I
n news today, Disney has issued their Toy Story 3 press release, which confirms that the film will bow in multiple versions: a single-disc DVD (SRP $29.99), a 2-disc Blu-ray (SRP $39.99) and a 4-disc Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy Combo (SRP $45.99). You'll also be able to buy a new Ultimate Toy Box 3-Movie Collection (SRP $100) which will include Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Copy versions of all three Toy Story films. Once again, the Toy Story 3 DVD will include the Day & Night animated short, 5 featurettes (Toys!, Paths to Pixar: Editorial, The Gang's All Here, Buzz Lightyear Mission Logs: The Science of Adventure and A Toy's Eye View: Creating a Whole New Land) and 3 Studio Stories shorts (Where's Gordon?, Cereal Bar and Clean Start). To this, the Blu-ray will add a Cine-Explore commentary/viewing mode (with director Lee Unkrich and producer Darla K. Anderson), a Beyond the Toybox alternate commentary track (with story supervisor Jason Katz, supervising technical director Guido Quaroni, production designer Bob Pauley and supervising animators Bobby Podesta and Michael Venturini), the Toy Story Trivia Dash game and 7 more featurettes (Beginnings: Setting a Story in Motion, Bonnie's Playtime: A Story Roundtable, Roundin' Up a Western Opening, Life of a Shot, Goodbye Andy, Accidental Toymakers and The Making of Day & Night). Audio on the Blu-ray will be 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. Here's a look at the packaging for the Ultimate Toy Box 3-Movie Collection..

WHAT!!! now I wish I didn't buy #1 and #2 on blu-ray when they came out. Although I did get them for about $18 total and 2 movie tickets...

Mine were about the same amount of money plus the two movie tickets, and if it wasn't for the movie tickets, I probably would have waited on the three-pack.

Regardless, unless there's some bonuses that come with this one that don't come across the three separate movies, there's no reason to pick this one up.

hmmm, I didn't think it, let alone 10-discs!! If anything I would have expected a sheathed triple-pack like Spiderman or Resident Evil..

This is kind of crazy, and definitely along the lines of double-dipping. Disney knows that probably 75% of the population got the first 2 on BD when they had the crazy sale and they know we want the 3rd. So, we'll buy the 3rd as a single b/c we don't want to pay a sh*t-ton of money when it drops, then when this 3-pack goes on sale for $40, we'll buy that too! Damn you Disney, damn you!
10 discs?!!?! What in the world is on those 10 discs?!
Toy Story 1 on Bluray is 3 discs.
Toy Story 2 on Bluray is 3 discs.
Toy Story 3 on Bluray is 4 discs.

3+3+4=10 discs

I think all they are doing is bundling the current Bluray versions into one package. I hope I am wrong though, cause I don't own any of em on Blu and was waiting for a set like this.
I'm in the same boat so I find it quite hard to be pissed at Disney since they basically paid me to take them.

The tough part will be scoring such a sweet deal on the 3rd one.
For the price I got the first two Toy Story movies, I don't mind this at all. If it becomes worth it to own, I will seek out a deal on the trilogy.
This. I paid like $15-20 for both Blus and two movie tickets I think so I'm not going to complain.
10 discs?!!?! What in the world is on those 10 discs?!
My guess is one disk for the movie, one for the digital copy, and one for bonus crap per movie so thats 9. One extra disk of Bonus stuff that im guessing will only be with this trilogy.

Based on what Disney has been doing lately with their releases i think its gonna be...

Disc 1-Toy Story 1 BR
Disc 2-Toy Story 1 SD-DVD
Disc 3-Digital Copy

Disc 4-Toy Story 2 BR
Disc 5-Toy Story 2 SD-DVD
Disc 6-Digital Copy

Disc 7-Toy Story 3 BR
Disc 8-Toy Story 3 SD-DVD
Disc 9-Digital Copy

Disc 10 possibly everything ported from the "toy box" from 2000 and a few new things.

