Thrift Store Thread 2012
Where I'm from originally, they NEVER had game stuff, when I heard the ones here do, I was blown away. I'm going to take a look at some point...eventually
The only Goodwill close to you is Hazleton. There's also a run down looking Salvation Army in Hazleton on one of their main streets. They've had some gaming related stuff before, but usually in a bulk lot with a lot of crap and not much good stuff.:whistle2:#
My savers put out about 40 games today. I missed out on a pokemon green GBA and some genny games.
You better watch out with the cart based games that you're not buying fakes. The one guy here at the local game shop figured out one of the Pokemon games that the shop had in their case was a counterfeit.

I did buy a pokemon red version (GBC), but I think it is legit compared to my others from garage sales. It does not say "red version" which I think is what the fakes say.
I swear the GWs around here must be sending their games to some central location to be sold online. They have absolutely nothing game related.......ever, cept of course tiger woods 2006.
Same here. Best game I ever found at GW is Super smash bros on n64.

Would it be a bad idea to buy the fakes just to transfer the unique Pokemon over to the DS? I refuse to pay $20-$30 for the Pokemon GBA games used.

Picked up fairly recently a Guncon 2. Also picked up an original "Xbox Protection Cord" that "...disconnects power to the Xbox console if it detects an electrical problem."

Least that's what it says on the plug itself. Might have to look up some more information on it before I use it with my original Xbox.

If the Gba cart is a fake the save file will get wiped on it when you try and transfer up to the DS games.

After seeing all the stuff you guys find at goodwill and stuff I finally started stopping by the ones in my area.

Recently I've picked up a Xbox original, good handful of ps1 games, and a few 64 and snes. I also stumbled upon some mobile fighter g gundam figures with boxes. One was raven gundam, some ball looking one, and master gundam with fu un Sai KI (his mobile horse). The moment I saw those I was smiling ear to ear.

I'll try and post a few pics when I get home for work.

Man, my dad and I both used to build those Gundam statues that were movable. My Dad was so into it he would even paint them however he wanted and still has them. It's fucking awesome.

What games did you find? Do you remember?

I picked up a nice greatest hits copy of ffvii this morning, along with a Lowel light kit. it has 2 vlights and 2 prolights. It wasn't cheap, but it was a really good value.

I found a couple of things today at the one SA store but didn't buy anything.

:dvd:Outfoxed documentary-$3 or $4
:dvd:America's Test Kitchens Season 11-some poor sap probably 'pledged' $100 to PBS to get this frickin' set:roll:-$3

And the best thing....a bootleg copy of some Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen movie.

I brought it to the attention of one of the ladies working the front counter and she just kinda shrugged, so I put it back in the dvd rack.

They also had these comic books from "America's Best" or some other weirdly named company. The series was called the League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen. It was a 5-6 book set. According to the ladies there they 'looked them up online' and put a fuckin' $29.99 price sticker on them.

Yeah, I think I have to go to that SA when I'm up that way for those... ;)

It's been a looooong time since I bought ANY comics, so I had no idea that some were actually worth something compared to the 90's when I stopped buying em due to the publishers all jackin' the prices up and everything being overprinted.

There's not a lot that I'd pick up, but anything Alan Moore, I'm usually in.

I know how you feel, my dad and I used to collect, but in the 90s and early 00s it killed us. I still get them when I find a series I'm into, but thank god for TPB coming out constantly now so I can read the full arcs and stories.

I still need to find a comic store near me that isn't too far to justify a $20-$30 dollar purchase every couple of weeks.

There used to be one just off the square in WB actually. But I think he's been gone for a while now. The only one I know of up in my area is Comics On The Green.

EDIT: A quick search turned up only that Comics On The Green and one in Pittston for actual comic stores round here anymore.

A guy I work with lives in Forty-Fort and I think goes to the one in Pittston, but I don't know that I want to make that drive too often.

At this point I just hope for graphic novel sales anywhere I go/look ha.

I've picked up the three Syphon filter games for ps1, crash team racing, duke nukes time to kill, driver, future cop lapd. For snes Ive found pilot wings and gunforce. And for 64, star wars shadows of the empire and super smash bros. Nothing real spectacular but everything was in working condition and stuff I want to play.

For Xbox I've found dead or alive, halo, and doom 3 ce. I sold my original Xbox along time ago when I bought a ps3 and wanted to get one again and $30 for one with two controllers and a wheel thing was the right price for me.

Btw does anyone reccomend an upload site to use an Iphone or ps3. My computers down and those are my only options for uploading.
Left a Final Fantasy tactics today. Why you ask? $24.99. Thanks new game guy at Savers.
At least you get to see it on the floor; at my Good Will I saw them in the back with a Nintendo DS and Gameboy Color w/ games like they were bricks of gold that had to be hidden from the light of day.

That was the problem with the old game guy. This new guy put out more games in 2 days than the other one did in 2 months. I am actually on overload. I dropped $70 yesterday and another $30 today filling in gaps/buying up some carts to resell. I'm working on testing them tonight.

