Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Finished Halo 5 last night. My opinion hasn't changed, it was a competent, generic game. The squad additions introduce a bunch of new characters that are never developed, there are THREE missions where all you do is walk around and talk to NPCs, and the plot itself is a huge betrayal of the few things I really liked about Halo's story.

Chief repeatedly turns down squads in past games, insisting he works better alone, except when shit is real dire. Now Blue Team is is family? What? Cortana went crazy in a Forerunner mainframe and is now the antagonist? I realize they will probably try and rope her in and return things to normal in the next game as a story arc but it's still really stupid and uninteresting.

MP is great though. I wasn't thinking I'd care about it much but I ended up playing a bunch of random Warzone games. I'd consider buying H5 on the cheap just for online but probably won't.

I always say it but again, forcing boring ass company man Locke to be the new leading man and face of the franchise was an awful, awful choice. Glad to hear H6 will focus more on Chief.
I started playing The Division last night with a friend. Takes about an hour to get to the point where you can co-op (need to get to Manhattan). We should be playing Thursday and/or Friday night. He is level 130 or so. We are just about done with the first mission in Manhattan. Hopefully I will be able to buy some guns now. Really a struggle at the start with the crap guns and bullet sponges.

Anyway if you see us on feel free to join. Won't be tonight though.

Locke is fine as a character, but he shouldn't have been the focus of the storyline. People were mad when the Arbiter took so much focus on H2, and even more levels in H5 involve not playing as MC. Plus, the bloated squads have new characters with zero development. I really wanted to play as Vale because it really doesn't matter but apparently that's only possible in co-op. Also stupid.

It's up to you, but some tips I give my friends -- it's not necessary to buy guns (or anything, really) as you're leveling up. Guns, armor, mods, etc. drop randomly from encounters and missions, and they will have better stats than what you currently have, quickly making what you have obsolete. Anything you buy will quickly be replaced within a mission or two. I advise waiting until you are at max character level (30) before spending money.

To deal with bullet sponginess, try to do side missions to level up until you are one or (ideally) two levels higher than the recommended level for the next story mission. Will make them much easier, plus you have to complete the side missions anyways if you are interested in maxing out your base and all your skills.

Chiefs known Blue Team a long time, it was in the books and comics and stuff, so it makes more sense if you know the lore beyond just the games.

The squad stuff seems so insignificant I forgot they were in the story until you mentioned it. Honestly I don't remember much of what H5 was about story-wise. Usually not a good sign.

Can the Season Pass Discs of Game of Thrones and Tales From The Borderlands (Xbox One) be downloaded then played without the disc? I've seen mixed responses.

With Batman Telltale X1, you could insert the Season Pass Disc, download it and never need the disc again. BUT the catch is you need to own Episode 1 to do so.
My Tales from the Borderlands copy required the disc to play the episodes, and I own the 1st one (it's free). I don't know if I'm going to try that with the new TWD, especially because the first episode is not free yet and I haven't finished even the 1st season yet on X1. Played through them already on 360 and PC, want to have them all on the same account though

Top 5 funniest things I've ever seen playing any game, I was crying.

Homegirl was really trying to get to the car and walks right in front of it, some real movie type ish.

Have so much amazing stuff from this game. Need to make an imgur album or something.

You didn't drive the pickax into her skull? Dude, you know how these things play out - you need to be sure they're dead.

Re: Aliens: Colonial Marines

I was one of the suckers who bought that thing at launch. I played it within a week of purchasing (I even 1000/1000'd it) and while I was definitely disappointed, I didn't think it was the worst game ever like everyone was saying. It was playable and serviceable, but it wasn't anywhere near being worth $60 and I was furious at Gearbox for getting my hype up for what it ended up being after all these years. This was only cemented by the details that would come out later. Actual false advertising, outsourcing the project and as GGP mentioned, most likely funneling away funds given to them by SEGA to put towards the Borderlands franchise instead.

