Wii U - General Discussion Thread

Hey guys, I am curious about something which may have been explained already somewhere in this long thread, but it seems as though it'd be more efficient to just ask rather than trying to search, which I suck at.

Regarding Miiverse, and specifically the messaging aspects of Miiverse, I've heard that Nintendo puts a delay on things you post publicly so that they can be reviewed to make sure they aren't offensive, but that private messaging between registered friends is instantaneous. Is this true? Also, I had thought that you could send your friends pictures, but I can't find anything about photos on NIntendo's Wii U faq, other than a discussion about screenshots, and even that made it sound like screenshots weren't something you could attach to a PM. Can you attach screenshots and/or photos to PMs?

I'm curious about the option for photo attachments on the PMs cause of the recent problem with swapnote, and because if PMs between registered friends are instantaneous now, I don't want them to put a delay on them so that they can make sure no naughty pics got sent or whatever, since that seems like it'd make the messaging system pretty useless. That's assuming it's instantaneous now though. If not, it may already be useless.

Thanks :)

The Wii U retail release just came out today with an exclusive disney pin at target. When combined with the B2G1 this week you can get it for just under $14 after buying it with 2 different $20 games and then returning said games. I mentioned it becuase its cheaper than the digital download, you get a pin, and an actual disc. I was waiting for a sale on the DD but this is 10x better in my opinion.
Looks like I will be stopping by Target on my way home today. I had been waiting on the disc release for DuckTales Remastered. An exclusive pin and the buy-two-get-one free deal is perfect. I don't tend to return games though, so I'm going to have to find two other $20 games that I want. That won't be easy. I already picked over Target's selection earlier in the week. There aren't many $20 games that I would still want.

But still no info about the fact that Nintendo ties all digital purchases to consoles, rather than accounts (so if your console breaks or is stolen/lost, you're screwed). Too little, too late, as usual.

Why the fuck do you care? Does this news affect you in any way?

I really wish that Wii Points were applicable to the eShop.  My local Walmart has had a ton of the 2000 Point/Classic controller sleeve combos on clearance for $10 for months now.

Are those the ones with the sleeve for the original CC? My Walmart had those on clearance at least four years ago.

Very wishful thinking. For this to be the case, Nintendo would have had to come to Amazon absolutely begging because they need Amazon more than Amazon needs them - especially with Wii U hardware.

Cool, could you provide us with notes from the past meeting between Amazon and Nintendo, since you were there?

Suggest reading comprehension lessons.
You are so sure of what happened that I assumed you were there. You're obviously a high-up at Nintendo since you always seem to have the inside scoop. I just wanted to see your notes so I can throw my Wii U in the trash, since the only comprehensible way Amazon is selling Nintendo's bundles is that they MUST have begged them. Making money just doesn't make sense, so it had to be begging.

And since you don't work at Nintendo, you're obviously just a clueless dipshit. Lol.

Probably going to put their 3DS apps on mobile, like the Pokedex or their game clocks. Whatever they do, it will be in support of the WiiU and 3DS. I highly doubt we will see, say, Super Mario Bros. being distributed by them.

Perhaps they will use this to develop an app for the Pokemon TCG or PokeBank?

And technically, they have gone mobile, as they do have some mobile apps already.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them put out a game or two to test the waters.

I am a little surprised they haven't entertained making a NES or SNES VC app for mobile, Nintendo could sell the games exclusively via their eshop and make the DLs available through their mobile app ala Kindle.

Nintendo says they aren't planning to distribute games through this acquisition. Blaster man says he wouldn't be surprised if they don't test the waters. Conclusion: blaster man is on the board at Nintendo.

IIRC there was no way in hell they would lower the price then 2 or 3 weeks later they announce a price cut. In Nintendo we trust.
To be fair, that was a broken clock prediction, you've been saying that since after the underwhelming 2012 holiday season, you were bound to be right eventually on that one.

Hey guys since PS4 was available for over an hour on Amazon last night that means it's gonna get a price cut! Just watch, you'll see. Sony will have to cut the price.

And to be more fair, he predicted a more than $100 price cut when most of us were saying $50 would be about right. And it was $50. ;)

Yeah well I was wrong, happy now?! My new prediction based on their last quarterly filing, if they sell less than 1 million Wii U's this holiday, the console is discontinued sometime next year.

To clarify the original post that was quoted, that wasn't a broken clock prediction. I was stating that Bintendo's insistence that they wouldn't do something can't be accepted as fact.

So I finally went to my local TRU to grab :wii: Kirby RtD, and OF COURSE the two copies that have been there for over a year got bought up in the past week with the B1G40%.  UGH.  Grabbed :wiiu: Sonic Lost World and :ds: Okamiden instead for $51 after the sale and two Groupons.

Sonic Lost World has everything going for it except level design (and the terrible voice acting/cutscenes, but that's par for the course at this point).  It's got the music, the look, the setting, no side characters, solid gameplay hook ideas...and then the stupid "new Sonic" level design comes in and shits all over it.  It's way too easy to just blow past most of the level and auto-bumper to the finish, and completely clashes with the slower level design they were going for.  They just need to stick all of their Dreamcast-era design documents into a rocket and fire it into the sun.  Hopefully there's room for Cream the Rabbit and all of the other terrible sidekick characters from the last 15 years.

I'm still trying to figure out who "Bintendo" is...
I figured it was a play on his bargain-bin/garbage-bin assessment of Nintendo's console (and also Wii U games) with perhaps a sly reference to the condition of most Wii games (ie, shovelware in the bargain bin). But I think more likely it was just a typo ;).

Blaster Man is a reasonable poster everywhere else on CAG. It's just in here that he goes off the rails...

The Nyko U Boost for Wii U on sale from Amazon for $11:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009Q5XGO2/ref=ox_ya_os_product

Saw this on slickdeals and I thought it might be helpful for those interested. Really nice accessory in my opinion. It's a battery extender for the Gamepad and doubles as a kickstand which is great for watching videos or for games that use the Gamepad as a menu screen.
It's showing up as $20 not $11. At $11 I would totally jump on that, still might.

EDIT: Nvm, it's out of stock, which is why it is $20.

I started to post it in this thread. I posted it on CAG, first. Then, I posted it over there, too, because I knew that 'Sheryl' person was gonna snatch it off of here, anyway.

Deal is, still, there. Look under "More Buying Choices" and you will see the $10.97 Amazon price. When I first posted it, it was saying it ships Nov.20.

Ive noticed a lot more commercials running for Wii U now and really stressing the point that this is a brand new console and better than the Wii.

I have seen a bunch on Cartoon Network. I have seen a few start on ESPN, but Comcast cuts it off for their own commercials.
