a new system. Monsters in game will constantly scale with your level. On top of that, you can adjust the difficulty by choosing the difficulty mode, ranging from Normal to Torment 6, for increased experience and rewards.
  • Reworked Skills - In line with the new items and other game changes, many skills have been reworked. Many have gained an elemental damage type and others have been scaled up or changed so that all the runes of each skill are a lot more viable than before.

Steam key crusader and an educator of ignorant indie developers
I feel like this should be your CAG avatar tagline.

Sweet. I need you to describe it to me like a visual novel. With horny high school girls and a dreamy male teacher. And I want a pet panda or something.
sticker,375x360.u1.png

There needs to be a Sylvester Stallone bundle with Judge Dredd, Rambo and the Expendables.

They fix the rigged-for-Auction-House drop system and you still complain about offline mode. Have you ever considered that there might exist happiness online too?
When my connection is up, when their servers are up, and when there's no lag - sure, then there's happiness online.

But, I want offline happiness, too - D1 + D2 had it.

I still want my offline mode, though. Consoles have it.

And it's easy enough to finish the game solo'ing - I'd know, I've done it.

{shoulder shrug}

And it's not like 500 PC players are running around on the same map, are they?

Once I hit a thousand owned steam titles, then I will deal only with the titles that most interest me.

Aw, who am I kidding, CAG has ruined me. I'm going to continue buying all the bundles long after I've hit one thousand.
lol, after activating my recent bundle buys including fox's happy hour indie stellar new one bundle, I'm at 994. what should be my 1000th game on Steam?

They don't have an agreement because they choose not to have one. Groupees has told me that they explicitly have it in their contract now that if a game gets in through Greenlight Steam keys are to be provided to them. It doesn't mean some publisher or developer might not try to pull shenanigans but it gives them a leg to stand on if they do.

That Bundle Bandits is chosing not to pursue such an agreement may be honest but as far as I am concerned (note: this is an opinion) it's also lazy on his part to wash his hands of it and put it on the customer when the norm for every other bundle site (except shitty Indie Fort) is to handle that.

Additionally, it's not good for business. Much of the reason that these Greenlight bundles are selling is promise of Steam keys. It's not as if his lineup of Steam games in that bundle are anything new or fresh you can't get somewhere else right now so he'd be better off doing something to try to draw people in. The fact is Steam keys, or even the promise of them, sells more bundles then not having them.

The fact that he is also an indie game developer (he is the PENIS Frenzy and Paradigm Shift guy IIRC) may also play some part in this decision I suppose.
ftfy

for gingers, a grudge is forever. I wouldn't even take his piece of shit games for free.

and as usual, it's better to "buy" these separately, Steam pays you 12.51 vs the bundle where they only pay you 10.01

I just keep hearing that great Doobie Brothers song, "Takin' It to the Tweets"!
why the hell didn't anyone else like this post?

AC2 because you really can't/shouldn't play AC games back-to-back.

Missed it...
I was thinking about starting AC2 for that very reason, just to space them out. Then by the time I finish the other AC titles and play some other games, maybe I can get Black Flag for under $10 somewhere.

I started Half Life. I just finished toasting the tentacle monster, so I'm guessing I'm 1/3 through, ish? It's a bit dated and I'm not enjoying it as much as I probably would have 16 years ago, but I want to play HL2. So this is my duty. Also, as a recovering console gamer, I'm reeaaaalllllly struggling getting into mouse/keyboard controls. The platforming in this game is an absolute bitch.

Mass Effect 2 will come in a bit. I recently finished ME1 and put over 50 hours into it. I don't want to get burned out on the formula halfway into ME2.

Well it looks like it will be a badger month for me.  I am 1 episode away from finishing it (Gravity Badgers).  This game started out pretty simple, but around Episode 4 it gets pretty challenging.  In the fun, I want to replay this level 100 times way, so it's a good kind of challenging.

The Episode 4 boss battle is pretty crazy.  Took me a good many tries to get down the pattern before I could pass it and then some more before I got through it without getting hit once.

It's definitely a casual game since all you use is the mouse, but Episode 4 and 5 get pretty challenging.  If anyone is a fan of Angry Birds space, this one will be right up your alley.

I remember watching Carlmundo playing it and being disappointed it was so casual, but it definitely pays off if you stick with it.  By the looks of it I should be getting almost every achievement.  Don't know if I'll get the play 10 hours plus one since I'm at 4.3 hours and almost done with the game, but maybe I'll idle it just to finish that one off.

If anyone is experiencing the Batman: Arkham Origins glitch on Steam where some of buildings in the Burnley district appear like an empty mirage, here's a fix that worked for me:

-Exit Steam
-Go to: Steam\steamapps\common\Batman Arkham Origins\SinglePlayer\BMGame\Config
-Delete the BmEngine.ini file.
-Start up the game.

-The game will replace the file you deleted on startup.

-Fixed!

First and only time an Arma game has piqued my interest...

Why aren't there more dinosaur games out there?
I have always been fascinated by dinosaurs when I was a kid, maybe when the new movie Jurassic World comes out next year, we will see more dinosaur games based on that theme. There is a Jurassic Park mod for Half Life 2 called Jurassic Life, you may want to check it out.

Girls Like Robots

I completed that game, it is a nice casual puzzle game accompanied with relaxing country music and songs.
You have girls, nerds, robots and best of all pizzas, what else can you ask for?

Harder to code than zombies....

I do agree... For the most part. Its annoying in hell to still have that issue when there's now no justification for it. No more real money auction house. (This every Tuesday morning shit is for the birds.)

Well, cheers for that ashes. There I am trying my best to actually play some new games or finish off nearly-finished stuff (I'm working on Dust again), and you go and throw this Diablo 3 stuff out there.

You are a BAD friend.

On the plus side, good CAG. Saves pennies.

:whee:

May I be a bad friend also...?

Anyone who preorders/redeems the Reaper of Souls expansion by the 28th of March (it comes out on the 25th) gets a couple of goodies:

Reaper-of-Souls-610x323.jpg

Considering the Wings were pretty much the coolest item in the now expensive as hell CE of Diablio III this is pretty cool news. :D

I have no idea what Heroes of the Storm is...? Watched a trailer. Guessing a MOBA?

I am debating if I go home and even think about trying Thief. This idiot paid $30 for a preorder because well I thought Deus Ex HR was fantastic and thought Thief would be just as good. It was also in sept of last year so yeah...

Also Loot 2.0 today. So today is the day D3 finally gets fixed which is awesome.

I've seen some decent reviews for it... It might not be all bad.

Speaking of bad games... Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is getting panned... badly.

Wait, so is Loot 2.0 part of Reaper of Souls or is that a free update?

I uninstalled D3 after I beat it on Inferno but now I'm tempted to give it a go again...

... By critics. User score is 8.3/10. I'm not a fan of LOS, I think is not worth the name, but I can't deny it's a fun game.

About Thief... People bashed Hitman absolution, but I liked it. So maybe I'll like the new Thief too
