The Ratchet and Clank games are really fun if you don't mind 3D platformers. I'm a pretty big fan of Super Mario 64 and Galaxy and I think I actually like the Ratchet and Clank games better than those. The camera doesn't seem to be as problematic and there are some good chuckles to be had.

I ended up buying the collection even though I already owned the first one from that last sale. Picked up MK for PS3 and Vita, Batman AA (even though I own it on PC), Prince of Persia, Hotline Miami and Farming Simulator. The last two aren't on sale, but still cheap to me. Planning on getting Silent Hill, Alice and the PoP trilogy tomorrow.

Not sure why I bought so much, but after getting back from the bank and immediately hearing the news about Ryan Davis and sitting on the PS Store for 30 minutes without being able to focus on what I was doing, I just said screw it.

I imagine if I've never played a ratchet and clank game the $7.50 deal for the pack is a must buy? Could someone tell me why or why I shouldn't buy it? Haha

So far I've only bought SOTC and Batman AA.

Planned on POP classic trilogy and Alice Madness returns for tomorrow....
I could list a thousand reasons why I love the R&C franchise, but really at that price I can't think of any reason NOT to get it. One of my all time favorite series, Up Your Arsenal being one of my top games of all time, it is definitely a must play one way or another. Also should take precedence over Madness Returns, but I won't annoy anyone by ranting about that game again >.>

Don't know if it's been mentioned on this thread yet or not, but the DLC for Alice: Madness Returns is now free, which is actually the full game of the first Alice game.  So tomorrow I'll be picking up both games for a grand total of $4 :)

I do have that $20 PSN card coming in the mail from that PS+ and card deal.

I might pick up Alice:Madness Returns and Prince of Persia HD Collection.

Anyone have any thoughts about the latter?

The first game is an absolute classic, the second isn't bad but much more combat focused and the prince goes all emo and angsty, the third is somewhere in between. All in all a very good collection.

Many times. Technically since that was the online pass it was always free with digital and new copies. Still, it's a nice bonus that those of us who bought it on PC did not get.

Alice: Madness Returns for $4?

Eh what the heck? I ordered 3 10$ codes from GS fine and got them instantly earlier this week. Just ordered a 4th to have it say wait 12 hours while my order is being reviewed?

My address was out of date and needed to be changed, still never had this problem though

Maybe they have some secret limit that once you hit it they check it to make sure someone isn't just emptying your bank account.

Was planning to grab the PoP trilogy tomorrow but might grab Forgotten Sands as well, the full game trial was pretty fun though that will be a lot of PoP to play (though still less than what I have left of the God of War series).  Still waiting for Mortal Kombat to download so I can try it, one of those things that I want to buy because it's $5 but I just got rid of the fight stick and all my fighting games and every time I watch a video the gore... probably going to be too much.

Almost feeling guilty that I have still yet to play a Ratchet and Clank game (didn't even play the free PS+ one). Don't see myself picking up the old trilogy even at a great price. Want to get through some of this backlog even if it means I miss out on some deals.

Then again, I'll probably pick up Alice just because those games intrigue me.

On the plus side, I absolutely hated the multiplayer in BF3 so I won't be using up any more playing time on that.

Thanks again to Frisky for all the work he puts into this thread.

Man, over three hours total to download and install MK.  I'm super torn over it though.  On the one hand it plays great and is only $5.  On the other when it decides to get gooey for the sake of being gooey I just feel like turning it off, the characters do nothing for me and that the females are all the same chick in a bikini doesn't help.

The Ratchet and Clank trilogy were some of my favorite PS2 games and probably in the top 5 game worlds for me.  Just pure fun with no major gameplay issues though I am sure the first game or two are a little dated now.

I'm finding it really hard to resist giving in to buying Mortal Kombat for only $5. I want the Komplete version for around $10 - $15. And so far, the only thing that prevents me from purchasing MK for $5 is the 10 GB of download.

Already picked up Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sand, and will be picking up the Prince of Persia: The Classic Collection. As for the God of War series, I only have GoW 3, Ascension and the Orginal Collection still to be completed.

Mortal Kombat Komplete for PS3 is $15 on Amazon right now, although it's currently out of stock.

got colossus and mortal kombat. Debating if I should get arkham asylum just to play as joker.. I have the 360 goty version

And from today's new sales I think I am gonna pick up Alice, force unleashed 2 & Lego batman 2

Edit: that mk download was a real #####..even on Verizon FiOS with an Ethernet connection

Just a warning: the Prince of Persia Trilogy has numerous bugs. The collection really does a disservice to the original versions.

The PC ports of these three games frequently go on sale for $2.50 a pop and I'd imagine any computer built in the past five years could easily run the games at their max graphical settings.

thanks for the warning, I think I will wait for a steam sale like you said (only missing Warrior Within anyway).

I couldn't help myself. I bought Mortal Kombat...I bought a $10 card to just get Alice, but once I got a free month of PSN+, I had more money to play with. It sucks that MK is 10GB, but I figured I could make space and always re-download some of my items.

