Transformers Movie - DVD & HD DVD Sales Break Records
This news doesn't impact me since I'm not going to choose an HD format until one completely wins, but I'm sure this impacts a good # of you.

Transformers goes HD-DVD only.
HOLY ShIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds great for all those people who have the money for a HDTV and an HD-DVD Player, but for those who haven't had the money and are waiting for major price drops in HD TV TV's and HD/BR Players we are SOL. Current numbers are saying that BR will win the format war.. Hybrids are still too expensive.

Now, if enough people complain (like me), we might get a hybrid HD/DVD flipper disc. Now that I will buy :)

but for now... I am one sad Monkey

also just read on coming soon, movies like FF:ROTSS and LFODH is going to be on BR Format ONLY!! Oh fuck... And here I was holding out for a 4 box Die Hard Set :(

wait I don't see in the article where it said DVD and HD-DVD... Just HD-DVD format exclusive.

sorry but I am really tired right now.

hmmm... this might force me to get the cheap HD 360 drive and hack it so it will work for my pc.

wonder if my p4-3ghz (single core mind you) is still good enough to run high def movies?

It doesn't say...but the article is merely indicating that Paramount choose HD DVD over Blu-Ray for its High Defs releases. I guarantee you, that you'll see it on DVD as well, same goes for Die Hard: LFOTH and FF2

And yes you can use it on your PC, driver required:

there may be other drivers.

EDIT: From the wiki:
The Xbox 360's add-on HD DVD drive can also be used with a desktop/laptop PC running Windows XP or Windows Vista. Although PC use is not officially supported, third-party player software (such as CyberLink PowerDVD Ultra, WinDVD 8, or Nero HD DVD Plug-in) can successfully play HD DVD movies using the add-on drive. A number of users buy the Xbox drive to use exclusively with their PCs because of the cheap price when compared to HD DVD drives made for PCs. For best experience, HD DVD player software requires a modern PC, with a DirectX 9 graphics adapter and dual-core or fast CPU. If the video is output to a DVI/HDMI port, then both the display and graphics processing unit must be HDCP-compliant.

Seriously WTF?!?!?! Just cause Paramount is leaning towards one format?!?!?!

Since when has a format affected a director?!?!? They got paid already to make the movie so who cares where it ends up as long as everyone sees their work!
I just read that. Seriously. Bay loses major points (even though he didn't have many points to lose). All that bullshit about "How he was born to make this movie" are just utter lies if he actually doesn't make TF 2. What a bitch.

unless he has some sort of investment with BR. Guess we won't see TF2 for another 5 years... usually when directors get bitchy with studios, expect a sequel to take forever to be made. :(

That's actually the first thing that popped into my head...I was like, I wonder how much Bay has invested into BR companies/assets?

I wouldn't mind if they got another director. Unfortunately, there is no better action director than Bay. None. About 90% of regularly working directors in Hollywood are better than Bay in general, but no one can hold a candle to his action-directing. If they did find another director, hopefully he can save us from some of that god awful acting...or decide to cut out some of the shittiest lines in movie history.

"50 years from now, don't you want to say you had the nerve to get in the car"

WTF is that?! Horrible.

Wait...so that's actually him posting? WTF?!?! If so, what's the current and projected BR market look like? So you don't make the movie, lose out on revenue from ticket sales (on what will undoubtedly be a chart-topper), not to mention the eventual DVD and HD-DVD releases that will follow. All for what? Less than a million users who won't be able to buy it for their chosen HD format? Yup, that makes plenty of sense.

OH PLEASE.........

What's going to happen if MS decides to pull a fast one and put a HD Player inside of the 360 to tip the balance in later revisions to the system? shit this HD war is starting to get really ugly.
.....

I think you quoted the wrong guy.
oops

I feel like going to see it again this afternoon.

Michael Bay is acting like a prissy diva...his job is to direct film, not direct companines on how to sell merchandise. Now I hope that they get a new director for the sequel...they have the models of the first and the same cast...I'm sure that they could find someone to do it as good if not better...maybe they should contact The Wachowski Brothers :D

fixed!!

remember one flipped sides.

