Fallout 3 - Gen. Discussion & Info - 'GOTY' Edition w/All 5 DLC Packs 10.13.09

I highly suggest you guys go out and but the think Fallout 3 Official strategy guide at Circuity City.

The Hardcover Collectors Edition $35 is going for $12.50

and the softcover $24.99 is selling for $10

there is so much more to this game than you'll ever know.

Just finished the game the first time through.

Took me a little over 12 hours, difficulty set to hard. Up to Level 8, good Karma.

What a game! I haven't even touched a percent of the map! This game is even more extraordinarily massive than Oblivion, and way more detailed. And hard! Seriously, some of the DC streets are just plain frightening when I was early in level, like around level 4 trying to get to Rivet City.

Most of those 12 hours were spent completely lost in the metro system, and wandering around DC getting torn apart and running for my life from super mutants.

One huge disappointment: I didn't laugh once in the game. I came close when
liberty prime
started his
kill all Red china bastard communists
speech, but really, even that wasn't very funny. Just tired and overdrawn.

I'd say the side quests are cooler than Oblivion, though, even if there's not an ounce of humor to be had anywhere in this game. Too bad, really, Bethesda needs to hire some writers with a sense of humor. The main storyline felt almost EXACTLY like Oblivion, only just moderately better.
I just bought the DLC and I have to say it was a bit short. I wish there was some more freedom in exploring Anchorage, it was a bit too linear. Im not sure if I would want to invest more pts into the upcoming DLC, if it were for 400, then maybe, but at 800, I'm gonna have to pass
Well, from what I read, Anchorage was supposed to be a "military simulator", so it's like playing a video-game in a videogame. It's supposed to be linear.

Had you read about it, or read reviews, you would have been forewarned about this. I've read that complaint in EVERY single review I've seen for the Anchorage DLC.

The Pitt, however, is supposed to be just another location. So you should expect plenty of exploration and side-quests.
You know what, murder pass is kind of hard at level 5.

I guess I need to buy some heavy weapons or something. Seriously, this is ridiculous.

Any advice?
you could avoid murder pass altogether. Talk to Mayor MacCready who will then refer you to Joseph. If your speech is high enough I think he will hack the terminal and provide you with a safer path. You can also do side quests to level up. I finished up about half of them before even doing the main quest. I think I was level 12 when I entered Little Lamplight.

Different strokes for different folks.

Something I have been thinking about so wanted to ask.

I am on the very last quest of the main quest. I have done almost all of the side quests (from what I can tell by looking at a walkthrough). I DO NOT have Operation Anchorage yet. This next questions also apply to the Pittsburgh thing coming out.

I have heard that if you beat it you can't do anymore of the side quests. If I am going to get Operation Anchorage and want to play with my current guy, should I not beat the game? Same goes for Pitt. Or should I just save before and then reopen that file when Im ready to download? Though then I would just have to beat the main quest again. Thanks.

There is no going back once you beat the final mission in the main quest. Save your game just before starting the last quest at the Citadel so you can use the same character for the two DLCs.

Then my next question would be, should I stop doing the last remaining side quests? Im not getting any more experience by doing them. I heard with the Pitt download the level cap will go up to 30. Would it be possible to download Pitt and then finish the side quests so my level can continue up doing them? Maybe there isn't enough info out for anyone to know, but was just curious.

i don't see why not. It's not a simulation like Operation anchorage where you can't leave until you're finished.

Not exactly what I was getting at. I swear somewhere in the thread someone mentioned a button pattern. Oh well.

Got another question, if I fire fawkes can I rehire him later???

Yes, as long as you maintain good karma. I think he goes to Underworld if you fire him. Not sure though..he probably specifies where he's headed.
Good, I am currently stuck in my bedroom at megaton cause his fat ass is glitched in between the chair and the terminal.
Throw a grenade at him maybe?
Throw a grenade at him maybe?
if you attack him enough he'll attack you back. He might come back after you kill him though. I was playing the other day and Charon came back when I went to visit the underworld. Time to go wreak havoc :applause:

Haha, I have tried throwing a grenade, shooting a missile, and firing the 8 mini nuke launcher(results in death :)) Guess I just have to let him go

That happened to me a couple times. I think if you fire him he will start walking and if you like you can immediately rehire him.

