Transformers Movie - DVD & HD DVD Sales Break Records

God damn it. My IMAX won't be playing it right away. I was hoping to go for my birthday party. :( Oh well.

Not surprising. They never get the big studio movie releases right away.
BTW Transformers is just $3 million away from surpassing LotR: Fellowship of the Ring for top 20 gross for US domestic movies of all time.
holy shit?!?! are you fucking kidding me? I never saw the LOTR Trilogy (mainly because of the overrated hype), but man if it's only 3 million away, do you know that can be made up in a week with the IMAX showings?

I would love this one movie to beat out the Harry Potter series... that juggernaut needs to fall on it's ass sometime and make room for something better.

Well, it's only 3 million away from topping just Fellowship of the Ring, but the thing is, LOTR actually increased in popularity with each release (Two Towers made $341 mil, and Return of the King made $377 mil). So, it'll only have topped the lowest-grossing LOTR movie.

Wait, wha? You mean, one movie beat out a series that has made 4.5 billion dollars worldwide (HP isnow the highest-grossing movie franchise ever, beating even Star Wars, and they still have 2 more movies to make)? Or did I read that wrong?

IMAX Poster.... so so..

TF_imax.JPG

i wonder if I should order tickets or just go up to the ticket booth and get them....

hmm..

14 dollars for parking BEFORE 4pm...oUCH

The movie was good the second time I saw it, but still.....if Optimus and the Autobots are so concerned with human casualties. Then why the fuck do they take the battle to the middle of a major metropolitan area?? I mean, I didn't like the mostly generic character designs. The only character I thought was pretty close to the original was Optimus Prime.

Then again, at times, this movie seemed like it was all about random and blatant product placement moreso than anything else. If you've ever seen the movie Josie & The Pussycats, you will understand what I'm talking about here, though the product placement wasn't that intentionally blatant in this movie. Although, seeing the Chevy logo pop up center screen a bunch of times comes close imo.

Ya know, I think that complaining about the product placement in the Transformers movie is pretty silly, considering that really, the entire original animated series was basically a huge, elaborate, extended advertisement for the toys.

true, but the animated series did it in a light way so you could not see it in your face. Back then I didn't tell my parents, oh I want those Headmasters!!! I only got the cool transformers back then. I meant who wanted Red Alert? The paranoid fire chief's car?

Anyways to be honest with you, if Bay didn't get sponsors for the movie, it might have gone over budget with the amount of effects involved.

Trust me, this movie did not make me go out and buy a GMC truck, a yellow camero, a 360, or join the military.

I really can't wait til the soundtrack comes out a week BEFORE the movie hits DVD.

So...................did anyone see the IMAX Version to tell what's been added?!?!?

or did most of us see that flaming shit called Resident Evil today?

so 3 day have passed since the IMAX release.... can't find a single damn posting from anyone saying what has been added.
It's not even at my IMAX. :whistle2:(
HMM My local imax is showing it at 5pm tonight... There might be enough time to go see it and get free parking since it's after 4pm (before 4pm its 12 bucks parking :O )

It probably won't be in my IMAX for at least a month and a half, considering their track record regarding how long it usually takes them to get the big studio movies playing.

Saw it at IMAX tonight. The handful of new scenes and scene extensions contributed nothing to the movie (that is to say, there wasn't any more ass-kicking robot action). Just a few extra "jokes" among the human characters. Feh...

Still cool seeing it on the (really) big screen though.
looks like 2009 is going to be the summer of the bots wars!
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=37702

who will win this round? The Heroic Autobots or the Evil Terminators?
That Terminator 4 news makes me really nervous. The producer of that GOD-AWFUL "Sarah Connor Chronicles" show is going to be involved, so that's already casting it in a bad light, for me.

I'm most looking forward to the Robotech movie that Tobey Maguire is so gung-ho about, now.

So people won't have to click through, here's that Transformers vid ITDEFX is referring to:

It's like geriatric Transformers with how slow they have to get up and down to transform. Very ingenious, though.

THANKS!

damn, it must take a real engineer to figure out how to build a humanoid transformer costume and make it functional!

Ok, I just came back from my IMAX Showing... Allnatural is correct...nothing *Major*.

From what I recalled

-Sam picking up Miles in his car before going to the park and Miles saying it's "Yellow".

-After Sam is harassed by that shitty cop, he tells him and his father to come with him to see one of those "this is your brain on drugs" video and gives the kid a few Don't do drugs bumper sticker.

-That Sector 7 guy using some eye scanning device to tell that Sam is lying just before he shows him his badge. Also added was a few lines about Mikaela being hot. That was weird.. :|

-That army guy going to a pawn shop to get some radios and is confronted by this fat lady before the major city battle.

-When the army guys and the S7 guys are walking outside of the Hoover dam, the S7 guy says "Ever heard of Area 51?...well this is Area 50!".

