Xbox One - General Discussion Thread

After all the complaints of it not selling well since it's on XB1(blah, blah, blah), this is surprising. Good thing I waited.

MS has to pay the developer some money to do so right?
It depends on the publishing deal that MS has with Access Games for D4 since Microsoft is the publisher. I know Avalanche Software has said previously about Just Cause 2 getting on PS+ that they were not paid for that deal and that Square Enix got the money, but they at least benefited from the increased exposure, feedback, and all that that made it worth it for them. I'd hope that Swery and crew get paid for getting their game on GWG.

I don't think the complaints were that it sold poorly because it was on Xbox One, but because Microsoft refused to market the game or mention that it existed when they ran promos about all of the great exclusives on Xbox One.

Was the game announced like a week or 2 before it's release or I'm thinking of a different game?  Or am I thinking of a different game?

Looking forward to D4. I have an Xbox for exclusives so when we get them free that is pure "gold" for me. Also wasn't this game supposed to use the Kinect properly, can't wait to actually use it in a game and not just Xbox Fitness.

I think I remember it getting a lot of hype at the 2013 E3 and it seemed to get more hype in the shows up until launch, then nothing, and only a little hint of news about it when the developer said it would never come to PlayStation.

No, and it's better without Kinect IMO. In fact, I'd go so far as recommending that you unplug your Kinect if you want to play with controller, as the UI is obnoxious and constantly tries to switch back to Kinect.
Awe bummer, thought it was one game that utilized the Kinect, guess I'll be disconnecting my Kinect to play then, thanks for the advice.

Well, you could end up enjoying the motion controls more than me. But as far as choosing controller while the Kinect is plugged in, they goofed for sure.

Getting The Witcher 2 as a GwG is a good move by Microsoft to gain awareness and fan base on the Xbox platform with The Witcher 3 coming out in February. I have the game's Collector's Edition anyways though, awesome game.

Witcher 3 was delayed to May. But yeah, I agree, smart move on Microsoft's part. Can't wait to try out D4 as well; glad I held off.

D4 is maybe my favorite game of 2014. It's great with or without Kinect, but you should unplug it if playing with a controller. The game tends to switch to Kinect for no goddamn reason. The action scenes are way better with motion controls, though.

I hope GwG will stir up some more interest and lead to a second season. Please. Please!

I read today that the content in Witcher 3 is done and locked, and from now until it goes gold will be spent on bugs and optimization. From what we've seen lately, I thought this was really good news.

Can't wait now!

Is the delay for optimization, and bugs? If so say YAY!. After MCC, and Unity I'm becoming more and more disappointed.

I meant to end that with a period, not a plus. High was 70 even. But we're supposed to get some Christmas rain tomorrow with a high of 57. Rainfall is a rare occurrence here in southern California.

What time did it start? I was on from about 9-10 central this morning doing bounties in Destiny before I left and had no problems. I can't even get to the Xbox status page now. Damn script kiddies. I'm not home yet so it isn't really effecting me, buy sucks for all those who just want to try out their new toys.

it's coming back online now. I was finally able to sign in and purchase Child of Light on sale.

I had got on about 11:30 or 12 EST and couldn't do anything. The system would log me in, but I couldn't log into Live at all. At that time there was no message on Xbox.com/status so I tried a bunch of stuff thinking that maybe it was on my end. Finally at about 1EST is when MS acknowledged the issue on their end on the site. Since then, I've been periodically checking the site, and most the time it won't load, or if it does it takes upwards of 5 minutes. It isn't a huge problem for me, but it does suck for the people that just got the system and wanted to at least get updates and games installed before heading out for the day.

Although some of the articles I have read said that the attacks started on Christmas Eve. I was on up until about 5AM EST this morning with no issues though, so it is hard to say when it actually happened. It may have started while you were playing as I believe the way that they work is that it won't kick you from the service if you are already signed in.

I still am having trouble with the site, and they still have that service is limited on X1, 360, and other devices.

NOTE: I just fired up my One while typing this and it is loading up the dashboard as if I was online, but won't auto sign-in. Then when I do get my actual profile signed in, it goes back to showing as though I'm not connected to Live. Personally, it is more irriating than anything due to the fact that MS and Sony both knew that there was a good chance this was going to happen, so you think they would have better prepared for it. I understand it is a DDOS attack and that it isn't exactly the easiest thing to prepare for, but seeing as we are talking about two of the biggest technology companies in the world... You'd think that greater efforts could have been made to prevent this.

I do have a side question though... How do these DDOS attacks play in to those with Windows phones (if at all)? Does anyone have one or any experience as to what happens to the phone when the attacks happen?

If the dashboard doesn't load right, refresh it with LT + RT + Y.

My windows phone works fine.
Oh okay. I was just curious if these attacks created a problem for the phones too like they do Smartglass on other devices.

I'll keep that in mind, but it's not even letting me sign in with my primary account now. Which is strange considering it will allow me to sign in with my secondary. I'm thinking maybe because of the flood of people trying to get on now.

I usually play offline anyway lol.

I was in the Vintage Touring Legends in Forza Motorsport 5 and driving the Aston Martin DB5 which haha wasn't the best car to try out first with the wheel. Showed my bro FM5, FH2, and Need for Speed Rivals - which I found out isn't racing wheel compatible - as in I let him test drive my system for a while. We had tried to log in with FM5 but it wasn't working so after a few free races we went back into FH2. Had an update when we were playing, not at start up, and stopped the awesome P1 bucket list event. That was annoying but he was amazed at its speed (switching from game to game/game resumes) and how good the game looked. I'm lIke yeah Horizons 2 is a fun game and the Xbox is super sleek now!

so apparently you cant even be offline with your profile on XB1?  Was gonna try and get the Halo MCC Christmas achievements but it wont let me sign in with my profile...dont care about the online but I cant even select my profile....

Achievements are in the cloud for Xbox One. Completing them offline should get them to pop next time you're online though.

Edit: Oh nevermind.

So last night while Live was spotty I turned my system off a few times looking to see if I could connect to live after. My system boots straight to TV.

After the 3rd time I shut it off and turned it back on, the picture was no longer filling the entire screen. I looked at Xbox One TV and the display setting are what they should be: Native. If I select zoom it will fill he screen but obviously its not HD anymore at that point.

I took the HDMI in cable out of the Xbox and plugged it into my TV to make sure it's not the cable itself or the cable box. It's fine when I plus it directly into the TV. So the Xbox obviously has something lost in translation.

I just have no idea why it would be working fine then all of a sudden not for no reason at all. If anyone has ever had a similar situation or ideas please let me know. I've searched around online and nothing I'm reading is helping at all.

Thanks.

Hard reset, reset and reconfigured the TV settings. Reset the cable box just to be sure. Played with my TV settings even though I know it's the Xbox pass through.

Nothing is working.

In regards to Witcher 3, I wish there was a pack-in on either system including a PC graphics level port of the Witcher 2 and the Witcher.  I'd pay extra for it even.

edit:  I'm also excited about getting "D4" for free.  Thanks for that info about D4 Frisky.  I had no idea it was not marketed that much as one of MS's exclusives.  That it sold poorly and sounds good doesn't surprise me, much like another companies games MS use to publish...Mistwalker.  Speaking of the latter, any chance some of you will put "Bring back Mistwalker for the One." in your XBL signature?
