Transformers Movie - DVD & HD DVD Sales Break Records

ok, I just got back from getting the walmart release...

it is NOT a tin. Wiki was wrong (again). The Beginnings extra dvd features the voices of Cullen and Welker. However you only hear them for the first 2-3 minutes and that's it. It was a nice animated comic dvd. Overall a nice collectible. No main menu, or extra features (except in spanish). It auto stops at the end of the dvd so no loops ... just plain lazy for a design.

picked up 3 TF posters and will be hanging them in my room when I get back from work!

Here's the numbers:
According to a just-issued press release from Paramount, the HD DVD edition of 'Transformers' sold over 100,000 units in its first day of release, and went on to sell an additional 90,000 units over next six days, making it the fastest and best-selling week one release on either high definition format, as well as the best selling HD DVD ever.

The standard-def version of 'Transformers' also made news, moving over 8.3 million units in its first week, and 4.5 million copies on day one, a new record for the year 2007.

well duh... it's people like US who went out and bought lets see, the target transforming edition, the walmart prequel edition, the blockbuster edition, the FYE edition and so on. So people bought at a minimum 2 copies of the movie. I bought 3, the walmart edition just for the prequel video(gave the movie only to my brother), the 2 disc best buy release (no litho for me :( ) and the 2 disc transforming edition with with the transforming gift card :)

but still all is good. If they really get there act together and bring back the original (NON repaint) G1 figures for a cheap price, the toys will outsell star wars in no time.

I'm thinking that the average consumer probably just bought one...most people aren't crazy collectors like many of us are. :)
go hd!
Indeed. I have absolutely no doubt that Transformers will far and away end up as the best-selling HD movie, HD-DVD or Blu-ray, so far.

of course I would have gone HD, however don't have a HDTV, nor HDDVD player... watching it with the 360 (if I bought the hddvd drive this week) on a 22 inch monitor (my pc's monitor) doesn't do justice as for those who have 32 inch or higher hdtvs :(

here's hoping to a good HD DVD/ HDTV deal this black friday!

Might as well hop in on the Best Buy deal, Heroes S1 and now...2 extra HD DVD's plus the 5 HD DVD's via mail in make it an irresistable deal to pass up.

the 5 HD DVD's they offer are meh... and the promo is still going on til early next year. Heroes, they can keep that as I am not into that show... I rather them give me the transformers HDDVD or Smallville HDDVD or even star trek season 1 on HDDVD. Im not in a rush, unless they let me use that 10% off coupon on the 360 drive... but then again, later models of the 360 are suppose to have it built in.

Like I said, its really not worth it unless I have a dedicated HDDVD/HDTV (40 inches or bigger) for this movie. The SD version looks just as good.

I wonder how many of those sales were people buying copies on release day for half price at Circuit City. I read of multiple people buying 8-10 copies each at half price to resell. Thanks Fatwallet and Slickdeals assholes.

half price?!?!
half price?!?!
There was a CC glitch and all HD DVD titles were B1G1 free, but once the deal was applied it made each HD DVD title half off. I got Transformers and other HD DVD titles (8 total) for under $15 each.

The man speaks the truth. When I went to CC that day, nearly every single person looking through the BR/HD section knew of the deal, and nearly all HD shoppers had transformers in their hands. I read of assholes on FW and SD buying 4-10 copies at a time to resell because it was half price.

I myself picked up 11 Blu-rays during the deal and couldn't be happier. I ended up getting the widescreen 2 disc transformers dvd at Moviestop, as a part of their "Trade 4 shitty movies for 1 new shiny movie" deal.

so...did anyone pick up the score?

It is well done... now that we have made the dvd a big hit... now it's time to make the original motion picture score a big hit as well so they can release the full 2 disc score sometime soon. It should be out NOW at your local best buy. However my best buy can't seem to find it in their backroom :whistle2:\

Now that would have been a nice bonus feature for the HDDVD version... Music only track and or Sound Effect only track...

lolz

anyways.... anyone else hear Bay's commentary track on the dvd? it was informative. Just loved how he said "I got the number to the Pentagon!" smirking every other director who has tried to get help from the US military to shoot their movies. Also loved how he said Die Hard (Live free or die hard) used a CG version of the F-22...while he (bay) used the real thing...well goof on his part as the plane featured in Die Hard was an f-35 VTOL not an F-22.

well I saw some of the HD-DVD disc 2 features. The tech spec is pretty cool. The GPS nav/tech info on the main movie is awesome.