So while the game is meh/disappointing, I wouldn't say it's not worth getting/playing EXCEPT for all the shenanigans I mentioned above.

Basically, if you want to tell Gearbox (which has a long history of fucking people over/doing shitty things) to fuck off, don't buy it. If you don't care about any sort of boycott/statement, then yeah, go ahead and buy it for $8. PC version is best, fwiw. Also, the 360 version has a save bug that will absolutely destroy your progress if you don't take certain precautions. Luckily I wasn't affected since I 100%'d it within two weeks.

Dungeon Defenders 2 comes out June 20th. Not sure if anyone's mentioned it yet.
Should also be F2P on launch like it is on PC.

^ yeah. Basically, Colonial Marines was supposed to be this amazing, AAA game from a tried-and-true developer, and it ended up being an outsourced budget title which didn't live up to any of the promises they made (including false advertising and misrepresentation of the game as a work-in-progress). Based on the finished product, MSRP should have been $20, and then Randy Pitchford stuck is head in the sand and actually blocked people on Twitter who tried to ask him about it all while retweeting positive comments.

Thanks for reigniting my rage about the game. I was starting to think I was the only one who remembered the sort of shit they pulled at the time.

Dudes & Dudettes...y'all need to play Mark of the Ninja. I'm not a huge nut for either stealth oriented gaming or side scrollers, but this game is pretty damn fun. Its like Dishonored (which I didnt really enjoy) in that you're able to choose to chop everybody's head off or sneak past them if you want using a bunch of cool ninja tricks & weapons. You get various amounts of points for each action so trying to set high scores and compete with friends scores gives it replayability. Easily top 3 XBLA games I've played.

Been saying over and over and over that this needs BC. My #1 request.

thank you, I need someone to boost me up to 30, I'll definitely hit you up.

A life?

Just kidding, but what kinds of games are you into? Rocket League is a must if you don't own it, even at full price
I lost my life a long time ago, a real long time ago! Way before Dave Chappelle had 2 kids!

I'm into most game genres, my least favorite being fighting. I've been enjoying the new Friday the 13th game. The game I play most is Smite though. I'm looking at Agents of Mayhem but the release is kinda far off....Has anyone here played Dreamfall Chapters yet?

P.S. I got all my credits from the Smite referral program only allowing you to redeem the better with friends bundle once per account. Since i referred more than one person, they gave me rewards credits for the bundles i couldn't redeem!

BOOMSHAKALAKA

My Xbox Rewards activity for Retro purchases is reflecting.  Now if I'm lucky, I can use them monies to buy stuff this week.

So I should probably look around for a code for Xbux.

I'm hype and I was going to be annoyed that I bought so much BC stuff in the last sale, but then I remembered that since it's once a week, it'd only be 13 titles until the current end of that reward (I'm sure they'll extend it, but still). We'll see what happens.

Of the games in the image, I don't have 2/10 at all, and I'm missing another 4/10 digitally.

Chief turned down squads in the games because he was only around normal soldiers, not Spartans. I don't know if you've read any of the books but in them he is the leader his class of Spartan-IIs, and specifically Blue Team is his main crew. Most of the time he's doing stuff in the books it is with this crew. I know a TON of people who follow (or at least followed) the expanded universe had been desperate to see Fred, Kelly, and Linda in the games since pretty much Halo 2, as they were established in Fall of Reach.

Unfortunately 343 cocked up their debut pretty badly, mechanically the permanent squad that can revive each other just totally changes how Halo plays, and we only got Blue Team for 20% of the game. Not to mention they did virtually nothing to explain their connection to John in game, nor really emphasis combat abilities other than Linda's sniping. The squad thing worked better in Reach since you usually only had two Spartans max aside from the opening, and if you died you couldn't be revived.

Osiris is even worse, since Buck is the only interesting person, and the squad wasn't even together before the game. Only Vale really got any development in the expanded stuff too. Locke had his bad live action thing but isn't really fleshed out in it, and Tanaka only had a few issues of a comic that did nothing for her.

