Gears of War 3 - Release Date Sept. 20

so long as you're not running a full system backup i'm down for helping with any achievements. no worries, the horde run more than made up for all the bag lag memories I experienced. it was bad though...if i saw a grinder start shooting I was already dead before I could evade or move out of the way.

i also need help beating the Act 5 - chapter 6, and Act 6 - chatper 6 in coop (or even better 4 player coop). Everytime I join a public game with 2 or more players on that Act 6 - chapter six the host always quits out before I get credit for the completition....even on hardcore and insane, friggin bastard. I really dont care what difficulty, insane obviously the best but I'll settle for casual at this point or normal.

groundhog day weekend, diggers and the ability to see enemies with tac-coms. Its like seeing their shadow.

Valentines day, Wingman, torque bows, and flower blood. I Mean how cool would that be. a couple, cupids arrow, and flower blood... unless they have hearts like halo reach had.

Im still waiting for a scorcher/incendiary weekend to help with that pyro medal.

But it seems that most events are TDM based, which kind of sucks.

This weekend is "Get Gnashty" or something like that. Basically its gnashers and snubs. But the snub has 1 bullet, and can pop heads like stay frosty. Personally it sounds like its going to be gashers 99% of the time. 1 bullet in a snub isnt going to do much, and you will be lucky to get one kill with it.

I'm online now, also sent a friend request to the CAGears3DLC gamertag.

Those of you wanting to finish 4-player co-op, are you wanting to also do it on Insane, or do you not care? I could go either way. We could breeze thru it on a low difficulty, or grind thru it on Insane, either way.

I do have unlimited ammo and super active reload unlocked.

And my gamertag is the same as my username here.
 
I found an easy way to do the 10x multiplier. Well its nothing new, act 2, chapter 7. But whenever i did this i always had a problem with getting hit with a bullet right at the end knocking me down to a full 9x. The thing you have to do is when you get to the last barge, just take cover by the turret you shoot last, until the barge is right next to your ship and then get on the turret and kill it. Ive done this about 3 times on insane and i get hit a few times but after i take the last barge down from close range i walk away without getting touched and a full 10x. I only have about 21 medals for 10x now, would like to get that done with lol.

Edit: I went down to hardcore because i died once and ended up lower with 9x somehow. But if you wait till the last barge is close to your barge than its easy to kill it and not get hit afterwards. Even if you get hit while you wait or while shooting the last barge.

it took more hits on insane so I did it on hardcore for the force multipler. I either get it or I don't, mainly due to the timing of the 2nd to last barge you shoot down. another much longer way to get 10x is playing act 4, chapter 6? The underwater level, put on a bunch of hard mutators on hardcore or insane and once you get to the torpedo area you can get 10x pretty easily...not the most efficient way but if you're looking to mix it up, knightsmith and I just snagged that earlier.

finally unlocked the command center, I've been missing out. if you're lucky you can get some nice random ribbons using it. I was fortunate enough to get the headshot vs. a roadie running opponent. haha...sniper strikes are great.

I'll send some requests out for gears 2 horde tomorrow if ppl who expressed interest in it are still interested.
 
I was doing it on Normal, and it worked just fine. I did it on Casual too, but it made it a tiny bit easier on Normal. What I did was I used Super Reload/Infinite Ammo as well to take down the Reaper on the left before taking down the last Barge. This is the one that will always hit you because he's a bitch. I can do it pretty consistently, like 6 out of every 7 attempts I'll get a 10x multiplier.

I also won my 3000th Match yesterday morning for another Onyx. 19 now.
 
So....

- Made it to gold Multiplier, only about 40 left to go. Its been pretty easy. Actually on the last barge i just wait until we crash into each other, then get out from cover and shoot it down. Seems to work pretty good, even on insane. The hardest part on insane is the 2nd to last barge, since it takes 5 hits to take a barge down. Only 4 on hardcore.

- Need 302 waves more to onyx the horde medal. Sometimes i just do the first 10 then quit, find a new match. Its quicker than trying to win higher waves, plus the other players can do most of the work for me LOL. Today two people were playing together, after each round he would give the other guy his cash. They ended up buying the silverback, then i upgraded it right after and it kicked him out and i took it. LOL i know dick move but it was funny. They both tried to shoot it, then left. Then i played another horde game and upgraded the silverback again and let them keep it, only they never even used the rockets. -_-

- I made it to level 69 today. Got 2 onyx medals today for arcade scoring, 20,000 xp a piece. Not bad! :D
 
I haven't moved up a lvl in about 3 days now. stuck on 86 (first run)
But It's ok I hope to get some time in this weekend and get some pistol head shot kills in!

from what i hear insane horde is great XP, if you're up for that i'm always down. I still need hundreds of thousands to invest in the SB as well as a sprinkling of decoy, sentry, and CC.

maybe get gnashty will yield some good XP if you stay for 10+ rounds of it.
 
heard that EPIC removed the stopping power of the Hammerburst and Retro-Lancer. we get the thrashball Drone till the end of the super bowl. so 10 days.
 
I wonder if the thrashball Drone will be DLC bonus down the road...I'm wondering if the stat on the Retro-Lancer being the most used wpn in Gears 3 is partially due to all the Drones in Beast Mode that gets used. Are they going to put Anya and Queen Myrrah in a cheerleading outfit as well?
 
that's creepy...

I do all my force multiplier stuff on 3/1 (the fort defense), takes about 3 minutes if you reload the last checkpoint right after the scorecard goes down. It's sometimes tough to get all the way up to 10 again but you just have to make sure that you kill almost everything and your squad doesn't take out the grinders.

I would love to see some "just for fun" skins-- fancy dresses for the girls, beach outfits for the guys, Farmer Dom, Grayson and Trishka from Bulletstorm, stuff like that. It seems like Epic only wants to have fun with the weapon skins and keep the characters in-universe for the most part though.

