Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Well you do have to remember that people like us make up such an infinitesimally small percentage of the people they want to target and they know that we'll still give them money no matter how much we protest or how much they screw it up. They have to appeal to the other 7 billion people out there.
True, but time and time again when they alienate the hardcore fans the movies flop. Marvel Studios has stayed way closer to the source material and reaped the benefits. Same with the Harry Potter films.

Aaaand hopefully the same with Ghost in the Shell live action movies...

I saw power rangers tonight and I must say it was pretty good. A lot better than I thought it would be. A lot of people including myself were dressed in power ranger shirts too!

Fellow Xbox brethren - I must confess I purchased a PS4 today - I promise it's only to play the show

I've been playing Worlds of Magic:  Planar Conquest and it plays pretty good but it isn't perfect.  But damn, almost everything around me that I can fight towers over me so I have to skirt around everything...

As someone who's been watching a lot of the Power Ranger marathon on Twitch I don't think I will ever even see the new movie, same with the TMNT and later Transformer movies, I don't need this stuff ruined when I can just watch the old stuff and still enjoy it.

I own three of the four games next month in the GWG and the one I don't own, I have on 360 already. BUT DON'T PANIC! I bought 41 games this year so far and have Persona 5 preordered.

30 hours into Mass Effect, when does it get terrible like the internet says? It's getting murdered by user reviews on metacritic. It's very good so far. I've only played one game of multiplayer but can't wait to finish the campaign to explore it more.

I need some help from you guys, I really want to get Mass Effect but I've never played the first 3 even though I've had them installed for who knows how long.

Forza Horizon 3 has four new weekend challenges up.

For those who still don't know, when in-game press Start --> Social tab --> #Forzathon to see the requirements, or check the Achievements app. At least one Challenge per week gives out an exclusive or hard-to-get car.

These will take a bit more time if you suck at barrel role skills and also need to wait around for a Skill Song to play.

I just noticed that Ryse: Son of Rome (game only) isn't even available to buy. Only the Legendary Edition bundle is available to buy. I wonder if we will get the Legendary Edition or if they will just make the game alone available next month to download. When they had that freebie for subscribing to Gold via some ad last year, it was the Legendary Edition. Although the price they give for Ryse: Son of Rome is $19.99 in the GwG announcement.

Aside from the widely acknowledged characters and animations, it's more the fact that they didn't live up to expectations, first in comparison to standouts like The Witcher 3 and secondly in comparison to their own standards. It's like if a straight A student suddenly turned in a C exam -- sure it's a passing grade, but they clearly didn't study or try hard enough.

No spoilers in the text, but spoilered to not take up people's screen space....

I'm still enjoying it, but to me this game reminds me a lot of Fallout 4. It seems like they took the same old gen/Xbox 360 engine and just added new content and maybe better graphics. Feels like the game could totally run on old gen consoles. They made no effort to do anything amazing that takes advantage of next/current gen tech.

The biggest gripe I have is with memory management. Sometimes there are load screens between cutscenes. You see a cutscene, then black loading screen with the logo on the lower right, then next cutscene. Like, really? You couldn't have loaded the other cutscene in the background while playing the first one? You couldn't have combined the cutscenes? You couldn't have streamed the cutscenes? Like wtf. Related to this is the stupid "load screen" on your own ship (Tempest). If you're at the front of the ship and walk to the back (behind the round table where you can send out strike forces), you have to wait at that door while the game loads in the back of the ship. First, the ship is a very small environment. Second, there are only around 10 characters, most of whom don't even move, so it's not an issue with too many moving pieces. There are much larger environments with way move moving pieces in games like The Witcher, GTA, Ghost Recon Wildlands, The Division, etc. Why is that loading/waiting even there?

And then there are the minor bugs. I did a mission where I was supposed to grab an item. I could see the marker floating in front of me, but there was nothing there. I pulled out my scanner and walked all around, thinking it was another of those hide and seek missions. Finally frustrated, I looked up a Youtube video and there is supposed to be an object where the marker is. So I made a save, backed out to the home screen, and restarted the game. When I loaded in, the object was there.

TL;DR -- Feels very unpolished. The game overall reminds me a lot of the first Mass Effect.

