The Mets are so bad this year they can't even trade their now healthy players (Wagner).
IT was more Wagner. He invoked his no trade because Boston wouldnt guarantee him declining his option next year so he can close out his career as a closer and not a set up guy.

I would have thought he would have liked to gone to a contender but thats kinda selfish to me. I thought winning a world series would have been more important to him...but i guess its not.

Haha yeah I knew it was more Wagner but it's just funny to me that even when they try and deal somebody there is something holding it back. This season was a complete loss.

The bigger sticking point for Wagner was not getting offered arbitration. Thats the biggest reason he vetoed a trade to the Red Sox. They agreed to decline his option, but would not do the same with arbitration. They, and every other team, would've been dumb to just let him walk and not get anything in return for doing so.

The Mets made the best move out of this. They'll get 2 1st picks from his suitor. Not really sure where he ends up, but him invoking his no trade clause was good news for the Mets.

While I understand he wants to get to the 400 saves mark, I don't get where he thinks there will be a big market for him in the offseason at his age coming off of surgery. If he pitched well, the sox might haved moved the money hungry paps, and let wagner bridge the gap untill bard is ready that and the fact that there is no way in hell he will get $8mill this offseason.

Looks like the deal got done...for 2 players to be named later

Reports: Sox acquire Billy Wagner from Mets

According to multiple reports, the Red Sox and Mets worked out a trade that will send reliever Billy Wagner from New York to Boston. David Lennon of Newsday reported (via Twitter) that the Mets will receive two players to be named in return.

The Sox were awarded a waiver claim on Wagner, who has 385 career saves, on Friday. The two teams had until Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. to work out a deal or to have the Mets grant the waiver claim (and part with Wagner for nothing). But both of those possibilities required Wagner, who has a no-trade clause, to sign off on the deal.

Over the last couple of days, reports had surfaced that Wagner planned to employ his no-trade clause to block a deal, both because the Red Sox would not agree to grant his request that he not be offered salary arbitration and out of a feeling that pitching in a more regulated environment (outside of the rigors of a pennant race) would best position him for free agency. But, in the minutes leading up to the deadline for the trade to be completed, Wagner apparently had a change of heart.

Boston.com reports that the Sox agreed not to exercise Wagner's $8 million option for 2010, meaning they will exercise the $1 million buyout. But the report suggested that the Sox retained the right to offer Wagner salary arbitration, which would give them two compensatory draft picks should Wagner, a Type A free agent, be offered salary arbitration and sign with another team.

Stupid Braves lost to the Padres in 12 innings.

Can't lose to bottom feeders when you're trying to make up ground in the playoff hunt.

Especially seeing how the Phillies lost a game to the Pirates today too. It's getting to the point where, I don't care if the Braves make it this year, I just don't want to see the Phillies make it.

Anyone but the enemy eh?
Chances the Cards snatch him and he starts lighting it up immediately?
I think Bob Gibson could pitch in the NL today and have an ERA under 5.
Nick Green just pitched two scoreless innings.
Maybe they throw him in the pen, if they make the post season. He was Dice K-like though, with 3 BB. But gave up no runs, so theres a slim chance.

Speaking of the game, I hate that its blacked out (stupid Chicago area) and I have to listen to Hawk speak. Guy is annoying.

Green did a nice job for a shortstop but he's not like Dave McCarty who could've been a major league middle reliever if he had decided to earlier in his career.
Bengie Molina pullin' a Kirk Gibson.....saved the Giants season.....

Boooooo! Hanging a breaking ball with an 0-2 count. :bomb:

Better them than the Dodgers. I don't really care if it's the Giants or Rockies, just take the division from the Dodgers please, kthx.

Speaking of the Dodgers, not sure why they picked up Belliard... does he really make sense in that lineup? I don't think the Diamondbacks would of claimed him, but who knows?
Scott kazmir!!!!
Hope he can go longer than 5 for the Halos...but im sure he will get even better now reuniting with his pitching coach.

Rich Harden was claimed off waivers by the Twins. The Cubs have what 72 hours to propose a trade right? i never saw that coming. i thought Harden was doing well for them.

Looks like the Giants will sign Brad Penny. Hope the Dodgers get a chance to face him and light his fat ass up!

