Uh what? Ok, I agree it is fairly simplistic and there aren't as many powerups/fidget skills as there should be to give it more variety, perhaps because it was made by one man, but the smooth and fun combat/gameplay along with the Metroidvania feel is the best part of the game.

The worst part is clearly the amateur-ish sounding voice actors, and maybe arguably the map system and how it isn't a full traverse-able map but rather stages that are connected.
It's still extremely smooth, but for the most part I just found myself launching the fidget skill, jumping and creating a whirlwind, and then repeating ad nauseum. Not only was it the easiest way to attack enemies, but it was also the best way to rack up the combo score, and in turn the best way to earn XP. I think I actually should have played the game on hard on my first play through, to make the combat a little bit more challenging. I encourage anybody who is moderately good at games like these to start out on Hard difficulty.

I actually liked the voice acting as well.

Outland had the exact same map problem, along with pretty crappy level design overall. Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet is the only game I've played recently that had a halfway decent Metroidvania map. At least since Shadow Complex.
OK, so after reading the full story behind the making of Dust I now feel like a dick for buying it at half price.
Cheap Ass Guilt?

I also enjoyed Dust's voice acting quite a bit. I wanted a more detailed map but in the end I 100%ed the map,. Achievements, etc. so it didn't bug me too much. Definitely my 2012 game of the year.
thanks, i'll wait for a trial though. would be cool if the game played really fun because its dirt cheap at 240msp
The free trial version is now up for download if anyone was waiting to try the game before buying it:

http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Avatar-Football/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258550c7d

I've been playing all day today and it really is an amazing effort for an Indie game. They could have sold Avatar Football for $15 and I'd still get it.

Retro City Rampage is pretty good, but I got like 75% of the story done in about 6 hours. I think the demo is a fair representation of how the overall game is, so if the demo blew your mind then the game will be worth it and then some. I wish the game had more things to do but I guess we end up expecting more and more variety from arcade titles when in reality they aren't meant to rival full fledged retail titles.
First episode was free, the rest were 200 each.
Ah okay. Thanks. Darn I would've hopped on them.

I picked up Avatar Football and it's about what you would expect from a $3 football game. Lots of collision issues, simplistic game play, weak AI but for $3 I could see it being a decent couch game if you have a friend over. Not sure if it does in season mode but I found it slightly annoying that at the end of a game it didn't give you any sort of stat break down. Another issue I had was on kick offs the receiving teams defenders don't react until they have received the ball which lets you act like Bilbo Baggins with the One Ring and work you way unabated to the ball carrier.
Actually, I prefer to turn off the avatars and play with the normal football player models.

Here is some gameplay footage from some online 2 vs. 2 action last night:

Ugh, the movement looks stiff as hell. I guess you get what you pay for. I'll still try out the demo, but I have a better option in blitz the league II or APF2K8. I don't play madden

Anyone know if the dlc for dungeon defenders has ever gone on sale ?

Finally got some needed hardrive space, looking to add it

I found this comparison hilarious, just thought you should know.

Picked up 3 vs 3 NHL, it's... definitely something. It's basically the NES game aptly-named "ICE HOCKEY", which I logged many hours as a wee youngen.

If I could figure out what the trick is to scoring on the other team I would find it very enjoyable, but as it stands it's fun for a bit but in that "NO YOU DON'T, GET BACK HERE!" sort of way. I almost didn't bite since the demo is so very short that I couldn't grasp the controls and flow just replaying that one-minute over and over. And what's with a score-based game, no timed game modes? Unless I missed it.

So there's my 2c if anyone will take it.

As far as I know, the game itself has gone on sale before, but not its addons.

And the addons are 320pts each, so that's not bad....Otherwise, the dlc for DD has gone on sale for countless times on steam.

Try using the analog stick controls if you don't already. Also, checking is a big part of the game. Really, just go for the hit, thats how you get the powerups. Hit them whenever, be cheap. As for scoring goals, you can usually get it on 2 on 1's. Aim your shots manually, the powerups help too, quickly passing helps.

If you can manage to get some friends involved, its where the game shines. That's when you can play illegal as hell, stock up on powerups, and score a ton of goals

It's OK for an indie game...but I just feel like there are so many better options out there, I don't know that there's much of a point to it. The only real edge I'd give it is the ability to share rosters and plays. But the gameplay just felt clunky to me. There were times when I thought I'd be past a player, and all of a sudden I was pulled down. Catching passes was also cumbersome. I think it's exactly what another poster said...the collision detection is just very loose.