They're resurrecting the base game from the grave just for this.

If you want big open-worlds to explore, and in this case open-galaxy, then expect some bugs. You know, people that play the big RPGs like Fallout and Elder Scrolls are ok with that with what they get overall. This is the same with the Mass Effect games tbh. Mass Effect 1 had a lot of problems out the game but the overall experience was just a huge mindfuck, nobody had seen anything like it before then. True The Witcher 3 is out there but I don't get why everyone criticizes Mass Effect for not being like The Witcher 3, I don't want my game to be like The Witcher, I want it to be like Mass Effect. I quite enjoyed The Witcher 3 but it has its own style and Mass Effect the same.

3D Engines talk:

Fallout 3 used Gamebryo

Fallout 4 used Creation

Mass Effect 3 used Unreal 3

& Mass Effect: Andromeda uses Frostbite 3

Take a stroll down the wikipedia store.

So no, they're (devs) are not just throwing in new content on old game engines and upping the graphics. That would be Activision's Call of Duty back in the Blops days but even Activision knew something had to change when moving to the newer systems - Call of Duty.

TL:DR You're an idiot.

They didn't just take the same engine, throw some sprinkles on it and say tadaaaaa.

Took me a bit over an hour to knock this one out. With the buggy I can do barrel rolls better. Even so it was pretty easy.

One of the others was to get 15 drifts in a specific Honda or Toyota. The Honda looked to be part of a car pack. But the Toyota was available for CR so I did the drifting in that.

the campaign is what interests me in titanfall 2, wish it would finally hit the vault
Bought it a few weeks back from BBY during a Deal of the Day - the Deluxe Ed was $19.99 GCU. Traded it back to BBY yesterday for $20.80. Plus, sold the Deluxe Ed DLC in the trading thread. So I got to play the campaign AND got paid to do it.

The campaign was def a lot of fun and well worth the price of admission.

To these points, yeah I'm not expecting it to be The Witcher 3 in gameplay or atmosphere, but I'm more referring to the sense of taking advantage of the next/current gen tech. The Witcher 3 was a HUGE leap from The Witcher 2, in tech and in content. Fallout 4 and ME:A are not huge leaps from their older versions, imo.

Again, no real spoilers below, just for the sake of space...

Fallout 4 and MEA, while technically on different engines, don't really do much different from the user's perspective than what was in the older versions. For example, you walk to a subway station/building in Fallout 3 or Fallout 4, you hold a button, load screen, wait for interior environment to load. In other current/next gen games, the whole experience is seamless. Other games actually took advantage of the new hardware and made innovative interactions and design choices. While Fallout 4 and ME:A may technically be on new engines, they simply took the same structures/code they had from before and moved them to this new platform so to the users, it essentially looks and feels like the same engine. If that makes sense.

All those memory issues I mentioned earlier shouldn't exist. As another example, when you land on the Nexus from The Tempest, make a run to the nearest merchant. The terminals will be there, but when you hold Y to interact, it does nothing. The game is loading something else in the background instead of recognizing what you're trying to do. You have to walk away from that area, wait a bit, then go back to it and it works. Again, that shouldn't happen. Minor things, but just an example of the unpolished approach they took. Still enjoying the game, but I can acknowledge its flaws, too.

Overreacting, much? His point was sensibly made, even if you don't agree with it.
Sensibly? Well I'll have to disagree on that statement. He's simplifying things to make his case. Like I refuted, with facts -which I looked up and stated which- it just simply isn't the case. I get that nobody wants loading screens but hell we're not there yet and you're preaching for the divine spirit. Want to watch a sick looking 4K movie, you're gonna have to wait for that Blu-ray to load the movie. You want a enthralling open vast gaming experience, fuck you are gonna have to wait a bit before that loads for you. There's high fidelity graphics, depth of view, volumetric lighting/shading and everything that has to be rendered in real time at a certain frame rate and too low of said frame rate and you'll notice a stuttering experience. So forgive me if I disagree here, but from someone who's actually studied the making of games, 3D modeling/animation and rendering, yeah they're not just throwing new paint on an old car. These performance issues are fairly normal in gaming now, I'd expect a patch later on to rectify said issue. Like ME1, it'll take some time for them to optimize the gaming experience for said engine. ME2, once they learned the pluses and minuses using the Unreal Engine, I'm looking forward what the games at Bioware's studios come up with next. Andromeda is like ME1, not only in feel but also that they're working on a new galaxy created with a new engine, with new characters, new everything. The only advantage here was that they did have a baseline from the earlier games, unlike ME1 - which was trying to invent the wheel per se.