I paid 6.99 for a perfect condition LoZ Gold NES cart only, but I know I can sell it and make money off of it. It just kills me to pay that much compared to the $0.25-$2 I would pay at a Garage Sale. I did get 30% off everything today, though so I guess it was about $5.25 w/tax.

my finds for today, final fantasy viii original black label complete, it comes with the games, the manual, and the walkthrough guide for 2.99

final fantasy x-2 black label with limited edition stragegy guide - 4.99

been having some decent luck at 2 local savers recently. One has game prices all over the place, and one recently started carrying games again, but at a flat price of $3.99 a game. Price isn't great for some titles, but did find a sealed copy of Morrowind Platinum Edition for the xbox for $3.99. Never had an original xbox(still don't), so probably going to sell it, should be able to make more then my initial investment :)

One of the GW stores I frequent got in three giant bins of comic books (possibly thousands), almost all in mint condition, most poly bagged with backing. They had them priced at $1, or $8 for 10. My fiance and I dug through and found a TON we wanted. After making several piles, we went to look for the manager that we know and asked him if he would do a pricing deal. At first he said, without seeing how many we had, he would go to .50/ea, since we are regulars. Then we asked him how much would he do for the piles we selected and he suggested $30 for them. SOLD!!!

He definitely lowballed his estimate, or just sucks at math, despite being a cool guy. Prior to posting, I sat and counted them all and we have 375 comics. Works out to exactly .08/ea, a far cry for $1, or $8 for 10. Had I known he would've gone that low, I would have take all three bins of them.

I'll try to get pics later, but it may be hard to do individual batches.

Went to three thrifts today. Two had nothing. I checked out the Downers Grove Savers. I will not be back. 39.99 for an nes? Gtfo. Not worth the 30 minute drive. Also hit my go to Goodwill and nothing. Between the two I hit an out of the way Goodwill which had a few things.

Yahtzee handheld: .99
Spyro: 1.99
Spyro Year of the Dragon: 1.99
Star Wars Rebel Assault 2: 1.99
You Don't Know Jack factory sealed: 1.99

All the games are ps1.

So finally figured out how to use photobucket with my phone.

Here's the figures I found:

Incomplete but not really a big deal. I'm not really interested in reselling them.

The boxes they came in.

And two more pics of stuff I found last Sunday.

So jealous of you guys. Just stopped by another thrift store, had a ps2 no controllers / hookups pretty ugly for $25. Had some trash PC games $20 each too

I hit a few pawn shops which is new for me, but after seeing the success of the Cags and Redditors, I decided to give it a try. None of the ones I went to had anything older than PS2 games, so I stopped at a Half Price books and found these-

Obscure:The Aftermath-Wii-Never heard of it, picked it up to try. Looks survival horror-y

Illusions of Gaia-SNES

Einhander-PS1

King of Fighters 95'-Japan Sega Saturn

And my mystery..
Bouken Jidai Katsugeki Goemon-Japanese PS2-The only reason I know this name is because I knew that was the Goemon from Legend of Mystical Ninja. So I looked it up. I can't find to much on the game other than it being a 3D game. There is only one on Ebay. Anybody know anything about its rarity?

I also snagged
Tengen Pac-man for NES
T&C Surf Design for NES
Sonic 2 for Genesis
Boxed sega master system. Complete. 40 bucks yay or nay?
Any games? If so I would say yes if you are buying to keep.

This is what I found today at Unique Thrift.

Another copy of...Mega Man 2. I think this is my 5th copy I have found at thrift stores. It can never be the first one. *sigh* Anyone want to trade?

I don't think it's terribly rare. Uncommon in the US, yes, but not necessarily rare. Judging by Amazon, you can probably expect to get less than $25 for it.

ah snake rattle and roll. I remember borrowing that game from someone in school, and made my nes go wonky and have to be cleaned, and then killed a friend of mines nes. Don't remember if i ever gave that game back to him after all that damage...

Been having real good luck at my local Savers stores recently(2 of them). Went in today and found those atari games bundled in bags 3 for .99cents
One bag only had 2 so it was .69 cents. Also found the Nes Advantage controller for 2.99. To bad I don't have a nes system anymore. As for Morrowind for the xbox, thats the copy I found at the other Savers a few days back for 3.99, it's sealed, so I think it's more than worth it. As for the Yahtzee game, it was 2.99, and for some reason they sell real well on ebay for alot more, so I picked it up once I knew it worked. Covered the rest of my gaming haul at least
I'm still kicking myself for not grabbing every damn copy of :xbox:Morrowind GOTY that FYE had a few years ago on clearance for $5 in a bin in the back of the store.
Just FYI, the previously pictured Morrowind is not the game of the year edition. It says "Game of the Year" on the cover, but it's not the game of the year edition. That confused the shit out of Gamestop employees, because I always seem to find GOTY copies with standard discs and vice versa, always with GS stickers on the front.

oh yeah it definitely isn't, but hey for 3.99 sealed, I thought it was still a pretty good deal :)

Cool thanks. I usually don't buy to resell, but it's nice to know if I have anything worth any value.

The first obscure isn't terrible, I saw the second for PS2 at my GS the other day(that one you have is the second) and thought about getting it to see how it was. As for the Einhander, I am so fucking jealous. I want a copy of that game more than I want most classic games.

Had a decent day at Goodwill yesterday, nothing great but at least cheap:

Street Fighter EX3 (PS2): 2.99
Pac Man World (PS1): .99
Ready 2 Rumble (PS1): .99
WWF The Arcade Game (PS1): .99
Tekken 2 (PS1) in a Tekken 1 long box: .99

So ya, nothing particularly good but at least cheap filler. Only ever played Tekken and Ready 2 Rumble.
So the light kit I found at GW ended up being this: http://www.lowel.com/kits/DVpro44_sm.html

It lists for $2240 new. I'm not really sure who donates things like that, but I'm not going to complain!
While not nearly as impressive this reminds me of the HP 2159m I found for $20 at a Salvation Army about 3-4 months ago. It normally sells for $250 brand new and is full HD complete with an HDMI port.

That's a sweet find. I am amazed at how quickly CRT monitors are being replaced by LCDs at thrifts. I haven't found a blu-ray player yet, though.
