As frustrating as the "hunt" can be sometimes I still refuse to buy from re-sellers and gougers like BBTS and Ebay. At worst I'll buy it from ToysRUs or HasbroToyShop and pay the extra shipping, otherwise I'll just go without it. Places like BBTS and Ebay are the ones who are creating the problem in the first place with having to hunt for figures so buying from them only perpetuates the cycle.
Didn't realize this post was so long... sorry =/
I just paid $53.99 + $9 shipping for the entire Wave 2 and Wave 3 Generations figures at BBTS. Megatron, Soundwave, Red Alert and Darkmount. It ends up being $15.50 for each figure... that's $2 more per figure just counting cost + tax... that's not even counting gas. That is hardly gouging.
You can preorder the first Deluxe 2011 wave for $58 after shipping. That's $14 a figure. Again, not really gouging there, because you'll spend that extra $1 in gas just trying to get the figures.
BBTS gets cases of figures directly from the same places the B&M stores do so they aren't creating a problem like the Ebay resellers are. They are just another retailer, one like Target or Wal-Mart, who Hasbro is on good terms with because they gave them the Seacons set as an exclusive. The staff of BBTS isn't stalking the aisles of your local Wal-Mart or Target snatching shit up like Ebay sellers are and trying to make a profit on every single figure. In fact, they seem to get every figure before most other retailers even put the stuff out.
The only reason some figures are more expensive than others is because they are the only new figures in a case full of stuff they already have too many of. Blurr and Dirge are $35 to preorder without shipping, which is expensive, but then you realize the rest of Wave 4 is just more figures they already have too many of so they adjust the costs. So you pay higher for Dirge and Blurr because BBTS will probably eat the costs of yet more Megatron's and Soundwave's.
I mean, you can't damn BBTS and praise TRU.. that's kind of ridiculous. TRU is guilty of the same shit like raising the cost of their exclusives. Grimlock went from $60 to $70 and I've seen people say some TRU's even have it for $76 now. Their exclusive animated deluxes jumped from $13 to $15.. just because they were TRU exclusive.
If I passed on figures I couldn't find I might as well stop collecting since BBTS is the one of the only retailers to list this stuff up on their website. I never used to use them either (but got turned on through them by other collectors in my area) but now I'm glad they exist. Hasbro is planning on rolling out another wave of figures in November (the Cliffjumper wave along with the Jazz / Tracks wave) and my stores are still peg warming Wave 1?

that. When they couldn't get out Wave 2 through 4 I have no confidence they can get out Wave 5. No one is causing this problem in my stores except the stores themselves and when they do finally put shit out, other collectors ravage (ha!) the aisles because they are starved for new figures.
I know other TF fans in my area haven't found jack shit either after months of looking and are jumping on the BBTS ship. I'll pay extra to be guaranteed a figure then pump that money into gas and come home empty handed. I know other people who have problems (like Blandstalker) should look into BBTS and see if paying slightly extra is worth it compared to getting nothing.
HTS will be my first choice but unfortunately I get charged instantly from them when I preorder and they sell out of figures super quick.