It has some neat features that can be downloaded but it takes forever to do so :|

I think I somehow caused my 360 to lock up some how during the movie with some of these features enabled. Yea I know this stuff wasn't ment for the 360 player, but fun to try out nevertheless.

the hd-dvd video looks just about the same as the standard def video :| This is watching it via the VGA input on my LCD monitor (gateway 22incher), since I don't have HDMI or Component tvs or HDTV for that matter.

The plane in Die Hard looked real
The plane in Die Hard looked real
I seriously doubt the military nor the movie studio would authorize such a dangerous maneuver for that craft at not only the cost of the pilot's life, but cost of the plane as well , which is millions of dollars. Those scenes must have cost what 20k to do in CGI? Cheaper, safer, better :)

That's not normal. The 360 HD DVD drive, like all HD DVD players, is fully compatible with all HD DVD Advanced Content features (another advantage of HD DVD: Unlike BD, all HD-DVD players can play all HD DVDs).

If you're having problems with Transformers, give this a try:

hmm thanks for the advice!!!

I tried the HUD feature again last night after I ran thru TF with the other pop up features and that ran fine, however the HUD one, as soon as I hit NEXT on my remote, bam, total lock up :( I will do this later tonight and see if that fixes it. Glad to see other people are having the same problem and it's not limited to my drive/disc.

I'm never aware of movies in production or going to be released unless I run into it on accident, like right now.

I don't follow the movie industry really

And of course the movie won various VEFX awards.
WTF!? Michael Bay is not a writer...well not according to his Wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Bay#Biography
So that's really strange...either he just wrote a rough rough rough draft a concept of what he expects the sequel should be...I seriously doubt that the studios would let him write the film alone, granted that the writers will be stepping in now, I'm sure most of his script will get scrapped, unless he's actually a talented writer.

Yea that was thinking when I saw this. He is probably going to submit his *script*, then his writers will take it, say "we will get back to you" and come back with something worth producing.
well they better atleast give us the Constructicons, merging or not.
Hell yeah, we better get at least 1 Gestalt/Combiner, I don't care who.

And they better make Voyager versions of all these combiners so it combines to become bigger than Fortress Maximus (biggest of all G1) or Predaking, the biggest of the G1 combiners (toy-wise).

Or even better, have 1 of the movie leader figs for the 2nd movie be the main piece aka the Torso/chest for a combiner, with voyagers for the legs and arms (and maybe even one for wings).
TRANSFORMERS 2 HAS BEEN WRITTEN 0.0
Hmmm, I wonder if it will be as much of a pile of garbage as the last one.

The best Transformers movie that will ever be made was the animated feature of the 80's, it will never be topped.
Especially not by crap like that Michael Bay effort, IMO.

See what was good about the 80's one was it actually had a lot of Transformers in it, instead of a bunch of wanky humans I could care less about.

I was just thinking about this when I saw the article on comingsoon.net the other day. Seeing how each bot was using a modern day version or their 80's counter part mode, construction trucks haven't changed much in the last few decades.

Its double dip time this September:
Transfrmrs-OPMsk_DVD_3D__scaled_300.jpg

From director Michael Bay and executive producer Steven Spielberg comes a thrilling battle between the heroic Autobots® and the evil Decepticons. When their epic struggle comes to Earth, all that stands between the Decepticons and ultimate power is a clue held by young Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf). Unaware that he is mankind’s last chance for survival, Sam and Bumblebee, his robot disguised as a car, are in a heart-pounding race against an enemy unlike anything anyone has seen before. It’s the incredible, breath-taking film spectacular that USA Today says “will appeal to the kid in all of us.”