Oh I wait for the day the quad layer BR discs are released..it would be nice to have all movies on 1 disc :)
10 discs?!!?! What in the world is on those 10 discs?!
(4 BDs, 6 DVDs)

So the three movies on blu, most likely a special features disc for either TS3 or some other things added, three DVDs are DVD versions of the movies, and three DVDs are the digital copies.

Edit: Nevermind, the 10th disc (aka the fourth blu ray) is a special features disc that is included on the normal blu ray version of the 3rd movie.

TS1 is 2 discs and TS2 is 2 discs, according to Amazon. One BR and one DVD with the DC on the DVD disc. That's four discs across those two.

TS3 is four discs, two BR and two DVD. One DVD is the movie and the other is probably the DC with extras. The extras are in HD on the 2nd BR disc.

Makes me wonder what's in the other two discs that would add up to 10, unless Disney is doing something different for this combined three movie release.

Unless.... with another trend of SD-DVD/DC's on one disc, it could open up the possibilities of even MORE special features. I think pixar/Disney have something really big in store for us on this one. ...perhaps the 3-d releases of each movie? I know they released T1/T2 in theaters in 3d for a limited time, never saw T3 in 3-d... Given the push for 3d BR/3d TV's I would not be surprised and it would be a great way to show off the technology, even though most of us are not into 3d tv or can afford it.

The could cut down on the BS by eliminating the DVD copy. What the hell is that for anyways? Who needs 3 different copies of a movie?

You have a point, however not everyone is on the BR Bandwagon. Despite sales, BR is still more expensive than SD-DVDs. It will be at least another year , a year and a half before BR really sticks with people. I think it's great to have a BR/DVD pack on br movie releases.

Sweet. I held off on buying the first two to wait for the inevitable boxed set.

I don't mind getting DVD copies. None of my friends or family members have BR players yet, so at least I have a DVD they can borrow etc.

Won't ever happen. Studios have said this before. Customers feel cheated if all content is on a single disc.

Wait what? Not to start an argument, but BR has a strong possibility of growing beyond what it can do now. Honestly I would LOVE to see a season of a tv series (in HD) on 1 br disc (quad layer or bigger). Technically the format can support such large capacity (I think they got it around 200gb last I read). So yes, if the movies are encoded properly, all 3 films can be on one disc. I've heard that 3-d movies require more data that it's 2d counterpart so that can be on another disc.

I honestly would not be cheated if everything was on one disc. I think it would make things easier for the consumers. So don't say it "won't happen", when it WILL happen.

wait. I'm pretty sure the Toy Story 3 combo pack has TWO blu-ray discs (one movie, one special features), the DVD, and the digital copy.

SO. The trilogy SHOULD include:

Toy Story 1 Blu-Ray

Toy Story 2 Blu-Ray
Toy Story 2 DVD
Toy Story 2 Digital Copy

Toy Story 3 Blu-Ray Movie
Toy Story 3 Blu-Ray Special Features
Toy Story 3 DVD
Toy Story 3 Digital Copy

= 10 Discs.

Since I'm stuck at work at the time I'm posting this, I'm sure someone at home can crack open their copy and see if there's 3 discs or two in TS1 or TS2.

I'm just going on what Amazon has posted for the number of discs, right or wrong.

theres 2 each. 1 dvd copy and 1 blu ray

oh...and wouldn't it just be a slap in the face if we get a nice big box set for the three movies.....then 5 years from now toy story 4 comes out............fuck!

It's all about the kids. Kind of hard to take a blu-ray on a road trip and most ppl are not going to want to have to buy 2 separate copies of the movie.

I feel the same way about digital copies that you do dvds. But I know that there is a group out there who uses them. I made out pretty well selling 4-5 Disney dc's on ebay a cpl of months ago.

Regardless though, it's kinda hard to complain about the number of discs being offered when there have been various discounts(coupons,pre-order bonuses, etc) being offered on nearly every Disney title being released. They actually put alot of these other studios to shame with what they offer compared to some of the bare-to-near bare bones releases other studios have been cashing in on.

