Not sure of where else to post, but this seems like one of the more active threads so hopefully someone can give me some guidance here.
I bought a Day One XB1 in Nov 2013, a few months later (March 2014) I had it replaced due to the "disc drive grinding" that was one of the issues some consoles had out at launch. They sent me a refurb and over the past few months I have noticed that the disc drive has started not reading discs consistently. Around the holidays it was only sporadic and on a couple games, but at this point it is almost every game and the only way to have it read discs is to "eject, and re insert" until it eventually spins the disc up.
So I contact MS and they basically tell me that even though they sent me a refurbished system 10 months ago, that the warranty defaults back to the original purchase date Nov 13 and since this is now outside of the 1 year warranty they will not cover repairs the console. I had thought they would at least warranty the refurb for as long as the original console, but they are telling me that isn't the case. When I pushed them on the issue the CS rep I had implied that the policy was this way to discourage people from "taking advantage of the system" and getting a new console every 12 months. I told them I have a console that doesn't work and is broken for the 2nd time in 14 months and they won't stand behind their product.
I guess I'm asking what my options are here. Should I call in and try to push it with someone higher up at MS or am I just wasting my time at this point? Trade it in somewhere and get a $350 console bundle? Cut my losses and move to PS4? lol