Honestly the Cortana stuff is the most interesting direction they could have taken it if they were bringing her back. I expected her to come back the second Halo 4 ended since she spent so many copies into the Forerunner network and the Domain exists, but I figured she would come back good and "fixed" and there would be something Forerunner coming from Didact, but I guess they just lost interest in him since he isn't even touched on in 5. Going in this "Created vs Creator" direction could have some cool consequences. But then, I haven't liked where the series has been going since 343 has taken over.

To be fair MS did the same thing with Oblivion before it went BC.

They also did it with another title but I can't recall which one.

Pertinent notes from the FAQ:
"This offer is open to the specific title(s) featured each week on Thursday, which will primarily consist of Xbox 360 games that are now playable on Xbox One as part of the back-compatible catalog. From time to time we may feature early Xbox One titles as well. Please note this offer only applies to digital games purchased in the Xbox Store. You must purchase the featured title before the end of the day in YOUR local time."

"While new offers will appear on the site between June 1, 2017 and August 31, 2017, all actions must be completed between 00:00 and 23:59 on Thursday during YOUR local time. Please note this differs from most other Rewards offers, where time is based on UTC time, and not on the time zone that you reside in."

For those skeptical about the MvC leak I posted last night, the game will be at E3 and I'm sure it'll show up at one of the conferences, probably Sony, maybe Xbox. If one of these characters is confirmed and nothing unknown other than maybe the mystery Capcom character isn't, then it'll be safe to assume the list is real.

Or we they could pull some nonsense, not be at conference, and simply have the confirmed characters playable with no new trailer.

Ah, I had no idea those were 'extended universe' characters from other mediums. That does make the attempt to include them a bit cooler, but even more disappointing in terms of delivery, because they were very generic grunts.

They should have made Locke a supporting character for H5, focused on MC, and then made an ODST style game with the alternate team to show the story from another point of view. I'm full of good ideas, someone should hire me.

Guessing it will never happen since Paradise is already BC, but I'd kill to have Burnout Revenge added to BC. People consider Paradise the better game and, sure, it's great and huge. But Revenge still had a ridiculous sense of speed and greater thrill to me.

The balance of levels should have been reversed at the very least. 20% Locke would have been acceptable, but I really fell that he has not brought anything to the table so far. You'd have thought they would have learned from Halo 2. Arbiter grew on people quite a bit since, but at launch a lot of people were up set simply because he was half of the levels. It doesn't help that they said the reason they did it was to give a new perspective on John, but I think they failed pretty hard there, if that was the plan they really should have just did a spin-off game where you don't see him at all until the very end.

There was some other cool stuff in here for long time fans, but I feel like they're squandered too. Seeing a colony that isn't associated with the UNSC could have been great, but they wussed out and didn't include the Insurrectionists that have been integral to a lot of expanded universe stuff. Seeing Sanghelois was cool but that backstory has all been from the 343 era.

I think the big problem is a lack of narrative focus overall from the top. Since 343 has been writing stories we have had;

-Didact set up as the villain only to seemingly be totally dropped even after showing he was alive in their main comic series
-threads of ex-Covenant and Insurrectionists joining forces against the UNSC
-343 Guilty Spark's semi-resurrection and theft of a UNSC ship
-an implied return of the Flood

only for none of this to be continued or referenced for Cortana to be corrupted and pull the whole concept of Guardians out of their asses even though they had THREE Forerunner books to set them up. Plus, you have Jul M'dama built up as this big deal in 4 only to be killed instantly in 5 with no build up or fight. I haven't read a few of the most recent books and comics released post-Halo 4, they pump them out way faster then the Bungie era, and I haven't really played Halo Wars 2 yet so maybe this has changed. But I just get the impression that we've had several different writers not communicating or receiving a basic outline from up top, or that the person in charge of the overall story has changed their minds several times.