As far as the trilogy release, I'm going to hold off since I already have the first two. Plus I am currently debating on whether to keep my Amazon PO w/ the $10 off deal or getting the Target exclusive w/ the Buzzlightyear toy.

That's true.... considering that not every car/mini van has a blu ray player in them (what would be the point?) and has a SD-DVD player instead (if installed)...the digital copy is nice for those who own IPODs...but not everyone has an ipod nor a laptop to chug around.

while we're on it, I'm taking all my BD's with digital copies and putting them in WMV format on my notebook. Already came across 5 that are expired :bomb:

Does anyone know why they give you a huge 1+ GB file for the PC OS which works fine, then a smaller portable file? I've tried putting that smaller file on like my WinMo phone and it doesn't play. How can I have license rights on these small portable devices that can handle WMV??

For those wondering, the current Blu-Ray releases of TS1 & TS2 contain 2 discs each, one Blu-Ray and one DVD. They did not include digital copies; if they had, these would be on a third disc. None of the Disney releases that I have purchased include the digital copy on the same DVD as the DVD version of the movie. I believe that this is a "keep it simple stupid" action on their part, to make sure no idiot consumers get confused.

Thus, since the box set IS going to include digital copies, it will be 3 discs each for TS1 & TS2, compared to the 2 discs for the current releases with no digital copy included.

Anyone remember this ad from a few years back?

"Buy the Saw trilogy, get a ticket to see Saw IV!"

are you kidding, they will. and it will be like the people who bought the toy box and thought it was the ultimate collection.

They are DVD / Bluray only. There is no Digital copy... which is why people are specifically counting the D/C as a third disc

I am honestly getting tired of these digital copies with the DRM shit on them making it almost impossible to get them to copy to anything outside of an IPOD... This is why I prefer the DVD copy of the movie to be included with the BR as it is easier for me to back up, convert and install on my zune.

agreed, not being able to copy it off of the computer you put it on is ridiculous, i want it on my netbook.
Bingo. I don't really care if they include the DVD or not for my movies. But I won't buy kids movies unless they include both versions or the BRs are uber-cheap.

I am going to wait until the final specs come out to see if I will bite on this 10 disc edition... It's cheaper than I thought it would be but still a bit pricey ...unless there is a 10 dollar off coupon down the line close to release.

I was one of the super coupon stackers on that deal and TRU let me walk out of the store with both copies for 4.xx total. Best movie deal ever with the two tickets I got with them.

I still think the digital copy discs are a waste of discs because they are still a pain in the ass to deal with and the disc could be used for some other features instead :(

I cannot stand non-standard packaging, so I'm glad I got the first two TS movies already (for $8, in true CAG style), and I have TS3 coming from Amazon for about $14. Definitely will NOT be re-buying. I care not for extras, either, I just want to watch the movies...

I will say, when TOY STORY 1 & 2 came out on DVD, I likewise got a CAG deal on them instead of spending on the Toy Box ... but as my appreciation for Pixar grew, I regretted not having the Toy Box special features disc. I'm glad the 4-disc TS3 BR combines with the other two BRs to give you the equivalent experience, and I hope the 2nd disc on TS3 is as good as the Toy Box was supposed to have been.

If you zoom in the picture on Amazon for the Toy Story Trilogy, you can pretty clearly see the discs. Those three gold-ish discs in the background are definitely digital copy discs, they have the "Disney File" logo on them. So yeah, this is pretty much definitely just the individual releases packaged together, with the digital copy discs added.

Personally, I'll stick to my regular, standard packaging copies.

On a side note, WTF is up with the Toy Story 3 blu-ray not being 3D? It would have been a day one purchase for me if it was, but now I'm not so sure because I don't want the double-dip.

From what I have read in the past the first Disney 3D movie will be Disney's A Christmas Carol, which will be released 2 weeks after Toy Story 3.

Not sure why they picked that movie...I defiantly would have picked Toy Story 3 to be the first.
