Thank you for a very informative post. For the coming sale, I have a feeling one of two things will happen:
1.) the free after coupon titles will be flagged as "sale price" items so they can't be used with the coupon
2.) The store will give the sale prices a bump to keep people from walking out with free copies.

I hope it's the latter. I'd be delighted to try Terminator for $5 or even $10. I'll watch this thread with interest, but I'm not pinning my hopes on this. Besides, I've gotten so damn many games already this fall and winter... what with all of the crazy sales and great coupons, I have no less than 22 :360: games that haven't even come out of the shrinkwrap. And I'm still planning on getting Modern Warfare 2 next week! 2009 has been the best Cheap-Ass Gaming year yet, for me at least.
 
They can't bump up the advertised sale prices-- they're in the circular so by law they have to sell them at that price (unless there's some "limited quantity" wording). More likely they're frantically trying to fix the registers to not accept those coupons on sale price games.

I keep thinking the coupons will disappear off the site early and that'll be Best Buy's attempt to fix this, or they'll send out a memo saying not to honor it to free.

Which again leads to the question, why doesn't the left hand know what the right hand's doing at that chain???
 
All BB has to do and what will most likely happen is that they're going to have all their cashiers tell us that the coupon doesn't apply to sale price. I'm sure that is what they intended to happen on Sunday but it was never enforced at the store level. After Sunday's frenzy, this has to be high on their priority list but this is BB that we're talking about (penny guide heaven).

The thing is, actual barcodes/coupons are the last things that are inputting into the system (at least at the retailers I've worked at). Whoever handles the BB rewards/gamers zone (obviously) generates theirs first (or at least ahead of Marketing who verifies final price). This is why they're posted well ahead of any sale price/discounts on the merchandise.

Add that to that fact that someone who works in their Corporation or works for a local Newspaper, already received the ad a week or 2 before hand (during any holiday, it is almost mandatory for any Company to send their ad early to the newspapers or lose their spot, whether it's all together or from page 2A dropped to page 6A)...free or cheap games.

Long story short, those people are on their Xmas vacation (in Advertising and Marketing, it's a skeleton crew during this time. Everyone takes their remaining days they have left). Any and all coupons should work at least for a duration of time (like FTF, you just have to try to hit them up early). If they get hit hard, they'll call their POS systems guys in (off vacation) to come in for a couple of hours and rectify the problem.

Who's to say that this is going to get fixed just because there was a sudden "rush" of free games bought? Most consumers don't know about these coupons and thus don't work the system like CAG. I can't imagine the free game fiasco for FTF was enough to even turn the heads of the corporate offices. Besides, this is the same company that allowed X-Blades to sell for free. You really think they would let that happen and then do it again a few months later?

Besides, for every person that hoarded free copies of FTF, I'm sure there was a consumer that bought the game at the "sale price."

I don't know, it's pretty crazy..when I traded some at GS every employee was like: "Wow, you're done w/ this game already? was it any good? it looks good.." blah blah blah. One even acted like he was going to buy it later. But at $34.99 used?? GET OUT!!

I think we have a tendency to overestimate our impact on a store or chain. Despite the numerous posts on this board, we are a small sample of the entire population of gamers that shop at Best Buy.

Best Buy has bigger things to worry about than a few CAGs hoarding copies of FTF, XBlades, or other shovelware games. They've got HDTVs, computers, and overpriced Geek Squad service to sell.

yeah but you forgot to add slickdeals--ign post-dealighted-n our family n friends-just here alone i saw people boasting they got up to 15 copies or more of ftf.
on average it was about 5. so i dont know-add that to the money they lost late last month on the b2g1 free glitch (wich some also abused)--n if this coupon works n people abuse the crap out of it--while not enough for bb.to go bankrupt.. i say that yeah theyre getting pretty good dents.

im all for free games just not overdoing it to the point of calling uneeded attention--but again my loss some will say.

I think the impact of any decision should take into consideration of the people which the impact is being made whether it's postive or negative.The people being impacted to a certain degree but significantly enough are the CHILD'S PLAY KIDS moreover than the CAGs. You have to understand I'm not neccesarily arguing to the benefit of the CAGs but rather to the benefit of the CHILDREN(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qh2sWSVRrmo). I held out on buying the game for this coupon, and Best Buy pulls a fast one on me. I wish Circuit City were still around.

I can somewhat agree with that.though I hated Circuit City on Black Fridays. They were slower and less organized then my local Targets...and they were slowwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Nice, BB online showed Red Faction as out of stock so I took a chance that there were just less than 3 copies (which causes it to show as unavailable) and it paid off. Got the last one in the store yesterday.
