ChromeHounds - Gen. Discussion & Info

Yeah, that was a cool description, thanks a bunch for doing that. I might get this off of gameznflix just to tackle it online with some CAGs. I wouldn't mind getting destroyed by a player team just to see what it's like a couple times.

By the description, it reminds me of Mechassault 2's Conquest mode, only executed better. I've played the demo, so I know it's not very fast, but that just makes it more strategic, right? Also, couldn't you bypass the communications block by making a chain of private chats between your teammates?

So, is there going to be a game Tues?? if so, is there room for me? I've played through about half the single-player and will probably do some more tonight, so I'll be as prepared as I can be on less than a weeks notice ;).

In the single-player I'm just playing with the default vehicles. Do you need to get all into the customization aspect for online play? At what point do you do this - can it be done before the match is set up? I'm kind of at a loss as to which type to use so I could be whatver is needed at this point.

I am not sure about the others and I know I tried to organize for this Tuesday but I have plans I forgot about and will be going to a Cubs night game tomorrow and will not be home until later in the evening. So it depends on when I get home.

I am going to try to hop on and play tonight with RX after 10pm cst. You could go into a lobby and create a hound but you have to make sure to select the same nation as the clan or else you will not be able to join our group. I think if Ramo cleaned everything up RX and I can get you into the clan lobby if you are available this evening. In order to join up with us someone needs to be online and invite you in or you can apply and we can accept your application from what I remember.

If not I will try my best to get on later tomorrow night. After you are in the clan you can go into the lobby at anytime and modify your hound and even go on missions by yourself to get extra money for parts.

thanks

Having tested this with friends against the CPU, yes, you can certainly do that. However, I believe you can have up to six people in a battle per side so if you try going that route then, with a full party, two people are going to be out of the loop.

Personally, I don't recommend it since it sucks out a significant portion of the strategy inherent in the online play, but the proliferation of nothing but shotgun carts after the most recent patch make it a rush to the base. ;)

I thought the nation was unknown at this point (like it was changing or something). If not, which is it again? I can certainly join up under than and then see how it goes.

What is the best type of Hound to use for online play? Which types of weapons?

So what day works for everyone this week? Are we doing this tomorrow or some other day?

io, the best type of mech is a rifle hound, (i forgot the official term/name). You can purchase blueprints along with parts at the shop for pre-made hounds and you can modify them from there. I'd recommend doing that for beginners.

In the story mode the types are Soldier, Sniper, Defender, Scout, Heavy Gunner, and Tactics Commander. Is the one you are referring to based on the soldier-type? It seems the most generally useful in any case. I just wasn't sure what type of game the online stuff ends up being. If it is just a rush to the base then I could see a wheeled base (like the Scout) but with heavier weaponry being a good choice (if that is possible). But then maybe it is also useful to have an artillery guy in the group. I was just starting to play through the heavy gunner scenario the other day - they seem challenging but powerful. I like sniping too ;).

Personally, with the group I run with, we act like CAG's group and tend to fight the AI rather than other humans wherever possible. As such, since the AI tends to run various types rather than the wheeled base + shotgun combo, you would be be better off running whatever you please.

As a beginner I would second Linkin's suggestion in regards to buying a blueprint or two first since those are decent enough models to use either as they are to start or to build upon. It won't be the most effective or useful mech you could have, but it's a decent starting point. After that you can tailor it to your own needs. I used to run a Soldier with some great cannons and machine guns to draw fire/remove non-ATs from the field. The cannons were quite nice because they required a bit of sniper precision from a distance and did fantastic damage if I kept laying them into someone else's cockpit.

Also, if you have a few people on your team who have already bought all of the parts in the game, see if they will toss a few credits your way to start out with parts. Once you grab multiples of every part credits become mostly unnecessary outside of repair fees.

Oh, and io, be careful if you're running against AI by yourself or with other CAG members. There are some AI squads that have either a tartan pattern or a polka-dot pattern on their mechs. They tend to be stronger opponents and have some extreme defensive and offensive capabilities at their disposal. In those cases just make sure not to rush into them. They can tear through a beginner mech in a matter of two or three shots if you aren't careful.

You can also run missions solo online, but be careful. If you want to do that either run a mech that you are sure can take out whatever your opponent may be running (sometimes easier said than done) or a mech that will assuredly rip a base apart faster than your opponent. In those cases a wheeled base of some sort with four shotguns can be useful if you can hit their base immediately. You can tell which one is the actual base if it has a flag of the opposing country on the side. It's a quick way to earn some money and to learn the basic mechanics of playing in case the single player is a bit too boring.

As of right now the only person I have dropped is Toper since he mentioned he no longer had the game, but I will drop a few more if nobody mentions wanting to stay on the new guys still want in.

And for the new guys, make sure you keep an eye out for what nation we are fighting with at the time you plan on joining the squad. If you are on the wrong nation you won't be able to join the squad at that time or switch nations.

I wouldn't mind playing, if you guys play I'll join just send me an invite. I'll probably be on playing another game most of the day for the next few weeks anyway...

Thanks for the update...sorry for the drop, but I'm sure the new folks will have alot of fun with you guys. Don't forget the "Code Red" missions for the bonus weapons/armor. :)

There are 3 ways to win a match: kill all the enemy Hounds, destroy their base, or have more COMBAS towers when the match timer ends. So you could just create a bunch of base-rushers and win that way, but that gets boring. That's why I like diverse squads, you can change up your tactics according to your need.

