Name me ONE video game you thought was good, disappointing, and NOT great by any means.

And b/c of that - you decided that it's not currently worth playing in the open game-world after the Main Quest has been finished, replaying straight-up (from scratch), playing at another difficulty (from scratch), playing a New Game Plus Mode, or whatever the case might be.

That's how I felt about Diablo III (base-game).
So wait, you're saying that you played Diablo III all the way through then? I'm confused. I thought you refused to buy it but ZOMG INTERNET REQUIRED.

He only played through the campaign once and ain't touched it since
So then he never played end game and certainly never played end game post RoS and so isn't really fit to comment.

I think what he's not getting is it's designed with somewhat of an MMO philosophy and is supposed to have an end game. And not just some simplistic new game plus like some SNES game either.

Also while they did put a bit more effort into the story this go round I thought, it's still Diablo and the main thrust is loot and constantly finding more and better loot.

You're completely glossing over all the work Blizz did on the Diablo 3 base game prior to the release of Reaper of Souls. The 2.0 patch and closure of the Real-Money Auction House completely changed D3 for the better, all at no additional cost to owners of the base game. If anything, the console versions, as good as they turned out, were a test-bed for the fixes that went into the PC version.
It's too little too late man. Just because your ex has apologized, is sober, lost forty pounds, and is open-minded about anal now doesn't mean you're gonna take her back.

we can only hope the console port is ported back to pc
We PC gamers don't need the console port of D3.

Mechanically, D3's combat felt fine w/ the KB/mouse.

That wasn't my problem w/ the game, back when I played it.

I could get into my problems + gripes w/ D3 (base-game) back when I played it - but, those things are about the game.

That's not even me touching upon the "Always online DRM" issue.

This is how I feel about it. Blizz really screwed the pooch with the initial D3 release. I've played it on a peasant box, and I didn't dig the obvious WoW inspired elements. But then again, I really don't like WoW (though I can definitely understand why so many people like it).

I dropped $10 on D3 (base-game), during TRU PC Games Blowout, a few years back.

Haven't I been through this before a million times on these boards already?

I have some online-only games - such as Tabula Rasa (plug pulled); Guild Wars + all expansions; TSW; D3; Titanfall...
...but it's a known fact, I won't drop money on those games likely unless they are damn cheap (see TSW + D3) ...or I win them in a contest (like Titanfall).

That's one of those gifts + curses w/ D3. I'm glad that made it more SP-friendly in some ways with talking NPC companion bots that banter, tried to give it a story, tried to give it some Lore you can access (read + listen to while in-game), but the game's characters and stories were nothing special here.

Thanks.

FIXED.

EDIT:

Bingo @ Blizz screwing D3 PC's release (before Loot 2.0, Torment Levels, RoS, etc).

Should it always take Blizz major patches and especially expansion packs to maybe finally iron out problems, complaints, and whatnot w/ their games like D2 (as Drabe pointed out) + D3?

I must have missed that in between the hundreds of million times you ranted about always online DRM being the antichrist.

Thing is it's not supposed to be Dragon Age. If that's what you want then you're playing the wrong game. If you're okay with a hack and slash with RPG elements that's heavily loot based then that's fine.

----

On an unrelated but equally 'not getting it' note...

Oh Console Peasants.

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/331251-club-namco-dark-souls-2-ce-360-ps3-or-pc-5999-with-free-shirt/?p=11790911

Heads up on the pc version, no physical discs:

The Dark Souls II PC Collector’s Edition will come with:

- A digital download code for the game
*GASP* The horrors! A code and no disc!

PS - Namco has the PC version of Dark Souls 2 CE on sale for $60 + tax and shipping (distributed through Digital River) if anyone cares.

I know D3 is not supposed to be Dragon Age in terms of characters, story, plot, narrative, etc...

...but, what D3 throws at us is nothing special - even for within its own loot-heavy ARPG genre! It actually tries to emphasize its story elements w/ the way it delivers them (Lore, banter, cut-scenes)....and doesn't deliver anything special here.

Actually, what I'd probably really want out of a ARPG like D3 is...what that open Adventure Mode that RoS looks to be delivering.

I'll elaborate, but I know some of you are really into it, and I don't really care enough about it to get into an argument.

[customspoiler=Nerd Stuff]Artstyle, level cap (which requires expansions to boost), cooldowns, transmog, highly restricted valuable gear, unbalanced PvP (unnecessarily huge #s), lack of specialization [/customspoiler]

Considering people originally called WoW a ripoff of D2, I guess it's not all that surprising, but still.

Adventure mode is end game. You've just been insisting that you don't play end game after you've completely a game's campaign.

It's bounties which are goals to complete a randomized set of specific mini quests from the campaign and then Shards which are randomized dungeons. And you can't do them until you complete the main campaign. Also there's no story or character development involved. It's all killing enemies and getting loot.

Based on what you've been saying that doesn't sound like something you would like to me.

level cap (which requires expansions to boost),
So Borderlands 2 is a WoW clone too then?

No, but considering WoW and D3 are games made by the same company, you do the math. :p

I never called it a WoW clone either. I just said there was definitely WoW inspired stuff included and I didn't like it.

