I'm complaining because of how it is being done. First of all, Epic used to be above all this. They pissed off Microsoft with Gears 1 by saying they wanted the maps to be free, but they compromised by getting Discovery channel to sponsor them. With Gears 2, they gave everyone 5 classic maps FOR FREE at launch. Now, with 3, they're nickel and diming the shit out of people. I could understand maps, but characters that were playable in the past two Gears titles now cost money? (Raam/Minh) Characters as DLC in general is a huge slap in the face IMO. Not only that, but obviously this stuff was intentionally left out of the game to sell later as DLC. Did they really have to do this shit when they already had this weapon skin bullshit scheme already in motion? It's really unnecessary. Epic has had a huge fall from grace and has now stooped to the lowest level possible. Say what you will about COD titles, but I don't remember content being on the disc. All of these maps were discovered when the Beta was hacked back in May. They've even showed Horde trailers with maps that were obviously done, but held back for DLC.
As for the content being 33% cheaper, that isn't exactly true. With MW2, you got 5 maps for $15, which equates to about the same price. (Along with Elite now coming out that will serve as the same "Season Pass" type of discount. Not to mention that Elite owners get content early.)
While I agree it's shady, you can't blame Epic entirely, EA and DICE did this wit Bad Company 2 and the VIP code to combat used copy sales, people were up in arms for about a month then got over it.
Now Epic is following in the footsteps and then taking it 1 step further with charging extra as opposed to offering a sort of VIP code.
So yeah it's shady and probably one of the biggest betrayals of fans in the industry, but there's only 2 things that can be done, pay or don't pay. There's already been more than enough people that paid to justify them to continue to do this.