I need some input from you guys who have this game.

I'm late to the party but I'm looking to buy this game now that I can get it cheaper. I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger on buying it because I don't care for RPG's that much. Granted, I've only played the traditional Japanese ones (FF, played Blue Dragon once and hated it). I played Oblivion for a while before I just lost track (I didn't care for the story or setting of Oblivion either). Is there anyone out there like me who has this game, because I'd really like to read their opinion.

I do like Call of Duty 4/WaW and it's ranking system, which I know this game has levels to gain and what not but is that in any way similar?

The leveling up system is (I guess) a bit similar to Call of Duty in the fact that each time you level up you get to choose what kind of perk you want (stronger in the sunlight, better resistance to radiation, able to carry more, etc.), but it stays with you throughout the game and no way to change it. There's also different variety to choose from and can basically create a character totally different from others.

Besides that, Fallout is nothing like a traditional JRPG since in the end the guns will be the one doing the talking. Only thing I think you may not like is that the FPS gameplay is no where near the polish of CoD games, but it's still fun with the amount of depth and how you wish to play it.
Poor Fawkes. :(

Flyerfan: This is the only RPG I've actually enjoyed playing.
Same here, I don't normally like RPGs at all (Oblivion included) but I LOVE Fallout 3. Highly reccomend it.

I like the leveling system in Fallout 3 infinitely more than Oblivion.

I am creating a new character when the level cap is raised and like the fact that I can plan my level up strategy at the beginning of the game (perks, skill books, etc.) and am not required to repeat mindless acts to achieve my goals. I don't need to smack people with my barehands, summon a skeleton to attack me, leaplike a grasshopper to every destination, etc.

OA was pretty good, but The Pitt looks even better, considering we're gonna get to actually make some choices again this time around. Can't wait for later this month.

Not to mention a graphics tweek that makes it look better.

The Pitt looks good, but I might have Broken Steel be my first DLC just so that I can get past Level 20 and be able to roam the game after I've beaten it.

Read somewhere that the Pitt is roughly 4 hrs. That's a huge dispoointment! I really hope they put a lot more into Broken Steel even if it means they need to charge more.

Since I still have not finished Fallout 3 full I will wait.

But I will buy the DLC for $10 because you get a Chainsaw and a Automatic rifle with scope and silencer, so its like COD4 Fallout meets Resident Evil.

I still have the 1600 points from the watchmen ticket deal at Best Buy so I'll be getting this. I have tomorrow off so maybe I'll take a nap and wake up later tonight at 2 am and download it and play a little.

Did anyone hear about Fallout receiving an update to allow you to continue the game once you finish it? I remember reading this somewhere, but never researched to see if it was true.

I am still on my first play through, and was hoping this update was true so I can just finish the main-quest, and then go back and do all the side quests I am missing without having to start a whole new game.

There's a mod on the PC that allows you to do that, but no, there is nothing official like that for the 360. The third DLC, Broken Steel, is suppose to advance the main storyline and raise the level cap to 30, so perhaps you can return to sidequests at that point.

DON'T BUY THE fuckING PITT! Seriously, I bought and it is literally brimming with glitches. My fingers would fall off from typing them but most importantly THE GAME FREEZES NEAR THE BEGINNING FOR WHAT SEEMS TO BE A LARGE MAJORITY (IF NOT ALL) OF THE PEOPLE WHO BOUGHT IT. DO NOT BUY THE PITT
Seriously pissed right now because I was really looking forward to this. What's the point of Microsoft having such a heavy approval process if pieces of shit like this get put up anyways?
EDIT: Just to make it clear, I bought it, and it is a mess that freezes all the time. Personal experience HO!
