Steam Cardz update:

We've made some small updates today related to yesterday's update

Booster Pack Eligibility - you can now confirm your eligibility for a booster pack drop from your badges page. Just click on "How do I earn card drops", and the dialog will tell you if you are eligible to receive booster packs for that game. More information about booster packs has also been added to the Trading Card FAQ.

No game count / game count of 0 - We've fixed an issue where some users had a game count of 0 after yesterday's update.

Game count off by 1 - The "Company of Heroes 2 Beta" was counting towards everyone's game count. This has been fixed, but that means your game count on your profile may be 1 lower than it was earlier today.

Level colors for levels 20-29, and 30-39 - The colors for these levels have been changed to match our intended design. 20-29 is now orange (was yellow), 30-39 is now yellow (was purple).
level colors are like karate belts. Who's getting black first ;)

Someone explain the obvious to me -- Do I have to be logged into a specific game to receive its Booster pack?  As in, am I in for more idling in Triple Town or HL2?

I explained that yesterday and if you logged on to CAG 24-7 like me you would have seen it.

But yeah, it just says "use Steam" and someone reported logging out of Steam overnight and logging in to find a new booster pack in their inventory the next morning.

That is kinda freaky, I copy/pasted that within Steam, I wasn't expecting it to transfer all the colors/links/stuff perfectly like that.
you have to select it and click the little eraser if you want to have it as plain text (or if you are in chrome you can paste it directly as that). It's handy at times, but also annoying at others, but ultimately I like the CAG 3.0 editor.

For those of you who have received all of your drops for a game but aren't eligible for a booster pack, just restart Steam. I was having the same problem, but that seemed to fix it.

Also, I wish there was an option to see badge progress on games you have gotten all the card drops, but sold them all. As it is right now, there's no other way to see if you're eligible for a booster pack drop or not (though it's probably safe to assume you are if you've gotten all the drops).

Just a word to the wise on the new editor.  If you copy and paste keys/links from other sites/places they will sometimes have embedded links to your profiles, accounts, etc.  So you might want to do a double check or plain text when you do that.

Edit:

Also, testing out this new groups feature:

It's a bit tedious, but if you go to any game's badge progress and replace the app id in the url with that of the game that you want to view the badge progress for, that's a way to view it. It's tedious and should be easier, but for now that's a workaround.

I love owning The WarZ cuz I get emails like this first:

Effective today, The War Z has changed its name to Infestation: Survivor Stories. This change has come about primarily as a result of some confusion and trademark issues with a similarly titled property. While we were reluctant to rename the game so long after launch, especially with nearly 1 million registered players, it was ultimately decided to be in the best interest of our existing community as well as future players in order to eliminate confusion. Please rest assured that this will in NO WAY affect you as players. The only difference you will see is the change in logo and website. There will be no interruption of service or change in content.
Translation: We're hoping that by changing the name we'll be able to trick a few more people into buying our game. It's still the same piece of shit, but now some people might not realize that until after they've given us their money.

If the name change would have happened prior to it going on sale, then that scenario would have been much more likely.

They're milking it more than you think. They're milking sales on people willing to give WarZ a spin @ $3.75, and they'll milk it again from people who wouldn't buy WarZ but will take a chance on Infected gamey.

I actually think this has a lot to do with the World War Z movie coming out soon; it's been heavily advertised on television in my area. There was probably some strong pressure put on them by someone associated with the film/book to change it. I rather suspect they wanted to keep the "The War Z" name because people would continue to associate it with the "Day Z" mod that it was based on.

For those running Enhanced Steam, the next version for Chrome (by the end of the week, most likely) will include a link on the store page for games that have cards to the card page for that game. Details here.

sheesh, I don't know how you manage to implement all these features so fast, but big thanks as ever for all your hard work! Valve is missing out on some serious talent right here, no doubt about it :applause:

Is The Secret World worth picking up? Looks interesting.
Browse back a few pages. Your question has been discussed in a reasonable amount of detail.

I'm skeptical. I was pre-launch beta and it was a complete mess. I haven't followed it since then, but I'm curious to know how much they've managed to patch and polish it up. Still, even $3.75 sounds expensive for what I saw.

Edit: Wait, $15? Aww, hell no.

The War Z is still a complete mess.  It's just not an 'on par' game by any stretch of the imagination, and yet, somehow, it has a lot of defenders.

But oh well, at least it scored a point higher than Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing, the creator's previous title.  I am all about defending a game based upon it's own merit, what it presents, free of outside influences, but nothing about the War Z, in my opinion playing it, was fun or polished.  It was really bad.  And the microtransaction pricing model is pretty exploitative.

But hey, as always, buyer beware.  Know what you're buying before you commit.

Wouldn't really recommend it for $15. Does a few cool things but it'd work way better as a real singleplayer game instead of a shitty MMO with a fun setting and surprisingly good voice acting. Could even keep the basic layout and quest VO and everything, just remove MMO and staple on some generic action-RPG button mashing for combat and you'd get an improvement.

