Wii Shop Thread: ***FINAL FANTASY 3 IS OUT ON THE VC***
Is Puzzle Agent not out yet because it said it would be out this month in my Nintendo Power
Yeah, not sure what the deal is. I've been doing research trying to figure out where it is, and it seems that so far, it's only been released on PC/Mac. It's a cheap game, only $9.99. Still, I have nearly 3000 Wii Points on my console, and I was hoping to get Puzzle Agent through there.
Am I a bad person for buying Crystal monsters because I want to give it a try anyway?
Heh, you're not the only one. I bought some Nintendo Points on eBay last night. As soon as they arrive, I'm getting Crystal Monsters, that Castlevania clone, and Oregon Trail. :D
As for Puzzle Agent, it looks like Telltale is working on the iPad and Wiiware versions of the game. It looks like the Wiiware release will debut after the iPad. The game hasn't been submitted to Nintendo yet for approval. I think it'll be a while yet before Wiiware sees it.

Boo to this.

While I wait can anyone chime in on
FFIV After Years
Ace Attorney (any of the 3)

I got 4k points and was wondering everyone's thoughts on both :)

The first three Ace Attorney games are among my top ten favorite DS games. I believe they're only 1000 points each on Wiiware, which is an EXCELLENT price, especially since I believe the first Phoenix Wright game goes for a fair bit on the used market.

The problem with Ace on WiiWare is that you might not like it, and then you're just stuck with it. I thought the first Ace was OK, but had no desire to play any more and don't really have fond memories of the experience. Of course I'm in the minority on this, but still, it once again points out the glaring flaw in Nintendo's download services - no demos. Demos save you from buying games you won't like, but they also get you to buy games you might not have, and in the end the customer is happier and that can only lead to more sales. I just don't understand why Nintendo hasn't followed up on their brief demo experiment and started providing demos for all download games across the line. Meanwhile I'll continue to buy far more on the Xbox, even when I've got a ton of points just sitting there on the Wii. Sooo frustrating.

Final Fantasy IV the After Years is a good game, but just keep in mind to get the whole story you have to pay around $35.

Btw, I started playing crystal Monsters, and here are a few impressions.
Dear designers of this game, flash games on the ds are a bad idea, so please stop putting them on there (why do I think its a flash game? the Touch interface for almost EVERYTHING, and how the touch part is done). The monster catching system is pretty badly designed too, you tap a repeatedly to catch the stupid monsters, and even if you tap the a repeatedly you still only have a small chance to catch the monster. Add in that crystals you catch them in cost a lot of money compared to how much you seem to carry at a certain time, and it makes it feel as though catching monsters is a huge waste of time. Now, the controls, or lack thereof. Did a high schooler who had just started learning game programming program this game's controls? I'm not really sure how to describe the controls, I think its about the equivalent of the old adventure game on the Atari. I'm not joking, the controls are THAT unresponsive. Finally, there are the drawings. The characters look like they took a cross between Pokemon and yugioh art styles and gave them terrible haircuts. Then, there are the monsters, they just took the basic palettes of the pokemon and altered them a very small amount. Okay, I'm done.

This week, Europe got 2 WiiWare games, Dive: The Medes Islands Secret - WiiWare/1000 Points, and Family Pirate Party - WiiWare/500 Points.
Anyone gotten Dive? I was considering it. But maybe I should just get Endless Ocean: Blue World...
Similar themes, completely different gameplay. Blue World is the obvious winner. It is a [very] casual RPG with some neato SCUBA gameplay.

Dive is a sidescrolling game (like Ecco?) that happens to take place underwater.

Sorry, which game is considered to have "[very] casual RPG with some neato SCUBA gameplay"? It sounds like you could be talking about Blue Ocean, but you could still be referencing Dive...

I'm kind of interested in both.

I should play Dive later today, so I'll give you my impressions. Blue World is the game with SCUBA gameplay and some casual RPG elements (salvaging treasure to sell, then buying better air tanks). Also, there are a HUGE amount of sidequests.

Dive is a sidescrolling underwater treasure hunting game, seemingly similar to Ecco the Dolphin.

It feels like Nintendo cuts back on VC releases during the summer, since this is the second straight year they've done this. I'd like to think it is because people are not home or indoors during the summer time. I hope it picks up in the fall, close to the holidays like it did around that time last year as well.

I'll be downloading both these titles when I get back home in a few weeks. UFOURIA was never released in the US. It plays like a metroid type platformer. I remember watching a video about it a while back and was interested.

I really wish either me, Valve, or someone who understands digital distribution was in charge of the Wii Shop. $5 for an NES game seems absurd when I paid $2.50 for Braid and could probably pay less than that for a SMB/Duck Hunt cart.

For that matter, how could Nintendo be so shortsighted to package the emulator with every copy of a game on the VC?

Invisible channels are possible with the Wii. The Wii terms of service is actually a channel, for example. Nintendo could make a NES emulator channel and include it with everyone's first NES game.