Personally excellent games with extremely long loading: the Fable series, the Forza Motorsport series, & the old GTA games, 2, 3, Vice City, San Andreas.

Re: the delayed response to trying to interact with merchants - FFXV has this problem, too. Jump and Talk are mapped to the same button. You run up to a merchant, try to talk, jump instead, wait 3 seconds, push the button again. I was worried it was just me but then I saw people on Youtube doing it all the time too. Drove me insane.

IDK, I really liked Just Cause 2. Got 3 on release date. The LONG load times just ruined the game for me. Every time it goes on sale for under $20 on either PS4 or XBox One I am like should I buy it again? And every time I ask around if they fixed the performance issues and they haven't so I pass.

I would have been happy with lesser graphics and shorter load times. I have played lots of pretty looking game and this is one of the few that stands out as something is wrong. I haven't played Mass Effect yet so I will not comment on that. Don't recall load time issues on GTA V on either system.

There should be a balance between appearance and load times. Or give me the option for a dumbed down graphics option that actually loads and plays smoothly.

Andromeda isn't perfect, but after spending this much time with it I believe it's an 8/10. It's pretty damn good. It does have some loading - delay issues. So much so that I wasn't aware I could use that door behind the AVP and strike missions for a while, lol. Those things just feel small tho. The animation doesn't bother me at all. I like the story which a lot of people are criticizing. I have spent 30 hours on just two of the planets, fully exploring and trying to do all the quests. The level up system is a huge improvement, especially since you can respec easily. There are some cool characters, I am not that attached to Ryder but all the companions seem interesting at least.

I think you read his post too literally. He wasn't claiming Mass Effect: Andromeda uses the same engine its predecessors did.

So, what'll it be? An inevitability due to its technical and design scope or an indication of it being released before it had been thoroughly optimised and polished?

I wish developers would stop using one button for multiple actions! It actually happens here in ME:A, too. I'll walk up to an enemy's remains to loot it (Y button), but I might be a frame too early or late and it makes me melee instead (also Y button). Lol.

Agreed. I also thought the door did nothing for a long time!!! Then I noticed there were ladders nearby, went down, and realized I could return to that spot using the door and that's how I realized the door should be able to open. You just need to be patient. Lol. My points were minor (but given Spybreak's background and knowledge, his points are understandable). Loving the story and game so far.

One button for multiple actions works really well when done correctly. Ocarina of Time uses the A button for everything and it changes on context. Miyamoto liked it so much he designed the Gamecube controller that way to center on one primary action button.

But if games don't keep up with the context-sensitive application of a multi-use button, then the whole concept stops feeling innovative and is just annoying.

Can you tell that I take breaks from writing lit reviews to comment on here? ;)

The Creation Engine is still Gamebryo that Bethesda has added to. They're going to use that engine until the sun burns out. If anyone could be accused of adding sprinkles it would be them. Not to shit on FO4, they did a pretty good overhaul in general this time. The game has problems but they aren't really tied to the engine for once.

As for Mass Effect, I would guess there is at least some carry over animations somewhere from Dragon Age Inquistion, that also used Frostbite. I'm enjoying Andromeda but I understand why people are upset. A TON of focus on cutscenes and dialogue is generally a part of all of Bioware's games. There are just so many little things in almost every little cutscene that it can become extremely distracting if you can't tune them out. How borked feet are anytime anyone walks on an incline, the weird twitch that seems to be some kind of model reset for almost half the spoken lines, T poses happening for a few frames, on top of the mediocre animation itself for a many human characters.

Engine isn't that big of a deal in general if the studio knows how to work with it, and it isn't being used in totally unintended ways, like Sonic Boom using Cryengine on the damn Wii U, and Star Citizen also using Cryengine for a multiplayer focused game when it's known for having tons of networking issues.
