Xbox One - General Discussion Thread

Borderlands in 4 player split screen is quite an awesome concept and you gotta love cross-saves!

Yeah FM5 had a rough launch but they've updated it since then. They added a track via update but I agree, more tracks def.

Yeah, oh man I can't wait for The Witcher 3 and Batman AK!
Im so looking foward to Bordrelands, Destiny didnt quite do it for me as a loot based shooter.

Haven't had a single disconnected controller problem and probably use my xbox one an hour or two each night
Same.

I'm more of a USB, media player kind of guy myself lol. Then again I downloaded a ton of Mp3s over the years.

SO I'm working at BB now and I'm very surprised how many people tell me they have a Xbox One. Also a couple of people that own a Xbox 360 but have never heard of Gears of War! Waawwhaawhhhaaat!?

I had to have a straight face when someone asked me how Assassin's Creed Unity was. Lol, that and how many people were disappointed with Destiny. It's a perfect thing to go oh hey did you hear Gearbox is bringing the Borderlands games to Xbox One and PS4? LOOT!  :D/

Don't forget to take advantage of your new position to get into Microsoft Expert Zone and Sony RLS (if you are into Sony products too). Free stuff for learning about new games is always a bonus!

I'd love to have a Spotify app, but I'd be fine using Xbox Music more if they would just add background music support so I can listen to music without the app having to be snap. I'd also like if they added a "Music Controls" menu to the Power Down menu that way I could control said app without having to snap it and then unsnap it when I'm done making the change I want.

On a side note I'm loving the controller update. No disconnects so far and I also feel like pressing the home button has been a lot more responsive for me where as before the update sometimes I'd need to press the button several times before it responded and took me back home.

I miss being able to take advantage of those when I was working at Gamestop. MS Expert Zone was always awesome.

So there is no way now to watch full episodes of "Arrow" via the CW app on XB1? I know you used to be able to during season two.

Question if this is possible. So would it be possible to plug a PS4/WiiU into the xbox one and use it via the tv app like you would with a cable box? I ask because I use xbox to communicate with my friends and I don't communicate with anyone on PS4 since they are either on Steam/xbox. It would be much easier for me to plug the PS4 into the xbox so I can get notifications while playing PS4.

I can't speak for performance, but I remember reading that very thing is possible. You wouldn't be able to stream 360 or PS3 games via the Twitch app or anything of that nature.

Short answer yes, you can but you're not going to like how it is. The long answer is there'll be alot of input lag doing it this way as the other system has to go into the Xbox One before it goes to the TV. It's not recommended.

I downloaded it. At least it was free because I wouldn't spend money on it.
It was nothing like I expected, but I love it. The styles of art and humor employed appeal greatly to me, but I understand how others might feel the exact opposite way.

This is a game that rewards you with a legitimate real-life food recipe for each achievement you unlock. If nothing else, IDARB is a very unique and creative concept.

Not sure of where else to post, but this seems like one of the more active threads so hopefully someone can give me some guidance here.

I bought a Day One XB1 in Nov 2013, a few months later (March 2014) I had it replaced due to the "disc drive grinding" that was one of the issues some consoles had out at launch.   They sent me a refurb and over the past few months I have noticed that the disc drive has started not reading discs consistently.  Around the holidays it was only sporadic and on a couple games, but at this point it is almost every game and the only way to have it read discs is to "eject, and re insert" until it eventually spins the disc up.

So I contact MS and they basically tell me that even though they sent me a refurbished system 10 months ago, that the warranty defaults back to the original purchase date Nov 13 and since this is now outside of the 1 year warranty they will not cover repairs the console.  I had thought they would at least warranty the refurb for as long as the original console, but they are telling me that isn't the case.  When I pushed them on the issue the CS rep I had implied that the policy was this way to discourage people from "taking advantage of the system" and getting a new console every 12 months.  I told them I have a console that doesn't work and is broken for the 2nd time in 14 months and they won't stand behind their product.

I guess I'm asking what my options are here. Should I call in and try to push it with someone higher up at MS or am I just wasting my time at this point?  Trade it in somewhere and get a $350 console bundle?  Cut my losses and move to PS4?  lol

Another option is to keep it but just by digital games, but it stinks for the drive to be broken. If I really needed the drive to work, I'd try to trade it in somewhere and buy a new one.

Yea, I mainly had been playing my digital copy of Destiny so that is probably why I didn't notice the issue until recently. It is an option I'd consider, but I'm one of 'those' people that prefer not to go fully digital, but I guess MS shoddy hardware might force me to go that direction, lol.

Why not just spend the 115 dollar repair fee from MS?
I guess that is more a matter of principal at this point since I don't feel they have stood behind their product. Plus the refurb they sent me only lasted 10 months so I'm not sure paying them to fix it is worth is especially if I will have no warranty protection at all.

They should replace it. I'm firm in my stance they should replace any consoles that were original purchases for a very long time. No one else was buying the system. Support your true consumers, not the people who finally bought one cause it was cheaper.

