What's the deal with games marked as Limited Run number and those without?

I'm thinking about buying the Shadows Of The Damned Remaster physical copy just cus I Love Grasshopper and may want it in my collection long term. But unsure if it not being a Limited Run Numbered game means it'll probably come to retail? I'd avoid ordering from LRG if it'll come to retail

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think the number releases are the games that LRG themselves published, vs the non-number gets are ones they distribute- meaning someone else publishes them but because they've got market reach, they basically act as a store for another publisher to sell their games.

LRG numbered vs non-numbered is no indication of said game being available only through LRG or if they'll get a wider release, but I think most desirable games end up at other retailers. Seems like most of the ones that stay LRG exclusive are the ones nobody really wants.

I ended up ordering a copy. I don't know if it'll be available again but for $30 total I'd rather have it. Love Suda and still wanna support and have it. Especially since I decided I couldn't justify the cost of the Lollipop Chainsaw collectors edition, this feels like a decent consolation prize

Last minute late Sunday night basically Monday order.. I caved in on 2 copies of Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection Ps4 from Blowout sale.. Snk vs. Capcom Svc Chaos on Switch.. Tomba Standard & Tomba Classic Edition.. I should've grabbed that Tomba Neo S Controller before it sold out- Then I grabbed 2 Shadows of the Damned Ps5 since why not it's cheap at $25 each..

I had that discount coupon from them screwing up Teslagrad from my order, and since who knows when HI-FI Rush is coming, I got Shadow of the Damned, Valkyria Chronicles, Assault Suit Valken and Quake.

Numbered is their line, non-numbered is distribution. Distro titles get sold on a different day, sold elsewhere, and get reprinted, that's about the only difference. I'm pretty sure they spun it up as a way to circumvent commitments around release volume, and it's inconsistent whether they actually do production or get boxes of the games from the publisher. But with their numbered line going to VGP/PNP and it being suspiciously likely that they've done reprints for things like Meat Boy and convention exclusives, the line is very blurry at this point.

Josh has said that only LRG is going to sell Shadows of the Damned Remaster. But he’s been wrong before, so who knows
An important clarification here - he said there were "no plans" to do so. That's marketing speak for "it will happen but we want to stir up FOMO so people order from us". He also confirmed VGP would be getting copies after that, so I expect at least other partner stores to get it if not Amazon.

Josh right now...

To each their own?

Yeah, my sentiments as well, especially as I have little room to judge. I have been more than happy to buy what some would call inferior Switch versions of games that leave others scratching their heads. But it's my main platform and my tv's are all 1080p or less... so it makes sense to me. The games run fine. I'm not yet spoiled by higher def or higher framerates or stuff like HDR or surround sound. Plus, I do love having games on cartridges.

Additionally some people have variants instead of the default controllers so they don't have bad dpads. Like as an example I have the breath of the wild joycon that has a perfectly good dpad. But I don't play fighting games so I can't say if it would meet the standards.

Also also isn't there that 120 bucks or whatever overpriced controller for Xbox that supposedly has a good dpad?

Side scrollers with the clicky xbox dpad?
I'm my opinion the Xbox controller is the best controller this generation, follow closely by the Dual Sense. It is the one that feels best in my hands.
I play most side scrollers these days with the analog sticks anyway, I know how could I but it is fine for me.

I mainly now use third party controllers for the Switch because their controllers are terrible. The pro controller was decent but mine drifts and is now useless so I bought a after market controller that had a NFC reader built in to play Tears of the Kingdom and had a good time with it.

Analog with side scrollers….HOW COULD YOU?! Kidding. I would rank PS4/PS5 for best Dpad lately, followed by Hori left dpad attachment for Switch, then Xbox. :)

I'm not a huge side-scroller fan by any means, but I agree here, Sony's d-pad has always been top notch. The d-pad on Nintendo consoles after the N64 have been pretty crappy. And Xbox has the worst d-pad by far.

I had to beat Celeste with the analog because the joycon & Switch pro d-pads are just awful. That experience was what drove me to start buying 2D & indies on Playstation. Never looked back.

It always amazes me how Josh get so excited for unnecessary merch.
I'm a big fan of the Dreamcast but I have no intention of buying Dreamcast Merch even for its 25th anniversary.
I like the Dreamcast T-Shirt but I'm not paying $30 plus tax and shipping for a T-shirt.

I have similar feeling for other Merch from other companies. I really like some of the new Fangamer shirts but I'm not paying $36 plus tax and shipping for a t-shirt.

Especially when I got 6 nice t-shirts from Woot about a month or so ago for $32 with tax and free shipping.

Limited Run Games has become a parody of themselves at this point.

Dreamcast trading cards with little more than box art on them!?!? And $125 for a box of 24 packs? $10 for a themed card storage box!?!? And of course they couldn’t help themselves… fucking skate decks… again…

This is how you know Embracer takes zero oversight on LRG/Josh, hell at this point I’m convinced Embracer forgot they still own them and thought they closed them also…

Back to d-pads... Switch Pro, is fine by me... but I also have the official SNES controllers for switch. That's my go to for serious dpad gaming.

