Official CAG Destiny Thread - Rise of Iron

Well, had to resort to LFG tonight and it went OK.  It was 2 squeakers, a stoned sleepy guy who had never done most of the Raid, a douche, and one normal quiet guy (and then me, whatever I am).

Stoned sleepy guy took forever to understand stuff but once he did, he did OK.  We got through most of the Raid with little trouble until phase 2 of the boss fight.  I gave it more than an hour, and then I was out of there.  There were too many times where one of the spots went completely uncovered.

I actually got a gauntlet drop from my Warlock so I actually have everything but the helm.  I might try to LFG a final boss kill to see if I can get it.

But otherwise tomorrow (or rather, later today) I'm good for a CAG run on my Titan.

By the way, Xur has gauntlet engrams for 19 coins!  That is the one piece I keep trying to get more of since I have so many different ones (for reloading different weapon types).  I am in the process of buying as many as I can and maxing out all my gauntlets.

My first 3, at 386, all decoded into 385 so I thought maybe that was the max.  But I just got a 387.  So I'm transferring stuff over to my Titan where I can actually be 387 to decode.  I'm going to do a bunch there and try to get as many 387's as I can.

Why not buy the engrams and save them for Tuesday when the light level cap is going to be raised? Instead of getting 387s you could be getting 391s.

 
Nightfall difficulty being bumped from 365 to 380 is no bueno for people like me who aren't at 380 yet... hahah

I kind of want to run the raid tonight too so I can get the Pulse Rifle quest done and I can use it on my Warlock when teaching my buddies tomorrow night. I won't be on until around 11 EST though as usual.

I'd be willing to wait around so you can join in if everybody else is ok with it. Hopefully we have enough people doing the quest (with different classes) so we can just stick around after and finish it.

I am down to raid tonight.  The earlier the better for me.  

Also if anyone still needs to make progress on the Outbreak Prime quest I am at the starting phase where you have to do NF/Strikes/Forge.  I am a Hunter and I have already finished it on my titan.

 
I'd love to raid and maybe work on the Outbreak Prime bid'ness, but it probably won't be until later (10 or 11 PM CT) until I can get online.  Feel free to start without me if you have a quorum before then. :)

I found out in the process of doing mine that you only need the fire team for charging the engine. Everything else you can solo if you want.

Because I never heard of this till now. I had no idea. And I pretty much just blew through all my coins doing this last night. Plus I don't really have space to store any engrams. I can probably scrounge up enough coins to buy a few more once I'm done with everything tomorrow (so every character and vault spot would be full). Then I'm out of town when the hard raid hits, so I'll see what happens when I get back late next week.

I figured any raise in light level would only be from hard mode Raid gear and that engrams and such would still soft cap at 385. None of this was ever discussed here, and this is pretty much the only place I check any more.

Ghost shells and artifacts up to 400 from Archon's Forge. That's good news. I'll be way behind everyone when I get back next Friday, but at least I know what I'll need to do then.

What is the suggested Heroic Raid light level?

Since nothing can drop over 387 now is it even worth running stuff this week?

Are you guys sure about the progress on outbreak prime not needing a 3 man fireteam of each class? Could have sword I was doing archon forge and not getting credit earlier this week.

I know for sure I did the last part (don't remember step) in the archon forge and sepiks prime without a fire team. Other than matchmaking gave me anyway. I can't speak for the other parts but I was told the only time you need it is for the Siva engine.

I got on earlier in the day (than usual for me, anyway) to try to avoid the sweaties. I was just about to LFG when two guys in the reef asked me to join. Once I verified that they weren't hardcores I joined up and they were actually pretty cool. We ran two characters through and just missed getting the weapon drop at 7 wins. They wanted to run a third and we might still do that in a bit but I had to duck out for a while to deal with family stuff.

These guys thought it was pretty sweaty when we were running but no, it was nothing like my late night runs where every team is super-serious hardcore. We got creamed a few times but we also went 5-0 against a few others, and had some nice even matches. I can live with a competitive set of games and getting to 5-7 wins. Getting stomped repeatedly at 1-3 wins is not fun though.

I have too many marks so I didn't even cash in my bounties yet. But for drops I did get the old chest and new boots (boo - worst of the new pieces since it is hard to notice) for my Warlock and the old gauntlets and new helm (score!) for my Titan. I would love to get my Hunter through but we'll see.

I like the map this week because it is not sniper-friendly so I stand a chance at least. I forget what it is called, but it is the really old one with the cannons on it. We ran into lots of 3 shotgun rushing groups. And grenades - oh lord, the grenades!

Drunkz, I still could use an Aksys phase 2 clear on my Warlock so if you are raiding later and need some help at the end let me know. And before you say it Broly, I know, "that's what she said".

Da fuq!?  I opened my gold tier packages and got a Doctrine of Passing and a ghost shell.  The shell is OK since I didn't have it yet, but, damn, the one weapon I got from my flawless run a few months back was Doctrine of Passing.  I thought the new weapons would drop from the packages?  Oh well, I knew Trials would troll me going in, so I shouldn't be surprised.  At least it wasn't a 384 artifact.