*Quick question, can you use flash drives to expand the Playstation memory? (Similar to how you can with Xbox 360)

been thinking slient hill   for the last week.. now when its time to buy it  im not sure if i want it for 7.50  LOL

can buy it download for 7.50

can buy it cart at gamestop for  12.60

Only for media items unfortunately (music, movies, pictures, etc). I'm not sure if you could use them as just a place to store the games and move them back onto the HDD when you have space again, but that doesn't really sound worth it to me :whistle2:(

Don't think this has been asked yet so here it is.

I haven't played any of the Ratchet and Clank games. So how do the original 3 compare to the new ps3 series of Ratchet and Clank games? Just want to know what ones to get later if I get this HD collection so I can complete the "collection"

Do yourself a favor, and don't play that one. If you do, you will likely not want to play the good games in the series. That one is far and away the worst of the Ratchet games (full disclosure, I never played the PSP games). I have played and loved every game for the PS2 and PS3, but that one was a struggle to finish for me. Even Full Frontal Assault which deviates from the standard formula and is more a tower defense game was much better than that one.

I think you really want to play them in order personally. The games are all great, IMO (except All 4 One as I mentioned above). However, there are gameplay improvements and changes as the series evolved. I think it might be difficult to play the newer ones and go back to the older ones.

The ones that carry on from those are Tools of Destruction (PS3) and A Crack in Time (PS3). The same characters and general world are used in All 4 One and Full Frontal Assault but neither are really main games in the series, IMO. Deadlocked is a fun game, but it is more arena challenge based than the others plus it has a standalone story line.

If you play the first 3 and like the series, I would definitely get Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time. I would also suggest picking up FFA on PSN if for no other reason but to get Deadlocked for free with it.

My order from best to worst

Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
Ratchet & Clank 3 Up Your Arsenal
Ratchet & Clank 1
Ratchet & Clank 2: Going Commando
Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty

Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault(not good)
Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One (danger don't play this one)

Thank you for answering the question. Maybe its time I upgrade my drive in my ps3.

Don't know what it is, but I never got into R&C. Found it terribly dull and boring on PS2, and the HD collection didn't shake that impression. Something about the platforming just never clicked with me. I can appreciate the writing, though. Also, All-4-One has pretty decent couch co-op. I don't think I'd play it alone, though.

I don't see how anyone couldn't love the original R&C games. It's basically a 3rd person shooter/platformer hybrid, with some RPG elements thrown in as well. To me, this series (not including the last 2 releases on PS3, they're not nearly as good) stands toe-to-toe with the original Mario games, Halo, and Splinter Cell as my all time favorite series ever. I've been playing games for 20+ years, so that's saying something. The games are just super polished, fun, gorgeous, and addictive. The levels are big and well-designed, the weapons are powerful, the gadgets are creative and sometimes funny (the Sheep-inator, the Groove-a-tron, etc), the puzzles are clever, and the characters are likeable. Plus the games are LONG, and there's incentive to replay them (finding hidden gold/platinum bolts, buying superpowered weapons, etc). Games like this don't come along often. For this price, it's a no-brainer.

NOW, to answer your question, the 2 original PS3 releases (Tools of Destruction, Crack in Time) are very similar to the original PS2 games. The graphics are slightly better and the levels are a little bigger, but they're also not quite as challenging. I'd skip All for One and Full Frontal Assault altogether. This is where (IMO) the series started to lose it's spark.

My order from best to worst
Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
Ratchet & Clank 3 Up Your Arsenal
Ratchet & Clank 1
Ratchet & Clank 2: Going Commando
Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty

Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault(not good)
Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One (danger don't play this one)
I agree with this 100%. Crack in Time was one of the first PS3 games I ever played and it's amazing.

So basically GTA5 is squad based, except you can take control of any one of the 3.

I could see how one may get bored with R&C, on the earlier games the focus was on gunplay first and the other aspects second.

Thanks everyone for the input! Looks like I'm going to go ahead and pull the trigger on the HD collection and get Crack in Time and Tools of Destruction for ps3 later down the road on sale.

Could someone refresh my memory, what time of day do first party Sony DLC codes expire? If I am remembering right, if it says it expires on Day X, then it expires around the start of the day on Day X at about 12:01 to 2 AM depending on your time zone, not at the end of the day, correct?

All 5 games are fantastic. As some of the others said, the PS3 games obviously have better graphics and have somewhat bigger worlds, but all 5 are some of the most fun games around.

While I'm someone who liked both A41 and FFA for what they were, I agree with this.

First R&C games I played were Tools of Destruction (my favorite) and A crack in time. Going back and playing the R&C 1 was rough after playing the refined PS3 titles. I still need to beat the final boss on it, but I got so annoyed I rage quit and haven't touched it for over a month (I bought the collection last time it was on sale).

That might be enough to dissuade me. I still have the PS2 originals and a BC PS3, but the idea of playing through SoT again in HD and with trophies sounds pretty awesome. Anyone else have any input on the collection? Is the HD a great improvement?

Good to hear! I'm planning on taking a break from forcing my way through my backlog soon and just sit back and enjoy a new game/series I never played before. So I'm looking forward to playing through the first one this weekend probably.

Just to give you a bit more info on the PS3 trilogy:

  • The entirety of SoT has the top and bottom portions of the screen cropped.
  • The PS2 version of SoT also included an emulated version of the very first PC PoP game. That bonus has been removed from this collection.
  • I only played a bit of WW and it looks like the aspect ratio has been stretched horizontally, but I haven't done any direct comparisons for that game.
  • The most common bugs are audio related, such as the dialog being way too quiet in SoT (but this was also a problem in the original) or the continual sound of enemies footsteps when there are no enemies in the room with you.
  • One of the more assuming bugs was when my character suddenly became invisible for no reason. That only happened once though.
  • Twice I had the character I was escorting just fall down on the ground dead, resulting in a game over. I don't know exactly how that happened as there were no enemies in the room. In fact she wasn't even moving when she died, she just dropped dead where she stood.
  • Occasionally you'll see some flickering textures.
  • The pre-rendered video looks extremely grainy.
  • You have to completely exit back to the dashboard and reboot the game if you want to play a different game in the collection.
The framerate did seem pretty solid though. The games are still playable despite these issues, but it just really feels like this collection was rushed.

Started SOTC HD for the first time last night and it didn't look very HD to me. I thought it was another case of old-cutscenes in an HD remake because lines seemed a little loose and textures seemed blurry. But then the gameplay started and it stayed the same. I have never played the original, so I don't have anything to compare to. Just thought that it looked very Wii-ish graphically.

Is it just me?

Thanks for the detailed feedback. I will most likely save myself money/HD space. Though I've done a lot worse for 8 bucks on PSN... dammit!

Thanks for posting that, thrinn. Think I might have to pass and just wait for them to go on sale with steam again.

Another thing I read is that his pants are always dirty in the collection, instead of only getting dirty after sliding around and you can't jump in water to clean them like you could in the original. How could you fail to mention such a thing?!

The biggest difference is in the frame rate, often on the PS2 when there was any amount of action (moving camera, atacking a colossus, etc.) the frame rate would chug. On the PS3 for the most park it keeps steady as a rock all throughout.

That might be enough to dissuade me. I still have the PS2 originals and a BC PS3, but the idea of playing through SoT again in HD and with trophies sounds pretty awesome. Anyone else have any input on the collection? Is the HD a great improvement?
I've only played SoT out of the collection, but I don't remember having any issues besides it sometimes seemed like the audio was too low. I had never played SoT or any Prince of Persia games before, so everything seemed fine to me, except the audio issue.

Just since you mentioned that trilogy and trophies.... Sands of Time is a pretty fun game and relatively easy to get the platinum in. The other 2 are fun to play through once. However, you have to play through them 3 times to get the plat in each. As much of a completionist as I am, they almost broke me. Each has a play through without dying trophy as well. You have to quit to XMB and restart the game if you die to avoid it registering a death, IIRC. Those two are very long and tedious if you want to get a platinum in them. First play through was pretty fun for both though.

I never had any of these issues with the exception of the sound issue on occasion and the grainy cut scenes. I played all of the games and 2 of them 3 times as mentioned above for trophies.

Just a warning: the Prince of Persia Trilogy has numerous bugs. The collection really does a disservice to the original versions.

The PC ports of these three games frequently go on sale for $2.50 a pop and I'd imagine any computer built in the past five years could easily run the games at their max graphical settings.
Hmm, some of the issues you describe in a later post sound annoying but might still pick it up since they don't seem overly unbearable. Have a week so may as well try and do some more research into it.

It's a PS2 game from 2005. They don't go back and redo all the assets in these sorts of things, they usually just tweak it so it runs at 720 or 1080 resolution and work on the system. The graphics are more about style than fidelity after all.

I realize its an older game, but I was expecting it to be smoother like the God of War and Sly Cooper HD upgrades (the only two HD upgrades I've played). Those games were noticeably HD-y, whereas SOTC still seemed like it had the lo-res sheen. Sly Cooper might not be the best comparison because of the cel shading. Just something I noticed and wondered if I was alone in seeing it.

I agree about it being a good idea to play in order, as there is a continuity in both the gameplay evolution and story to a lesser extent since you don't need to play others to get what's going on.

The first game has none of the iconic gameplay elements of the series (leveling weapons and strafing) and Going Commando has just one level per weapon, so it took a while for the series to really get to the standard that fans expect out of the mainline series. The first game is also the roughest of the six mainline games, as the controls aren't so great and the final boss is one of the worst in the history of gaming. I'm replaying through the HD collection and it's great to see the evolution of the gameplay since I mostly only played the first up to the boss fight before jumping in with Tools of Destruction on PS3.

This video just sold me on the game. I'm going to download SOTC now. I can't believe I've never played it, for whatever reason it just never grabbed my attention.

It's been a while since I've played it, but what is so terrible about the final boss? Sure he's not incredibly easy to beat, but I don't remember having too much trouble.
