Gears of War 3 - Release Date Sept. 20
The point he has is a fairly moot one centered around community behavior more than a certain type of weapon and that is where need people like him need to quit faking the funk and wake up. It isn't fun when the CoD community spends most of their time camping in randoms spots in MP either, but 90% of complainers in this game adhere to the same exaggerated flawed view of how shotgun rushing cannot be consistently countered in this game and it simply isn't true. It is not the only way to play this game and you don't have to put up with it. It is NOT a low risk/high reward tactic nor does following said guidelines guarantee a skill less profit in non-laggy games. Both the lag and questionable net code had a lot to do with the way people got away with Gnasher dominating in the past two games. You of all people know this Trakan because I've seen your k/d. You're a skilled player so how you cannot support a situation where people are legitimately being out played is beyond me.

Because of that I have no sympathy for stubborn complainers who refuse to use the tools provided to counter said play style. Just as you wouldn't if I trolled in the MW3 thread bitching about how camping is ruining the Call franchise as we know it. A franchise I'll admit (unlike so many whiners) I'm not terribly skilled at playing. The playing field has even out substantially for new players in this Gears so I refuse to apologize for berating single minded players who'd rather ruin a good game than learn how to play it.
That K/D was pretty much 90% rifle usage too. ;)

I can't really agree on the comparison here. Camping can be done in all games, really. This is a gun that Epic is allowing all players to have, and to spawn with on top of that. With dedicated servers, it's like everyone has a host shotgun. I've been "outplayed" at mid-range by a shotgun when using a lancer. That shouldn't even be possible. You've seen my K/D, you know I don't suck, so it wasn't my fault, either.

Epic could tone it down a bit but they choose not to because it will make a big portion of the community rage. They have said themselves they didn't want the game to turn into what it did with Gears 1 and the shotgun, yet they don't change it. I just don't get it.

I think the Retro Lancer is there to stop the shotgun rushing from happening. With any other weapon, someone can rush you with a shotgun and you won't have a chance at stopping them. With the Retro, you can stop them cold before they get within range of you. It's not a perfect solution, but it's a start.

You can't say that the weapon handling from Gears 1 to 3 or even 2 hasn't changed. It's changed drastically.

You said you've been outplayed by a Shotgun while using the Lancer and it shouldn't happen, but why? Because you think it shouldn't happen?

It's not about sucking or being bad; it's about people thinking the game needs to be played the way they want to play it, then when they lose because they are playing it wrong, they want to complain and say it should be the way they think.

I don't play COD anymore because I don't want to play it the way it needs to be played to win in that game. I'm not bad either, I had a 1.5 something KDR in Black Ops, it's not as good as yours but on the flip side, I had a 1.9 KDR in Gears 2 when I still played it seriously.

They added stoping power to the rifles for that reason and I may recall reading something saying they tweaked stopping power a little more to counter the brute rush.

Trakan: We're simply going to have to agree to disagree on the Gnasher then which is fine. I enjoy healthy debates with my betters. People need to remember though that constant exaggerations and bitching is exactly how we got some of the most horrid title updates imaginable for GoW 2. This includes TU6, the one solely responsible for tightening up the gun's bullet spread thus bestowing stronger actives and sniper abilities upon it in GoW 2. Be careful what you wish for in a game you aren't liable to stick with is all I'm saying people. The industry is all about the casual crowd these days so I'm fully expecting the worst by the end of the year.

It's not just because I think it shouldn't happen. It's a shotgun. It's a close quarters weapon. The rifles are ranged weapons which shouldn't be good up close. (The chainsaw/bayonet being an exception.) All of the beta complaints about the Sawed-off can be applied here for me. On top of that, it's an inconsistent weapon, at least for me. I can put 2-3 shots in someone's back who is running away from me, and they'll turn around and kill me in 1 shot. It makes me rage.

No offense, but I think a 1.5 in COD is terrible. A 2.0 in Gears is respectable. I hold myself to weird standards when it comes to shooters. When I think something is unbalanced, I'm sure to speak up and bitch about it.

It's what they've done (or not done) with the game that has made me not stick with it. I got Seriously in Gears 1. I played it for a long time. I can't speak for the title updates for Gears 2 going past the first month or two.

I say the gnasher accuracy is a tad too high. I would like to see an update where an active gnasher isn't more accurate, just stronger bullets. I think it's retarded how I (using a Lancer) would lose a mid-range battle to a gnasher in an open field. Just my two cents.
Whether it's terrible or isn't is debatable, I also don't stack my team and I always played by myself just like I did in Gears 2 but if I recall you always played with your team, not that there's anything wrong with that, but obviously your stats reflect it.

