Guitar Hero II - General Disscusion - Indie Pack #2 - 3 Songs Up Now

went to go pick this up today on a whim and it was sold out everywhere :(

Might just nab it off Redoctane if they still offer free shipping and no tax.

Just 5* The Trooper on Hard, damn those triplets are annoying but fun once you get the hang of it.

Javeryh, the credits are about 20 minutes long, go eat or something.

Anyone have the best finger placement tips for this game? So far I have all 4 on RYBO but I suck at moving my index finger to hit green.

Get used to stretching your pinky out-- it feels odd right now, but it wont be so bad once you make it to expert.

I think my strum bar is defective. If I pick down fast, it doesn't register. If I pick up fast, it does... grr.
Oh and Less Talk More Rokk also gets my vote.
Put me down for Freezepop, as well. I'm also a fan of Honest Bob and the Factory to Dealer Incentives.

Wow, I tried getting into hard this afternoon and got rocked. I made it through the first set and into the second, but just barely. Those more experienced recommend mastering Medium before trying Hard or trying to fake it through hard and then bask in Medium's easyness to clean it up?

So this question goes out to all the veterans of GH2. I just picked this game up yesterday, and I've never played it before on the PS2. I'm currently playing on Medium and have tried to put it on Hard and I almost started crying. So how long should one practice on Medium before bumping it up to Hard?

Once you complete medium, you should be prepared for hard. The final tier on medium is a bit harder than the first tier of hard. The same pattern goes throughout the game.

my whammy bar worked fine tues and wed but today when i tried to use it. it wasn't registering. I hope mine isn't broken, i have the one thats on the bottom of the pic btw

yeah. you shouldn't really attempt hard until you've completed medium.

medium->hard is the toughest difficulty jump because you suddenly have more buttons to press than fingers.
Damn it all, RO is no longer offering free shipping on GHII, so I'm left with searching around once more.
I have a feeling they might be backed up on orders. It shows as in stock on their website. I placed an order on Tuesday so I could get the free gig bag. It still hasn't shipped yet, even though their site says in stock items will ship the next business day.

QFT. It's difficult to go back after you've grown accustom to the speed of hard and expert.

Bought it tonight, love it but my god, I suck! After I get over the awkward feeling of a guitar in my hand I imagine i'll be better, but god, I can't even do medium. Doesn't help I've never played it before outside of instore displays which lasted all of like 5 min.

My recommendation is to 5 star all the songs on EASY first, if you are new to the series. It will get you accustomed to the rhythm and what is necessary to handle the tougher difficulty levels.

Just finished the 3rd set on Medium after 5 starring all of Easy, and its quite the natural progression.

Fun stuff, I played for about an hour. I had no idea what I was doing at first, but now I'm having a lot of fun with it. I know several friends who got it this week also, so the two player stuff should be fun.

Is there any reason to play Easy outside of the achievement points? It's horrendously boring after having gone through Medium and now working my way through Hard going back to three notes and the slow crawl of notes.

Im glad you all like Less Talk More Rokk!

I always liked that one, I didnt know if it was just me.

I also like Freezepops song on GH1.

if there's one comment i leave on this thread, it's this:

dear god, please let there not be a defect on my guitar... lol

oh, and favorite song is psychobilly freakout... shear awesomeness. now i just need cowboy's from hell from gh1 to get on the marketplace, and i'm set

No, once you've gone on to a new difficulty, there's almost no reason to go back, beyond the guitar unlock / achievements.

I'm trying to do Medium for the achievements, and after being in Expert for nearly a year and a half (went expert about a month after GH1 released), it's frakking *boring*.

I need about four or five more songs to "5 star" medium mode then it's off to hard mode. The jump from easy to medium was bearable. Medium to hard is going to be a pain in the ass, but fun nonetheless. I'll worry about expert mode later. I was really hoping to see some downloadable songs in time for the weekend.

For people happy with their whammy bar, how responsive is it? Does it register if you just move it like an inch or so?

I'm 3 songs away from 5 starring Medium. I might sludge through Easy this weekend - I've been playing one Easy song and one Hard song here and there while working through Medium so I've at least started. Easy is going to be boring though but I need those 40 achievement points - damn you Microsoft!!

Finished the game on hard yesterday.

Probably gonna go through and 5 star everything on medium next, should be no problem.

I don't think I'll be able to 5 star everything on hard, certain songs just give me too much trouble.