Unless you've got a massive "Modern fantasy setting" boner I'd say skip it. And if you do, I'd recommend Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines a hell of a lot earlier than I'd recommend TSW. If you do AND you've already played Bloodlines then maybe.

Anyone saying anything negative about TSW either hasn't played it after the beta or didn't play far enough into the game (or wasn't smart enough to "get it"). No offense, but that's the truth.

Extremely detailed The Secret World review below:

Best current MMO out there, in my opinion. Incredible combat system, highly talented voice actors, excellent writing, tons of customization, challenging gameplay, and best of all, you're getting what you pay for. No hoops to jump through; you pay once and you never have to pay again (unless you want cosmetics or a couple new mission packs). You also get enough cash shop points through gameplay (after you finish 30 missions, which isn't a whole lot) to buy a mission pack (I believe there are two for sale right now, although issue #5 may come with the game now, I'm not sure). So you're getting free DLC through gameplay.

I'm gonna spoiler the rest of my post into sections... because it's long.

[customSPOILER=Crafting/Loot]The only thing that I think could have been done better in TSW is the crafting. Admittedly, I didn't do a whole lot of it, so I may not be the best judge, but it is a bit boring and complicated. The loot system is also not extremely exciting, since talismans (armor in the game) and weapons are simply _____ Sword, _____ Pendant, etc, with the blank being filled in by a descriptor like "Ruthless" (accuracy and critical boost), or "Stalwart" (defense boost), etc.

There are still different levels and rarity of loot (the typical MMO quality system, white

Well, I'm probably the only defender of The WarZ around here, but I really don't see the big deal about it being so "bad." I've played far worse, more broken, less fun, frustrating games. In fact, I probably run across one every week from a random indie bundle or whim. I tried playing Planet Alcatraz a month back and if you want boring, broken, and not fun, go and try that one :)

It's far from a perfect game, but its certainly competent enough to scratch a certain itch if that's what you are looking for. It just has too many non-game play things going against it. It's a game with no real point or storyline (just like DayZ), so the same people who are all "DayZ is a stupid game, it has no point" make the same complaint about it. It's rip off of DayZ that was rushed and lied about it so that gets it bad press. It got hacked. It banned 1000s of users unfairly at one point. It got taken off of Steam, etc.

If it was just another bland indie platformer thrown into a bundle, no one would care that much, but because it has gotten all this bad press/animosity towards it then its the popular thing to rag on it. Many times from people who haven't even played it.

With all that said, people have all the right to play it and not like, not all games are made for everyone and it certainly isn't the type of or quality of game that would have me running and recommending it to everyone I know, but it certainly has a good amount of users that play it regularly and get some joy out of it.

Extremely detailed The Secret World review below:

WALL OF TEXT
Even after reading the state of the game in its current form, I still can't find a single person who can answer the question, "Is it fun? Does it stick with you for years after playing it?" So far all people rave about is the setting, the maturity, and the skill system. Everything else sounds rather run-of-the-mill and is an MMO for adventure/horror fans. Seeing as how I've played nearly every MMO translated to english since Ultima Online, I welcome the change of scenery. However, fans of the game seem to only latch onto a few redeeming, unique features and either a) fail to recognize the shortcomings of the game as a whole or b) don't care to share them.

It seems like the summary of every review is "Despite its shortcomings, for what is there it's a great game." Doesn't sell me. I wish they'd release a trial period or guest passes so I can not only get a second take on the game, but also make sure it runs on my laptop which has become my primary gaming rig. I can justify plunking down $5 on a game that has potential and sitting around to wait and see what happens with it, but I can't justify $15+ for something I don't even know I'll like. Being on a fixed income really puts certain things into a different perspective.

Regardless, thank you for your detailed take on the game. I am intrigued by it, but more-so wary.

If it was just another bland indie platformer thrown into a bundle, no one would care that much, but because it has gotten all this bad press/animosity towards it then its the popular thing to rag on it. Many times from people who haven't even played it
To be fair, a lot of the things you list are bigger than "Yet another indie platformer. Maybe with physics!" in terms of being an issue. And you didn't bring up the cash shop at all.

Haven't played it so you might be right about the actual gameplay itself, but it does have a lot of reasons to be wary about it right out of the gate. I know it was enough to keep me away from it during the sale.

Well, I'm probably the only defender of The WarZ around here, but I really don't see the big deal about it being so "bad." I've played far worse, more broken, less fun, frustrating games. ... It's far from a perfect game, but its certainly competent enough to scratch a certain itch if that's what you are looking for. It just has too many non-game play things going against it. ... It's rip off of DayZ that was rushed and lied about it so that gets it bad press. It got hacked. It banned 1000s of users unfairly at one point. It got taken off of Steam, etc.
You totally contradicted yourself. It sounds like a Michael Bay movie (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, anyone?) Remind me again why you defend it? It's like saying, "It's pretty good for being a horrible knock-off and a sub-par mess!" Color me baffled.

The game is still an MMO. If you're not a fan of MMOs, you probably won't like it as much as the next guy. That said, it avoids a lot of common issues that I find in MMOs, such as forcing you to party up to do anything worthwhile, bad B2P/F2P/subscription policies, annoying cash shop systems, etc. It does things right.