Point is, while you may feel the shotgun is unbalanced in relation to the rifles, I think most people who have been maybe bigger Gears fans than you, would disagree and feel it's working as intended.

I'm all for voicing opinions on imbalances but like Ink said I guess we'll have to agree to disagree again but who knows maybe when we all finally get our hands on the game we may be changing our opinions, either way I can't wait.

Yeah, I have to play with a team or the game isn't fun. I don't understand people who play multiplayer games by themselves, but if that's what you enjoy, go for it. I think Ink understand/agrees with me on the shotgun, but he's saying there's plenty of ways to work around it. I do that, and appreciate that stance, but what is basically a loophole IMO isn't a way to combat an imbalance.

I don't really get the "bigger fans" line. I was one of those people coming out of Gears 1. I still am a Gears fan, though considerably less now due to Epic's handling of the series. I'm looking forward to campaign more than anything.

As Hustle mentioned I agree the crux of this debate comes down to how much you enjoy the game mechanics. The same things people find fault in seriously helps differentiate the franchise from others and those mechanics are why I stuck with it through all the bullshit. Why I wanted to get better and educate myself on the when, where, how and why of what really happened rather than remaining content on how I perceived it. The ragdoll smokes, the saw vacuum, the host advantage, the bullshit sponging of shots, the guaranteed lag, everything. I just wish these last five days weren't dragging on so painfully. I. WANT. GEARS. Oh, and more in-game unlocks, of course.

I think we can all agree that playing with a competent team whenever humanly possible will increase your in-game stats tenfold provided you can actually swing with the big boys or want to improve. Otherwise it honestly won't change a thing.

I guess I didn't meant you weren't as big a fan or a big enough fan literally, just didn't really know how to word what you said regarding you not playing the multiplayer past a month or two until you actually said it. But I don't blame you, I've left Gears and come back more times than I'd like to remember.

Playing by myself in Gears was my own doing, the people I used to try and play with were....not to sound like a dick.....weren't very good so I kind of gave up on that and figured I'd have better luck getting pubs that were good enough on their own so if it was a team of people that can hold their own then we would win, occasionally if we did win and do well we'd all team up and play toegether for a bit.

Black Ops I just played with a couple high school buddies that I live by and they were all very casual.

I'd definitely like to get a relatively serious team going for Gears 3.
If you have a 2.0 KDR in GOW you either host a lot or are the best GOW player ever
I'd get host just as much as the next person with a solid cable connection, which in my opinion wasn't a whole lot, but I'll take the compliment.

I could see myself getting a 2.0 in Gears 3. Considering after about 20 matches in the beta it was 0.4, and I finished with 1.1 after 100, it's not unfeasible.

Releasing multiplayer maps before the matchmaking worked hurt Gears 2 quite a bit. A lot of people probably feel it'll happen with Gears 3 as well considering they're pushing the Season Pass.

Yeah... if the beta numbers were accurate I can't imagine them withstanding the demand throughout the month. Sure... Epic said when they were down it was for maintenance but looking back on current events it would be foolish to believe everything you hear.

LOL... speaking of shady business I just watched a weapon skin/season pass debate thread centered around YouTube video by a MLG player critiquing the news disappear on the official forums. Uh huh... enough said.

Are you talking Gears 2 or any Gears game? In the beta I had almost a 2.6 and my buddy Thi had something crazy like a 5. I honestly don't believe he's human though.

Oh you saw that too!! haha

Yeah. Funniest thing about it was the video wasn't even BAD. It was a fair but honest opinion and they still deleted it. U MAD, EPIC? I guess I would be too if information I hadn't planned on releasing to the public until after launch got leaked by early adopters.

Excuse me while I drool... I only wish it had a second level to it.

Anyone getting the Gears 360? I would love to get a slim and I've got plenty of credit. Are the controllers with the transforming dpad any better than the old ones? Is the slim quieter/quicker than a jasper?

I don't "need" it, but damn do I "want" it.

The slim is only quieter than a Jasper if you play games without installing them. If you install your games, the noise level is pretty much identical. I upgraded from a jasper to a 4 GB slim (and put my old HDD in it). However I'm still happy with the upgrade, just because it's smaller, has 802.11n built-in, more USB ports and a dedicated Kinect port that powers Kinect too.

I will try to refrain from getting too upset over the shotty until the game is out. Besides, from the videos I've seen it seems like the retro may be my new fav weapon and may be a suitable counter to the gnasher.