Farm 'dat lewt.  WoW is definitely Diablo... just with lockouts and group requirements.  They're even introducing random stat 'perks' to loot now to keep people from getting bored farming the same raid instance again and again.  Already got your epic axe from that boss?  Well... too bad 'cuz you could have gotten that epic axe with +20 run speed!  Back to the dungeon!

So, how is Remember Me for $8 and some change (from GMG)? It seems cheap enough, but I still don't know. Will it pull and keep me away from Diablo3, at least for a few hours?
If this has already been answered, I'm a lazy bastard and don't feel like catching up on the previous 10+ pages. Hopefully there is a nonlazy bastard (or nonlazy nonbastard) that can answer this for me. Thanks! =D

Pool Nation sale, again finally, was going to get it during the Winter sale at $5 and never did so $1.49 seems a steal.

Didn't realize Vicky II had been cheaper and had been bundled before (looked like a great bundle in general too =/). Don't get why the DLC for it isn't on sale, just the base game. Paradox/Steam used to be pretty good about putting both on sale, minus the DLC that was fairly new. Don't get why Heart of Darkness DLC costs the same as the base game (when neither are on sale).

I got RoS when it was on sale at Target last week, thanks to their goofy 3x trade-in value thing. The game does seem to have improved a lot, although I only played the campaign once way back when it first came out so my memory is hazy.

I do wish they would introduce some features from the console version, namely local co-op, controller support, and offline mode.

I wouldn't mind controller support for the PC version (yeah I'm one of those). Local co-op? eh. I don't know about an offline mode. Part of me wants it just in case but then I also remember the older Diablo games that had both and offline and online component and people use to cheat, hack and scam like crazy which is something the consoles don't really have to worry about.

Sounds like all good ideas to me. :D

It's on the consoles - so yeah, controller support sounds like a fine idea.

While I would offline mode be introduced sooner rather than later in case of any online issues on my end, ISP's end, D3 servers' end, or whatever - if their "last resort" just to keep D3 alive when they don't wanna support it anymore and they decide to pull the online plug on D3 PC b/c online player #'s are way down, then they could introduce offline mode.

They're still officially supporting Diablo II which is 14 years old so it's not like there's any huge danger of Diablo III getting taken down soon. If it came to that for some reason I'm sure they'd work something out. The online component is a pretty big part of the game though and I don't think they would take that down lightly even when numbers dwindle.

It really doesn't sound like Blizzard has any interest in adding controller support, but I found this program and it does a pretty damn good job of emulating such. Basically it binds your analog stick to rotate in a circle around the center of the screen, which combined with the  'Force Move' key (has to be set to B) lets you move your character around and aim your attacks, while other keys or mouse movements can be bound to other buttons. It's a bit finicky for navigating menus and picking up items, but for combat it works really well.

It's pretty customizable but not exactly intuitive to set up. See this video for an explanation. I have no idea if this will still be viable for higher-level play but for now I'm having a lot of fun with it.

if we upvoted do we get steam keys once it's released?
You have to send the developer a 1,500 word essay about your favorite parts of the original game, in French. Then slay the fabled Goreanegox of the Sacred Grove and return with the Pomegranate of Superiority. Following which you'll get your 10% off Steam coupon.

In regards to D3 on PC and controllers;

The disparity between the two versions boils down to the way movement is handled, where the player's focus is on the screen, and what this means for the number of monsters attacking you at the same time. On console, the player moves more, using the new rolling evade move on the right thumbstick, and is attacked by fewer monsters at a time to make allowances for the fact that movement isn't handled automatically and the player's focus is narrower. In other words, there's a subtle but important difference in pace and combat balance between the two games.
"The rhythm on PC is tactactactactactac - you're clicking the mouse, you're telling your character where to go," Berger said. "On console, the rhythm is very different. It flows more, because you're constantly repositioning your character with the thumbstick; you're really never stationary on console, whereas on PC you're a lot more stationary... When you're playing on the PC, you're not really looking at your character as much, you're kind of focusing on the cursor. Whereas on console it's the exact opposite, you're drawn in.

Yeah, I was able to grab one of the UE ones. I wanted the Season Pass and in game stuff, and this was the cheapest way to get it. The physical stuff is nice too. Overall, a steal at $7.99 if you can find it.

Did you already own the base game on Steam?

Which digital goodies came as separate codes?

No PS3 or 360 Defiance UE's within a hundred miles from me. Good thing I'm aiming for the PC version which it says it has low stock in the store right next to my workplace. Gonna aim to pick that up tomorrow.

FWIW I read that part of the reason for less enemies was also that the last gen consoles couldn't handle as much and that the new version with RoS for PS4/XBO is supposed to have more enemies than the prior PS3/360 version.

If it lets you, try to reserve it for store pickup. That's what I did.

That's exactly what I did. We'll see if they try to sell me some open copy with everything ransacked out of it.
I did the same. The main big box was open. All there is in there is the messenger bag and the smaller box with the statue, game, etc. As long as the smaller one is sealed you should be fine, everything else is in there.

Mine was open but the guy let me look at it before I bought it. He said everything was in there and it was. The great big box was open but in decent condition. The case on the inside with all the stuff was sealed and then the bag was in there.

Fox said his box was beat up as all hell but it had everything in there.

Of course this is Gamestop so YMMV. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.
