Here it is, the green tag thread for this year. I posted last years and decided it was probably time to start this years thread, so hopefully everything can stay in here. Anyway, on with the deal...

Starting July 3rd(started 2 weeks early) all green tag items will be 30% off. This will last for 4 weeks, then on August 14th they will be upped to 50% off and remain this way(date may be changed slightly). An additional drop will occur based on how good the stuff sells.

This year, they are actually ordering merchandise specifically for the green tag sale. Over 200 items are being ordered just for the sale. Besides that, there will be discontinued items and a few active items in the sale. Also, some green tag items from last year didn't drop to a penny. These items will be part of the sale(so instead of 90% off, you get 30% off now).

Monday July 4th - the big day. Stores get a list of what they have that will be on green tag. Stores can also look up every item thats part of the sale, so this is the day the list will most likely be out.

So it looks like there will be some good deals, but probably not as good as last year. I'm sure they'll make a few mistakes people will catch at the beginning(such as DDR being green tag for the first few days last year). Zon posted that his store got in some green tag games late last week, so its possible those may be part of this new deal(Attack of the Clones for GBA was one I think). Good luck everyone and lets hope this ends up being as great as last year.

Update 8/5 - The 50% markdown happens Sunday 8/14 definitely. Stores have started receiving the signs, so all those who were hoping it would happen then are in luck! More markdowns are still to be determined based on how good the stuff sells at 50%.

UPDATE 10/27 - THE GLITCH! Since everyone still can't seem to get the glitch correctly, here it is. Take 3 games you want for the Buy 2 get 1 free deal and make sure they are all exactly the same price. They cannot even be a penny different in price. Two of them must be green tag games and the third must be a regular price game. Make sure that the cashier rings the two green tag games first then the regular priced game. The system will give you both green tag games for half off and the regular priced game will be free. Here are two examples for those who still do not understand.

Transaction 1(this will ring correctly):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $14.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $0.00(regular priced game)
Total $29.98

Transaction 2(this does not ring correctly because you gave them to the cashier in the wrong order):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $0.00(green tag game)
Total $44.98

Transaction 3(this does not ring correctly either because you don't know how to buy 3 games that are the EXACT SAME PRICE):
PS2Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $29.95 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.93
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $0.00 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total $44.98

Update 2 - 10/27 - THERE IS STILL NO CONFIRMED DATE FOR MORE THAN 50% OFF. It is all rumors as of right now. According to corporate, bigger discounts will be based on sell through of the merchandise, which right now seems to be going along with plan. I wouldn't expect until the end of November or December at the earliest to get a bigger percantage off, but once again that is not confirmed and just speculation. It wasn't until after Christmas last year the 90% hit.

Special thanks to Zon and Benboxer for their contributions to the green tag sale info.

Gotta go with Zon on this one. I'd think me, Zon, or Ben woulda posted something by now if the list was out. Even in today's hot news update it said the same thing as yesterday that the list will be out next week. Hopefully sren9 posts what he says he has soon. Also, the r-zone green tag list might not be that great this year. According to a DM it's mostly for other parts of the store(makes sense, there isn't a whole lot in r-zone thats old like last years sale). The only list sent to stores so far was a list of 50 green tag items that are supposed to be displayed on Sunday to showcase the start of the sale, but not a single one was r-zone.

Exactly, it was all stuff for us to set on the stores regular race track. The sale for the R-Zone will be a small footnote. But I'm still hopeful of a few things.

Everyone should keep their hopes down on Metal Slug 4&5 and all the ATLUS games because I'd be extremely shocked (probably more like fall of chair shocked) to see them lowered in price...ever. (esp since Metal Slug 4&5 just came out not that long ago and it's still coming out for XBox later this year).

Thanks tubtub and Zon, I knew you'd come through as usual.

well good luck tomorrow everyone, I'm hoping that a list will be up tomorrow as our inventory system was down for most of today it's only fitting they were suppose to be updating it for the green tag sale (SIS was down for awhile today, I didn't check it myself but that's what I was told).

I open tomorrow so I have an hour to count the systems and scan some items...heh.

I'll be heading over as soon as my TRU opens (12 EST). I'll try to make a list of what I find, incase we still don't have a full official list.