* Romancing SaGa 3 (The third in a fairly popular Square RPG series, and the last entry on the SFC.)
* Shin Megami Tensei II (The second SFC installment in the popular series, which has only become known in the west fairly recently.)

Virtual Console Arcade:

* Exed Exes (A vertical shoot 'em up that's fairly similar to Xevious. Overall, though, it's fairly insignificant.)
* SonSon (The first Capcom arcade title, as promised by them a while ago. An action platformer, you run across one of six horizontal paths, shooting the incoming enemy and strategically switching paths to avoid others as you see fit.)
* Super Hang-On (One of the first highly-regarded racing games, created by the legendary Yu Suzuki over at Sega. Sadly this version will be unable to replicate the awesome motorbike you had to sit on in arcades!)
This week's notable game is "And Yet It Moves." Also a VC release, "Ufouria," an import title from Sunsoft:
Think Blaster Master meets Wonderboy in Monster Land/World.

Yes, I have played it, and yes I did like it. ;)
Guess we're not getting anything this week.
Didn't we? Someone on Gamefaqs posted a press release. Samurai Shodown 3 showed up on the VC along with assorted crap.

Ah yes, SamSho 3 for the VC, and some other stuff.

You’ve earned a day off. No matter what kind of labor keeps you busy on most Mondays, today is the perfect day to just relax and enjoy yourself. To help put you in the leisurely spirit, this week’s new downloadable games for Wii™ and Nintendo DSi™ systems offer welcome diversions for everyone under the sun. Mosey into an atypical Old-West adventure with Fenimore Fillmore “The Westerner” for the WiiWare™ service. Live out your secret samurai fantasies with the NEOGEO classic SAMURAI SHOWDOWN III, now available on the Virtual Console™ service. For some fun on the go, the Nintendo DSiWare™ service now lets you test your tile-matching skills with Simply Mahjong, interact with rare birds in My Exotic Farm, or get your six-string kicks with Music on: Acoustic Guitar.

WiiWare

Fenimore Fillmore “The Westerner”
Publisher: Revistronic
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone) – Cartoon Violence, Mild Language, Use of Alcohol and Tobacco
Price: 1,000 Wii Points™

Description: Welcome to the West! Come and see the fastest cowboy in action. Visit a typical Western town with a grand saloon, a sheriff’s office and a bank. Meet the classic doctor, the powerful “master of the land,” an industrious pioneer and men and women who raised a great nation with their blood, sweat and tears. But there are things that cannot be helped, and one of them – very typical in the West – is the continuous fighting between farmers and cattle ranchers. While farmers used to win the sympathy of most people, cattle ranchers had more money, more men and more power. Only a cowboy as peculiar as Fenimore Fillmore could side with the farmers when the rest of the cowboys are paid by the merciless and sinister cattle rancher.

Virtual Console

SAMURAI SHODOWN III
Original platform: NEOGEO
Publisher: D4 Enterprise
Players: 1-2
ESRB Rating: T (Teen) – Blood, Use of Tobacco, Violence
Price: 900 Wii Points

Description: This is a fighting game released in 1995 as a sequel to the previous year’s release of SAMURAI SHOWDOWN II. Though this is the third installment in the series, the story takes place between the first and second installments. Players can choose from 12 samurai seeking to defeat Zankuro Minazuki. Along with minor upgrades from the last version – such as the ability to press buttons to fill your rage gauge and the ability to defend in midair – you can also select from slash and bust personality types for each character. Each type has its own set of special moves you can take advantage of, effectively doubling the amount of characters you can play.

Simply Mahjong

ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 200 Nintendo DSi Points™

Description: Simply Mahjong gives you exactly what you want: pure mahjong on your Nintendo DSi system. Mahjong is a Chinese tile-matching game. The tiles are arranged in a special pattern with their faces upward. A tile is said to be open if it can be moved either left or right without disturbing other tiles. The goal is to match pairs of identical tiles. The game is finished when all pairs of tiles have been removed from the board or there are no exposed pairs remaining. The simple game design and easy, intuitive controls make it a game that the whole family can enjoy. The game features 50 puzzles in each level to provide hours of fun.

My Exotic Farm
Publisher: BiP Media
Players: 1-2
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 200 Nintendo DSi Points

If you feed and take care of it, the parrot will make feathers that can be sold. With this money, you can buy new animals at the Farmers’ Market and purchase equipment from the shopkeeper. Little by little, as your farm builds up, you will unlock bonuses including a well, a great green macaw, a guard dog and a 4x4. You can also exchange animals with your friends who play My Farm or My Exotic Farm.

Nothing great, but I'm tempted to buy a VC game just so Nintendo keeps them coming.

Oh, yeah... and when is Sonic 4 coming out? I know it got moved from early summer, but I thought it would be out by now. Did I miss the announcement?