Penny will do fine in the NL again, he was pretty good in '06 and '07... not a bad pick up at all for 75k.

This.

Better than Joe Martinez/Sadowski we were throwin' out.....

If he goes .500-esque than I have no qualms about it.

Penny will be fine as long as he's facing guys that can't hit a fastball. He hasn't thrown his curveball for strikes all year.

5 innings, 5 runs was considered a good outing for him.

His NL splits this year weren't too bad.....

Yet again....the difference between AL batters and NL batters....

If he sucks than they ship his ass to the bullpen until Randy Johnson comes back (fingers crossed September)

Still have no fuckin' clue why Sabes hasn't claimed Jermaine Dye....oh wait I know why....he's an idiot.

Pretty surprised to see Garland traded to the Dodgers tonight, his name has been brought up in trades but I didn't expect him to go to the Dodgers.

Now I'm really curious to see who the PTBNL is...
garland and thome...and conteras got dealt away as well..
good that the White Sox got rid of those two. Contreras sucked and was grossly overpaid. Thome is getting older and overpaid as a DH.

I was surpirsed that i didnt see Jermaine Dye also claimed off waivers.

what a difference a month makes...about a month ago the whitesox went out and got peavy and rios and now they are dumping payroll.

Yeah about a month ago the Cubs were a 1/2 game up now... 10 games back

Haha at the R.C plane at Dodger Stadium, so dumb.

Garland pitching against Thurs us... interesting.

Good for Tony Abreu. Poor guy was gonna do nothing but age behind Blake and DeWitt. Very capable backup guy. Here's hoping he works out in Arizona (but not too well).

Tim Hudson had a pretty decent first game picking up a win over the Marlins giving up 6 hits and 2 runs in 5 2/3rds.

Braves are sitting 3 games back of the Rockies in the wild card. Have 2 left vs the Marlins, need to win at least 1 more of those, and preferably both to at least keep some breathing room over them in the wild card chase (they're 5 back now).

We need to win them just in general to catch up to the Rockies / Phillies. Yes, I mention the Phillies. Obviously we just want to make it, but why settle for the wildcard? Go for the gold I say.

Yep. Key is to win most games in general. But it's more important to win against other contenders, and to dominate the games we have left against terrible teams (Cincy, Nationals etc.). Losing 2 of 3 to the Padres recently hurt.

Also losing 2 out of 3 to the Phillies. fucking Brad Lidge though, I swear. Blow nine saves all year but perfect against the Braves? Why couldn't you blow two more this past weekend?

Penny pitched 8 scoreless innings against the Phils, yup he'll be alright, again a solid pickup for the Giants for the price.

And your welcome Giants/Rockies fans, won against the Dodgers tonight... 2-1 in a 4 game series. Scherzer was awesome.

While I know there are many people that don't like penny on these boards, I was really impressed with his q/a about being released from the redsox. He was a stand up guy in the interview I saw last night, considering all the shit I had heard I wasn't expecting that.

Maybe I just don't watch enough Baseball Todouche Nightly.....but I didn't know Penny was an asshole.

But.....the fat fuck hates the Dodgers so i'm sold.

Dang, Braves got smacked 8-3 by the Marlins today. So split the series and back to tied in 3rd with them in the Wildcard.

They really need to get some power on the roster for next year. Need a clean up hitter.

I think thats where Nate McClouth was supposed to be but he got hurt. If McClouth was healthy im sure enough the games would be different.

Pat Misch...........I really really really really really hope this isnt just a good couple starts. I hope he turns in to something the mets really need. He pitched really well in his last two starts so i hope thats some giving signs.

Dude it's the Mets. You know it is just a couple good starts. No way this guy is going to be good over a full season.

McLouth was hitting lead off for the Braves before getting hurt.

He has some power, but he's not really a clean up hitter. He had 26 homers last year, and the 15 he has this year are his second best total. The Brave's have a ton of guys who hit 15, 20, maybe 25 homers and hit for good average.

They really need that one slugger that's going to hit 40+ a year to put in the clean up spot.

Glad to see the Red Sox finally take a road series, at Tampa even. Hopefully the White Sox don't play spoiler. That and Beckett gets his shit together or takes a break and gets his arm rested.