None of the games were Green Tagged when I got there, but I picked up an R-Type Final at $9.99 and it rang up at $6.99, so I'm fairly positive that this is one of the Green Tag games that ring in at 30% discount.

Hey everyone i just got back from 3 toys r us's in long island NY (carle place, levitt town & douglaston) all had no games green tagged but i did some digging through and found some good ps 1 games (syphon filter 1 - 2 -3) we each 2.99 other then that i had the cashier check the prices on games like turok for ps 2 and i was only 30% off! When will this sale switch over to the 90% off sale that we all love?

I went to my local TRU, which still has the paper tags that you can grab and scan. Of all the games I scanned, only one rang in at 30% off... Catwoman for Xbox.
sweet. hell of a game. hope the one copy is still around monday :)

anyone try alien hominid yet?
I checked the GameCube one and it wasen't didn't dig around the PS2 game enough to see if they still had the PS2 version at my store

Here are afew I tried out that were 30% (I'm remembering this stuff from the top of my head so it may not be 100% accurate)

GBA
Mario Golf: Advance Tour
Metroid: Zero Mission
Metroid Fusion
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

Xbox
SVC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom

PS2
Guilty Gear Isuka

I'm missing afew others that I checked that were 30% off but I think I remembered all of the better ones I scaned that were 30% off and I didn't really scan anything exciting for the PS2 that was 30% off (I think Samurai Warriors was also 30% but I can't remember for sure)

also Metal Slug 5 & 6 and Digital Devil Saga weren't 30% off :(

I did also scan some GameCube games but non of the ones I tried came up 30% off and I only tried Feel the Magic: XY/XX for the NDS as I didn't think it was worth checking most of the games such as Wario Ware Touched as the chances of them being 30% off I'd think would be slim to non.

I stopped by the TRU is Lafayette Indiana while waiting for the CC to open and noticed these that were green tagged slips

Metal Slug 3
Mega Man Anniversary for the ps2
but there was only 1 slip for each of those
all the other green tagged slips seemed to be $20 games but they seemed to be quite a few games tagged
that is all i remeber because i had my 2 kids with me and they were in to everything

Gonna check my TRU on Tuesday...hopefully score somthing nice

I hope that's the price at my store too...every time I go in there I check out this game and contemplate buying it. I'll definitely get it for $7

Alright guys, I just spent like 2 hours at TRU scanning stuff. Here is stuff that was 30% off (I picked up all of these, prices listed are before 30% off):

SMT: Nocturne (woohoo!) - $50
Guilty Gear Isuka - $50
Ghosthunter - $20
Spy Fiction - $20
Metal Slug 3 XB - $40
Samurai Warriors Xtreme Legends - $30

Here is stuff that is most definitely NOT 30% off:

FF1+2 GBA
Metal Slug Advance
Golden Sun 2
Alien Hominid
Xenosaga 2
Samurai Western
Metal Slug 4+5
Suikoden IV
Mario Power Tennis
Donkey Konga 2
Baten Kaitos
Tron 2.0

They had some other games that were 30% off (Eye Toy Groove, Maximo, Catwoman Jampack 11, etc.) but it was all either crappy or stuff I had. I don't intend to keep the games I bought - I will plan on holding them for a price adjustment assuming they go down. If they don't, well, they're going back (maybe except for SMT). Does anyone know the exact TRU policy? I want to make sure if something does go to 50% off that when I return the game with my receipt I will get the full amount I originally paid for it.

Since its clearance, I do not think they will adjust if they increase the percentage off. Also, IIRC, the 50% off didnt start till late august, then 70% around thanksgiving, and 90% right after X-Mas. They might not even drop the prices further in the PM timeframe.
It rang up at the scanner for $21.00
Ahh so its $30 before the 30%. Hmm...I think I'll wait till I can get it sub $20 or just hope some sort of TRU coupon comes out soon.
rarebucky how are you sure that the games you have listed are definetly not 30% off?
He probably checked them at a price scanner I also tried Metal Slug Advance & Final Fantasy I & II at my store and they weren't 30% off
He probably checked them at a price scanner I also tried Metal Slug Advance & Final Fantasy I & II at my store and they weren't 30% off
Yup. As I said, I checked every single game with the scanner, so the list I typed above is correct as of today. Unless they go green tag soon...

