Xbox One - General Discussion Thread

you do know they company is in middle of making two new games right cobalt and scrolls ? i would just call that nonsense thinking they are spending 2.5 billin for windows phone
Nope, I didn't know what they were making which is what i asked a few posts ago so thank you for the info.

Sorry I should have worded it better.

They are mostly buying the company for their moblie space and not so much for their console space. They want to use them to support windows phones better. Getting Minecraft on windows phones is one game, as im sure other games as well.

I read that from here btw

http://www.polygon.com/2014/9/13/6144463/report-microsoft-minecraft-deal-could-be-announced-monday

so maybe i mistook what they meant

Man they could have offered more for Oculus with 2 Billion, damn Minecraft ended up selling more than Oculus as a company did.

Monopoly game sounds interesting we're big monopoly players in my house so I'll keep an eye on it but $30 sounds really expensive for what will probably be a download quality game.

plus how is ms bleeding money? if they can pay 2.5 billion for a small company it shows they are not hurting for money.
Bleeding money doesn't necessarily mean they are hurting for money. An example of how Microsoft is bleeding funds to keep up with Sony is they paid for the Tomb Raider exclusivity, they had to drop the payall on media apps, and they have to offer free games. These are examples of deals costing them funds they wouldn't have had to spend if they were leading the market. And because they have well under half the installed base these deals cost them far more money to secure.

i think they would have still spent all this money if they were leading in next gen sales what makes you think they would not. Seems like microsoft feels it's more easy to pay a 3rd party company to build games then it is running their own studios. Do i agree with that not really but if it produces great games that's all i care about.

microsoft is like every bigger company these days buying these little guys to build their company up off of others hard work welcome to the new world.

I think what bothers me the most about it is I know when you have strong studios, even when things aren't announced, i know i can look forward to the games those studios will come out with. I wish Microsoft had more of those studios.

I'm not so sure they would. Look at the last few years of 360. Microsoft flat out said they didn't need first party titles because they had strong third party support. They required gold for everything because they could. Rarely did games on demand games have decent sales. The fact that they're trailing behind is making them try harder. As an Xbox fan that's a win for me.

From what I can tell, Microsoft only has two studios that they've successfully established, which are Turn 10 and 343 Studios. They've mainly partnered with or purchased other studios for most of their games, so they haven't really tried very heard to invest in internal studios.

I'd imagine Black Tusk will do well if they just make Gears games, since Microsoft owns that IP now. They will probably release a Gears game from 3 years, giving Halo and Forza the every year/other year treatment.

I'd say Lionhead studios would be decent if the last few Fable games weren't complete Garbage. I enjoyed Fable 2 a lot, but everything after that has been meh with extra meh sauce.

If my internet is down, is it safe to play a game? Or will my offline save get overwritten by the cloud save when I reconnect?

With any luck, this acquisition will help Microsoft to start better organizing their internal studios. They've tended toward a more hands-off approach with greater or lesser degrees of success. Being more hands-off with Bungie resulted in some sweet Halo games, but it also left the door open for Bungie to take off on their own.

It's a delicate balance. If you're too overbearing and controlling with an acquired studio, you can end up squashing what made the studio valuable in the first place. But in some cases, a little more control is exactly what's needed. (such as when Nintendo ran roughshod over Retro Studios)

There's no real way to tell how a Mojang acquisition could go at this juncture. They have one valuable IP, and it's a doozy, but that's about all we've seen from them on the finished product front. Some of their upcoming output is promising, but untested.

And the only reason 343 was established was to continue somebody elses work
Which pisses me off with how they're handling Black Tusk studio, which isnt a new studio to even begin with. Once they found out that Epic wont be doing their work for them and keep making Gears, they scrapped whatever BT was working on shown at e3 '13 just to continue to make Gears. So much for new ips.

From what I read about Notch leaving, it seems like he is leaving Mojang because he could not stand working on Minecraft anymore. When you develop a game how you want to and then have some of the public shit on your decisions, it's tough mentally.

I don't blame Notch for leaving, he lost all creative outputs at Mojang it seems. As a developer, when you lose all creative freedoms, it sucks big time, I know this from personal experience.

Notch hasn't worked on Minecraft since late 2011 as announced by him on his blog. He owned 71% of Mojang (see link). So creative control was not the problem. It sound like he just wanted to cash out and I can totally understand that (according to Bloomberg Notch was the one who reached out to Microsoft to make the deal happen (see link).

My Warriors Orochi 3: Ultimate review is live. Please check it out - the game is a lot better than you'd think.

I know I got screwed out of KP and stages I purchased in Killer Instinct. That might be game specific though. I'm not sure.
Dang! I was afraid of that. I decided to just play 360 while my net was down. They fixed it this morning, thankfully.

Would you feel better if I typed "heh" to convey my non conventional tone?