-The sector 7 guy saying that pretty much all the presidents have been to where the cube is all the way back to Hoover. He also added that he likes to go into that room to meditate. (hmm)

Nothing new or changed from what the transformers said... Barricade was last scene was on the highway towards the end (when Bonecrusher and Prime go at it)and that was it. Nothing added to the ending credits (those scenes are the same)

You would think they would fix Barricade's Missing in Action status or even changing the subtitle for Devistator's name to Brawl.

Other than that, it's nothing that needs to be on the DVD and the movie flowed fine without those scenes. Another few weeks, CAN'T WAIT!! :)
FYI: Best Buy will have a collectors set with 2 Exclusive Robot Heroes:

HOLY SHIT!!!

I was just at best buy. They said get 5 dollars off the CD soundtrack or movie with 5 dollars pre order.

I dunno, that prequel dvd from walmart with the movie seems more tempting than this.

I bet that the prequel DVD is going to be images of the Prequel comic, with Cullen as the Narrator...which is still tempting.

from what I read, it will have the guy who did the voice of BB in the movie and Cullen. Please , oh please don't jinx it..
To be clear, if I preorder through this link, I'll get the Standard DVD 2 disk set, 2 robot heroes, AND the litho?
I don't think so, I believe that the Litho will be a B&M exclusive...I haven't found any concrete details...I'd say check with your local Best Buy.

ah ha, finally we get the details about the exclusives...

http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=6376

BB get's the shitty little toys

Target get that transforming DVD box

and CC gets

a card with 15 mins of online exclusive stuff... but that will probably show up on youtube and probably be fluff.

Walmart looks like the better deal with that bonus dvd of the prequel back story featuring prime and bb.

My b-day is on the 12th...

The movie comes out on the 16th...

I have to work on the 16th but walmart opens up at 6am. I have to be on the road to work by 7:00am to make it on time.

So if I wake up late, I will tell my gf who has to work at 1:30pm to pick it up for me. However I know people will do what you are doing, collecting the same dvd for just the package.

That transforming packaging looks fragile... lets really hope that prequel dvd isn't 15 mins only :(

btw- can you edit the Original Post in the front to include the packaging details and the IMAX added scenes I mentioned?
Updated ;)
thx

damn every other day I am seeing a commercial promoting the dvd. This thing is going to be a mega seller!

from wiki

Transformers will be released on Region 1 territories on October 16, 2007, on standard and HD DVD formats. The standard DVD will have single disc and two disc editions. Michael Bay will contribute an audio commentary. The Wal-Mart edition of the DVD will be in a tin case with the same cover as the 2-disc and includes an animated version of the prequel comic book, with Peter Cullen reprising the role of Optimus Prime. [ Region 2 will get the DVD sets on the December 3. Region 4 will get the DVD on November 1 with a special edition DVD set containing a transforming DVD box being exclusive to Australian DVD store EzyDVD.

so basically the exclusive region 4 dvd the Australian stores will get, will NOT be exclusive to them, but to TARGET over here :)

pic of the Walmart exclusive. The extra dvd will be called: Transformers: Beginnings

I have a feeling that the Walmart release is the single DVD release with the prequel. Which is kinda lame. Probably just gonna go with the standard $22.99 2-disc edition since the others seem to cost extra for the extras (or at least Best Buy was).

yea that's what it's looking to be :(

It's going to be expensive getting the Walmart release, Target release and the BB two disc normal looking (white) set :(

argh

forgot to mention...

Best buy is having a pre-order. 5 dollars down gets you 5 dollars off the score or the album release. meh.

So I'm guessing the Lithograph is not for US locations?
So I'm guessing the Lithograph is not for US locations?
when I went in today to ask about that Lithograph, they could NOT find any information about this :( Not even on the web site.

The lithograph is Canada-only, according to what I've heard. Sorry, folks.

The Target thing is honestly just a little silly for me, and the BB figurines aren't worth the extra money, to me. I really want that prequel dvd thing, but it does really suck that it's the single disc version (and yes, it's obviously going to be the single-disc version; they aren't going to sell a pack containing BOTH the 2-disc special edition AND the prequel dvd, for LESS than they're charging for the 2-disc SE alone. That's common sense, folks). It just damned well better be the widescreen version included in that set, or I'll pass and just go for the regular 2-disc SE.

Then again, maybe I'll go for the regular 2-disc SE anyways, and try to nab the Beginnings DVD off eBay or something.

If I do go for the Wal-mart version with the prequel, it would be the first thing I have ever purchased at Wal-mart in my entire life. Bleh.

Also, ITDEFX: What makes you think that the Wal-mart release is in a tin? I don't see that info anywhere...

Yeah, that wiki article is the ONLY place I see that mentions it being a "tin," and the cited source (a post from the editor at IDW comics) describes the Wal-mart edition, but nowhere does he say anything about a tin. And I can't find any other source calling it a tin. I'm thinking someone had a brainfart when they were editing that wiki article.