As for me, I won't be able to join up until Wednesday at the earliest as Gamefly just sent out my copy today. I think that I'm still in Morskoj.

So if I wanted to go online and buy a Hound and mess around with parts and whatnot (and maybe try a solo mission) I should join Morskoj now? But if you are about to change nations for the Squad I don't want to sign up with anything just yet (and get stuck by myself in Morskoj ;)).

morskoj it is. im anxious to play with you guys, learn some stuff and have some fun.
i just picked up shadowrun so ill be playign that, just send me invite or messages and ill switch over if anybody wans to play.

I may just leave us in Morkoj for the next war also if we still need to get others added in, but the sooner the better. As a matter of fact if you have time today I could get on and get you in and transfer you some money so you can start buying parts.

pm me. i just logged off. i suck at building hounds, and i dont have much of a parts selection to help.

Sorry, guys, had to bail as I had the trifecta of my 2 sons and my wife on my case for playing this when they wanted to play something else. So now they are playing Viva Pinata and I'm banished to the computer .

Had they been harassing me a little less in that last match I might have been able to last a little longer. Would hiding (or avoiding getting killed anyway) at that point have done any good with just the 4 or 5 minutes left? We had the towers. Not sure how much they were after the base though. I'll try to jump in later but by the time things settle down here you guys will probably all be done.

thanks for the credits, the help, and the hook up with the squad.
I spent abotu an hour after everyone left tinkering with another hound, i think its much better.
ill be on tomorrow.

Found this today and it might be useful to some of the old vets and new players.

Chromehounds parts list

This is a complete parts list including the download parts with all the updates from the latest patch to the game. Anything marked in red has gone down in stats and anything in green has gone up. Very nice well put together list.

Also there used to be some free parts available to download off the marketplace. Incase some of the new players did not know. Not sure if they are still available or not but you might want to check it out.

Is there a time or is it just whenever (like last night)? If I can block that time off NOW I might be able to have the TV to myself this time . (Last night was too much of a surprise as I told them I'd only be on a few minutes signing up and then off - then we played 2 matches ;)).

The timer does come into play if neither squad is attacking the base. If the timer runs out, the squad with the most Towers activated wins.

Yeah I didn't expect to get hooked in like that last night either. I was expecting to get you and Paz signed up and maybe a round or two but I ended playing quite a few more. As for a time, I will probably jump on around 10:30 Central if anybody else is on and if so stay on for awhile. But I can't stay up too late today, I need to get up kind of early tommorrow.

no problem. I actually have more money if either of you new guys need more. I already bought all the parts so the only thing I need money for is to pay for my bill after I die.

Well, if I keep getting killed I may take you up on that ;).
But for now I'm OK - we'll see how it goes later.

So with the parts - do you just buy all of them up and then they are available for mixing and matching for any hound you make? I just bought a pre-made one - does that mean I have whatever parts it came with to use for other designs if I want?

Yeah, you can use parts in as many designs as you want, but you can only put as many of any part in any one hound as you actually own. So if you own, say, 4 Himmis sniper cannons, you can put up to 4 Himmis sniper cannons on each hound you have.

Just a note that I'm sitting here getting some work done and monitoring my Friend's list via the PC - so when someone besides radjago gets on I'll jump in ;).

D'oh! Just noticed Santurio said 10:30 CENTRAL - I was thinking Eastern so I thought that time had come and gone when it is really 45 minutes from now (7:45 Pacific here now). I'll keep checking...

ill be between 10-11 pacific.
money actually comes fairly quickly online. i played a few minute match and made 130k. but that intial boost from santurio was very helpful.

Awesome game guys...kinda got crazy since we weren't really expecting 8 people to show up for a 6 player war match. I totally forgot that Free-For-All battlemodes allow up to 12 players. Next time we play and we have a ton of people, we should all just go crazy and have fun on the FFA.
if im on by myself, is it beneficial for our nation/squad to do 1 player battles?
Yes, its great practice, good way to make money, and your wins count towards our Nations battle againtst the others...on the other hand your losses count againts us too, but don't worry about that, we don't take the game that seriously. Just go out there and have fun. Sorry we missed you last night.

I was going to join you guys after I finished a match of Gears of War... but there was so much glitching and douchebaggery that it drained my soul.

If you guys are playing tonight, and I'm home (gotta work 'til ??:??), I'll be thurrrr~

Yeah, we missed that pink Hound of yours last night. Looking forward to getting in some matches with you in the near future.

Since you guys are only going against the CPU, you should hussy up your hounds in the brightest colors possible so as to distinguish teammate from enemy more easily.

But be warned that I've noticed that the CPU will use your color scheme on their hounds after a while.

We got team colors that we all try to use. For instance were sporting the CAG Green/Orange/Dark Grey camoflauge right now. But I like your idea, neon colors would stand out really well.

thats pretty impressive if the ai switches to our color scheme.
i literally wanna play this game all the time now. sooo fun.
Man, I almost picked this up at the EB memorial day sale. I'll make a point to get it soon, the game seems REALLY fun. :D
You have no idea. I've spent over 100hrs online alone on it, and I barely have time to play, I'm sure Santurio (Ramo Z) and Maximo are nearing the 200hr mark.

Playing it again last night made me wonder why we stopped.