I'm not sure what the point of making this comment is."heh"
I dunno, laugh out loud literally means you're laughing at what you just said, which is a weird thing to do with frequency. Like just imagine me doing that every time I type everything. "Why are you typing lol, Deader? Ha ha ha!" and everyone at the coffee shop looks at me funny.

Heh if a little more natural and doesn't require quotation marks. But if you're just trying to convey different tones, smileys are another option.

In the end, does it really matter that much to you? It's pretty much the same as getting on people for not using proper sentence structure, grammar and punctuation on forums.

As a thread regular, you're someone I listen to with frequency and talk to decently often, so why wouldn't it matter what you're saying? It's just feedback. ~ ~

I liked your X-box One game review, lol.

Notch didn't like getting hate thrown at him on Twitter because of decisions he wasn't a party to at Mojang due to divorcing himself from the game. The fans ironically drove him to want out of the whole thing because was the default face of the game despite not having worked on it for so long.

That's what I read on GAF as well.

I will never understand for the life of me why people get so bent out of shape about Twitter. When you are that successful/famous there will always be a certain amount of hate/envy. You have to be able to tune it out. If Notch's heart was not in it, and all indications were that it wasn't, then taking the money and starting anew or just relaxing for a few years seems like the logical choice.

I don't think Notch is that kind of guy. He's never been great dealing with the level of success his game and the fame he himself received, which means that he gets weirded out by the fandom at times and the hate just has an even worse effect on him that obviously created this situation. You can say all you want about how easy it is to deal with suddenly being incredibly wealthy and more popular than almost everybody in the industry, but that's probably a lot harder to handle when your personality isn't the type that can deal with that sort of stuff.

Well in that case he made the right decision. Although, I worry that he won't be able to escape the fame simply by selling. Anyhow, I always thought Notch sounded like a cool dude, who was doing something he absolutely loved, and I wish him all the best.

I'm amazed he lasted as long as he did. Had I been in the same situation, I would have probably looked to cash out years earlier. At the point where your company is being sold in the billions, the money becomes immaterial. No sane, reasonable person can spend that much cash in their lifetime. Time to retire and pursue whatever hobbies interest you to your heart's content.

I wish Mr. Notch all the luck in the world. And hopefully Mojang will prove a worthwhile acquisition for Microsoft. I have no idea how this will eventually translate into XBox One sales. But it would be really cool to see a company like Mojang work on a Kinect-specific game.

Notch uses a lot of his money to donate to charities he believes in like the EFF and I see him listed on all sorts of Kickstarters, so he tries to invest some of it into his interests. He lasted as long as he did because once he left Minecraft, he started working on that weird space programming game that captured his interest but ultimately couldn't come to fruition. He'll spend his time doing what he did back before Minecraft and make little experimental games to share with the indie community.

Played around with the Xbox One I got recently from cowboom. I'm loving the voice commands more than I thought I would. Didn't like the hand gestures though, Kinect had trouble tracking my hands, and getting it to see me grabbing/pushing/pulling back tiles is not accurate enough.

Most people who can't handle twitter are true assholes coughdamonlindeloffcough
I have to agree with you. You can't go out in public and spout off, then get all butthurt when people pay attention and disagree or dislike you. Hey, what do I know? Maybe it's not that easy. But, it's hard to not think of folks like this....take Phil Fish for example....as assholes.

I never get the hand gestures to work when I want them to. When they do pop up, it's at the randomest times.

Forza Horizon 2 Demo is out now. I thought I was downloading it earlier but I forget to hit "Install" after I hit "Buy". So now that's going to take the rest of the night probably. I've heard the game looks amazing though and it looks like a lot of fun to play from the videos I've watched.

In other great news for those of us who preorder digital games the Xbox store shows Forza Horizon 2 unlocks at 12:01am Eastern Time instead of the usual 3AM and Major Nelson confirmed the change on Reddit although it may just be for their published games.

I'm downloading the 10GB demo right now. Does the Xbox only show how far the download goes by percentage?

I read this but apparently thats not why its delayed. He hasn't sued or filed a law suit but they are still negotiating.
well he owns the cm punk character so either he gets deal done or he is not in game. punk was not a idiot and did not allow wwe to own his name like they do for most talents. Only reason why he was put in game in first place because he was under contract with wwe until late june.

It didn't. He broke his contract but they later granted him an early release.
um what :/ his contract was set to expire in june even before he walked out night after rumble. :wall: you doing google search on stuff again. he was never granted early release. behind video games wrestling is my next hobby so im not talking out of my behind about this topic

Yes. It ran out now, but when he left it was breach of contract and WWE was thinking of suing him.

But whatever. This is kinda pointless so ill just say you're right.

I had to disable the hand gestures because I would be watching TV and a hand would just appear on the screen and start moving around with no movement in the room, sometimes it would even hit commands like pause. But yeah other than that not much to complain about except having to repeat voice commands every now and again.
