Fallout 3 - Gen. Discussion & Info - 'GOTY' Edition w/All 5 DLC Packs 10.13.09

I'm trying to finish this game before school starts in 2 weeks, beating all side quests and getting all achievements (multiple saves for the level related ones) but I'm kind of stuck. I'm halfway between levels 11 and 12, and I've been to Little Lamplight.

I opted to do the slaver quest because I want the achievement, and my karma has been all positive so I can take the hit. I got Arkansas, but now I'm trying to capture Flak. I mezzed him when no guards were around, but someone shouted out, "Assault!" and guards came a-runnin'. My guide says he is sometimes on the flight deck, but he's currently not at his shop, nor is he on the deck. How do I capture him without killing all the people in Rivet City?

Also, how can I level up? It seems that I am too weak to traverse the Wasteland to find other side quests, and I don't want to rescue the kids from Paradise Falls since I won't be able to finish the slave capturing quest.
Mez him, collar him, then run of rivet without killing anyone even though they are hostile towards you.
But if I leave and come back later, will they still be hostile or will they eventually forgive and forget?

They eventually forget. I'm not sure what the timetables are for the different types of crimes but for minor shit they forget after you fast travel away then comeback, then for other things it could be something like 24 in-game hours.

I know I'm a little late to the party but I just started this last Friday. I made my way to Megaton but I haven't done anything there yet. I'm enjoying the game so far but I am really having a hard time just staying alive. I get killed by giant rats and stray dogs all the time. I'm just not sure how the quest system works and I have no idea what all of the items do yet. It is complicated!

Also, I killed my friend's father to get the code to get out of the vault. Was there a way to do this without killing anyone? I killed a bunch of guards before leaving too. Does this affect my game in a negative way?

You might want to turn the difficulty down at first just until you get used to how things work.

As for your spoiler,
you can avoid killing the Overseer if you either threaten to hurt Amata, use your science skill to hack the computer, find the Overseer's password in a locker in his office, or pickpocket it from him. I think I did the third option. Killing him doesn't affect your main quest, but it does affect a future side quest. (I think you get less peaceful choices on how to go about that quest if you killed him)

Anyone know any other traders/supply stores in the Wasteland outside of Moira Brown in Megaton? I'm getting tired going back to her only to find she has no money to actually buy my stuff. I like going out to scavenge for stuff and selling them back.

Well in Megaton there's also the Doctor inside the clinic and the lady selling food in the diner outside that you can sell to.

Once you get to Rivet City during the main quest there are also many traders there.

There are also the caravan traders. They have a route through the Wasteland, but early in the game, you can just wait for them to show up in front of Megaton.

at 60000 caps, house full of items
i also collect way to many items through salvage

Rivet city is good, went there for the moria side quest
Underworld is also a nice place to sell items at or tenpenny tower if you blew up megaton.

I forgot about my quest to Rivet City. I've spent 20 hours in this game just roaming around and discovering most of the western part of the map. Wasn't aware you could sell to the diner lady and doctor, too. Thanks guys.

Meh caps don't really matter towards the end of the game. I've found more then enough ammo and guns just being a bad ass and killing anything that comes my way. Can't remember the last time I sold something and I still have over 4,000 caps.

This may sound absurd, but I am seriously considering putting the game on very easy when I am not doing the main quest. You gain levels way too fast. I would put it on hard, but I would only gain levels that much faster. Though I wish I hadn't gained 2 levels with the DLC.

I have just finished tranquilty lane, the survival guide quest, and couple other random quests. I am already at level 16

A few screens from the 2nd DLC 'The Pitt' circling around ..

WelcometothePitt.JPG

Autoaxepitt.JPG

The Auto-Ax looks super badass.

Going through again with an evil character. Somehow it makes you feel much more badass.

The view of Megaton detonating from Tenpenny Tower was gorgeous. A shame that you seeing that if you try to be good. As for the badass part, I killed Roy Phillips and his followers. For Roy, I didn't even bother talking to him, just snuck into the room where he was and put a shotgun blast to the back of his head. Needless to say, I won't be picking up any good companions this time around.

I played a bad character the first time, and it's an absolute blast. My final turning point was when
I didn't have the skills or the caps to break the kids out of Paradise Falls, so I did all of the slaver side-quests. It was all downhill from there, but it was a lot of fun
.

you could easily throw some text over that picture of the Auto AXe

SAW Evolution

and horror movie fans would line up to see it or to buy the game.

the Pitt DLC should turn this game into a Horror fun fest should scare the pants off you

I am buying that DLC rather than the Operation Anchorage one better.

Those are some cools screens. I might have to pick up the game myself just to play it, ha! (borrowed it the first time through, then my friend took it back)

I just bought the DLC and I have to say it was a bit short. I wish there was some more freedom in exploring Anchorage, it was a bit too linear. Im not sure if I would want to invest more pts into the upcoming DLC, if it were for 400, then maybe, but at 800, I'm gonna have to pass

Can someone PLEASE help me out with finding the Rangers Compound in the Reilly's Rangers Mission?