I did get an exotic from my Silver Tier - a 386 Secondary.  I forget which one.  I used it to bump my Iron Banner shotgun from 385 to 386.  Whoo-hoo.

I am going to be in tonight trying to farm 3oC's for the LL bump on Tuesday. So if anyone needs a body for anything I will be available just send an invite. Would love some very casual ToO tonight if possible.

During the day is the best time for ToO. Friday and Saturday nights are the worst usually and then also pretty bad right before reset when Trials is finishing up.

Yep, pretty much this. I played Saturday evening (around 5pm Pacific) and it was MUCH less sweaty than late at night. Not that it was easy, mind you. I pretty much found the perfect two randos to play with (or should I say, they found me). They were a little better than me but not so much that they got frustrated with me ;). So we were actually able to get to 5 wins on the two runs (and almost 7 on the second one) to get the armor pieces - which is my main goal. And with the older Trials gear dropping as rewards (win or lose) before that, even, it is definitely worth playing.

So this morning I was at a Target here in Atlanta and I was really, really tempted to pick up an Xbox One slim just to play Destiny this week. If there was an awesome sale I'd probably go for it. But having to pay sales tax means it costs more for me than it would at home and being a CAG I just can't do that, even without considering how I'd get the thing home.

Having said that, anyone know of a great deal on the Slim right now? I still have tomorrow to get one ;).

Failing that, I will be back Friday night and will definitely want to run all sorts of crap after I decode all my engrams. Unless there is a hard mode raid run there for me, I'll probably want to get Nightfall done on all 3 characters so if anyone is still running it then look for me to be on around 9 pm Pacific.

Packages first than engrams or the other way around?

I will have 2 Vanguard packages and one DO package once I turn in my bounties.

I also have about 5 legendary and 11 exotic weapons to open and 6 legendary and 6 exotic armors to open.

I am 384 and a half right now with my best gear on.

Also if I use marks to buy a weapon/armor from the cryptarch what will it decide at tonight? Is that something capped or will it decode at or above my LL?

Here's what I would do in your shoes:

- decrypt the legendary engrams because they cap at 385 and you're already 384

- then collect your faction packages (they cap at 390)

- see if your ghost and artifact are at your current light level; if not, do Archon's Forge because ghosts and artifacts now drop up to 400

- once you're maxed out as much as you can, then use the exotic engrams (they cap at 400) -- though I personally would probably do a nightfall to see if I get better drops (nightfall drops cap at 400) and probably run a few strikes to use skeleton keys, assuming you have keys (chest loot caps at 400)

- exotic engrams should be used last unless one of your slots is really holding you back and you have an exotic engram for it

- I believe cryptarch packages should cap at 385, too, since that's the cap of all legendary engrams now

With my 385 Warlock (yay legendary engrams!) I turned in these two rank-ups:

Vanguard:

Bond - 384 (-1)

Helmet - 385 (+0)

Dead Orbit:

Bond - 387 (+2)

Chest Armor - 385 (-1)

Sooooo, displacement zero. :)

Not sure if everyone knows yet, but anything decrypting consistently above 385 won't happen until after the hard mode raid launches. If you have any more packages, wait on them. Hard raid launches in 30 minutes or so.

Exotics, etc. right now still have a soft cap of 385. After hard raid drops, their caps will be raised to 400.

Holy crap, sounds intense ;). What did they change at the end, though? And is the phase before the Zamboni the same? If so it might not be too hard to get the drops from there at least.

1. Everybody gets a bomb and you have to throw them all st the same time.

2. Monitors are the bigger ones behind the boss and they take a lot more damage before being destroyed. Still only one monitor per bomb cycle.

3. You now have to slide into the clean rooms since the doors close half way.

There were some insane 'deals' a few weeks back at Target and WM that were really just glitches in the system. I meant to pick one up during that but even when I found a place with the required items at Target, it wouldn't ring up right for me so I passed. Decided to just get a nice big laptop backpack and I have been travelling with my old XB1 until I find a slim deal. It is actually pretty easy, even more so if you have TSA pre check.

Your biggest issue if you are buying new this week while on the road is going to be how to download 50gb of destiny from a hotel wifi connection. Or just staying online to play.

Yeah I think I'll just wait. I'm spending 10+ hours looking at a computer monitor anyway so really what I'm doing after that is vegging with TV and then reading an actual book ;).

I haven't even cracked open my 3DS yet.

It's probably a good thing I wasn't around or I would have decoded all my engrams and gotten all my faction packages at reset not remembering Bungie is a bunch of bastards and starts things like this mid-day (then why even have "reset" be when it is!?).

A slight pain? I've fought them in a Heroic Strike with Solar Burn and just gave up after about 30 minutes of trying. I can't even imagine how much like the bottom of their boots my face would look in the Nightfall...

All that being said, if anyone has a strategy for this strike please share. :)

Question - Has anyone had a piece of gear that was infused with a higher light piece of gear end up being 1 higher than the infused gear? Is there any way to predict or control this behaviour?

Probably a bug, I decoded a blue special engram and got an exotic primary. Shield brothers strike is easy btw.

I have had a few. This goes back to year 3. Apparently it has to do with the light level actually having decimals so when they hear gets infused it gets rounded up. I'm sure it is more complicated but that is the simple explanation I read.
