Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Plenty of assholes own XBox One's too. On another forum I am on (not video game related) some guy wanted to know what the video game community was doing to improve their image after some douche swatted another player and the police shot some unrelated person dead. These two were playing COD on XBL. I don't think everyone on XBL is like that. Before that the gamergate thing.

When you have 10's of millions of people you are bound to have a bunch of assholes too.

Anyway not trying to convince you to buy a PS4.
Yeah, gaming culture in general is pretty ridiculous and often toxic, it's not limited to a single brand or platform. Plenty of assholes all around. Whether or not there's a good community often depends on the game, not the platform. I had wonderful experiences with Destiny and on forums for big single player games, but then competitive shooters are often full of racist, sexist trash-talking which goes beyond anything resembling friendly competition.

All I know is, none of that will stop me from enjoying my favorite hobby.

And at this point we really are not deciding between 2 or three competing consoles. My man cave has every Nintendo conole save the Wii U, every PS save the 4, and every X. I still play games on all of them and still seek out retro games that I've not tried.
My complaint with Sony and the fans of Sony started this generation. Admittedly Microsoft got cocky and played it wrong, but even when they responded to their costomers and applied fix after fix, upgrade after upgrade...the Sony denizens found more to rail on. Seriously no one was making them buy an XBox; just move on. Sadly, their complaints drowned out X owners such as me and resulted in features that I thought were positive being stripped away. I personally like Kinect....loved bowling with my drunk friends and hoped new party games would come. Now that feature is gone along with others. So I left Sony and their rabid fans behind. In all of that, I never bashed the console, why would I when I have a choice to purchase it or not.

As to the thread, has anyone played the Mafia 3 dlcs? Is it worth picking up? I just grabbed the game from GameStops $14.99 sale this week.

this is spot on.

first is the argument that xbox has no compelling exclusives. while i disagree, i can see why they have that opinion when you look at the massive selection of ps4 exclusives.

then there's the complaint about how MS blew it with their xbox one announcement when they said it always has to be online and won't play a disc that was previously owned. MS listened and fixed those things well before launch. here we are over 4 years into the current gen cycle and people still can't let it go.

For a game that's mediocre at best (See of thieves) the dlc that's floating around in the trade thread is stupid expensive.Which in 2-3 months from now everyone will jump ship and forget the game ever existed.

Found another copy of Breakdown in a local shop, this one CIB for $8, but I haven't played it and the XBL version will only be $2 more. Went with a $5 disc only copy of Jade Empire instead.

Funny thing is, this was supposed to be originally introduced with the PS3. There were articles back then saying it was going to be an always online system and that it wouldn't play used games. Of course, the blowback was so severe that they ended up cancelling those plans. They've always wanted to do what MS initially planned, they just didn't have the balls to go through with it.

Somehow missed that Dirt 4 is $18. Think that’s good enough for me to go digital. Trades for $13 base at GS ($15.60 with my Elite Pro crap).

I picked it up on PS4 recently. Played only the faster baby dlc. Was fun but maybe a bit short. Have not played the other dlc yet. How much is it on Live?

I think the main problem with the main game is it was too long.
Boss battle after boss battle. Seemed like they just wanted to drag it out

It is 60 fps by default now, one of the recent updates removed the option because they felt they improved the game performance so much that there was no longer a need for the choice.
Thank you.

Now the question is how do I change matchmaker settings so I can include cross play? I see where it says "Same platform", but not where to change it.

The description on the store page says it includes blood moon and tribunal expansions.

I thought I heard from someone that the regular disc version downloads the base game and expansions too for bc. I have tested neither myself.
Would really love to find out if this is true. Would love to grab the standard version then from Gamestop for $2.99 instead of purchasing the game digitally for $14.99. But I'm okay with getting it digitally if the base disc doesn't nab you the expansions.

I grabbed the $2.99 version because $2.99 really isn't much to lose if it's a bad bet......

Yeah that only works so-so. I recommend having them friend request you if they are on PC. Then you can add them by pressing menu and going to epic friends. Allow cross platform option is in the settings under the game tab. Chat can be glitchy if they don't have win 10 and the Xbox app to talk through, but it works usually in game. Some restarts may be required.

Just filed my taxes. Figured I'd get them done a little earlier this year for a change.

Are you an entitled douchebag that was born into money? If so, you're the demographic.
No, but I went to college with a bunch of people who were. Trying to remember where I parked in the student lot - Beamer, Beamer, Beamer, LeBaron, Beamer ... oops, went one too far.