This is the reason I buy extended warranties. These game systems are so unreliable, that it's silly not to buy one. It's nice to know that for 3 years, my consoles are covered. And it was less than $100 to cover both the X1 and the PS4.

I find this to be a pretty crappy thought process. You aren't entitled to anything just because you picked up the console at launch and having some elitist "I'm your true customer!" attitude over it is silly.

Yeah I bought one as well. I'm not sure why you wouldn't buy a roughly $70-$80 warranty in the event that your $400-$500 purchase breaks past its warranty date.

GLOCKGLOCK, try the following in contacting Phil Spencer, who's the CEO of the Xbox division of MS:

Tweet: https://twitter.com/xboxp3

Email: [email protected]

Explain your situation to him calmly/rationally, as well as if you've been a 360 and OG Xbox owner, and something might come out from it.  Email might be better than a tweet, though you never know.

I also put extended warranties on all three of the current gen consoles and it's a small price to pay to make sure three years covers you for any issues that might come up.

In other news Sony has sold off Sony Online Entertainment (Primarily featured for all their MMO games) to an investment group and the studio (Now named Daybreak Game Company) will also be making games for other platforms (Read Xbox One) and mobile.

There have already been tweets from staff members and CEO John Smedley indicating excitement towards making Xbox One games. Some IP's they own include PlanetSide 2, DC Universe Online and H1Z1.

I called on the phone after getting confusing info in another chat session today.  For some reason the Day One system I returned in March 2014 is still showing on my account and the warranty runs through April 2016?  I have no idea how that is even possible.  So they started a return on that system and said it would be covered, but I told them that the console I was going to send back does not have that s/n on it.    They told me to confirm the number when I get home and they could transfer that warranty over to the one I'm sending over, so hopefully that is possible.  For some reason I feel like I am going to end up on the phone for waaaaay to long though.

I am always against buying extended warranty plans on items, but if I ever participate in another generation of the console wars this might have changed my mind.  Seems bad that we have to buy extended warranties that cost that much, but the failure rate for consoles seem so high compared to other appliances.  Either way I am thoroughly confused and frustrated by this entire situation.  At the end of the day, all I want is a console that works and that is not because I spend X amount of dollars per year on their products, but because standing behind your product is good business.  12 month warranty for a console that has a 5+ year life cycle is pretty bare bones.  Even worse is that I have had one console last 3 months and the refurb last 10 months and that somehow puts me out of warranty.

I wasn't trying to come off as elitist or anything. I would just go to lengths to give consumers product support if things like a disc drive start to fail slightly outside of the warranty time. The consumer isn't doing something destructive to the machine.

The problem is you have to draw the line somewhere. One Year warranties are fine and they're a standard across electronics as a whole. If you start giving people a break every once in awhile then you risk pissing off your customers who aren't getting that same benefit. Paying $70 isn't asking a lot to get an extra three years of protection on your system compared to having to pay $100+ if you run into an issue down the road.

I thought I was crazy, but I also had a 2015 expiration date for my warranty on the launch console. I was unregistering it from my profile when swapped it for the titanfall bundle

Microsoft Extended the standard one year warranty when people registered their consoles on the warranty website. New date was either January 17th 2015 or for some people sometime in February 2015.

Also note if you're based outside the US your warranty will likely be longer since several European Countries have standard 2 year warranties.

Yeah, my warranty expire on the 27th on this month.  It's better to be safe than sorry with extended warranties, but I don't anticipate this system breaking down on me anytime soon.  Had very good luck with the 360 S as well.

The next issue of Gameinformer will have Rise of the Tomb Raider info.

Is there really no copy all feature in storage management?  I'd like to copy all my games on my external harddrive and use the internal harddrive as a redundant backup because installing games is a pain in the ass on the one.

I still prefer the T-Rex as an ultimate adversary. Ironically I just went back to Tomb Raider on the 360. I've got a lot of catching up in that game before I break out the definitive edition.

Sounds really incredible, I wish they would nix the 360 version though and just focus on the X1. I can see this selling a lot of consoles for them this holiday
OMG I have to play that game right now. Is Uncharted 4 this year or next year? Those are my favorite type of non sports games.

If you have the definitive edition why not just jump into that one?

I'm not sure that bolting more actions onto that quick snap menu thing is a great way to handle it. I'd kind of prefer some sort of button combo like how Vita does it at the least since there isn't a dedicated button for this stuff like on PS4. It needs to be something you could activate on the fly while playing the game.

Isn't it pretty much the same thing? On the PS4 you hit the share button then press "Save Screenshot" on the Xbox One you'd double tap the home button and hit "Save Screenshot". Given the fact Home Button has gotten a lot more responsive since the latest update I'd say it's a fine implementation.

That being said I'd also like to go through my Gameclips and take individual screenshots from them.

No. I just press the share button and a screenshot is automatically saved. Double press to start capturing video and hold it down to bring up the Share menu. It's even customizable to change those to your liking.