Like Trakan said, Epic has even said they never intended the game to revolve around the shotgun like it does. Unfortunately, they let the game become something they didn't intend. I guess because it got played so much. The chainsaw is a powerful enough close range weapon, the shotgun just takes it over the top.

I would absolutely love to see what gears multiplayer with no shotguns would be like for a week.

That's the crux of my beef though. Like I've said before. Gears stop-and-pop gameplay mid to long range is the most fun I've ever had in a multiplayer shooter. So when I'm forced to shotgun flank or counter the shotgun flank in match after match, it's not fun - that's not the game I want Gears to be. Maybe it is the game it's become, but that's not the game it was meant to be.

From what's been reported from the official forums...

Campaign Co-Op, Horde, Beast
- P2P

Competitive Multiplayer - Servers

Ranked supposedly takes priority over Social, but since in the beta so many people were on Social priority switched so it's safe to say depending on demand nothing is set in stone.

First CAG Group Filled.
Looking to Fill 2nd. 38 Spots Left.
it's a second group really needed? oh I have an idea. as the contest is nearing the deadline to change/join brotherhoods, maybe those with high gs in CAG2 should move over to CAG1 to increase our chances of winning!

I can't wait for this game. I might have to go out and buy a wireless N router to improve my connection (router in basement... xbox 2 floors above ); this -might grant me pseudo host abilities for once.

I checked some of the achievements out. Can anyone explain "arcade mode" without spoiling anything? Also I wonder how 4player co-op will work in terms of hosting and save progress; it's hard enough to schedule a time to get through campaign with one friend but three is going to be a pain

Pretty sure Arcade Mode is simply a vanilla competitive scoring mode for the campaign. You know points for kills, leaderboards, compare your score with your friends, etc. That sort of thing. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

Anyone know if these skins will be on sale for Microsoft points later on? Right now the Savage Kantus is going for $20 on eBay and it's very tempting to sell it

You can also turn skulls on like in Halo; stuff like infinite ammo or requiring active reloads every time.

What you said is Exactly what I was thinking. We have till the 10th to swap people out. To move people from one group to the other :) But the more people the better chances we have.

Seeing all this talk about paid weapon skins and season pass makes me think about what Mike Capps said after the Video Game Awards in 2006. This is when the first DLC for the original Gears of War was going to be released.

"We always take care of our customers, we always give them stuff for free, and we're going to keep doing that forever. That's how we do it. This is Epic"

So bestbuy has the gears 3 12 months cards available for preorder but it doesn't say that it has the free 2 months or the dlc included with it.

This is one game that I would like to get the epic edition of however one issue. I don't have much room for it if it is as large as the Halo Legendary sets. Have pictures been posted of the set yet? If it is not much larger than the Duke Nukem BOS edition I will have room for it.

That's not the right card that will give you the 14mo of live and the omen lancer. you can only get it at Gamestop and it has the 12+2 on the front. READ PEOPLE

So, being that it's easy to find deals on live for $40-$50 for 12 months, why is it a deal to pay $10-$20 more for two extra months? Just the art on the card?

Mechanic Baird looks pretty cool, kinda reminds me of Stryker from MK.

I like that the weapon skins are animated but I would't ever see myself using that rainbow skin.

I knew that list of remakes were spot on. Blood Drive looks absolutely amazing. From the increased size of the map down to the graffiti on the walls and flaming wreckage in the background. I'm sick of waiting for this f*cking game to come out. I wish you could speed up time.

The Rainbow skin however reeks of Dollar Store quality. Obvious cash grab is even more obvious. If it sets the standard for the rest of the selection I won't shed a single tear being deprived of them in my game. Regardless of the price tag they could have at least had the decency to cover the entire gun.

It's sooooooo very disappointing the path Epic has decided to take with these skins, the fact that everyone CAN and WILL buy them further devalues them. Weapon skins would have been an excellent way to differentiate players based on play styles and/or achievements in game.

I'm not buying the skins, I don't want to buy the season pass but I need to know what's guaranteed in it first!!!!

i hope the weapon skin pack isnt over 800 im already skeptical on buying them anyway. the season pass comes with a diamond skin right ?

Liquid Metal or silver or some shit like that.

The Season Pass comes with Liquid Metal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRqMGFikpTw

Hustle: I think Rod or Joe is supposed to announce the weapon skin price tonight along with more details on the Season Pass. I forget the PST time but it should translate to around 10 - 11pm EST.