That's an honest and fairly encouraging quote.
Well, as nice as it is for Phil to say that, it doesn’t make me hopeful of a big new first party announcement at E3. The whole it will “take time” seems like a cop out.
I mean the XB1 launched every bit as bad as the PS3 if not worse so not owning up to the mistakes would be foolish. They flubbed the hardware, the software, the messaging, all of it. They've turned it around and absolutely nailed the hardware and the messaging and pulling the generation into 4K/HDR. AAA games take time though and MS was very publicly proclaiming that exclusives were dead and by reports after the fact didn't even counter offer on a lot of third party stuff when it was being shopped around. Pretty much everything they banked on for the last two years flopped or died in development and you can't just recover from that overnight. Hopefully they have multiple things in the pipeline though or things could be very, very grim looking if they don't have something to build some hype at E3 (besting Nintendo or Sony this year seems entirely unfathomable right now though). Just got to get the software side on track and they can recover. Wasn't until half way through last gen that PS3 started to hit its stride with the flood of exclusives and made up that seemingly insurmountable console sales lead (surpassing 360 even by some estimates). If MS sticks to their Xbox is Xbox messaging and talk of forward compatibility they could really seize that mindshare back as we head towards whatever's next if they build that momentum back up.

How's the ghost recon wildlands season pass content?
I think it's 24 for the base and 33 for the golden edition?
I have the game for ps4, but last I checked the extra content wasn't on sale.
Don't know if I want to double dip for the extras.

Owning all of the current systems, I still play my X1 more than any of them (save BOI on the Switch.) Stupidely enough it has always come down to the fact that I enjoy the XBox controller more than the PS or Pro controller. Direct quote from a "fanboy" when I mentioned this on social media, "My PS4 controller is fine to me but I guess if you have sensitive hands play with a lesser system."

Just lovely.

Anyone else play Splasher? Really awesome platformer. For some reason hadn’t even heard of it prior to this week’s sale.

For anyone that missed RDR on the spring sale before it was announced as being X enhanced it's $15 at BBY this week physical, $12 with GCU.

Hadn't heard of it and saw it was just 35% off for the sale, so didn't look any deeper. But then I saw this on the marketplace page :

Splasher is the latest project from Romain Claude, former Game Designer and Level Designer at Ubisoft (Rayman Origins, Rayman Legends). He put together a small, talented team, including Art Director Richard Vatinel a.k.a Gromy, and Composer and Sound Designer Aymeric Schwartz (Absolver, Rayman Origins or Valiant Hearts) to create Splasher. The game was also developed in partnership with famous speedrunners.
Might have a decision to make before Tuesday morning.

Yeah, I hadn’t read that but now that know that I’m not at all surprised at the pedigree. It’s very well polished and has some nice mechanics involving paint and water. That may sound gimmicky but it’s not. Great level design and a bit of SMB feel to it (though not as difficult). Well worth the ~$10.

Tempting, how is it for a casual? I don't like speedeunning at all and am a little worried at the design focus.

I played the second dlc on PS4 and enjoyed it. The first one sounds kinda stupid to me. Reviews for it weren't very good. Have not motivated myself to play the first dlc. Unless you have someone to play with on XBox I would probably just wait for a sale on the dlc on PSN. The game is fun single player but much more fun co-op. Not sure I would want to replay it solo on XBox.

It can be difficult and expect to die but from what I’ve played so far it isn’t nearly as hard as something like Super Meat Boy. It’s pretty accessible IMO.

This is weird. My Gold status has expired but I swear I had two more months left. I never even got a warning about it expiring.

What is the rule on 14 day trials again? Can I get both free games with that?

Edit: The more I look into this the more I am convinced my Gold was cancelled early.

Not a deal at all, but I just noticed Nine Parchments got an Xbox release last month. 4k 60 fps, from Frozenbyte (Trine), gorgeous art design. Co-op wizard combat game where you can cross the streams for interesting results. Friendly fire can make it even more interesting/funny/chaotic. 20 bucks.

Game looks cool. Anyone know if you need to play co-op? Does it play well as a single player?

Game Pass is the new hot deal for MS Rewards.  5,600 points for 1 month, 14,400 for 3 months.  Runs through May 15th or they decide that's enough ("while supplies last").

Nice might as well re-up another month now. I did notice that it actually seems to be cheaper on MS Rewards usually than the $9.99 ARV. I picked it up a week or so ago for 6800 points, while not 1000 points to $1 it seems to be right around that ball park.

Tried playing Red Dead Redemption on Xbox One X on my 1080p TV and it's really bad. Some sort of stuttering or something that makes moving around almost nauseous for me, so I can't touch this until it's fixed.

Here's a video of what I've been seeing:

Also tried to jump back into Fortnite once more with my Epic account I've used on PC and PS4 and that still doesn't work either.