The pro controller was decent but mine drifts

Forgive my curiosity, but have you updated it? There have been a lot of controller updates on the switch through the years and I'm still rocking my Pro from right after launch without any drift or other issues.

I have very little nostalgia for the Dreamcast, but I guess that's cool for Dreamcast lovers. Also agree on t-shirt prices. I'm looking at one on yeetee (excellent shirts BTW), but it costs $32 dollars before anything else which is kind of a no go for me. For these normal t-shirt prices I'm generally okay paying possibly up to $20. I'll always support yeetee for speed run event shirts and daily specials.

And the coin Isn’t a 25th anniversary coin, but a commemorative trading card coin, to celebrate the trading cards they just released. It says “trading cards“ on it.
Oh man, I missed that initially, how far up their own ass are they!?!?

“Like sure it’s cool the Dreamcast came out 25 years ago, but today, on this day we want to celebrate that we made trading cards, yeah that’s right trading cards.

No one thought we could do it, in fact we even said we wouldn’t do trading cards anymore, but we were wrong, we figured out how much stupid profit there is when we don’t even have to commission art work using the preexisting box art so we’re bringing it to you, one chance only, don’t miss them or they’ll be gone forever.

We’ll now take some questions after you have a chance to compose yourself. No, not about fulfillment times. Also, we’re not discussing Vita games either, cause fuck Nicalis, everyone knows Meatboy was the real last Vita release. Currently available SKUs in production? I uhhh don’t have those numbers available right now but rest assured we’ve never been shipping more and fulfilling faster, and we’ve got some changes planned for next year as well to increase… sorry I meant speed up fulfillment times”

Edit:

I somehow missed this initially, so you’re telling me we’ve got months of skate decks ahead of us?!? I can hardly contain my excitement.

Yes I have updated it, I have tried to re calibrate it and it drifts just as bad or worse than the two sets of joy-cons I had to send in to get fixed. What annoys me is the fact you can send in the Joy-cons to get fixed but not the pro-controller. I'm pretty sure they use the same analog sticks.

Rocking Dreamcast card sleeves for a CCG deck would be rad, I think.

But making your own collectable cards, with blind boxes, for a historically failed console, is a bold (dumb) statement.

Totally cutting back on collectors editions. They didn't lie, they're cutting the "edition" part and focusing on collectors. No game, no problem! Just sell all the bullshittery around it, worked well for GameStop. Right?

Now I might want a Chu Chu Rocket hoodie or hat, not gonna lie, but I'm weird. And I'm not buying blind boxes of Sega's last home console cards weird.

All jokes aside... they're saying every month starting in Oct, there'll be game specific stuff, starting with Skies of Arcadia. Gonna totally consider buying anything that semi interests me for Skies... Maybe Sega will see the royalties as a sign of interest and do something about it. That game deserves a modern release (at least the GC version does, the OG DC version was kinda hard).

Josh has been posting more info about the cards on twitter. Sounds like there will be serial numbered parallels out of 10. And there will be some inserts. He predicts the numbered cards will fall 1 in every 2 booster boxes, but it depends on the volume of preorders.

I have a big soft spot for the DC. Launched in the US on the same day as my first kid (yes, he's 25 today). A small library that is mostly all quality games and even the lower quality ones aren't really bad. I sold off all of my games years ago... though bought a copy of Shenmue just because, but I still have all the hardware. The official keyboard, mouse, a third party vga box, my DC which I chip modded to be region free, more vmu's than I could ever need (thanks to $5 deals at ToysRUS), Official Dreamcast Magazine issues, the official fishing controller, and a small army of the dc controllers. Gosh I loved the hell out of that system. One of the best times in gaming for me... especially hanging out on the IGN Dreamcast forum and chatting with the same group of peeps for years after the DC was dead.

Still, I have zero interest in these cards. It's paper. What have I done with any of the cards I bought in the past for other stuff but just stuck them in a box. Like the Skybox XMen cards from the 90s. Sure, they are cool as hell to look at every so many years... then back in the box. And those were 10000x more fun to collect than the fomo crap this is going to be for anyone that dares to dive in. Save your money.

Now merch? Probably not if it's just shirts and the usual stuff.

So.. I ordered through the sale at Limited Run Games recently some stuffs.. and when I got my Rocket Knight Adventures SDCC Exclusive Switch game I noticed there isn't any special Holo/Foil effect & not numbered like the Persona or Felix the Cat games.. just has sticker says SDCC. Anyone else notice this ?

I would be much more excited if they we working with Sega to release Skies of Arcadia on modern platforms.

Josh should use the Carbon Engine to bring the Dreamcast Web Browser, with an aged, hand stained, beige PS/2 keyboard (find your own adapter!) to modern consoles.

...or how about PSO?

I'm pretty sure that Rocket Knight was just an alternate convention cover that did not include holo/foil effect.