Even with as many problems as the Tecmo Bowl rehash had, I'd still say it's a better game. And of the arcade football games currently on sale, I'd actually give the nod to Blitz. It's definitely watered down from the original, but it still feels like a pretty polished game with lots of potential for fun. Madden Arcade on the other hand feels largely pointless (and not to mention very outdated at this point). It should be getting the NHL 3 on 3 200 MSP treatment at this point.

Anybody know if Major is still posting Deal of the Week. We missed 1 week (even though it was around Christmas he still had time to post everything else) and we did not get it last week, and still there were lots of other posts made by Major Nelson. So maybe he does not do it anymore.

He probably still does. He used to be very inconsistent about posting it so don't sweat it if he goes a week or two or even a month without posting the DotW.

If you look at Majors blog and twitter clearly he was working and did not bother to put it up.
But as Chrono Gear said Major Nelson can be inconsistent in posting up Deal of Week.

Weeks and/or months at a time are nothing new to the inconsistency of DotW updates. Just chillax and enjoy your new box. Worst case scenario you find out yourself Tuesday morning.

In any case, at this time of year they want you to get tunnel vision on holiday deals and impulse buy everything. Its a sound strategy.

Here's a Tweet from him on January 2 saying it was his first day back in the office since before Christmas.

If you look at his blog, pretty much every update posted between his "out of office" time was just the daily sale update, which could have easily been prepared ahead of time and set to auto-publish on the blog.

The "Coming Soon to Xbox Live" post takes a lot more research and actual work than anything that he posted during his time off, plus you can add the fact that basically nothing released on Xbox Live from December 22-January 2 anyway, so there was really no reason to create the list anyway.

He can care less mostly now. The ms virus infected him awhile. He acted all god like major turn off long ago. Bring in a hot chick then i can see why men would praise him. MN never was cool or anything in my book except a lap dog for MS. My ungodly 2 Cents. :bouncy:

You are correct. He explained on the podcast that he would be out of town and away from the internet. E was updating the blog while he was away.

Unfortunately I have more then enough points now and not during the Christmas sale. I might have picked up Dust and a few others. I won 1600 and then go the rest from that Best Buy deal of the day. What am I supposed to do with 4k points now? lol

Buy horse armor for everyone here.

OMG, that's amazing, didn't know they were so professional about it

Good for them if they can do business out of playing a game they like (I guess they do not like it so much now , it must be tiresome doing it all day long, but at least they'll be paid).

Hey all ... the Xbox Rewards "fitness" promo was recently refreshed by Xbox Rewards to say "all addons for the list of games below", which now gives us a definite list of 800 MSP to spend, and where to spend 20 hours of gameplay. Regretfully, "Brain Challenge" and "Power Rangers Super Samurai" are no longer amongst the valid games, but at least the list is correct now.

Check out the Rewards wiki for more info ... http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=292253

I bet they just get all the accounts together and boost for the ranks/Achievements.

And you could get banned from Xbox Live (either directly or as reported by Activision) for boosting gamerscore, achievements, or other in-game progress.

Woah, 1000 wins for $12? Someone has no concept of the term "opportunity costs". I imagine they can make a heck of a lot more in the same amount of time mopping floors at McDonald's. Obviously, they use this opportunity to take info from your account in some way.

Im sure they exploit, play tons of accounts at once, and outsource to 3rd world nations where they pay pennies

Or they hack

So, Monday night decisions, decided to cave in and get Diabolical Pitch for 400 MSP. And as much as it pains me to do it, I'm gonna have to skip Puzzle Quest Galactrix for now. The 800 MSP price point + horror stories about the timed hacking puzzles turned me off too much.

I'm in the same boat about Galactrix. I have a feeling I'm going to regret it though.

Now that I've taken advantage of the [POST=10291393]2 months of Gold for $2[/POST] when my account dropped to silver, the savings on Deal of the Week better cover the costs for the next couple months ;). This past week of deals was a wash for me, and I'll have about 8 or so more chances for some fine deals from my Gold Membership. Although new XBLA titles were discounted for the first time ever this past week, but I've evaluated the titles based on my level of interest, price, likelihood of completion from my backlog with respect to the potential of EA server shutdown.
There are definitely good and bad Achievements. Frankly, nobody likes the ones for winning X number of online games, especially when X is greater than 10. It gets even worse when the publisher might shut the servers down as EA loves to do. But like you said, some devs think of really creative ones that get you to play in fun ways or encourage you to try modes that you might otherwise overlook.
Even if it appears the earlier retail disc release of NBA Jam will have its servers shut down, I really got to put the XBLA NBA Jam: On Fire Edition towards the top of my priorities in my backlog just in case EA intends on shutting it down as well in the relatively near future (some EA titles had their servers shut down, within a short time without a proper replacement game). EA's frequent server shutdowns compels me to get the online achievements while they are still available, even when I am not much of an achievement whore (I will try to be an achievement hunter, achievements can be fun goals as eastx describes, but I will not stress if I do not get achievements), but that's the thing: I just don't like the idea of potential game-playing fun to be taken from me.