Not sure if I'll even be able to finish it on expert, Psychobilly Freakout is a pain in the ass. I couldn't pass it on the PS2 version.

I need to 5 star Carry Me Home on Medium and I finally done and I can move on to hard. For some reason this song just keeps giving me problems. It is really pissing me off. Anyone have any suggestions for this track? I played it a bunch of times yesterday with no luck. All I get is 4 stars.

Going back to Easy after playing on Medium makes you realize how much you've improved.

I'm slowly getting better. During Sweet Child of Mine, I couldn't believe how fast my fingers were moving, but I did the entire opening flawlessly...I guess the key is to not think.

Try downing a few drinks before you play. After 4 beers you won't be thinking at all and you'll be in that sweet reflex zone.

Hah I'll have to try that...buzzed playing eh?

Finally got my first perfect, and with gold stars.

Possum Kingdom by the Toadies! I swear I hated this song whenever I heard it on the radio but now I'm a fan.

I just remembered that in my dreams last night I went to a Red Octane store and when I walked in it was a furniture store and they had just sold out of the extra guitars as well.......wow that was a weird dream......

Yeah, I've definitely gotten better - I was 3/4 through the Hard setting on PS2 though so going back to Easy is going to suck. It actually reminds me of playing the real guitar (which it should!) in that I've learned to recognize chords and notes and instinctively move my fingers to the correct location - kind of like getting used to reading tabs.

I had never played GH before and just finished Easy with all 5's. After You Really Got Me, which I had to replay after only getting 3 stars, I didn't have to replay any songs to get all 5's. Now I'm on Medium and I've hit 5's on 4 of the first 6 songs on my first crack. I think there's a nice difficulty curve there playing through from the beginning, but I can already see how boring the easy ones are in comparison to Medium. I'm forcing myself not to jump ahead though.

I too would really like to see Cowboys as DLC. I'd like some Monster Magnet and Corrosion of Conformity in there too. Oh, and System of a Down... There is so much potential for DLC with this game.

I've read a lot of "real guitar" comments on this thread. How many of you really play? What's your axe of choice, and musical preference? I've been playing about 13 years. I have an Alvarez Blues Master F-Hold acoustic and a Fender Stratocaster 60th Anniversary model (the Blizzard Pearl one). I started playing punk and metal, but do mostly blues now.

I have been impressed with the sensation of "really playing". Especially the satisfaction of nailing a long run. I don't really know how much it's helped me get better at the game, but I'm sure it hasn't hurt much.

I started to learn to play guitar in college and played very regularly for about 3 years until I got married, bought a house and had a kid - now I only pick it up on occasion which is a shame because I really enjoy it.

Exactly. When I first started playing this game I thought how would I ever incorporate the orange button, but now it's much easier to slide my hand up and down the neck.

I play bass myself. I think it's funny watching my friends play 5 or 6 songs. And after they're done, holding their wrist in agony. I guess really playing some type of guitar on a regular basis eliminates the wrist agony.

I've only had this game 2 days and I'm totally addicted. I have another slew of friends coming over tonight to play. Good times.

I have been playing since High School (8-9 years?) but I don't play that much and I suck. I have a mexican strat and some other various cheap guitars. I wish real guitar only have 5 big colored buttons and maybe I'd be a lot better.

Yeah, my 13 years is deceiving when I count that I barely touched it for the past 6 years or so (I've had three kids in that time). I really got back into it just the past six months or so. I do love it, and the kids really enjoy hearing it too. I think it's a great thing for them to watch/hear me practice.

i'm so tempted to go out and get this. everyone seems to be having fun. but i've always sucked at rhythm games.

I'm in the same boat. I've "been playing since '94" but really, I haven't had time to play in many years so I'm not that great.

Type: Gibson Explorer (black...same as the one in the game, actually)
Amp: Peavey 6505 212 Combo

The amp is by far my favorite amp for hard rock/metal. The high-end MesaBoogie stuff is probably a bit better in tone and overall quality, but there's almost nothing out there that gives you more crunch than a 6505/5150.

...it's also ridiculously overpowered for what I actually need. If I turn it up beyond 2 it would probably shatter the windows. Oh well. Better to have "too much" than "not enough."

I was wondering where you MI CAGs are at. I want to get in on some multiplayer over this weekend. I am near Pontiac if that helps.

Is it worth getting the original guitar hero for the ps2 if I have the 360 version? I was thinking of buying Guitar Hero used off the local online classifieds.