As for how fun it is, yeah, it's an awesome, fun game. I don't really praise games unless I enjoy them, I find that pointless. The game is very well put together. It captured my imagination and my time for quite awhile, and the only reason I haven't played in awhile is because the area I was in was difficult for me solo and I'm picky about doing certain things solo. That and I wanted to try some other MMOs (I moved onto SWTOR next, which was fun, but was nowhere near as good as TSW).

There's even a Twitter ARG type thing for TSW if you're into roleplaying a bit. If I wasn't clear enough before, I'll say it clearly now, The Secret World is fun.

Now can we talk about how Duke Nukem Forever is a good game, considering that it borrows aspects from many popular series without taking itself too seriously and being another stupid COD clone?

Well, I've never been to the cash shop nor do I ever anticipate going to it. I never actually do for most games and unless it's F2P I would consider a game a failure (for me) if I had to pump more cash to enjoy it after I paid for it. I've gotten my fun out of it without going to the cash shop. To me, it's a game about scavenging and surviving as long as you can. It's a little more exciting to me to just walk around and make do with what I have/found.

I don't see how admitting a game has flaws, but you still enjoy it is totally contradicting myself.

Also, The Secret World is fun and a good game. I'm not addicted to MMOs so I can only compare it the only other one I've played for more than a day and it blows WOW out of the water IMO. I can't tell you if it will stick to me for years since, well, you know it's not been out a year.

I've barely scratched the surface of TSW yet, but to me the two most appealing things are (1) is not set in yet another high fantasy world, and (2) it has a player-friendly non-subscription model.

There is room for a diversity of opinions.

Just looking at the cover art makes me think I need to be in my early twenties and shop at the Banana Republic to enjoy the game.  Anyone remember when the Banana Republic was good?  Like twenty years ago when a guy didn't have to weigh under 120 pounds to wear their clothes.

I like to buy my clothes from Buddhist clothiers in Nepal, so what you're describing sounds painfully mainstream.

Clothes are too mainstream.

I'm sorry but the correct answer was: I make my own clothes.

There's a fine line between hipster and Amish, and you just crossed it. Prepare for the wicking of a lifetime whenever they discover the internet!

Not sure if worth it, even if it's free after rebate..
Worth it to me, even with my fond memories of the old AVP games (not the marine campaign, never liked those). I'll be going into it looking for trash and possibly being pleasantly surprised at its failures.

I'm pretty sure I want Gunpoint now, not because I believe I would enjoy playing it (I'm not sold on the mechanics at this point), but primarily because of this (update from 6/18):

Bug fixes

- You can't change the past. At least, you can't change more than the first 11 missions of the past. At least, you can't if you don't have a scroll wheel on your mouse. At least, you couldn't until this patch, which fixes that. The Up and Down keys (W/S) now work to scroll through the Previous Missions menu.

- With apologies to Mad Men fans, knocking the final boss through his own office window no longer causes him to fall in extreme slow motion.

- If you bought so many batteries that you can no longer afford the Gatecrashers needed for the final mission, a) wow, and b) you can now sell batteries at that point. Unless your battery fixation prevents you from parting with them, in which case your adventure ends here.

- Due to new breakthroughs in microphone technology, Sound Detectors are now so sensitive they can even pick up gunshots. (They previously only triggered if the player was the one who fired).

- Did you know you can patch a soundtrack? We patched the soundtrack so that the track numbering makes more sense for the Special Edition.

- You can no longer teleport backwards through left-facing windows by pressing Down. Sorry speedrunners.

New features

- If you're having music problems, I feel bad for you son. So I'm working hard to fix them, and in the meantime I've added a button to restart the music: press M if you're not hearing music and should be.

I've been avoiding TSW mainly because I believed it should be played in groups. Now that I know you can go solo, I'll wait for the next amazon sale. It can be played with a "simple" mouse? Or you need a Naga or something like that?

You don't need a naga, especially if you're just playing solo. Solo you can pretty much face roll on your key board or click abilities and win. There isn't anything "hard". It's until you group and do elite and nightmare dungeons that you actually need to equip specific abilities and time them right to win.

TSW has far more interesting quests, voice acting, story lines, puzzle mechanics, and settings than anything on the market. Sadly they are coupled to slow combat that is average for the genre, a poorly optimized engine, and lackluster townhubs. The setting feels too real to be grandiose in any sense.

I do love the stealth missions. Yes, stealth quests in an MMO. The integrated web browser. The characters. And killing things can sometimes be fun.

If there's anything I'd change, I'd polish the graphics, engine, and optimize stuff. Animations aren't bad, but could use a bit more work. If you have a very nice pc, it looks fairly good though. It's just hard to run DX11 on higher settings. I wish things died a bit faster too. It can get boring killing things for a quest when it takes so many shots to end them.

The game's sense of humor is amazing. If you liked Deadly Premonition, you'll like TSW. It's a Deadly Premonitionesque MMO.

so nice you said it twice ;) Now I just feel like I should play Deadly Premonition instead, but I wonder how many more games with horrible frame rates I can play for the story :headache:
