Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.

Aussies too... But I still think its too much of a niche sport to have a big budget game, or more to the point in this case, to attempt a big budget game.

Gameplay trumps graphics so don't blow the budget on graphics that aren't going to be able to complete with graphics of other sports games anyways...

It's fair to say that cricket is a niche sport, but the same could be said about association football or baseball. Solid, playable games have existed for both for some time.

As and when developed India (second-most populous country on the planet, lest we forget) joins the gaming scene, you'll see a shift towards the sport. Not massively, but enough. It's just a question of time.

I'm disappointed that there's not more love in here. Have Homies and the Popz taught you nothing?!

Eh, I don't think it has to be American football or baseball or basketball to justify a game. The fact is that things like non-American football (what we Yanks call "soccer") and cricket are pretty popular in other places so if you make a good game you have a certain built-in demographic that will almost certainly buy it because there's scant competition for those dollars (and maybe to some degree because it isn't the umpteenth annual edition of an EA game).

EDIT: And let's be honest, if it's something put out by 505 Games, it did not have a huge budget.

I don't like sports or sports management games, but I'm clearly in the minority and that's okay. The only sports game I own is mostly for novelty: I have an old NCAA Football game (around 2009, I think) that I paid $2 for just because it's kind-of amusing to play as my alma mater.

EDIT: I take that back, I think I have a couple of baseball games on Steam I got for $1 or free.

I gave up on Eryi's Action 30 something deaths until the second checkpoint in the first stage. TOTAL troll game about nothing more than trial and error stage memorization. The trolling was funny for me, but I don't think I'd be laughing for more than15 minutes of this.
It's worth going a little further, imo. I'm finding it entertaining to find the more creative ways of dying. Before the end of the first stage is a hot spring, and touching it gets you a special "too hot!" death sprite and achievement. If you happen to toss a sprinkler into it, it stops for a second and then sprays hot water everywhere for another achievement.

If you look at it as a game where you try to collect all of the possible deaths, that might make it more amusing for those who are just finding themselves frustrated by it. Also, I'm feeling smug right now for figuring out how to clear the stage. TAKE THAT, GAME! ...after gaining another achievement for creatively messing it up by
destroying the goal flag.

There is a Steam app for iOS but I didn't think you could purchase through it. Thanks.

That feel when you're so excited for a game that you clean your monitor screen before playing it. *Antonio Banderas*
When I purchase through the Android app I find the process goes smoother if I use my Steam Wallet instead of trying to pay through Paypal or a credit card (I don't keep a card on file.) YMMV of course.

Midweek/weeklys are going to just be the autumn sale that starts tomorrow
I'm alrite w/that
24 hourzzzzz

because autumn sale! :D

Yep... That's what I was confirming ;)

Divekick, ho! I don't have time for fighters with a hundred normals for 30 charecters. This looks like dumb fun, I've already seen it streamed a good amount.

Is Agarest any good? I was mildly interested in Record of Agarest War for the 360, but never saw a price that suited my level of interest. Is this the same game? Or is it a sequel?
The whole series is something of a strategy RPG-turned dating sim. As far as I can tell, it's one of those series like Final Fantasy, where the stories are typically disconnected and you only play in a similar world. I've never played any of the games, but the trailers interested me when it first came out until I realized it was virtual waifu junk. I ain't going through the hassle of seducing a woman unless I can touch her in naughty places after.

What's a cherecter?

Has anyone actually played this? It looks really stupid.
Looks can be deceiving, but not in this case.

It's the same game.

Edit: It's the same post.

iBuyPower Steam Machine Prototype

The first look at a Steam Machine

Valve's Steam Machines aren't expected to make their debut until January at CES 2014, but we've managed to catch early spyshots of a prototype from one of Valve's partners iBuyPower.

As previously reported, Steam Machines will come in various forms and various specs, but all will run SteamOS. The one we spied here is packs an AMD CPU with a discrete GPU. It will also have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and at least a 500 GB HDD, with faster and larger options planned. While we weren't able to pose the machine next to anything else for scale, it's smaller than an Xbox One and even has an internal power supply. We're told this prototype is able to play all games at 1080p at 60fps, but obviously a lot of that depends on which game and its settings.

Currently the company has two prototypes: Gordon and Freeman. Both are identical save for the light bar around the middle. More specifically, Gordon has a blacked out area where the lighting is, and it's totally black when turned off, whereas Freeman is translucent/milky in that area.

Like all Steam Machines, it will pack Valve's innovative controller that seeks to be a replacement for the ever-loved keyboard and mouse combination.

The outside lighting is said to be customizable to user preference, or even disabled altogether, but all of this could change before launch.

Umm, if both versions of the box have the same hardware and the only thing that is changed is the light on the front, yet one of the boxes can customize the light and disable it, then why go through the trouble of making a 2nd box to begin with??? Is it possible they just got a unit with a defective light and are over thinking it in the throws of fanboy ecstasy. Two units named separately Gorden, then Freeman, makes a hell of a lot less sense than one unit being code named Gorden Freeman, them receiving 2 prototype units, and one of those units having a defective light. That makes more sense considering they didn't even get to touch it and are reporting the information second hand to begin with. :?: Sounds like they are talking out of their collective asses to me. I'll wait for some real news, rather than rely on this "reporting".

Flying Bundle #3, "Dungeons 'n' Computers"  is live.

$1 gets you Steam keys for Adventures of Shuggy and Hack, Slash, Loot, plus Desura keys for Dungeon Prospector and Hackwork, plus A MYSTERY GAME!!!

$2 gets you a boatload of Hacker Evolution games/dlc.

I was tempted to buy Divekick.. until I read on the Steam forum that the MP is basically dead (not many people are playing it). I'm guessing this is the reason the price is so low.

I'd only buy it if you're planning to play with friends.

Remember when I said Irrational should actually make the vigor bottles from Infinite? No? Well I did, deal with it. And alas...