I went to TRU today after finding nothing I really wanted at CC. They hadn't started tagging items, but they did have a list. Most of what some else mentioned was on that list. I picked up Legend of Dragoon. It was $15 before the 30% off. They had several copies of that and FFT.

nothing had a tag, and the guy there didn't even know there was a new sale, but I checked the following:

SMT: DDS - NOT ON SALE
SMT: Nocture - Green Tag
Megaman X7 - Green Tag
Megaman X8 - Green Tag
Nightshade - Green Tag
Contra (the newest one) - NOT ON SALE
DBZ Budokai 2 - NOT ON SALE

All games were for PS2

Hopefully I can pick up a few things tomorrow morning--I don't feel like going and scanning any games tonight, but I'll probably be there awhile tomorrow. My TRU is a dinosaur, and the employees are clueless, so I've been able to clean up in the past (spent over $700 on the last sale, most of it when it went to 70% off).

Well, since I already got my fill of the CC clearance, I decided it was time to come over and frequent this thread.

Hopefully someone will be able to find and post the full list tomorrow. I'm ready to spend some more money.

I thought the sale wasnt even supposed to start until next week?

anyway i hope SMT is on it, that would make my day, Metal Slug 3,4,5 wouldnt hurt either

One I have some interest in was there, but I felt it wasn't worth getting since I didn't like it too much when I rented it (only getting it for collection purpose). I'm checking our local TRU tomarrow, to see what I see. I remember they had a bunch of FFT, but I already own the game. I might consider getting a new copy of Legend of Dragoon, if they have another, since I bought mine used a while. I wanted to see if a few games I have interest in were green tagged, but I doubt it.

I know my TRU didn't have SMT: Nocturne, because I bought their very last copy during the buy two, get one free sale back in Oct. of last year. Glad I did because I liked it and got the soundtrack.

Kind of hard to get some stuff during these sales, since I was already able to get some stuff lower at Meijer, like Metal Slug 3.

Nocturne is ($35 after sale), Digital Devil Saga is not

I went to a local TRU the guy in R Zone didnt know anything... and Isuka/SMT werent on sale here. I didnt check FFT but if it is ill be picking it up tomorow..

They even raised prices... they had the RE4 Guide at 19.99 ... I was like No Freaking Way. I need that guide too :(

I did notice that some games check out less than their tags... Backyard Wrestling for the PS2 is taged at 19.99 but checked at 14.99

I think the CC deal will be better. Every game I wanted (and got) was 66% off of the selling price. Plus, I got a bunch of games to trade to GR.

Remember these games are based on what my store had in-stock. I was too lazy to look over the nearly 100 page list of junk (from this sale and last years sale). I did skim it but nothing really really interesting was on the list. (I skimmed the list and I think King Arthur for all systems was on there but that's all I remember right now).

Also remember, this is the initial list. There will be stuff added to this list. Most of the stuff you guys predicted to be on the list. Isn't.

Shin Megami Tensei for $35 isn't much of deal since I got it back with coupons and other nonsense, knocking it down to ~$20. If it makes it to 50% off I'd be surprised but don't count on it.

I'll post more as I remember them. This is quite accurate but all coming from my memory since I didn't want to bring the list home.

I don't know if this game has been posted yet but when I couldn't find shellshock: nam 67 for xbox at the 10 dollar circuit city sale I went to toysrus where they had one copy left marked for 19.99. I had them scan it just out of curiosity and it rang up at about 13 dollars. Not as good as getting it for 10 dollars at circuit city but if you can't find a copy there 3 dollars isnt a big deal.

oh well... i guess i have enough games on my DS currently to hold me over for a while. nothing insteresting in this sale (yet)

check the bottom of page 7 of this thread for the list of games in this sale (there will be others added, I couldn't remember all of them off the top of my head).
anyone know when the games will hit the 50% mark? a month or two?
That will be based on how well these games and other green tagged items sell...based on sales volume and other factors. It'll mostly be based on the other green tagged items because there is far more items outside the video game section that are in this sale. Nothing great though.

So the first post says July 17th, but some people are getting 30% prices now. Has the green tag sale started?