I can't think of anyone who could direct big robots kicking the shit out each other.

oh god please no Ang Lee (the Hulk)

http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=6233

Early Tuesday morning, Michael Bay posted on his official website that Paramount/DreamWorks' decision to exclusively support HD DVD and not Blu-ray meant he would not be coming back for Transformers 2. Now, he's taking it all back. Here's his new post:

Last night at dinner I was having dinner with three Blu-Ray owners, they were pissed about no Transformers Blu-Ray and I drank the kool aid hook line and sinker. So at 1:30 in the morning I posted - nothing good ever comes out of early am posts mind you - I over reacted. I heard where Paramount is coming from and the future of HD and players that will be close to the $200 mark which is the magic number. I like what I heard.

As a director, I'm all about people seeing films in the best quality possible, and I saw and heard firsthand people upset about a corporate decision.

So today I saw 300 on HD-DVD, it rocks!

So I think I might be back on to do Transformers 2!

Michael Bay

YOUR DAMN RIGHT YOU OVER REACTED!!!

just say it damn it, you invested millions in BR and your pissed that your movie isn't coming to BR so you can get an extra cut!!!

i just loved it and LOL'ed when he said "I just saw 300 on HD-DVD and it rocks!"

He knows he just pissed off a lot people by saying no to TF2 because of HD-DVD, so instead he makes up excuses and wears his "I LOVE HD-DVD" Shirt. what a fuck tard.
Has anyone heard of this being re-released later this month in IMAX with additional footage?
dude I almost forgot!!! No new information yet...just keep checking comingsoon.net.. Meanwhile they JUST added it back to the theaters for like 4-5 showings a DAY... you think it would be gone by now, but nope, still making money!

ah ha

http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=6263

THE SCORE IS COMING OCTOBER 9th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only 3 days BEFORE MY B-DAY!!!!!!!!! WOOOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

that means the dvd should be announced any time now..
Has anyone heard of this being re-released later this month in IMAX with additional footage?
What!?

EDIT: September 21st...doesn't say anything about additional footage though:
imax.jpg

it would be * nice * to have additional footage, but I heard it's mega expensive to have anything shown in IMAX over 2 hrs...but then how much money did this movie make? :)

Shit, this movie comes out the same day that RE:E comes out....

hmm

seeing a movie about giant robots kicking each other asses on an 80 foot tall screen OR seeing a shitty zombie movie based on a popular survival horror series...

tough choice huh?

btw, LinkinPrime, I miss your Barrcade logo :(
btw, LinkinPrime, I miss your Barrcade logo :(
I still got it...I'll re-use it again some time...maybe in time for the Imax release or the DVD.

Here's some more details thanks to a great CAG! ;)

Leaving little room for prebooking, but giving it a huge amount of pre-holiday shelf life, DreamWorks and Paramount Home Entertainment have announced an Oct. 16 street date for the DVD and HD DVD releases of Transformers.

Transformers was a box office smash, pulling in $650 million worldwide to date, with executive producer Steven Spielberg and director Michael Bay wowing audiences with a special effects-laden tale of transforming giant robots from another planet.

The release slate has single ($29.99) and two-disc ($39.99) options for DVD, and the $39.99 HD DVD will be a two-disc special-edition release. The two-disc special-edition DVD includes a commentary by director Michael Bay, two documentaries — one for the human actors and another for the robots — early sketches of the robots, and an in-depth featurette about the planning and creation of one of the scenes. The single-disc will only include the commentary.

The HD DVD will also include an on-screen menu called “Intelligence Mode” where information about robots, weapons, characters and more is revealed during the movie. A GPS locator with coordinates also will be included, and other Web-enabled features include a heads-up display allowing text commentary while the film runs, additional details about individual robots in a “Tech Inspector” feature, and more special features to be added after street date.

Paramount will support the marketing of the release with TV, radio, print and online ads. It will also utilize a customized message offer from Optimus Prime that people can send to friends from a phone or e-mail, displays in nearly every store selling the discs, and promotions with both Chevrolet and Hostess. Chevy will offer three customized Camaros styled after the character Bumblebee, via a sweepstakes. Hostess will have 17 million Transformers-themed packages in stores, and will offer an instant-win game for a 50” plasma television and home entertainment system, portable DVD players and more.