They already toned down her groans when you lean against a wall and move up and down, in the beta she sounded like she was having sex. LOL

No but seriously.... its cool they are unlocking thrashball drone, even if it is pretty stupid in the gears of war universe. Whats the back story on the guy? Did the COG capture drones and dress them up in thrashball outfits to practice against? lol

I onyx'd my Multiplier medal, so all campaign and beast medals done. Just need 3 horde medals. if anyone wants to play horde later, even on insane for good XP just hit me up.

I'm down for it sunday afternoon what time? EST?, don't know how many acts I can do 4 player in the afternoon...my game time tends to be later in the evening. I need the earlier chapter for 4 player coop and the last chapter in Act 4 and Act 5.
 
So they added the Thrasball Drone to the roster...would have made more sense on superbowl weekend, but I hope its a permanent entry.

MF fuck you Epic. Got reset today when I was playing beast and it locked up. I was able to recover some progress but everything since I prestiged is gone. I had maxed out all my horde fortification including level 5 silverback and last night got oynx big money. I also lost 700 matches and all that progress.

damn that sucks. last night my horde game froze in the middle of playing. usually it would freeze when i was loading into a match. But my stuff was safe. Think ill go make a new backup today.

Right now im getting the founder ribbons for horde. Im using 2 controllers, on Bulletmarsh. Buy the post with player 1, then go into the nearest kryll area and have 2nd player shoot the engine to kill us both via kryll, then restart from beginning. Repeat. Takes about 50-60 seconds per ribbon, but it beats backing out and loading up a horde game over and over.

Quicker on checkout. Friendly fire on. Tower at spawn, quick kill controller 2 and roadie run to grenade spawn by tv store. Grab the grenades, toss them on the ground and die. Average of 22-25 seconds per round.

I actually tried that but i didnt always spawn by a tower. not sure if it counts if you kill them first, and then buy the tower. But i also had to wait for nades to respawn sometimes. I just went back to Bulletmarsh. It was easier for me, and the 2nd time i turned friendly fire on, killed myself with either incendiaries or boom sometimes when i didnt want to wait for the kryll.

I made it to 30 onyx medals. woooo. I have 200 waves of horde to finish to onyx that, and about 900,000 cash to earn in horde to onyx that. Wouldnt mind playing with some people on insane so i can earn better money. If anyone is up for it send me a request when im on.
 
So i was playing horde tonight. I got the silverback up with rockets and was doing work. Then some jackass jumps in it right when i jumped out to repair it. So i was standing in front of the silverback blocking his shots, and i get downed. So he jumps out and picks me up and i jump back into the silverback. HA! But it didnt end there. A few waves later i jump out to repair thinking im in the clear because Sam is not near me to jump in. Then i jump out to make repairs and dude jumps in again. I wasnt aware there were two Sams playing. But i did the same routine of standing in front of him, eventually the silverback was going to blow, i run to avoid being killed, BOOM.... dude who stole my silverback is downed. So i go over to him and hump him for about a minute as he crawls for help. He just about died before someone else revived him. After that i just left.
 
i'm not sure if ppl without the DLC can jack your Command Center and use it, but there's always some dood who runs over and looks like they want to press the button just as the wave starts...so I just hold down RB when the close starts to run down and rebuild the CC as it's about to hit 0:01 and no one is near enough to rush in and jack it.

next time just have you grenade swinging when you're doing the dance of death, unless your hump dance is more visually annoying of course.

I have played and enjoyed all three Gears in the campaign (the first one several times) in solo and coop. I have never really played the MP though, and not much of any shooters online before.

I am considering giving Gears 3 a shot though to see if I can get into it. I don't know dick about the modes, what they do and what type of player to be. I assume I will learn all of that as I play, but in the meantime, can anyone recommend me a good place to start? Does the game match up players by skill or experience, so I won't be fed to experienced vets to be slaughtered?

Or am I so late in joining that I won't really encounter other noobs and likely just be better suited staying on the sidelines? I don't mind taking a whipping, but I want to have fun too. I value my time and have plenty of games to play, so if it's not a good fit at this point, I don't mind moving on.

Anyone with any thoughts, it would be appreciated.

I can tell a big difference in myself. I use to be way better when I stuck with Gears 2 and played it. Now sometimes I do fairly well and sometimes I just flat out suck against the higher ranks.

You should give it a try you might enjoy the mp. I doubt there is many new people. Usually when I play the ranks are insane of the people I'm going against. You still might have fun or end up being better than you think you are.

That will help somewhat against running into teams of vets which will buzzsaw a group of randoms more often than not. Plus, they can help you with strategies for maps and the like.
Try horde to get a feel for the maps.
Don't play "ranked". Stick to Public as generally the more serious players are in ranked. Unlike past games cheves aren't tied to ranked mode only so public is good.
 
this game is more noob friendly, so start out with the sawed off and lancer. retro is really powerful in close range if you can manage the kickback. Follow your teammates around so you dont get ambushed all alone. Camp if you need to, i sometimes hide behind a corner and wait for people to come out then shoot them. Probably be best to play team death match, thats where most people play.
 
Damn, thanks for those replies guys, they all were helpful. I am going to give it a shot, get my feet a little wet with some team DM and then see if I can jump into some games with you guys soon. Horde does sound like it would be pretty sick.
 
WTF, i was idle boosting and got into a game on overpass. Well it kept getting stale mated. I wasnt watching em, but i turn the game back on to see what was going on and it was 4 vs 1, me as the last one out. Time ended and it said stale mate. How the hell is it a stale mate when its 4 vs 1? Unless it does that with the new man up rules? Guess i better change it back to 2 minutes a round.