With the possibility of the Durango, Xbox 362, or whatever you want to call it for now, on the horizon, Live support for my current XBLA and 360 titles are all probably numbered. I had no idea original Xbox titles could still be played on Live at one time since most backwards compatible titles logged me out of Live when played on the 360 so I assumed online was unavailable, until I got word the service was to be discontinued (I imagine Burnout 3 would have been great). So not only EA server shutdowns (along with NBA 2k games, Chromehounds, Phantasy Star Universe, and others) the thought extends to the rest of the Xbox 360 titles on my backlog. I will never get to have my one remaining Low Rider achievement on 1 vs. 100, and that makes me sad about a missed opportunity .

With all the achievement and backlog talk, don't worry, I am constantly working slowly through my backlog. [On a side note, I almost got the Lunar Eclipse achievement for the Moon Knight table on Pinball FX2, until I hit 42 of 50 and went full retard; I did notice on the Pinball FX2 table selection screen, 4 of the PS3 tables from Zen Pinball got released as a pack, and would love to add to my backlog if those will ever get a discount on 360.] I don't mind adding more to my backlog with great games at great prices. I'm just concerned for the titles I do have may have features taken away due to a lack of online servers in the future.
Got an email about new screenshots for Zeno Clash 2 that also mentions Zeno Clash UE on XBLA will be 50% off this week:

zcii-blast_04.jpg
I didn't get that e-mail so was the offer for Zeno Clash: Ultimate Edition the deal for last week or this upcoming week? It had been offered at a discount price before, and I passed up on it because I felt like it did not appeal enough to my tastes on initial impressions (it is ugly, not technically wrong, just not aesthetically pleasing to my eye; it is like looking at all the fugly of default 360 Oblivion/Skyrim NPCs: they hit every branch of the ugly tree on the way down, then the developers say "you are ready" - but the game can still be fun). I hope there is more tomorrow for me to get.

Without reliance on Deal of the Week, the Sales & Specials + app also offered some repeat discounts. I maintain my purchasing decision to stick with just the first Puzzle Quest on the 360 (and it was wonderful at 400MSP), but I still crave a discount for The Revenge of the Plague Lord DLC which clings to that 700MSP price point like it doesn't want me to play it. Every time any of the Puzzle Quest games goes on discount, it always comes to my mind and I am always disappointed by the DLC's absence.

Here's hoping to a good upcoming week of deals. The week is already looking up with Max Anarchy to be out today at a base price of $30USD (normally I'd wait for disc titles to go cheaper, but I figure a :puke: Gamestop preorder also includes the Bayonetta character and a couple of game modes DLC, which will probably sell later on the Xbox marketplace for I estimate about 240MSP, has enough value for me even without a discount). I'll be paying attention to this thread for all the updates.

EDIT: Since there is no new DotW thread for the new year, I'll just tack on an early year hope for this year on XBLA. I've already covered what I am looking forward to in 2013 on XBLA along with the titles I still want on discount in previous posts, so I would like to just add to my wall of text by asking you to imagine. Imagine a GigaWing collection on XBLA; Capcom and Takumi, make it happen. Capcom already does quite a few fighting game collection re-releases on XBLA, I'm looking forward to Darkstalkers Resurrection as mentioned before, but I've had great memories with GigaWing (1)'s ridiculously large numbers for scores (somehow large numbers are fun) and GigaWing 2 characters yelling "reflect force" and "reflect lazer" (all the time especially when played 4-players, where I start feeling bad for the games bosses). Granted I've not played GigaWing Generations, but I imagine that'd be really great in addition to the rest of the collection with the side accomplishments, art galleries, and maybe developer insights as an XBLA title, that one I imagine I could even pay a whole 1200MSP for! [also, I know of Mars Matrix's greatness too, tack that on and yep definately 1200MSP for me] End imaginationland edit =P