I have already saved the people from the hotel, I just have to meet back at the compound. I NEVER found it on the way to the hotel so I can't just warp back. I can not figure out how to get to this thing.

Do I need to go through the subways to get to it?

Yeah, you have to go through the Anacostia Metro Station to Seward Square. The station is located just north of Rivet City (very, very close). I don't think you have to go down onto the tracks, just follow the map east and you'll come to an exit to Seward Square, eventually.

Ya, from anacostia, just set it as a waypoint (or it may already be if you got out of the hotel) and use your local map and just hug the right wall.

Ok I just started playing this game last week and have a few questions...

I told the sheriff of Megaton (Sims or something) that Burke wanted to blow the city up, so he went up to him and got shot. Is this suppose to happen? Nobody seems to notice anything except his little son or something suddenly appeared. His body is just lying of the floor, along with Burke's ;)

Also, I went to the West's home and of course found them dead. I saw that the beds weren't red, so I decided to sleep in them. When I woke up, it said that I wasn't well rested. Is this because of the quality of the bed/room? I usually sleep at the inn, but 120 caps is too much for me to pay everyday to sleep. Is there another way to get rested and replenish my health? Or am I doing something wrong.

how long did you sleep? I believe you have to sleep like ~4 hours to be well rested or it may wear off really quickly. I'm not 100% sure, I usually rest 8 hours unless I just need to heal or I need to trade with Moria and I wake up at 8/9 AM

you were supposed to kill Burke before he killed Simms if you're planning on being a good character. He gives you a house in Megaton, if you help Burke you'll get a room at Tenpenny Tower. If you're going blow up megaton be sure to grab the bobble head in Simms room.

Sometimes the game says I'm not well rested even though my health bar was fully replenished. Then 5 seconds later it'll say 'you are now well rested.' I think if you've got a full health bar you're fine.

And I just found out I somehow missed the power energy bobble head :bomb: after speaking to
the president
. Is it true I can't go back and grab it?

That's not true about Lucas:
His son gives you the house if he is killed, it's fine either way

And about the bobblehead:

ya, that's the only one you can't go back and get

When can I get the house? Or better yet, how?

I slept like 10 hours.
No, there is no quality difference with beds. You can sleep anywhere.
Thanks. I'm still trying to get the hang of this game (never played a Fallout game before, and I've only played Oblivion once, and it was the tutorial level.

shit I guess I gotta load another save and collect all of them using that one.

Btw, is there a reason why my skills keep going down? For instance I had 100 in lock pick and science and now it's down to 98 for both there's also a negative next to it. I had a positive for speech now I'm maxed out.

You're either crippled or addicted to something. A trip to a doctor will patch you up.

lol I was addicted to wine. I just visited the doctor and my stats are back to 100 again. Thanks for the tip.

I have to say, they did a really good job hiding the bobbleheads. I've gone to the general area (like
deathclaw sanctuary
) but I've walked by them almost every time until I look at a youtube video on where they are. Hidden in plain sight as they say.

For the well-rested thing: I think if you are already well-rested and then sleep, it will say "you are no longer well rested" and then immediately after that message goes away, "you are now well rested." At least that's what happened to me a lot.

Regarding the well-rested effect, you have to rest in a bed that you own (ex. Megaton house) or a bed that you rented (ex. hotel in Moriarty's) in order to get the exp. boost. Sleeping in any other bed that you don't own or rented after you have the well-rested effect, no matter what amount of time you slept, will cancel it.

I feel kinda stupid asking this question, but a lot of sites post this and its previous games as RPGs, could someone please explain to me what about these games make them rpgs? I've tried looking up pics and trailers, but they don't give away much.

There ya go:

A role-playing game (RPG; often roleplaying game) is a game in which the participants assume the roles of fictional characters. Participants determine the actions of their characters based on their characterization, and the actions succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines. Within the rules, players have the freedom to improvise; their choices shape the direction and outcome of the game.

Thank you for the definition that was unnecessary, and unwanted, now can someone actually answer my question: What about Fallouts 1, 2, and 3 makes them RPGs. Nevermind, ex the question, I looked it up myself, and found out. Out of curiosity, the second fallout game I was looking at gameplay of it, and it looks to play like Neverwinter nights 1, is this correct, or am I crazy?

Holy crap I am a full fledged Assassin now. I have my. Submachine gun with Silencer and Laser sight and scope equiped for stealth.

And the Mysterious stranger Perk so some random Helper guy shows up with a high powered hand gun and helps you kill enemies.

You know what, murder pass is kind of hard at level 5.

I guess I need to buy some heavy weapons or something. Seriously, this is ridiculous.

Any advice?
